    Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand - Welcome to Nakhon Si Thammarat, in Southern Thailand. Today we’re going to pick and eat one of my favorite fruits - Cempedak (In Thai it’s known as a jambada จำปาดะ). #fruit #cempedak #plantbased
    We were lucky to be in Southern Thailand during cempedak season. It’s a very seasonal fruit, and it doesn’t travel well - so even just 800 kilometers away in Bangkok it’s very rare to ever find cempedak. But during season in Southern Thailand, it’s everywhere. I’ve eat cempedak countless times, but this was my first time to see it on the tree, growing. And what a sight that is, so much fruit, it’s incredible. We picked a few, and ate both the fruit seeds, and the pulpy outer flesh which is extremely good.
    The next day we stopped at a common roadside stall and ate a huge cempedak. And finally to finish off this guide to cempedak, we were at a local market where we ate some deep fried cempedak. Although it’s not the healthiest option, it’s so good. I love especially that when the cempedak is cooked, you can eat the seeds.
    If you have a chance, don’t miss eating cempedak fruit - and unique and exotic Southeast Asian fruit, especially common in Southern Thailand, Malaysia, and parts of Indonesia.

      In Indonesia we have so many exotic fruits as well, in right season We can come visit Bogor, near Botanical garden you can find a lot of them..

    cempedak is one of the members of the jackfruit family and it is also commonly grown throughout Malaysia as well. the sweet and aromatic cempedak fritters are also one of the popular streetfood snacks in Malaysia. we can actually eat its seed straight from the fritters and its tastes starchy and soft. some people use that fruit to make cakes and i have tried a very delicious creamy cempedak cake before. in Borneo, there is also another fruit native to the jackfruit family called tarap which has a very distinct aroma from both jackfruit and cempedak containing bright white fleshes.

      Yes we call it Tibodak in our dialect Bidayuh. I love it especially cempedak fritters n d seeds can boil put a little bit of salt...

    We have jackfruit in Kerala (South India). South East Asia seems to have so many variants - Jackfruit, Cempedak, Durian etc.
    Oh and jackfruit seeds can also be fried.

      I also love deep fried campada and it is what my Province (Satun) famous for.
      It has a unique aroma, texture and is unbelievably sweet. It is not for diabetic .

    The young cempedak can be cook. Just peel the outer skin and cut it up. Cook in a spicy coconut milk sauce. Masak lemak we call it in Sarawak. The ripe fruit seed can be boil too then eat it. Just peel away the brown skin.

      Mark, in Indonesia, the unripe cempedak used for chicken curry ( padang culinary), also unripe pineapple for fish curry. We also fried ripe cempedak like tempura. Very ripe cempedak can also to be jam. And the seed also tasty, we boiled sometimes, the taste is like potato and good for your health.

    ❤️ from Malaysia, glad you covered about Chempedak fritter and the seed that you can eat it by boiling or fried it and you even describe the taste and the texture which is similar to taro,potato or chestnut, you even tell viewers that small fruit are more sweet and juicy compared to the bigger ones, hopes it will help any foreigners and travellers that want to buy the fruits in the future, in my backyard there's a few Chempedak tree and two or three of them are from the rare variant species that have red flesh and it more sweet and juicy compared to the normal ones,hope you can find and try it in the future

    I loved eating the cempedak as we named it in Malaysia. Plentiful in Malaysia. When the fruit is young we cooked it as our vegetable eating with rice. The seeds we boil with little salt till soft.

    i have not seen a cempedak with seeds and pulp this huge. your second cempedak is a good compromise of the creaminess of durian and the flavor of nangka.... Those fritters remind me of Malaysia which Siuthern area is so close too... great video n fruit Mark!!!

    Cempedak similar to jackfruit but it so much more fragrant and sweet. We used to fried it in the flour batter and eat it warm with tea. Yummy

    Cempedak is one of my favourite fruits. U can boil the seeds with a pinch of salt and eat it. VERY CREAMY SEED AND ALSO VERY SWEET FLESH. u can also fry it with flour. SO DELICIOUS.

    we (Indonesia) also have that fruit, also has the same name, "Cempedak". Also, we have the fermented durian paste (as shown in previous video) named "Tempoyak". those are amazing

    We have it here in the Philippines, what we called it badak, not commonly known here and only few provinces have this kind of fruit and for me it is more than sweet than jackfruit.

    The "hair" inside the cempedak that u eat mark in malaysia we can make it fermented combine with a few chili,1tsb salt,1tbs cooked rice and add some lukewarm water...after a few days u can eat it with ur lunch or dinner ..its awesome as tempoyak ...lol

    Here in Brunei we call it Tibadak we can eat the fruit directly when it ripe or we make tibadak fritter and the seed we will boil untuk soft then dip it to sugar or condensed milk. And the "hair/skin" were cook as vegetables or fermented.

    in Indonesia we called cempedak too.. and you also can made a snack from the skin ofc after peeling the outer skin.. often fry them, soak themm in the garlic and salt in one hour then fry.. the taste just like a meat of chicken and the seed can be boiled :)

    I have been watching this fruit for nearly 30 years in my local shops where I lived ,and strangely never tried once ,I always assumed it to be like a yam , because it was always kept next to yam and sweet potatoes .....Thanks Mark for showing it as a delicious fruit .What a discovery!!!!😂😂

    Mark, you can eat durian seeds too. 30 - 40 years ago when i was little, after a family durian feast, we would wash the durian seeds and steam them. They're like baby new potatoes. You can eat them with or without the skin on.
    And we always sprinkled a little salt in an empty durian shell, mix with water and drank out of it. Apparently to drive out the heatiness of the durian.

    Cempadak is a tropical fruits that can be found is most asian country. I can alsmost smell here, you have a great video Mark... I love to eat cempedak we got here in Singapore from Malaysia.
