2015-2021 Lexus NX200t NX300h EPB Release - Rear Brake Service Mode, No Scan Tool Or Battery Needed

- Master Technician Viktor G shows the DIY how-to procedure.
Please note that no matter how you retract the rear parking brake piston screw (using the procedure in the videos, using a 12 battery to supply power directly to the EPM motor, using the factory computer or mechanically winding it back using a Torx bit after unbolting the motor), there is a small chance of setting a fault code for the brake system. If the fault code is set, it would have to be cleared with a good quality scan tool.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate it!
Huge thanks to Jim Ollick for editing this video!
Thanks Viktor. Worked great on my 2018 NX300. Very precise instructions!
@@TheVfpilot my pleasure!
Worked flawlessly on my 2017 nx200t sport. Video made it simple to disengage the electronic parking brake. Thanks so much!!
Glad it helped!
thank you Viktor. I am happy that you reposted this video. I thought I saw it long ago in your channel.
You are welcome!
Thank you very much works well on the Lexus nx 300 f sport save me a lot of money from the dealer ship
@@Zeccr_ glad to hear the video helped!
Thank you. Keep them coming. Still waiting for the coolant flush video. Could you do a video showing locations of thermostats and other parts. Thanks
Thank you for the suggestion. I don’t have an NX to work on at the moment, so it might take some time until I can make that video.
Hi,please help me with this eror
Thank you sir, very clear and informative. 5 stars!
Thank you for the feedback!
Great Job Viktor 🤠
Thank you for the comment!
This is so helpful. Thank you!
You are welcome Michael!
You are the chief. Thanks
You are welcome!
It worked. Only in my 2017 NX it is literally 2 words *BRAKE* and *PARK* and not the *P* sign
Nice 👍
@@Viktor_G_AutomotiveBTW, I still needed to remove the electric brake motor because to take out top bolt you need a skinny wrench/socket. Full removal not needed but you must turn it few degrees. Craftsman 14mm wrench wouldn't go in.
Another interesting thing, caliper bolts had thread lock. But in Highlander there is no thread lock.
Great video…much better option if you don’t have tech stream than doing the 9V battery.
Absolutely!
Great video!
Thank you 😊
Hi Viktor, thanks for the great videos!
A few requests not related to breaks system but about nx - any tips or tricks how to improve windshield, side doors windows and side mirriors visibility during rain? even during a small rian, my side windows and mirrors are full of drops so I can hardly see anything. Replacing wiper inserts helped a lot with my windshield. My dealers offers aquapel treatment but I would like to know your opinion on the matter. May be an idea for the next video? :) Again, thanks a lot for sharing the knowledge!
Thanks! You could try Rain-X, dealerships offer various treatments, but I really don’t know if the effectiveness justifies the price.
I have to do this soon. Hopefully it works for me.
Best of luck!
Thank you Comrade Helped a ton :) Subscribed)
Thanks!
Hello Viktor!
The videos you make are very good! Thank You!
Maybe you can help me? My handbrake nx300h 2015 makes a loud, screeching sound when in use. What could be done with it?
I haven’t seen that problem before. Maybe the ebrake motor is damaged or worn out. Maybe the caliper itself is faulty. Determine which side it is coming from and start methodically inspecting to determine the cause.
Thanks Viktor!
My pleasure!
Hey. Great video. If the fault code for the brake system is triggered, what scan tool would we need? A bidirectional one or just any scan tool that can read and clear codes? for example will an ANCEL AD310 or bluedriver work to clear the code or do we need a expensive bidirectional scanner? thanks
Hi, there are so many scanners out there and they all have varying capabilities. I’d recommend to contact the scan tool manufacturer or read its owner’s manual for details on what it can do.
@@Viktor_G_Automotive thanks for the reply. I understand what youre saying. but im just asking if any scan tool that will clear the fault codes will work. You said a to use a “good scan tool”, but a $20 scan tool on amazon will clear codes. Im asking if any scan tool that clears codes will work if the brake fault is triggered? thanks again.
Hi vikror! If I am not connect the DOC what happene my car is 😅exus 2020 nx300 f sport love your channel
If you don’t short the 2 pins on the DLC3 while doing this, the procedure will not work. Thanks!
Thanks you for answering I will do the same soon, you have agaet days
T
hank you chief. does the procedure work on 2018 NX 300?
Thank you
Hi Joe, yes, it works on all 15-21 NX models. Cheers!
Is this what allows you to simply compress the caliper piston without having to “wind” it?
That is correct.
Hi Victor! How much should I tighten rear caliper slide pins torque specs on lexus 2020 nx300f sport (electric parking brake) Thanh you
Slider pin bolts torque spec is 25 ft-lbs.
Thank you very much you have a great day ❤
@@dinhnguyen8254 no problem 👍
Hi Viktor, i managed to get myself into maintenance mode and heard the breaks turning out. I can’t do the second part. Getting out of maintenance mode. I get a “electronic parking brake malfunction” on the dash.
Hi, you would need to scan it for fault codes with a scan tool and clear them or diagnose as required. Sometimes the procedure can set a fault code, even if you do everything correctly, but usually it would happen if some step was missed. I mention that in the description below the video.
How about you put on neutral?
Hi, what does north america model means? My 15 nx200t was sold in america but made in Japan, do you think is it gonna work for this method?
@@stevenlin6079 yes, will work for models that are built for the North American market and sold in Canada, USA and Mexico. Doesn’t matter if the vehicle was manufactured in Japan or Canada etc.
Hi this video is also for Europe?Or how can I calibrate the rear brakes on Lexus NX 300h AWD year 2017.I changed the pads and the handbrake works ok.But the pads are very little stuck to the disc.At 50 km distance the back discs get hot.Thank you
Hi, unfortunately I don’t have access to European market vehicle information. There is no adjustment for the parking brake, it is automatic. Possibly something was assembled incorrectly.
I tried on My NX300h 2014 europe. Doesn’t work. On the step when pulled up 3 times P switch the P light starts blinking slowly, when start to do 3 cycles down the P light goes off and nothing happens.
@@arturkaa25 unfortunately, I have no access to any repair information for vehicles sold outside of the North American market.
My 2015 nx200 does not have the P sign in the dash. Did not work for me.
North American vehicle?
Good morning sir, Am an automobile electrician, In Nigeria, I want you to be of a help to my work, when anytime am in need of a help to my work, how will this be possible sir
@@faloluadelani7200 hi, unfortunately I am unable to provide remote repair or diagnostic assistance over the internet. Best regards.
Does it work the same on a 2017 rx350???
Unfortunately, no. Here is my video showing one of the ways of retracting the rear parking brake on a 2017 RX:
th-cam.com/video/QsGy-xMiGFc/w-d-xo.html
I see a lot of the same instructions, but nobody mentioned shorting the connector pins. Is this really necessary step? I have insurance plugin tracker installed right now in that connector...
@@starikbelarus the repair manual says to short the pins. You could try without doing it and let me know if it works. Thanks.
@@Viktor_G_Automotive it didn't work by just pressing brakes and 3-Up, 3-Down, 1-DownHold. I have 2017 NX200T. It only turned brake from auto mode.
@@starikbelarus then you would need to follow the procedure in my video. Just unplug the insurance tracker.
@@Viktor_G_Automotive honestly, I feel safer to just unplug motor and drive it with 12V battery.
@@starikbelarus ok
I got done but don’t hear it winding back and I have the park written not the p sign
Is your vehicle in North America?
That’s actually not true all you have to do is use a small battery two wires and you can unwind them no damage.
@@Sinkorswim317 what exactly is “not true”? There are multiple ways to wind the EPB back: with a battery and 2 wires, manually with a ratchet, or by using the method in this video (which is straight from the factory repair manual). Using any of the above 3 methods carries a small risk of setting a fault code that would have to be cleared with a scanner.
Thanks for the video !
You are welcome!
Do this work for rx350 2018
This method will not work on 2016-2019 RX. Here is my video on how to back those EPB motors up th-cam.com/video/QsGy-xMiGFc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ua6kBObR7D2CED4x
