2020-2022 Lexus RX350 RX450h EPB Release - Rear Brake Service Mode, No Scan Tool Or Battery Needed

- Master Technician Viktor G shows the DIY how-to procedure.
Please note that no matter how you retract the rear parking brake piston screw (using the procedure in the videos, using a 12 battery to supply power directly to the EPM motor, using the factory computer or mechanically winding it back using a Torx bit after unbolting the motor), there is a small chance of setting a fault code for the brake system. If the fault code is set, it would have to be cleared with a good quality scan tool.

Thank you for this information.
@@geraldsun6812 you are welcome Gerald!
After you change the brake pad, Do you pump the brakes before or after retracting the piston for the emergency brake?
I give the brake pedal a few pumps and then apply and release the parking brake.
My 19 es350 is stuck in service mode and the rear caliper is not retracting. Not going back in with c clamp, service mode retracting or the 12 volt method.. what to do?
I have not run into that before. Maybe the motor on the back of the caliper is fried. Try unbolting the motor from the caliper.
Will this reset the light in a 2018 RX350? Brakes are done, but the lights are on. Though, the emergency brake was taken off then put back on (I didn’t do the job). Trying to reset the lights being the brakes are working fine.
@@YzFool78 no, this is the procedure that needs to be done before rear brake pad replacement, it will not clear fault codes, you would need a scan tool for that.
@ Ok. It’s showing electronic parking brake malfunction. They did get a AutoPhix 7360 with no luck.
Some one said this will work in 2016-2020 rx350 as well. Do you know if this will work by any chance ?
This method does not work on 2016-2019 RX models. You have to either power the motor up or do it some other way such as unbolting it and winding it back manually. Here is my video on it: th-cam.com/video/QsGy-xMiGFc/w-d-xo.html
@@Viktor_G_Automotive I saw your video but just have that question. Thx for responding
You think it's applicable to yaris 21' icon? Do you know why this is necessary to do?
Try it and see if it works .You have to do this to be able to compress the rear brake caliper pistons when installing new rear brake pads.
Does this method loosen the emergency Brake cable?
There is no cable on these models. The parking/emergency brake is actuated by the motors bolted to the back of the rear brake calipers. This method winds the motors back to allow brake caliper pistons to be compressed when doing a rear brake job.
Will it work on 2021 GX 460?
The 2021 GX does not use an electric parking brake, just a regular drum style parking brake and cable system.
Any way to change temperature from C to F. 2018 lexus rx 350 f sport?
I don’t recall ever having to do that, so not sure if it’s possible
@@Viktor_G_Automotivejust change units from imperial to metric.
Hi Viktor! How would I activate this service mode on a 2018 LC500?
You don’t need to, the parking brake system is different.
@@Viktor_G_Automotiveinteresting! So no need to do anything special when changing out the rear brake pads?
@@sethk11 just have the parking brake off
