Yeah the new tree training for felling or a proper notch is shaving the bark of the front then a back cut level with the notch. Which can cause barber chair extremely dangerous.Good video stay safe.

That is probably the hardest cut in falling a tree in regards to dulling the chain. I found after I started making shorter top cuts, my chains stay sharper longer. Great video. Thanks!

Hello sir. Love the videos. We cut in similar areas so I really appreciate the knowledge. Question. I do that same high cut and shallow face when I have a back leaner so I can really pound wedges to get it to go against the lean. I always felt like the high face cut helped the tree stay on the stump longer? I hear you saying as long as the depth is the same the height doesn’t matter as much? Thanks again!

I’m hoping the point comes through- think it through and do what’s needed for the tree your felling. That hemlock hinge fiber will break very early as the tree starts to fall and it was intended to fall up hill so the wide angle was not necessary. Agree on the premise of wedging a back leaner. Keep the notch as “shallow “ as possible in order to get the most mechanical advantage for lifting with the wedges.
