So glad I found your channel, John. I'm over in Halifax and hosted GOL with you over multiple days a few years ago but it's been a few years since I needed to bring a tree down. Grateful you posted these - needed your tutorial. Perfect practice makes perfect became a fixed part of my vocabulary because of you.

I don't understand why your channel doesn't have more subs, this stuff is very useful to anyone who deals with chainsaws.

I wonder how you might practice and show me a Humbolt cut. I know how it’s done because I’ve seen many people do it, but they’ve not explained how they got proficient at it. PLEASE! I’m not anywhere near there, because I’ve not seen any sights that I can use on the bottom of the saw.

Hey Todd! So you don’t us sights when making the undercut in a humbolt. The first cut made is horizontal to the stem. That is your gunning cut. This is where you use the sights on the saw to determine where the tree will go. After you have established your gunning cut. Bring your saw out of the cut. Set your dawgs in the corner of your gunning cut and while holding the saw level point your bar tip down towards the ground at a 45 degree angle and start your undercut. This will likely take some time to get right. Just remember your better of to come up short on your undercut as you can always clean the Dutchman up. If you come in long meaning below your gunnning cut on the far side DO NOT chase your cut. As this will alter your direction of fall. It’s best to practice this on short stems like is shown here. Also like stated work on making your practice perfect. Go slow at first and you will speed up as you develop the muscle memory. Also start of about hip high in the beginning then as you get comfortable you can work your way down the stem. I hope this all makes sense.
