The War With Ukraine Is Coming Home to Russians

  • As Russia's army falters on the battlefield in Ukraine, President Putin has announced a 'partial' mobilisation of citizens with military experience. But in reality- students, pensioners and people with no army training have been called up. Hundreds of thousands of Russians have fled the country. VICE News asks if Russia's 'special operation' has finally become a real war.

Just an fyi for those who don’t speak Russian. The guy whose justifying Russian actions in Ukraine was translated inaccurately. He uses the word “Hohol” (phonetically spelled with English letters) and Vice translates this to mean “Ukrainians” but it’s actually a racist derogatory word used to reference Ukrainians. So in context he’s literally saying “our goal isn’t to annihilate those “racist term to describe Ukrainians” . I don’t blame Vice for not knowing this but since I am a Russian and Ukrainian speaking Ukrainian American, I wanted to clarify this for all non Russian speaking people watching this.

I was a military officer and I oversaw the training a number of our own troops, as well as foreign troops. I am eminently familiar with what it takes to turn a civilian into a properly functioning soldier that not only will survive those first few days of battle, but also become actual contributors to a fighting force. I can tell you that it takes no less than 5-6 weeks of basic training to train someone to the point they won't immediately die on the line. And 8-12 weeks of basic to where they can function as a proper infantry soldier. And on top of that, weeks of training with their unit. All these boys are not receiving anywhere near enough training or equipment. Many of them are going to die without being given the training necessary. This is a f**king tragedy and a farce.

Next time you say that “all Russians are responsible for this war” just remember that you’ve probably never experienced a dictatorship and don’t know what it’s like to have to chose between your family’s safety and your life. These boys are going to war bc they have to, not bc they want to. They cannot say these things out loud because 1. they will be incarcerated or 2. their family will suffer the consequences of their actions, in certain, poorer regions, that’s torture in a basement. Praying for peace and clear skies in Ukraine. Praying for better days in Russia.

Every country that Russia gets involved in becomes a meat grinder. Even when they win (ww2) they can't help suffering heavy casualties. Russia is a failed state and has been so since the decline of the Russian empire.

Well it is after they threw it away in a campaign designed to meet the Kremlin's political goals without the necessary preparations and lacking any respect for their opponents.
So in a way yes very inept, but also we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that things might have gone very differently or that in the future or that even right now the Russian army shouldn't be underestimated.
The worst is that many thousands ordinary people will now lose their lives just to save Putin and the ruling regime's ego.

I've wondered if some stealth bombers and bunker busters could take out their ballistic missile silos in a surprise attack if they continue to escalate. They have slbms also which would be harder to find but there would be fewer targets.

Dude who shot the recruiter looks like he saved at least a dozen people by giving them the chance to flee now.
