These guys are legit amazing human beings and quite frankly best content makers of physiotherapy material. So much knowledge is pushed into their videos, and literally if people followed at least 25% of what Bob and Brad suggests - they would extremely likely walk pain free. Like in this podcast, they called this pharmacists guest to essentially highlight that physiotherapy is the best way to live pain free and not to push medication use without a good reason. I really appreciate this type of honest work.

What's fun is when you're on these meds for so long the side effects no longer affect you, but the meds still do what they are supposed to. With my MS, chronic sciatica, and herniated disc (L5/S1), I've been on Baclofen for close to 18 years and Zanaflex for at least 10 years. I'm also on a plethora of other meds that are supposed to make you sleepy, but because I've been on them for so long, I no longer get that particular side effect. What I take on a daily basis would probably knock a "normal" person out for days, if not half kill them. Ahhh, the "beauty" of being chronically ill...

Wish I had this information when I herniated 3 lumbar discs and began having muscle spasms in 1992 and could have actually healed. Been through years of PT, acupuncture, TENS, ice, heat, prescriptions, microsurgery, nothing able to get pain below a 5 in 20 years, (and most days is 8) still have muscle spasms and have just accepted that I will always be in pain and will never be whole or functional again.

I cant even believe that they even try us on those TENS machines. I went crazy at them trying to tell me that a tens machine isnt a glorified muscle contractor. People use them as the lazy way to get mostly abs so the electric makes the muscles contact rather than you do it in the gym. Thats all a tens machine is. Ibtold them they may as well spat in my face giving me that shite for even a try when the thing islts self isnt even actully proved to do anything for pain. And when i say pain i mean real chronic pain. Wste if time and money and horrible for the patient making them wait to try real thingd that work.
Im bow waitng on baclofen. I have damaged discs in my backz dehydrated ones in my neck. Steriod injections work great because steroids work. But medcial companys wouldnt make money of we got better 1st go.

I took 5 mgs once for a buzz, because I'm a user of alcohol and opioids (AKA I like downers), and it was the worst idea I ever made. you feel like shit for the entire next day after and even that's still not nearly as bad as how you feel while on it. it's like a shitty benadryl buzz mixed In with a low dose of Dextromethorphan (over the counter drugs that I abused as a teen), I will stick with my alcohol and opioids...they ruin me but at least I feel good while they ruin me. This cyclobenzaprine stuff seems like it not only has the potential to totally ruin a person but you won't even enjoy being on it. so much better ideas for muscle relaxation.

@@tyanag9938 the only thing I do during the daytime for the pain is rest periods and stretches that I found very helpful here on TH-cam. But at night when it's sleepy time I won't sleep because I can't relax My shoulders and just hurts to turn or get comfortable. So that's when I take my muscle relaxer pretty much it's just that I can relax enough to sleep. Tylenol is the only pain medicine that I take because of my stomach problems and I can't really take much of that at all. I wished I had a better answer for you but really look into the stretches on here because they do work surprisingly!

Disagree. That's how muscle relaxants are in my experience-- effective while you're on them, but the day after you stop taking them, you're down again. Physical therapy takes commitment, but will eventually get you healed. They have it right in this video-- drugs to get you functioning when you're in the worst of it, physical therapy to get you healed up.

I was prescribed muscle relaxants for fibromyalgia caused by the trauma of a c-section. I hated them. I was so sleepy. Being half asleep all day doesn't work with 4 kids!
I went to a chiropractor and he helped realign my neck and back. Then an occupational therapist who helped me with myofacial release. I started an exercise program with stretching geared toward fibromyalgia.
21 years later I still have fibro. I still have pain. But I am able to go through life without muscle relaxants, or prescription pain meds (so far).
My advice is always to try all the other modalities and therapies before the pills. No shame in using them, but they just come with their own problems.

I have osteoarthritis in both knees but the right side is in constant pain whether sitting, standing, walking and even while I'm asleep. I can go to the doctor, run errands, or go to the store and when I get home, my muscles will be so sore and I will catch bad cramps while sleeping and during waking hours the next day. I drink tons of water and take magnesium so I know I'm not dehydrated. Oh sorry maybe I missed this if you are on muscle relaxers because of pain for example from fibromyalgia, and you have a physical job does the med make you more prone to injury. I know you said it spasms as a over protection from an injury, but for instance I'm not sure I hurt myself. Maybe I just over did it.. with fibromyalgia sometimes it doesn't take much.

That sounds like a mentally tough situation, I am sorry you feel that way. It is hard to get the motivation when you do not see results. However, when it comes to therapy a lot of the effects are based on presistance and commitment to the exercises. (It will take time. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for soft tissue injuries to heal and 6 to 8 weeks for bone to start regrowing. So in the same manner it is a test of patience, it will take time.) It would be hard to say with regards to the specific symptoms that you are having... However, therapy would definitely help with signs such as loss of muscle strength, loss of range of motion, pain, some sensory things and general well being. It also reduces the risk of cardio vascular disease, diabetes etc. Do not give up on yourself. Hang in there!

Hi Lydia! To a degree, I understand how you feel. I’m on Medicaid and surgery five years ago to remove my entire meniscus. The surgery lessened me, it also went one hour longer than they told me it would. I’ve been begging for a knee replacement for four years, but they tell me I have to wait until I’m 65, I’m 50. Now I have a huge crazy painful hip labrum tear bc they’ve waited too long to fix my knee. I get no pain relievers either. Scared is no way to go though life, so don’t be. It’s the only thing within your power that you can control, not your pain, but your fear. Control your fear. I too feel screwed. It’s like we paid the bill, but didn’t get anything for it. Medicaid is a hoax upon the American people. Canada, all of the U.K. and Europe give their citizens socialized healthcare from the time they are born. Many problems with our system. I’m sorry for your misfortune and hope we both get by the relief we deserve. Stay strong..things change.

Have you ever had a patient says sheesh doc my perception is that your perception about me is that I’m a pill seeker. And I’m not. I’m in real pain due to beekeeper work. So let’s say I’m as distanced as you are from my pain and I bring in a machete to the office would the doc think it’s reasonable now to give some flex ? There’s a difference between acute muscle pain and chronic pain; and between specific pain from an injured muscle like a pulled muscle or overall condition like Fibromyalgia. The relaxers are used for different purposes and therapy as well as chiropractic may or may not help for the medical issue. For my Fibro/IC I need the relaxer so I don’t have to use pain relievers very often. I also use massage therapy, chiropractic and therapy to help my body and mind. So yes, I’m a “lifer” with great doctors.

Ideally, physical therapy SHOULD be the go to method for relief from muscle spasms and injury but our fast paced society does not allow a person to take the time need to allow the body to repair. Therefore the quick fix pharmaceutical is employed to facilitate a person to keep moving and productions. It’s a conundrum. Unfortunately perpetuation of quick fix drugs (that aren’t a real fix) is profitable for several industries. End result? An entire population of walking wounded.

I get tingling up my neck which depending on how I move my head, makes me a little light headed. I do have tight muscles along my upper shoulders. Also a knot (like a ball), in my left shoulder that when I move my head at a upward angle from left , there's a shooting sharp stabbing pain that travels from the knot, up my neck , to my forehead giving me a 20 sec head rush or migraine. This is all due to my job which is repetitive motion and I'm in one spot all day. It's cause I don't move that much so my muscle tighten up. Couple of times I moved too soon and I hear a crunch noise. Kinda like I released the tightness in my neck. I do feel a little bit better afterwards that's how I know that's the problem.
