It is so refreshing to hear a well-known, nondual teacher like Rupert calling out the neo-advaita tactic of answering every question with the smug, "who's asking?" It's rote, mechanical, boring, and lacks compassion. Like Rupert said, if those teachers really believed what they're teaching (there is nobody, there is nothing), then they wouldn't bother teaching.... what would be the point? Thank you for saying this out loud, Rupert!

I once heard Matt Kahn,( whom I felt was addressing mostly people with personal problems) saying something similar - that there's nothing sillier than hearing someone go on and on about Advaita, Zen etc and then saying " no-one is saying this " !!

Compassion, yes, or lack thereof, that's what it is about, I always think, when teachers want to be 'the teacher' with their answers, rather than a wise, sympathetic listener.

Who is posting this message on TH-cam, and who is reading it? Who made the phone that "Im" using to write this message? And if there is nobody here to read this message, and there was nobody to write the message, then can we safely assume there was never any message that was ever written.

@@stephenrutherford I think that there's a teacher for all types of people, and that tactic may work for some. There's a reason we have so many ways of delivering the same message, we all need different things at different times as we are so varied in our journeys. Rupert allows himself to be more of a custom deliverer over a cookie cutter style. Both are valid, but attract different types of people.

Namaste: As French composer Eric Satie illustrates so clearly in his compositions, it is the silence -- the 'doors' -- between the notes, wherein possibility most resides.

Silence is gods hymn. Silence is the way. Silence is now. Silence is here. Silence is behind the eyes. Silence is pure intelligence before coming into form. Silence is where all begins and all ends. Surely, silence must hold the secrets of this life. What else could carry this entire existence, but silence itself?

There indeed does come a time, at least for some, where the talks, the questions and answers and the books become redundant and distracting. Where we once tried to 'figure out' who we were through words, there comes a time when all we want to do is rest in Silence. As Rupert points out, Silence is the most radical teaching there is, and there have been a few teachers over the millennia who have primarily taught from It's power and depth, but not many.

Not necessarily when they become distracting, but also dropping all practice for a while and literally doing nothing. Often we still have a belief somewhere that if we don't do something, do some inquiry or some meditation we regress and lose everything we 'worked' for. Of course there is nothing to gain. For this process you have to lose everything, you have to die in a way. Silence and doing actually nothing at all can bring up this fear of regression and it can be intense aswell, it can bring up a lot.

Being in human bodies, people cannot help but want to engage with others and talk. If we truly live in a non dual way, we would be content being silent and alone. How many people in the world are like that? Free of these bodies as pure consciousness we can be, but most after death will still be attached to form and want to experience it again.

Totally agree, the only teacher is silence and the only place I find it is within and if I decided to start teaching people I have to acknowledge the use of myself to go out there and do so and not give people glebe answers like “ there’s no one here and no one’s talking “ as I realize that already and I feel at some level most of us do
So people like Rupert, Echkart and Byron Katie are my go to for tools to help as I’ve always realised the answer is within the apparent me and especially the silence

Oh I just realised that I was doing this years ago as a student of technology. I faced the final, main exam after a whole year of intense study and I just had to pass. So on the day, I just sat down in the exam room and went silent. With each question on the exam paper I responded (in writing) the First thing that appeared within the mind. It wasn't a loud knowing I'd normally get from the mind, but the first subtle awareness of the answer. Sometimes I wasn't sure that a really complex question was answered correctly, but it turned out to be right. I got full marks and passed the exam! So maybe it's the same with important choices in life you have to make?

Following that recommendation he describes what he calls “the tantric approach,” which I would describe as a more nurturing response to arisen phenomena (I.e. feeling). Is the separate self an independent entity or an activity and false presumption ? Are not all beings, acting as if they independent and separate from one another, and Conscious Being itself? The Conscious Self and Source Condition of each living being lives in and as Conscious Spirit Light that is inherently interconnected and all-inclusive and thus non dual. This is radical understanding. In this radical understanding, the Awakening living being may fully Realize the non dual Single Source Condition (or State of Being) that is non separation. Yet, this One can still speak, move and serve all arising beings and things, seeing all likewise as non separate, or inherently One. Manifesting "Silence" freely, happily, as non dual Divine Being and Love.
Conscious Love Bliss Being. Love Ananda Adi Da speaks and transmits this non separation.

Don't you think if transformation was to be brought about by silence alone many many humans would have attained Muksha?
I think rupert non dual is direct path through Jnana yoga, that destroys ignorance of the separate self. Yes, silence is paramount but is not conditional. Waves of thoughts can raise and subside in consciousness, If they aren't followed up but let alone with knowledge of advaita vedanta still liberation is possible. This pauses a questin; why is it that the bakhti raja & karma yogis have found it hard to attain salvation ? Because, the cause of separation that lead suffering is due to Ignorance and the only antidote is Self - Knowledge. BE HAPPY ❤❤

6.35 : Mechanical answer , observation: I am sorry I don't ageree with this statement. What else is self-enquiry supposed to be. Self enquiry is required to direct the mind back to its source. Answering to some one who is asking a question is required to be answered, that who is asking this question, because Self absolutely has no doubts and is absolutely peaceful and its the separate self who is in doubt and upset. Therefore the right answer is who is upset, who is in doubt etc. This is to encourage the mind to engage in self-enquiry and that is the best way.

If the exact same answers was all that was needed no matter what the question, teachers would not exist; we could just write that answer down somewhere and everyone, everywhere, could reference it and find awakening. Clearly it is not at all that easy.

It's contradictory and almost irrational. I think it diminishes, demeans an individual mind to say we are only other points of view in a whole/one being. I still can not quite understand how we can be one being when I'm obviously not you, whomever you are. It's not quite rational.
Why can't separation/individuality be a real thing even when we are all connected, even part of something bigger?
    Why must individuality be diminished?

but 'Silence' is identical to Eternity, the 'I', the Eternal Living Being, and the Empty Space,
    which means 'space-less space'.
So, there is No magic in the 'I', the Magic, is what the 'I' do,

Eckharte Tolle did. It's entitled, "Stillness Speaks". It's my favorite and I never finished it. (seriously)

the ego answers mechanically to deflect from the truth in your mind, as you go along repeating 'affirmation', appearing to 'help'. Bc it thinks it has learned 'how to'. Method, technique may work one once or twice.
The egoic thought is more fear in the 'head' while God, Christ brings true release. No dogma no pat answers. Ask again.
