    A conversation with Rupert Spira about the unfolding of his realization.
    From an early age Rupert was deeply interested in the nature of Reality. For twenty years he studied the teachings of Ouspensky, Krishnamurti, Rumi, Shankaracharya, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta and Robert Adams, until he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, twelve years ago. Francis introduced Rupert to the teaching of Jean Klein, Parmenides, Wei Wu Wei and Atmananda Krishnamenon and, more importantly, directly indicated to him the true nature of experience.
    Rupert’s first book is “The Transparency of Things,” subtitled “Contemplating the Nature of Experience”. His second book, “Presence Volume I The Art of Peace and Happiness and Presence Volume II The Intimacy of All Experience” has been currently released by Non-Duality Press. non-duality.rupertspira.com/

    The three stages of realization that are mentioned in the above video are:
    Stage:1--The realization that you are pure awareness.
    Stage:2-The recognition that the nature of the awareness is infinite both in time and space.
    Stage:3-The endless process to manage to live all the realms of your life in accordance with the discoveries of stage 1(one) and 2(two).

    There are several separate stages to Enlightenment/ Self Realization. Read through the Dr. David R. Hawkins material (about 10 books). Start with "Power v. Force". Best to read them in the order written. He delineates the many different levels of consciousness, explains what you experience on each level, and how to get there. In over 50 years of study (and practice) on the subject of consciousness elevation, this is absolutely the best material. Best of luck.

    When did we decide happiness was our right? The grace of being embodied I find beyond words. I think it's Gibrabran who said when a friend allows you to weep together we are friends. I used to belong to the boo ha club. One tale teller would be reviting. Eventually we wept so hard we began to laugh....I also laughed as a child when I was beaten as a child. Pain leads to transformation when love and connection are present.

    Padmasambhava says:
    Oh, once you have calmed the compulsive thoughts in your mind right where they are, and the mind is unmodified, isn't there a motionless stability? Oh, this is called quiescence, but it is not the nature of the mind.
    Now, steadily observe the very nature of your own mind that is being still. Is there a resplendent emptiness that is nothing, that is unestablished in the nature of any substance, shape, or color? That is called the empty essence.
    Isn't there a luster of that emptiness that is unceasing, clear, immaculate, soothing, and luminous, as it were? That is called the luminous nature. Its essential nature is the indivisibility of sheer emptiness, not established as anything, and its unceasing, vivid luster-such awareness is resplendent and brilliant as it were.
    This present, unmoving consciousness, which cannot be directly expressed in words, is given the name awareness. That which thinks is this alone, so it is given the name mind. It is this that is mindful of all kinds of things, so it is given the name mindfulness. While it is not seen, it is a special seeing that is clear, steady, unmediated, and steadfast, so it is given the name insight.
    It is that that makes distinctions among all specific phenomena, like separating the layers of a mushroom, so it is given the name discerning wisdom. All terms such as the sugatagarbha, the sole the absolute nature, primordial wisdom, the middle way, ultimate truth, Mahamudra, Atiyoga, and emptiness are names of this alone."

    I am pure awareness. Okay I get that. Without awareness, I wouldn't be much of anything. But I haven't seen any reasonable explanation that the nature of my awareness is infinite both in time and space. That seems like pure conjecture to me. There is no birth and death? How do you know my awareness is not a seed that starts and ends with my physical existence? Or even if it was universal, how do I know it didn't start at some point and end at some point? Or what it's nature is--perhaps it's just a spark, nothing more. Just because I can't see and experience birth or death, or yesterday, or over there which is not here, doesn't mean it doesn't exist! Can anybody please show me how we can conclude that our awareness is infinite???

    Still waiting to experientially discover that what I am is without limits. I ask myself of what will I be aware when I am dead and the answer seems to be nothing. Awareness seems to be very limited, I am not aware of anybody else's thoughts only my own. I'm not aware of what's happening in my friend's house right now. The list of things of which I have no awareness is huge so it definitely appears that my awareness is limited. So rationally I cannot say that awareness is without limits. Like I said I'm still waiting for some kind of experience that shows me that I'm mistaken.

      I can relate...please share if you gain any insight/make any experiential progress on this second stage!

    A beautiful video from a very wise man.
    There is however two errors, and that is firstly; that there are no numerical stages of realization.
    Realization and enlightenment is fathomless and as deep as the space of the universe.
    Secondly, there is a distinction between awareness and consciousness as with awareness there is always a distance towards the sensed object. Space between taste, sound, touch, visual and cognition. Consciousness however, has no distance, and thus is forever present and impersonal. In other words, awareness is an extension of consciousness, but not consciousness itself.
    Of all the teachers I have read and listened to, there is only Barry Long who has been capable of penetrating the deepest level of consciousness which is truly worth listening to if you are searching for the truest truth.

      The mention of stages are merely a teaching aide (and i haven't even seen it yet).
      Point two, He uses the words interchangeably sometimes.

    How am I aware of being aware without the body, like what happens when I die? How does awareness take place then?? And what does he mean by the non-objective experience of being aware, that there are no objective qualities?

    At about 5.15 this just breaks down in terms of coherence. You don't need to take this extra step into 'non objective' 'limitless' 'knowing ' but maybe - we automatically do in the absense of 'God'. Who is the knower ? Confusing awareness which has its roots in our ancestry with a 'panpsychic' kind of consciousness is projection, and ultimately understandable in human terms, but I think it bypasses some hard existential aspects to the reality we are inextricably enmeshed in.

    I understand the first part. That everything happens in awareness, but I don't get that awareness is without limit. It might be without limit, but how do we know since we only experience it with limits? Nobody is aware of a specific rock on the far side of the moon, but that doesn't mean it's not there. Can anybody explain this in a way that doesn't require faith, feeling or belief?

    This seems to me another way of saying 'I am the universe experiencing itself'

    "I am aware" is a thought. When there is no thought you don't know that you are aware.

      Awareness exists prior to thoughts and emotions that appear in it.
      This makes more sense if you grasp the illusion of the ego and have deep meditative experiences. If you want sources of authority on the scientific end, I would suggest the work of Sam Harris. None of this depends on any religion or dogma.

    • @kekfuszal
      @kekfuszal 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ShakinJamacian In order for you to know that you are aware you need the knowledge that has been given to you which is thought. Otherwise you don't know that you are aware. You don't even know what awareness is. Awareness is merely a thought. Awareness doesn't exist. The thought about awareness that exists. "I am aware" is merely a thought. Nothing else.

    • @ShakinJamacian
      @ShakinJamacian 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kekfuszal Well, what exists then? If awareness doesn't, what does? The nonsensical concepts like souls, selves, and egos?

    • @kekfuszal
      @kekfuszal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ShakinJamacian Well, even the question "what exists" comes out of the knowledge you have. Which is thought. Whatever exists or not, you have no way of figuring it out. All we have is to think ABOUT it. Trying to understand what life is, exists or not is futile. And there is no need for us to do so.

      what a silly point. so Pluto didn't exist until we saw it? awareness is merely a thought? awareness does not require thought whatsoever. an animal or insect has no thought but it has awareness. you have it backwards and simply lack understanding. this is my impression of you: "the ocean doesn't exist. only waves exist." sorry dude but you're a frickin idiot when it comes to this enlightenment stuff.
