    That makes 3 of us re the stunning Molteno Pass, thank-you for this incredible episode. I told someone about the channel and the vehicle that you use, "don't you mean a duster" he says (he has one), I reply "no a Kwid" , "a Kwid" he replies in almost disbelief.

      Thank you for spreading the word about our channel, we so appreciate that. 😊 I'm sure the Kwid's big brother is a great vehicle, we often pass them on our travels. (Sidenote: if you're not one already, you should become a writer. 😁)

    That pass was amazing. I know you caught it as the sun was going down which makes it much more beautiful. Those rock formations were simple out of this world just loved it as well as the animals what a lovely surprise. Thank you .

      This truly remains one of the most beautiful roads we've ever been on. 😍 You're correct, the time of day just made it all the more gorgeous! The giraffe and eland were the cherries on top! 🦒🐐

    The hammerkop also makes a nest of sticks and grasses on the edge of cliffs, it comes back to it year after year, the nest starts looking something like what you found.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is very interesting, we never knew that hamerkop make their nests on cliffs. We were convinced that it must be a huge bird like an eagle or some other bird of prey. 🦅 Thank you for the info!

      Agreed! We think back to that road often and still think it's one of the most beautiful roads we've travelled on. 😍

    Ah yes, Beaufort west! When I was little it was our stop over on route to the Free State. We would stay at the Wagon Wheels Motel. And the restaurant there had the yummiest food! But I am talking about 50 plus years ago! So lucky to see the giraffes and the eland. My knees make awful noises, and other joints too! But arthritis is in the genes! And in my jeans too. Back to the knees! Your nest may be that of a black eagle, which frequents that area.

      The Wagon Wheels accommodation establishment is still there, you'll be happy to know. 😁 We drove past there recently. Yup, with the years, comes the creaking joints. Unfortunately for some worse than others! 😣 That was a huge nest, I would've loved to see the bird who it belongs to, actually make a graceful landing! 🦅

      @@DustBugsTravel I once sqaw a black eagle nest on a krans in Karoopark. There was a baby eagle inside! So cute

    Great trip through the Molteno pass and lovely pics! - FYI that was not the Gamka Dam, just a large farm dam at the farm Rosedene - the Gamka Dam is much closer to Beaufort West - near where you saw the giraffes.

      Thank you, glad that you enjoyed our video! This remains one of the most fantastic gravel road passes we've ever done and the time of the evening was just perfect. 🤩 Thank you for the correction, much appreciated. I must admit we saw the Gamka Dam sign shortly after turning off the N1, so obviously missed the dam altogether. 🙄 We'll go check it out when we're in the area again. 🦒🚗

      😁 When you're from the Free State, you have your own unique brand of English. And when you marry an Afrikaans lady, you create this special blend between the two. Cliffs, kranses, all the same thing to us. 😎

      @@DustBugsTravel Actually I thought it was very cool... from now on I will also refer to cliffs as Kranses when travelling our great country....

      We have been asked this question hundreds of times and in as many different ways and we still don't have an answer, because we simply wouldn't be able to choose any one place. 🤷🏻‍♂️ If it were possible, we'd move to the Kruger National Park today. 😍
