Yeah, I just saw them a couple weeks ago. This video was the first I’d ever heard of CHVRCHES back when it was released, and it’s awesome to see how far they’ve come. Still dealing with technical problems though! Lol
Her voice, their ability to synthesize their songs... they're a great combination of skill and balance of talent. What a great display. Also in love with the human touch of personal interest and semi-(maybe feigned) nervousness from the band. Fan of them, and all the friends I've introduced their music to agrees.

Kryptonite in a bad sense. Beautiful cherub she is, the Leftist in her soul is as ugly as it gets. This is the only concert I listen to. The rest...meh...
Lauren is a beauty of a singer and she fits 100% into the Band - in my opinion SHE is the spirit of the Band! Her very natural fine voice gives us something that has gone missing for quite a time in the music industry - she is a very natural jung girl and NOT a Melodyne manipulated pseudo singer like most of what we hear today in almost any styles. Wish the music industry had more such natural talents!
the fact that she is insanely attractive may be colouring your overall view Manuel, but then again, subjectivity is a handy card to play. People have naughty thoughts about her I'm sure. You can play that card too. I think she is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
This my favorite performance from them. The small crowd, the intimacy between them and the band, and the fact that things go wrong with the equipment just makes it all genuine to me. Chvrches might not be my favorite band of all time, but I always find myself coming back to listen to them.
I really like CHVRCHES studio work, but man they need to do something more with their live performances. It just feels like karaoke. I know these guys are all talented as fuck, they just need to get creative and add some new element to it. A real drummer would be really cool if they could pull it off right.
Man this is just a radio station performance, the fact you get to see a video of it is good enough. They are not there to put on a spectacle. A real drummer is absolutely meaningless here.
The way they created their music is very hard to replicate again. The sound has undergone endless tweaks to get it that way. Its not a stock instrument, so the only way they could do it is like this.
Just my humble opinion, but they do sound great live. It sounds natural and more slow paced, just what the studio version lacks in. And what makes it special live are all those little comments they say in the meantime between songs. Sorry if there is any error, I am not a native speaker.
What's with the microphone cord fondling anyways? There must be something better to do than just standing there, although they really warmed up after the first couple of songs.
I don't really get it. Every songs sounds about the same, no interesting things happening at all. It just sounds like a lot of sounds and a singer with a voice which is okay. Nothing exciting... And no that guy can't sing, it's really bad. Off key, bad pronunciation and a really dull voice.
The fact is, they aren't using AutoTune like many artists are so fond of relying on in the glut of assembly-line music these days. I'd MUCH rather hear raw vocals mess up than hear a perfectly tuned melody ANY day. I'm a novice musician (don't read notes, never had any formal training, etc.), but, like many (this includes those who are intermediary and pro) musicians, I can TELL when some serious thought goes into constructing a song. To quote a song from Rush.."The Spirit Of Radio": "All this machinery making modern music can still be open-hearted". This is true, IF the artist using it puts thier passion into it. Don't discount what some call "button pushers". Chopin was a "button pusher". Beethoven, Bach, etc., were as well. Just because some musician doesn't make music everyone loves doesn't mean that that person is a "wanker" or loser. The REAL losers are those who make carbon-copy/cookie cutter/assembly line music and RELY on rehashed, UNORIGINAL IDEAS (as in using someone ELSE'S "hook" and claiming it as "original"). Real music comes from the heart and soul, and, whether it's rap, rock, metal, EDM/EBM, or country...If you're REAL, your fans WILL feel it.
And, no, having two verses, then the remaining 99 percent of a song is the same words over and over like most top40 isn't "artistry". That is called...unoriginal.
Lauren is amazing. I love her demeanor, and her authenticity. She's just a girl singing her songs. Not trying to be an entertainer. And I love it. She's real. You can see her soul. Also, this audience is SO lame!!! Don't move, anybody.... seriously, its fine....
Having live performances on TH-cam without time markers feels like listening to a cassette in the age of CD so: 0:47 We Sink 4:20 Lies 9:01 Gun 13:05 Recover 18:20 Under The Tide 24:07 The Mother We Share

WOW, priorities... personally, I'M DOWNLOADING IT NOW, it's worth blowing some bandwith on to me... I like it, the lyrics are brilliant and poetic, she's got a voice that melts, and that's all that matters, good musicians, good songs with meaning and rhythm... yep, it's actually worth stealing!
You can hear problems with the equipment on Recover. It pops up late and doesn't cut out when it's supposed to. That wouldn't happen if it was just pre-recorded playback.
PaveLowExpert They cover what they can on those MIDI controllers and whatever else, but then the parts they can't cover they use tracks. I would assume that's the case.
i think a lot of times they'll play one and just have it repeat over and over again and then they control when it goes away or not. idk if that made sense but geographer does the same thing and i've seen them live. whatever they're playing is just a phrase repeated again and again.
Dolores O'Riordan, Harriet Wheeler and Sinéad O'Connor have an heir apparent as far as I am concerned. Her voice has a haunting quality to it and the subject matter lends to a deep musical experience…Keep it up Lauren!
Did anyone notice the major fuck ups during Mother We Share? The vocal effects that are "performed" on the maschine played with out the guy even pressing the pads, and then a few looped at the end.. The way he acts is that each pad is linked to a different 'ah' but it seems like that isnt the case...
***** Thank you! I couldn't be the only person to notice this. At first I thought... maybe it was running through a delay pedal/looper... but then I saw that the repeats stop once the bass player presses the spacebar on the laptop. Disappointing considering real talented live performers out there.
Those were not major fuck ups, good artists tend to throw a little something extra into their live performances. It didn't exactly play without him touching it in the sense of being a fuck up, he intentionally set those loops.
There's 3 artists and between 3-6 different layers of music going on. Loops are common place in live-electro performances. the whole idea is that you can't find enough people you like to create the music you want so you create it yourself, then loop it into the schpiele. Makes the artists seem that much more talented in my eyes
+ricardlupus I think the question was more along the lines of "how do you play the electronic stuff live?" where it's much more well-understood that rock is played live with guitars and drums, some of the more abstract genres like this are a little more confusing
+Jesus Herrera Analog synths and drum machines. They're all synchronized thru MIDI which helps keep time. From what I can see they guy on the left has: Moog Voyager Roland Juno/Jupiter?? Ableton Live on Laptop Guy on the Right: NI Maschine Roland something, kinda hard to see The hardest thing is keeping everything in time and working properly.
This performance is on point. An almost perfect CHVRCHES show. Officially have to see them in concert now. Side note: I feel so bad for people who look at a performance like this, and all they can do is piss & moan about how much the DJ headbangs during the song or speculate on some aspect of the lead singer's physicality. You're a joyless sort of people, and I want nothing to do with you.
This was 2013, when ***** was really blossoming in the U.S. There were definitely kinks in this particular performance. If you play this side by side with a show from last week, their growth is amazing.
Five years later, it's amazing to see how far Lauren's voice has come. She's gotten so good, her voice is so clear and expressive
Yeah, I just saw them a couple weeks ago. This video was the first I’d ever heard of CHVRCHES back when it was released, and it’s awesome to see how far they’ve come. Still dealing with technical problems though! Lol
10 year challenge.
Who would have thought it, 10 years just like that.
Definitely my favourite band for the past 10 years.

I was wrong...the multiple vocals are actually beautiful together. Please forgive me. This performance is magical sounding !!
NO ONE IS GONNA GET OFFENDED BY THE WORD "FUCK" JESUS CHRIST
I AGREE. FUCK JESUS CHRIST.
That may be true, but letting it slide was probably not worth getting slapped with a fine.
Is she an actual fairy.
Like she straight up is the closest thing humanity has to a mythical woodland creature
+kevinsmellls LOL! That honestly is the most perfect description possible.
+kevinsmellls Wood Elves FTW

ShadeyBladey I redact my comment. Bjork probably wins it
Thank you Chvrche folks.
it's so cool how the synths sound just a little bit different, like they tweaked it on the album, even though it's clearly the same actual synths.
It's all sampled, the main focus is on Lauren's vocals.
that sweet voice make me feel so nice

All of that music out of just three people- awesome!
The way the 2 guys bop around is actually really infectious, I've found myself doing it when I get really into it lol
sorry for wathing maybe 10 years later before meeting that music, it's a GREAT MUSIC!!! 😘near Depeche Mode ☺
Her voice isn't bad, it's simple. It makes the music. I don't know how to describe her voice, but it's adorable, and you all know it.
Idd, it's adorable and moving in a way.
Noah McDaniel I can describe her voice for you:
Perfectly ordinary. It's the "girl next door" of voices.
Type blue archives :)
Alan Jagger blue sky archives*
frizzybob Lol? Are you ok? You do realize this comment was in response to all the people who say her voice is bad. Simple is just my description of her voice, but I meant it in a good way.
I actually do have a cover on my channel, so go ahead and check it out. I'm not Billy Idol, but most people like my voice and I've sung in front of an audience of 3000 before, so don't tell me how big my balls are. My voice has also gotten a lot fuller and steadier since the video on my page, and my range has an increased dramatically. so brilliant
Lauren is so talented & unique ,she's like Kryptonite for most men & some women ,makes me weak on the knees
Kryptonite in a bad sense. Beautiful cherub she is, the Leftist in her soul is as ugly as it gets. This is the only concert I listen to. The rest...meh...
She is so cute and good vocal!!
Guy on the right puts some real passion in his work.
Yep a bit too much 😂
He crossed into a cerebral palsy zone, so I guess that's intense.
my favorite new band!!
Reason 37 why Lauren is the most adorable girl in the music industry:
Jawa impressions.
Lol, I was wondering what the hell that was. Awesome.
not gonna lie. fell in love after this video...
23:21 ON POINT!
Saw them at ACL fest, great show!

willzer808 I agree, she is ethereal!
willzer808 I wish she did a photoshooting, there are almost no pics of her.
My favorite performances here: Gun / The Mother We Share
i watched this over 50 times in the last 4 days. i love chvrches
She is great live
she‘s so cute
so good live
After seeing them 6 times live over past 8 years I love going back and watching their early performances. Love them ❤
Awesome!
14:49 how do I mute this note again?
Hayden Pernia Runaway synth, haha.
Hayden Pernia lol, I thought they did well to keep going without being distracted by it! #RECOVER

WOO TEE NEE! ^_^
I love guy on the left's expression when his program freezes or something during recover. good save from the band though, guess no one else noticed!
What? When does that happen?
Mathi De Pauw @ 14:50
Cindy Lauper meets M83, it's brilliant.
She is beautiful
This my favorite performance from them. The small crowd, the intimacy between them and the band, and the fact that things go wrong with the equipment just makes it all genuine to me. Chvrches might not be my favorite band of all time, but I always find myself coming back to listen to them.
nice 80s feel Im diggin this shit no kidding
This crowd just didn't want to dance. This was a good performance i don't care what anyone says.
That guy at the front was moshing pretty hard! Shame he was the only one, would have jammed out with him if i had the chance.
The band doesn't even dance. That's the problem with this wave of electronic music. Dance music that nobody dances to.
***** Recorded in portland
Xaymot The band's not dancing? Are we watching the same video?
You call that dancing? Do we live in the same dimension?
I freaking love them
How's she 28?!?! She's like 9
+Tyger Voods shes 84
funniest user name I have ever seen in my life...goddamn
HAHAHAHAHAH
Lauren was 25 in this recording. :D
I'm 25 and I look like 65 comparing to her even in 2017... incredible human being she is :D
good!
I actually really liked the times when the guy sang 😁
Did she walk out with a cup of coffee and a water bottle?! Fucking amazing!
I've never seen anyone get SO INTO pushing fucking buttons.

I agree. Amazing to hear, boring to watch. I watched the video of the Phantogram's show on KEXP and it was great.
this is awsome. CHVRCHES is a great new influence for me I love it
0:46 the drop on the guy on the right was so advance
that his body has to go though exorcism for a sec

Did anyone else hear 'Mia' when she said 'We Are' in the beginning of the first song?
I don't really get it. Every songs sounds about the same, no interesting things happening at all. It just sounds like a lot of sounds and a singer with a voice which is okay. Nothing exciting... And no that guy can't sing, it's really bad. Off key, bad pronunciation and a really dull voice.
Yeah, the singing was probably the weakest element.. but pronounciation.. the band's from Glasgow, so... ?
lol Hozier made a song of this band
which song??
take me to chvrch
loooooooooooool
Sons of Axe hahaha
Sons of Axe good joke
Crownd arent alive. What a performance. Woulda been a mentel gig in glesga.
The opening riff to "We Sink" is everything about why I love CHVRCHES.
Undecided on whether I like the music, but I have to admit, the timbre of the singers voice and her range suits it very well
Naah.

I really enjoy this band. I especially like how they incorporated technical difficulties at the 14:28 minute mark.

Hahaha she has a very high pitched voice, she could literally voice-over any animated film for kids.
The people in the crowd don't seem to be super into them which sucks because if I was there I'd be incredible pumped. Love this band!
Agree suppose they got the tickets for free? Lol. Or there to see a main act?
Even though I love Laurens singing, Under The Tides always really gets to me
She is as nerdy and adorable as it gets -- I love it. I would not be surprised if she was hiding elf ears underneath that hair!
23:28 Lauren is so adorable
SHE'S SO CUTE OMG
The guy on the right and his tribal dancing made my day
She looks and talks like my ex-girlfriend and it makes me uneasy. Can't fault 'em for that tho.
you fucked up bro
she tried to omit the " fuck" in the first song. this is cute
It was great especially since they didn't have time to rehearse the censored version.
Are the guys playing instruments or just pretending to touch knobs like DJs? (serious question)
You can hear problems with the equipment on Recover. It pops up late and doesn't cut out when it's supposed to. That wouldn't happen if it was just pre-recorded playback.
speelbergo I think you could, as in one plays the melody and the other plays other layers.
PaveLowExpert They cover what they can on those MIDI controllers and whatever else, but then the parts they can't cover they use tracks. I would assume that's the case.
drspin155 That would make sense, whatever the case those guys are awesome.
i think a lot of times they'll play one and just have it repeat over and over again and then they control when it goes away or not. idk if that made sense but geographer does the same thing and i've seen them live. whatever they're playing is just a phrase repeated again and again.
fuck FIFA 14
***** EA Sports UFC is pretty good. Your comment is a bad overgeneralization.
We Sink song of the fifa 14!
that guy dancing in the front is my new role model
I love how she downplays her sex appeal. She wants it to be about the music.
Dolores O'Riordan, Harriet Wheeler and Sinéad O'Connor have an heir apparent as far as I am concerned. Her voice has a haunting quality to it and the subject matter lends to a deep musical experience…Keep it up Lauren!
OMG is that her real nose? She's so beautiful and cute
that comment fits your picture
lain Iwaku lol I meant if she had a plastic cirgury or something. I've never seen a girl with such a nose.
Really? It is quite normal in Sweden...
My best friend has a nose just like that one. Although it is not as cute on him XD
I hope she voices a Jawa in one of the next Star Wars movies! :D
Is it just me who has watched the entire video more than once?
☝🏻
No😊
It has replay value for sure
i love these WEQX sessions. I go back to them all the time for at least a dozen bands. i may skip through conversations
Absolutely LOVE Chvrches! :D. Amazing performance!!!!!!!!! :D
shame that others base the performance of on Lauren's looks. That's incredibly rude.
Lauren looks like Jodie Foster's great grandchild
vforvillain77 as old as the stars, for a star is what she is
***** They would literally have to all have kids before they're 20, and even then that would make the great granddaughter like two years old.
***** what have I started? maybe i should approach Lauren asking if she would like a documentary made of her family tree.
***** I have no idea who Claire Grogan is lol
***** That would require me to switch from the TH-cam app to the Google app. I'll take your word for it.
15:49 I love the way he looks
Really good band.Just heard of them now.
I heard of them this month. Can't believe they were they hidden from me.

This band and lorde are here to save music.
I saw them at corona capital and I have to say that they sound great live
Does anyone know what equipment you have to buy to make music that sounds like this? I don't understand how this is something you can play live.
+Jesus Herrera It's honestly not the equipment. It's the talent.
+ricardlupus I think the question was more along the lines of "how do you play the electronic stuff live?"
where it's much more well-understood that rock is played live with guitars and drums, some of the more abstract genres like this are a little more confusing
+Jesus Herrera Analog synths and drum machines. They're all synchronized thru MIDI which helps keep time. From what I can see they guy on the left has:
Moog Voyager
Roland Juno/Jupiter??
Ableton Live on Laptop
Guy on the Right:

Roland something, kinda hard to see
The hardest thing is keeping everything in time and working properly.
