  • This is part of the series of Servicing a John Deere LT 111 Lawn Tractor.
It has the Popular Briggs & Stratton V Twin Intek engine on it.
In other episodes I go over plugs, oil, Valve Adjustments, Testing coils & More.
Now its time to pull the carburetor and get in for a closer look.
Lets take it apart, clean it and see what's wrong with it.
The we will put it back together and install it.

Hey Arch do you have a vid on a Nikki crab that surges. I put a gasket kit in it and can't get it to run smoothly. It surges and cuts out on high throttle. It's off a 17.5 Briggs Craftsman LT1000

    • @TheNovaJohn

Hey Ray, I don't think so,,,Nikki is kinda odd.. Some people hate them.. I know I must have a vid or 2 with footage as part of it but I cant think of one by itself.
I have a machine here right now and tomorrow I need to go over the carb. Its not surging, its just not picking up fuel. Its a Nikki and and new, it was on the engine when I got it.
You may need to drill the carb out. I have heard that cheapy aftermarket ones often need drilling. There is another carb that replaces it. I'm not sure of the model but it does exist

So the jet that fell out did go down into the float? I had this happen when doing mine yesterday after watching this video to the back together point and wanted to make doubly sure before I put mine back on

If you have the jet in the proper place the O ring on the jet will hold it in place. Maybe you dont have it in the correct location? Or the O ring has shrunk and won't stay in place. But in that case it should have been replaced. But frankly, whenever you disassemble an old carb you should be prepared to replace all the seals and gaskets. Never piecemeal it. Cheers

Yea, I didn't have an extra and he wanted it back asap..
I really want to stay away from these carbs..No One likes them!
There is an alternative carb that fits.. I forget the number.. Next chance I get I'm gonna write that down and shoot a short!

The culprit is the Nikki style carb; have same carb on my v-twin going to see if I can find a Walbro style online.

Not a bad idea!! I did a recent kinda update on how to inspect and rebuilt one of these. Much better video.
They MUST be rebuilt on the bench, they cannot and should NOT be opened up on the engine/machine!
Ya must have good gasket/O rings!
It MUST be in really good shape unlike older Briggs or even tecummy type carbs that often with rebuild and run fine even when a little rotted lol!
These just cant handle anything other than being like new! HORROR lol

@@deathchant001 not that I have found, however, had my Nikki 2bbl not cleaned up enough to run decent for the time being, I would have bought an Amazon Chinese knockoff replacement and then made sure I run the float bowl dry at the end of the mowing season.

Kits are not that high when you think about losing customers and come back jobs

Not worried about this guy,, he was a pain in da arse from the get go,,
I told him to get rid of the machine,,the tranny is shot!
All these other repairs are to find that out and get it running for a time..
He didn't want to let the machine go cuz his wife gave it to him..BUT that tranny is gonna soak cash well over a grand at least just to buy it!
He didnt wanna pay the few bucks I charged!
Sometimes ya just gotta get guys like that out of the door and hope ya NEVER see them again.
BTW that's an older video, from when I 1st started

You should learn what is what on that carb before making a "how to" video. What you identified as the throttle and choke were incorrect the choke is the top cable and the cable that hooks in the Governor is the throttle. Click bait for dummies!!
