I met Justin Chancellor at a soccer game in 2009 and literally broke into subtle tears that he, thankfully, didn't notice. We shared some beers and did NOT talk about TOOL. Supercool guy.
@@chucknorris1948 nah there's an interview where Justin talks about not really wanting to join tool and wrote this baseline on the plane ride to audition.
This song changed my life. I wasn’t in a good place as a young man but that changed one night. I took mushrooms and sat in front a speaker at my brother’s house for six hours with this album on repeat. No one noticed, we were all tripping. The words and music spoke to me, told me that I could evolve mentally and spiritually. It showed me I wasn’t the only one struggling to crawl out from under their rock and look at the sun. Changed me forever, for the better. These guys are the best at what they do. Thanks for doing this one!
Tool & Shrooms... the absolute best way to open your mind and reconsider what is possible. Saw them live in Orlando on a HEAVY dose. Insane experience.
Ender7 your comments gave me chills. They’re one of my very favorite bands, I saw them on their first ever tour and it was life altering, a spiritual, transcendent experience. I’m a retired firefighter of 27yrs, I struggle with depressive holes and mental health issues occasionally, due to nearly 30yrs of seeing people at the worst times of their lives. Nothing works like music…it along with my loving wife and dogs are THE ONLY things that can pull me out. Thank you for sharing, it made my evening. Especially since I’ve tripped more times in my life than I can count and when you’re dialed in to your surroundings, it’s a very special feeling. 🍻

This is one of my favorites. lol they’re all my favorites. The meaning behind this is learning to let go of the ego and heal your shadow. To keep evolving and growing, learning and loving yourself. I’m struggling with this sometimes lately. But I’m trying so hard.

So i am an absolute sucker for lyrics because i am writing poetry myself and this song is a masterpiece let me tell you. He is basically singing about the next step in human evolution. 46&2 is referring to the amout of chromosomes in humans. 46 is the current amount and two additional chromosomes is assumed to be the next step towards ascend. When he is talking about the shadow he is speaking in the idea of a very famous psychologist Carl G. Jung who speaks of the shadow quite often in his work. My mission as an individual is it to integrate the shadow of my personality into my live and learn to live with it in the best way possible. This is the theme of this song. Shedding skin. I didn't know you watched Polo Reacts John! I have absolutely loved watching his reactions to Tool! Their music seems to get a lot of folks through incredibly difficult times. Music that is transcendental, complex, and never boring!
It never gets old seeing someone experiencing Tool for the first time! I am a classically trained musician/singer/songwriter who had an original alt-heavy rock band in the 90s. When Tool came out, it was like they’d reinvented the wheel. There was a lot of anti Tool sentiment from the “grunge” (for a lack of a better word) or classic rock scenes. As a trained musician, I could understand just how sonically mind blowing Tool’s music is. Keep in mind, we’re still in the age of the “guitar hero” of 80’s metal of varying genres. I hated gratuitous guitar solos & loved that Adam Jones was using his instrument to create & build intense moods. I appreciated each one of Tool’s members for their musicianship, for their dedication to creating something new & incredibly powerful. As a songwriter, Maynard’s lyrics & otherworldly sounding voice blew me away & challenged me to push my own writing. Justin’s dense riffs make songs come alive & OMG Danny Carey!!! Drum God who is a gift to this world. THIRTY years of loving Tool & it never gets old. I love how you now love them too! Share the love!! ❤️🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️

Agree with the first two sentences, and then I remember that Tool isn't even my favorite Maynard band (A Perfect Circle). Still, can't find any fault in your opinion. Both offer wildly different vibes, while maintaining unconventional sounds within their respective genres; each providing a surface-level suggestion of chaos, but meticulously created.
@David Monroe well I am one of the few TOOL fanatics that really doesn't care for Maynard's other projects. They have a few songs I will listen to, but for the most part, they are pretty meh to me. But hey, to each his own 🍻
@Lance Thompson I get it. Tool is my preference between the two while doing anything (driving, housework, etc.). APC is better sitting music for my tastes. Honestly, I'd love to see them in a small, all seated venue; a la a stereotypical Jazz lounge.
I've loved Tool since Undertow released. My 5 year old daughter heard me viewing your video. She said that the music gets in her head and makes her in a mood. And says she likes it, lol.
One of my favorites.. learned this bassline by ear when I was 16, absolute classic My suggestion for the next ones are Vicarious, Jambi, or.... the Holy Trinity- Disposition, Reflection, and Triad. All 3 of those need to be listened to as a single performance, because they flow together
I read an article, and they said: " We never changed, it's like we are are on a river bank, the water flowed (the times) and finally reached our bank, and it will flow past. Whether we are remembered after it's gone, only time will tell, but we will still remain in our same spot fishing for receptive minds.
Maynard has another band called Perfect Circle. Check out the song Judith . The bass player is Paz … love her ….Tool gets into you through and through .
I have been a tool fan since the late nineties and I got a chance to watch them perform this song live at a small outside venue and during the song, out of nowhere I was overcome with emotion. I was standing there with tears streaming down my face, enjoying every second. I went by myself to that show.
I know that feeling. You really get a special connection to a song if it manages to make you cry. I get that for specific songs from Jinjer and Heilung. Those will alsways stay close to me.
Did the same thing when I saw them live for the first time around 2000. The ending got me very emotional. Polo needs to see them live. It’s life-changing.
The other day I was listening to this song in my car with my wife, and suddenly the lyrics made so much more sense to me. I've been doing major work with my therapist digging into my traumas from a past filled with abuse and pain. This song is about digging into what you've been hiding from yourself, the past pain and trauma, digging into the infected wounds on your heart, healing, and moving through the shadows and darkness and evolving to a higher state. It's very psychological, and I am once again in awe of how deep Tool's lyrics are.
I have watched several ppl reacting to TOOL but your reactions are the best in that you don't see as surface but you go deep I dig your reactions and thoughts. I appreciate everyone's reactions but you are my fav
If you get a chance, go see TOOL live, you won't be disappointed. As you watched with their Sober live performance, they're close to their recorded versions, the band is even better live now. I've seen them quite a few times over the last couple of decades and there has never been a bad performance, and easily the best band I've seen live in my forty years of going to concerts. Good reaction as always. The continuation video of this reaction was great, just don't drunk text anyone, that shit never works out. lol
This is one of my favorites, the whole album is a masterpiece. I had to sub now after a few views on the channel. And a big thumbs up for the Thor reference (as a Swede). Cheers!
Carl Jung, Frued's best student says, “Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is".
I love how much you connect with the music and really allow yourself to slip into the journey. You're definitely going through Tool's top tier tracks, and they really don't have any bad or mediocre songs. SO much ahead of you too!
My brother, Bobby, was a HUGE tool fan. Loved A Perfect Circle, too. Before he passed, we talked about his funeral. He didn’t want the typical music you’d hear at a funeral. Nothing sad. He wanted me to play nothing but Tool and A Perfect Circle at his wake. You know, it’s crazy, but my brother wanted this song played when he was buried. It’s funny when I remember the looks I got when I placed my phone under his casket… but I felt Him and I know he approved. The looks I got when I played this song as they put his casket in the ground…. He would have loved it. Love you, Babo:)
The greatest part about Tool is that they take you on a magical musical journey while shoving hard facts and dark humor in with an abundance of schooling…. ☺️
I am newer to your channel. I have been binging some of the videos. I appreciate when you state you have heard something and keep it real. But watching your first reaction to tool is amazing. I have a trained ear and can say I have performed many shows live. But watching how you interpret with an open intelligent mind and really capture the flow and articulations of a song is very impressive. tool is a complex creative band. I learn to reappreciate them through you.
Soft, peaceful, beautiful, calming . . . then louder and building but still the same . . . and now crunching and powerful and aggressive . . . but still the same thing. That is genius.
Hey man, i know its been awhile since you did this video, but im just finding your channel-thanks so much for checking out this song, this song hit me deep as a kid and it made me want to get into making muisc and get out of some of the other dumb stuff i was doing that was leading me down a dark pathm..heard this song and i went and sold off most of my stash to a guy in my neighborhood and bought my first bass guitar knowing "yea, i want to do that"
Back in the day when a new tool cd came out you bought it..and then listened to it over and over because one sound will catch you and you miss other things..took a while! Haha. Maynards voice is like another instrument in the songs..awesome 😁💙
That Chord you are hearing is power of a Guitar tuned in Drop D. It's gives such a fat sound by giving you the ability to play a 3 string power chord. Loving going on this journey with you 🤘🤘
Tool does however have a clear cut best song that all Toolarmy will agree apon,,,, its the one thats playing!!!! Literally, so no matter how many you hear, it will always be the one thats playing!!!
I don't know if anybody has said it yet, but the children from "The O'keefe Foundation" slay this song! It's a must watch if your a rocker wanting to keep this Genre alive! 💪
Awesome reaction! Would give anything to hear this song again for the first time! Thank you for sharing your Tool journey and I can’t wait to see you experience even more!
As a bassist my self i can honestly say performing this song is the most liberating thing I've done musically. No matter the mood. Or the heavy straight on my heart. Once we hit that last note....... It's gone
This album came out the day I shipped off to Basic. I waited outside the store until they opened at 9, binge listened, then was picked up at noon and wouldn't hear music again (only cadence) for 5, 6 weeks. This song and Stinkfist (which had been on the radio for a week or two before the album's release) sustained me through that time.
This song is amazing. The lyrics are basically about picking and digging through the crap from your past that messes you up and keeps you from being better. The scabs are the traumas that you allow to shape you, and picking them off exposes the trauma and allows you to process, understand, and truly leave it behind. Tool's the shit
Dude! Welcome aboard the tool train. The facial expressions you were making as you rocked out were great. More tool please. right In two is my favorite tool song. Rock on.🤘🏻🎶🔥
I’m in love with watching you fall in love with these songs. Takes me back to when I first heard them. The more I listen to them the more I become obsessed because they all speak to me that just moves me and makes me feel. Some of their songs got me through some hard times and still do. It’s a requirement too for anyone I date to love Tool. I listen to them so much. Love his other stuff too but 10,000 Days used to be my favorite but it rotates now. So glad I’ve seen them a couple times in concert. So worth it.
Thor with a guitar instead of a hammer 🤣 That's a great metaphor! This is 100% the song that got me hooked on TOOL. Danny goes nuts outside the beat on that drum feature and I'm like what... the drummer is a GOD?!?!? SIGN ME UP! It was a very different experience from just hearing Sober on the local radio station, which is not a bad song, it just doesn't even come close to this... or The Grudge, or Eulogy, or Pneuma... so many crazy good songs
The last question I had for my Daughter, was what was her favorite Tool song? She said 46&2! She was gone two weeks later...... This is one song I can hear that she loved without tears... She saw Tool 3 times and Perfect Circle once!! I miss her every day.... Tool was her all time favorite Band.
This has been my favorite song for 25 years. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your reaction. Watching with you is almost like hearing it for the first time. Please watch the O'Keefe music foundation version of this. It has 27 million views for a reason!
I agree with what others have said... PLEASE look at the Kids Cover 46 and 2 by Tool / O'Keefe Music Foundation. There are haters, but there are also many who respect it for what it is... kids.
POLO!!! I love your tool reactions and subbed to see more! I notice you commenting on how Maynard’s vocals always seem to match perfectly with the instrumentation of the band. Allow me to shed a little light on that. It comes down to the recording process that tool has opposed to your average band. They actually write, play, and perfect their songs first and THEN Maynard listens, contemplates, and draws inspiration from im his mates to then write and record lyrics/vocals to. This is the secret ingredient that creates such perfect accentuation and symbiotic play between the instruments and vocals. Aside from the fact that they’re meant for eachother of course! Cheers and bring on the reactions bro! Try “right in two” when you get a chance and ABSOLUTELY “invincible”
I have to hear Tool every day. Production values on their songs so great with every instrument heard & given equal importance. Even MJK's voice is like another instrument. #ToolArmy
I remember this song was one of my first favorites of Tool. So as favorites change constantly, I don’t listen to this one too much these days. But gd it’s a good song. Fun, even.
This song was my introduction to Tool back in the late 90’s. Talk about life changing. I totally get the Thor analogy and this song def suits a Marvel or DC movie although I doubt they would allow their music to be commercialized in that way. Great reaction and love that you replayed some epic sections multiple times 🤙
I could have swore I've heard tool in a movie...but its like a b side. I know a perfect circle did that one song for that one resident evil movie....kinda over did it...
@poloreacts ...... first of all, awesome channel, and so glad u found tool, ur reactions are great, I gotta ration for u.....its this song "36 & 2" covered by O'Keefe music school....ur welcome
If you've ever seen Tool live, you know they put on a hell of a show. They arrange the set list, visuals and dynamics of their concerts like an acid trip... They build things up slowly to a frenzy, then calm it back down multiple times during the show, creating a whole body experience at every show. I highly recommend seeing them live. It brings their music to life. I've had the privilege of seeing them twice. Once during the Lateralus tour, and once before they were really known and were way down the list of main stage bands at Lalapalooza 1993.
So I've been a bit of a binge of watching you react to TOOL, and I'll tell you it's really awesome and satisfying to watch you blossom into a real TOOL fan, it brings me back to when I first heard these songs back when they first came out, I can tell you appreciate this music🤩🤩🤩🤩
It's about evolution. Humans have 46 chromosomes, 2 more constitute our next step as a species. Or, spiritually, shadows have different meanings in religions, including the soul. Maynard is very intelligent and well-read, he leaves interpretations open to the listener.
The music is always tracked before Maynard ever puts lyrics to a song. It's another thing I've always appreciated about my favorite band, everyone has their chance to shine. It's not just all about Maynard, it's about the band as a whole. Great reaction btw. I'm gonna second the request for Right In Two. It's actually tied for my favorite, with Parabol/Parabola. That would also be an interesting watch. I would love to see some reactions to the videos they've done for the singles.
ABSOLUTELY!!! 💯 There aren't even really the words to express everything about those songs taken together... Not that you could adequately find for a 20min video, anyways. The heartbreaking earnestness of the lyrics. Maynard's voice, as he expreses this story... The composition of the music. The building layers... Truly on a different level. Please have yourself a great day!! 🙂✌️
Thank you so much for doing this song! I’m one of the people who’s been requesting this. Now that that’s over, please do the Salival live version of pushit. Then you’ll realize what this band is all about. If it can’t be played live then it shouldn’t be recorded. Let’s try, “actually making it better”. You’re welcome 😎
It is fantastic and my favourite. It was featured in Captain America movie and when my son's friend heard the song begin in the theatre he literally threw his full popcorn and yelled TOOOOOOOooooool at the top of his voice. He loves this band that much, so I listened to it and I was hooked. They are the most epic band ever on earth.
Man I’m loving these videos. Definitely a subscriber. But I’m loving this journey. TOOL was introduced to me by a friend that I lost not too long ago. It has been and will always be my favorite band.
Love how you ended the video man. I'd suggest as many others Vicarious, but also as a suprise to me that I haven't seen much in the comments, Schism, perhaps one of my favourite Tool songs.
Im going thru it to brother good thing we got good music. We are always in are thoughts
Our lol
Aenima rips! My favorite album, it's loaded with meaning for me and is pure nostalgia.
I love it when you "nasty"... perfect word for tool songs!
I don’t know if “Freud’s best student” is a radical compliment or an Avengers-level burn.
I love how much you connect with the music and really allow yourself to slip into the journey. You're definitely going through Tool's top tier tracks, and they really don't have any bad or mediocre songs. SO much ahead of you too!
I love how he repeated a section of the song 3 times just because it spoke to him. I do that same exact thing!
Carried me for years. Love em.
Hey man, i know its been awhile since you did this video, but im just finding your channel-thanks so much for checking out this song, this song hit me deep as a kid and it made me want to get into making muisc and get out of some of the other dumb stuff i was doing that was leading me down a dark pathm..heard this song and i went and sold off most of my stash to a guy in my neighborhood and bought my first bass guitar knowing "yea, i want to do that"
That is a great story 😊 Very F--king cool.
Back in the day when a new tool cd came out you bought it..and then listened to it over and over because one sound will catch you and you miss other things..took a while! Haha. Maynards voice is like another instrument in the songs..awesome 😁💙
I absolutely love watching these. I love how people of different musical genres can kinda meet up here and enjoy learning new music.
I’m just here for that trippy thing in the back.
That Chord you are hearing is power of a Guitar tuned in Drop D. It's gives such a fat sound by giving you the ability to play a 3 string power chord. Loving going on this journey with you 🤘🤘
Love playing tool on guitar!
Tool does however have a clear cut best song that all Toolarmy will agree apon,,,, its the one thats playing!!!! Literally, so no matter how many you hear, it will always be the one thats playing!!!
Tool's music is so amazing I wish my ears were bigger...
Totally stealing this saying.....
I am loving watching your Tool journey 😘👍
I don't know if anybody has said it yet, but the children from "The O'keefe Foundation" slay this song! It's a must watch if your a rocker wanting to keep this Genre alive! 💪
I just seen it. Thanks for the heads up! 🤘@@GWOTKoolAid
When they tour again, go see them. I have seen them a handful of times and they put on an amazing show. In my option the best live show.
Awesome reaction! Would give anything to hear this song again for the first time! Thank you for sharing your Tool journey and I can’t wait to see you experience even more!
I’m doing that right now. Wowza! Very reminiscent of the Eastern influenced rock of the 60’s. Gorgeous.
It's hard to pick a favorite Tool song, but if I had a gun to my head, this would be it. Forty six & 2 just ahead of me. Spiral out 🤙
Every song on this album should be a number one
Tool and Pink my two favorites. To me they each have their own genre. No other bands can say that
2023 and still getting shivers from this masterpiece!!
Gotta hear "Eulogy" by Tool. Few have reacted, all have been blown away, same with "Jambi".
The drum track is a creamer for me, watching him play that was explosive. He looked he was having so much fun
BLINDING
The last question I had for my Daughter, was what was her favorite Tool song? She said 46&2!
She was gone two weeks later......
This is one song I can hear that she loved without tears...
She saw Tool 3 times and Perfect Circle once!!
I miss her every day....
Tool was her all time favorite Band.
Thank you brother.
I’m telling you man, this whole album is 🔥
Totally agree, one of the few I own on Vinyl!!
this is my favorite song on the greatest rock album ever created. no song takes me to the realm that this one does. it’s a pure utter masterpiece.
Absolutely a tremendous song. Take the time to read into the philosophy of the lyrics; you will not regret it.
The lyrics are about the Jungian Shadow, and essentially growing by delving into painful aspects of your psyche that are often suppressed.
Tool is the only band with a Lead Drummer and a rhythm singer 🤣
I can't believe how long they have been around. 🤔 Time surely does fly.
Such a beautiful song, so glad you like it ❣🧘♀️✌🏼🥰🌴
This has been my favorite song for 25 years.
Check out the O'Keeffe academy version, dem youngnz rock....
Let's goooooo! Ive been looking forward to these tool reactions from you
I have to hear Tool every day.
Fun, even.
I haven't watched yet - but this is one of their top tracks. I KNOW you are gonna be hitting that horn. You need to see them live :)
Seeing them live was an incredible experience
This is my fav tool song, bro ❤️ ya play that wicked part 3 times!! Ain’t mad at ya… love the stank face 😝
It was used in the first Captain America trailer.
REFLECTION!!!!!!give it a listen and know in your bones you will love this band forever.
Parabol/ Parabola together! These songs together are on another level for Tool! IMO one of their greatest songs.
ABSOLUTELY!!! 💯
There aren't even really the words to express everything about those songs taken together...
I feel like I’m just repeating myself at this point lol LOVE this 🖤🔥
Hi Carrie Happy New Year!
@@lindaaugone382 Happy new year Linda!!
Man I’m loving these videos. Definitely a subscriber. But I’m loving this journey. TOOL was introduced to me by a friend that I lost not too long ago. It has been and will always be my favorite band.
Gotta check out the O'Keefe Music Foundation kid's cover of this song!
Your continously moving sculpture in the background fits the mesmerizing rythms
Love how you ended the video man. I'd suggest as many others Vicarious, but also as a suprise to me that I haven't seen much in the comments, Schism, perhaps one of my favourite Tool songs. Love the Tool reactions, keep em comin' and don't worry about adding some flavour through ramblin and re-listening to parts, just shows how much you like the songs.
