  • UPDATE: Read our full multi tester review here:
    www.roadtrailrun.com/2020/05/...
    I take the Zoom Pegasus 37 ($120) out for a first approx.10 mile /16km run in Park City, UT and share first run impressions. The 37th edition of the Pegasus sees the most significant changes in years with a new React foam midsole and a front only 10mm thick Zoom Air bag, the prior edition having a full length 4mm thick Zoom Air unit.
    The articulated Zoom Air unit is tuned based on gender preferences with 20 psi for the men's and 15 psi for the women as testing showed women preferred a slightly softer, more flexible front cushion.
    Overall the Pegasus gains 2mm of stack height with its weight going from 8.9 oz / 252 g to 9.73 oz /276g for a men's US9 (confirmed by size 9 sample).
    Full multi tester review soon!
    Correction: Joan Benoit Samuelson wore a Peg at the 2008 Olympic Trials and not at the 1984 Trials.
    The tested sample was provided at no charge.

    Sam, in 1984 in both the trials marathon and L.A. Joanie wore a Nike racing shoe called the Axis. It was straight lasted and, I think, had an air bag in the heel. I think the exact pair she wore was a special make up for her, as it had a heel clip very similar to what the Current React Miler has. The retail version of the Axis didn't have the clip.

      Well the Pegasus 37 would be a fine choice for that as long as rocks aren't large. Upcoming Pegasus 37 Trail another. Saucony Xodus 10 while a fairly heavy shoe can handle literally any trail and is great on the road as well. It has a softer bouncier TPU midsole and a great outsole,

      No, the new Vomero leaked, it will have Zoom X and React.

    • @RoadTrailRun
      @RoadTrailRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Not sure on that. Vomero quite different with a thinner forefoot and more agile feel up front. Peg 37 clearly more protected up front with its giant air bag given a more measured but significant pop whereas the Vomero front is more toe off using the toes if you will. Peg 37 more balanced in weight front to back through so can handle slower paces a bit better but with less rear stability due to platform,

      Kind of similar and need to compare more. Similar at the heel in being a narrow platform. The Peg 37 has a more secure far easier to dial in upper and overall is more stable. Novablast has advantage of lighter weight. If you are light, tend to run faster paces consider NovaBlast but I think overall it is less versatile

  • @ThePierrezx

    I have these shoes. I am a runner in 36' on 10km, and I do not see myself running a 10 with, or even a semi: they are not made to go fast. On slow gaits (jogging, EF) up to gaits approaching 4'00 ~ 4'15 per kilo, nickel: good energy return, optimal comfort. But beyond these speeds, we feel constrained at the level of the stride, the sole seems to play more against us than with us, hence a feeling of too much energy expenditure. I wonder what the "Turbo" version of this Pegasus 37 is worth at this level suddenly ... Maybe it is more versatile and therefore quite simply a much better choice.

    • @RoadTrailRun
      @RoadTrailRun  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great pace! Agree! For uptempo type running but due to weight of shoe the Tempo Next while very different in ride, kind of mechanical is far superior to men's Peg 37. If your foot is small enough the Peg 37 women's in D width is a far superior and smoother running shoe than the men's for me. It has softer React and a lower pressure Air Zoom which makes a huge difference. And it is lighter with a superior easier on the foot upper. Add 1.5 US to your men's size to get women's. See reviews of all of the above at the link below under Nike.

    Hi Sam, I haven't gotten any other version of regular pegs before because I've always found them stiff. But I'm definitely buying these ones, would you recommend me to go up 1/2 size? The only reference on sizing that I own are the 35's turbo on size 9 (my regular size) and they are pretty snug for me, I can run in them any distance with no problem but if I use them for casual they tend to feel kind of oppressive after a while.

    • @RoadTrailRun
      @RoadTrailRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been a while since I ran Turbo but fit is similar here, maybe a touch roomier but a denser mesh upper. It is a fine running shoe upper but maybe not a great casual one. Half size up will not give you more volume but more front toe room as the profile is quite pointy You could also consider the wide version

  • @mpellenberger
    @mpellenberger 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hadn’t heard about the different air pocket pressures anywhere. Interesting - could even mean you could “fine tune” your shoe by purchasing a women’s model instead (and vice versa) if you wanted a softer or more dampened ride.

    I’ve heard that the heel is 35mm it was from a none reliable source. The photo did in fact have a measuring tool next to it. So not sure on this one. I was very skeptical as 35mm is very very high. I would assume the asics nimbus light is better. Better ankle fit, a wider toe box a lighter shoe and a more stable ride. With the air bag does it give a snappy toe off a would compare it more to a zoom fly 4 initially. Would love to here you’re though on the peg 37 be leaning towards a more workout/faster tempo shoe? But at 10 oz it’s a bit on the heavier side

    • @RoadTrailRun
      @RoadTrailRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nike has 31.5 /21.5 including sock liner. Nimbus Lite is roomier more flexible, less stable up front and is not as versatile as well found the flexibility got foot tiring. The more direct compare in ASICS is Cumulus 22 which has a thinner less responsive (GEL vs the giant Zoom Air) forefoot,

    Pegasus 37 has very similar characteristics to the Vomero 14: weight, the use of react + air pocket (I know it's not a full length air pocket but still the same technology), well cushioned. My question is: does the ride feel somehow similar to the Vomero 14? Because the Vomero 14 was a cushioned and responsive (I mean, not super responsive but react is a responsive foam) shoe and Pegasus 37 appears to lean to that side. Are we in front of 2 totally different shoes despite the similarities? (Note: I'm talking about the midsole here)

    • @RoadTrailRun
      @RoadTrailRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Despite surface similarities quite different. Vomero more stable at the heel more agile thinner feeling forefoot while Peg 37 super thick air bag makes forefoot more cushioned in feel. More contrast between front and back ride feel. Vomero I think works best run fast as it has that snappy forefoot but is also a touch more back weighted. Hope this helps. Need to run Peg more

The airbag gives a snappy toe off yet cushioned landing. The turbos2 would be more of a long run shoe for me or just when I’m on my feet for a long time. The Pegasus will be more supportive but also has a lot going on. The grip on the Pegasus 37 seems better for off roads/light trials

      Feels like I'm about to walk out the shoe. I don't tie my shoes strings very tight. I can only imagine how it feels running. I ordered another pair in a smaller size

    Compare with 1080V10

      I prefer the fit here if narrower. No stretch knit over the toes which bothers me. The 1080 is a more rocker type ride with about equal cushion but less front response as no air bag. 1080 is a bit more stable wider at the rear but its achilles hold not quite as solid.

    Hard to imagine how you could not have liked the Peg 36. I look forward to trying the 37 too but just goes to show that people have to try shoes for themselves an take these types of reviews with a grain of salt.

      35 and 36 dated rides, ill fitting for me. Coasting along.. Long over due for a major true to Peg overhaul. I ran in close to 100 different shoes of all types in the last year...of course we all have different needs and preferences

      3/4 plus pavement 1/4 dirt. Peg is actually excellent on this kind of trail due to its outsole
