Man Gary Owen's I arrived at church today at 8:45am and it is 1:24pm and I am still here, help me and come get me out of here! LOL
That's hilarious. I was the music director for a very large church here in NY. (Over 3,000 members) We had 3 services on Sundays. I arrived at 6am when the sun was just rising and left at about 3pm. Right before the sun was about to set. Sometimes later, so I feel your pain. Lol.

I have my own theory as to why Black church services take so long, and keep in mind that it's only a theory. Historically, Blacks who were under the cruel yoke of slavery were not allowed to go to church or even publicly worship under threat of flogging or worse. It can be argued, then, that long services in Black churches today might be a way to make up for lost time.
To be clear, I have absolutely, positively nothing against Black people or how they choose to worship (I myself am closer to Elmer's Glue in terms of skin tone), though in line with the points Gary makes, it's probably unwise to make a Sunday brunch reservation for the same day one goes to a Black church service.
