Glad I found your channel with these (I subscribed!), and it's interesting to hear your thoughts! I think you've got a good format and your scripting is really good, though I do think you should spend more time on reactions and views on the series's themes, and less reviewing the plot of the series: You DO do the former a bunch already, but I think there's a little too much of the latter, too... Secondly, I wanted to throw out a manga suggestion: if you like the silly comedy in Dragon Ball, and are a fan of One Piece, and also do get a little annoyed when shonen sideline their extended cast (to your point about DBZ), I gotta suggest Konijki No Gash, also known as Gash Bell or Zatch Bell: It's a relatively obscure Shonen manga, since it wasn't published in Weekly Shonen Jump like most genre titans are, and it's anime adaptation had major issues, but the manga is incredible. The premise of the series is 100 demon kids get sent to the human world with books, are paired up with human partners who can read from those books so the demons can use spells, but if a book is burnt, the demon gets sent back, and the last one standing is crowned king. That sounds like an intense and nonstop combat heavy premise, but the demon kids are, well, KIDS: Most are not your typical 12-14 year old shonen protagonist, but 6-8 year old children', and there's a big emphasis on character growth and development and relationships since the premise inherently pairs characters up: The protagonist Gash is a naive, hyperactive 6 year old (If you loved Kid Goku, you'll love Gash), and his partner is Kiyomaro, a jaded genius teenager: Gash teaches Kiyo to open up and value other people, but Kiyo grounds Gash and forces him to mature and consider what it really means to be king. There's tons of amazing dynamics like this. Again, like Dragon Ball and One Piece, it's got a lot of absurdist comedy, and another thing it does exceptionally well like One Piece is the contrast between lighter and darker moments making both hit harder. The focus on comedy, there being a lot of chill slice of life chapters, and it's commitment to friendship as not just a genre convention but a core theme means the manga is often heartwarming or pretty goofy, but that just makes it all the more heart wrenching when it gets dark, and it does so intensely (entire planets don't blow up like Dragon Ball, but stuff is so much more personal and emotional), and without pulling punches (the series commits to the premise requiring EVERY character eventually getting their book burnt, and you never know when they'll be gone). On the flip side, those dark moments make the comedy, slice of life moments, etc feel genuine and earned rather then corny or distractions. There's so many other things it does well: The fights are tactical and strategic, which makes them interesting and fun even if you're not huge on action; it's a rare example of a shonen manga that doesn't sideline it's extended cast (and it's got a lot of well utilized female characters), who stay active and useful till the very end of the series, the pacing and other elements only get better the further in you get (though it admittedly does take a while to shift away from villain-of-the-week stuff the start to longer narrative arcs), etc, but if I don't stop now I'll go on for another 6 paragraphs. If you're interested in reading it, Mangadex is the best place to do so (It;s sadly no longer officially licensed in english, but Mangadex includes all the side content many sites exclude, plus has brand new fan translations made by Zatch Bell Makai)
Thank you for the feedback! I agree the dragon ball videos (and the one piece ones) are very summary heavy, I continued with that throughout because that style worked well for a lot of people, but I'm not the biggest fan of it. Almost every other video on the channel about an anime is exactly like you described lol That manga sounds super promising, I'll add it to my list!
Something neat with Goku vs Vegeta is that while Goku prefers to stay on the ground to his Martial Arts roots throughout the fight, Vegeta is constantly flying and being over Goku representing his view as seeing himself superior to all others. It also show Goku being a low class standing up to the Elite Vegeta. The fight ends with both on equal ground battered showing Goku along with his friend were able to bring the elite down to their level.
I'm happy I found your channel. You're genuinely funny and have exactly the kind of personality that gets the humor and heart that have made DB so timelessly charming even beyond the fighting, so these review videos are really fun and relaxing to watch. Looking forward to the next ones.
I first found you from your Frieren video. It was the first frieren discussion video I watched because I had just finished it and didn't want to watch something I wouldn't vibe with because I loved it so much. I then stumbled across your clannad videos, and it seems like you and I share the same love for that anime/VN (It's been an anime staple for me for 13 years). And now I find this video. You've definitely earned a sub.
@@Totaraum Yeah I can get behind that, my favorite is Buu despite it probably being the most poorly written because I'm a sucker for Videl, fusions, ssj3 and Vegeta.
Hello, sorry couldn't find time to watch this vid. Im a Clannad fan thanks to the beautiful Kyoani adaptation, and about 1 year ago, I played the visual novel and it was a really wonderful experience. After this I discovered your channel that praise Clannad, very nice. And today, im seeing that you also understand how beatiful and deep is the world and characters of dragon ball made by Toryama. It make me really happy because people these day like to shout Dragon ball i overrated and just fighting for idot... These people didn't read or watched dragon ball or dragon ball Z. Nice vid, looking forward for nexts ! 👍
"In the real world, a drive to fight like this would be farmed for cheap and embarassing Twitter content, but here, it gives Earth its best shot at stopping total annihilation." That has to be the best description of the Saiyan lust for battle out there. Sweet work as usual, can't wait for you to eventually talk about the Cell saga (aka the best DBZ arc). RIP Toriyama
The thumbnail is wrong Goku only died twice once when Piccolo used the Makankosappo on him and Raditz and the other time was when he teleported Imperfect Cell (that's what 2nd form Cell is called the 1st form is just called Cell) to King Kai's planet during the Cell Games
Can we all just stop a moment to think that piccolo developed the makankosappo to kill goku and actually killed goku with it, while kaiohsama invented the genki dama and of all the times goku used it, it only worked the last time? If I were goku i would totally steal at least one or two techniques from piccolo
How did only Goku get the virus though? Even without the antidote, an entire room of people in a small room didn't catch it? It doesn't happen in the 7 year time skip or the 10 year time skip after? That's the one thing I never quite understood. It makes me think Goku specifically developed it due to overuse of Kaioken or something like that. It's almost like Bulma made the antidote herself because it's a virus that only he developed.
Alright, off to study then! (I will binge read Dragon Ball). Btw, great work as always and rest in peace to Toriyama-sensei who managed to reach the hearts of so many.
The time line between the original DragonBall and DragonBall z was so perfect i like the saiyan saga, Akira toriyama will forever be a legend
"dragonball z" is the original dragonball.
@@grunntalllI mean yeah in the manga it’s just called dragonball but in the anime the original dragonball and dragonball Z were split into 2 shows
How does this only have 800 views???
"There definitely won't be another video in like a month and a half to 2 months" and he meant that
Don't think I didnt notice the Persona 3 music in the background
13:11 why is that so accurate lol
It was the first thing that came to my mind lol

The Saiyan Arc was the peak to be honest, Freeza Saga is a little too long and it drags.
I've always preferred the other z arcs but the Saiyan saga is honestly the best shounen start of time skip arc i can think of.
I really love the other three but this one just feels the most well thought out. My favorite though is probably the cell saga

Yeah good video and all of that but where's the other saga's video?
