10:40 - THANK YOU. The homogenization of Google's app icons was a huge step backwards. It always takes me a few extra seconds to find the right app if more than 2 of them are grouped together in the same folder.
The only thing that saves me is muscle memory, if I had to find it on someone else's phone, I'd be completely out of luck

Google entire UI is a mess, I dont know who or why they did it so confusing
For the wireless charging speed issue, there's a setting under "Wireless charging settings -> Quiet charging" in the OnePlus 12 which is on by default and has a description of "This wireless charger runs at a lower power level to minimize noise." So that's likely why it wasn't doing the full 50W charging speed.
some manufacturers also have some "battery long life" settings which restrict fast charging
Makes total sense but That's a shame they haven't add a notification about that when you put your phone on a charging pad
Most people don't really care about the speed of the wireless charging, so I think that is why it's on by default and for the advanced users, they will find it in settings on their own

Nice thing that many people forget to mention is that the european vesion has 100W charging.
Actually, if you puchase the SuperVOOC 100W Dual Ports Power Adapter that they have for the promo price of $30 USD when you purchase a OP12, the handset is capable of 100 watts corded charging. The charger in the box is capped at 80 watts wired charging. So, the U.S. version of the OP12 is capable, you just have to buy the upgraded charger (which I happily did).

It's not really noticeable either way. It's insanely fast regardless compared to what we are used to over here in the US.
Even so, 80 watts is more than any other company provides. The fact that even samsung doesn't come with a charger is still bull...
The US version is capable of 100 Watt, it just only comes with the 80 watt charger. I purchased the 100w charger separately from OP and it also comes with the longer charging cable.

I'm a Pixel boy now a days, but back in the day I had a OnePlus 5 or 6 (can't remember which one. I'm leaning towards 5) and I loved it. It was rock solid for so long. Not that they ever left the phone conversation, but I'm glad to see them getting talked about more again, and these phones, although not perfect, do seem to be a return to form based on my experience with them

There's a lot of extras on this phone that others just don't provide. IR blaster, aqua touch, the battery charge speeds and including a brick. Just a few of the reasons I bought the OnePlus 12 and not the S24 Ultra

I recently got the OnePlus 12 with 16GB ram and 512GB storage option, and love it. Great AMOLED adjustable refresh rate screen, great camera, lite OS and fun to game on. I have had it for two weeks now and only have charged it twice so far. There is still so much I am discovering about this phone as I use it, but it's the best phone I have had to date. I am coming from a TCL phone so this is a big upgrade for me. Glad to see this unboxing. I have been waiting for your in-depth review/unboxing of this phone.
There is no way it lasts 1 week on one charge
@@krisskuli well the phone comes charget out of the box (although not to 100%), also he might be a very light user who only uses his phone for 3h/day total and that can last you for 3 full days on the 12. I am also assuming me may have said 2 weeks but being really 10-12 days

@@jezuconz7299 100% Right! Was charged up to 98% when I got the phone. Also I am a very light user when It comes to phones. Mainly text and some web browsing. I do pretty much everything on my desktop i.e. TH-cam, Gaming etc... Plus I only had it for 13 days when I posted my comment. I still love the phone and it works great and still my charging is at minimum.

9:40 Wireless charging goes from AC to DC to high frequency AC. This HF AC over the coil causes a changing magnetic field which is picked up by the receiver coil. The receiver generates HF AC which gets rectified to the charging voltage.
So, how much loss occurs with 50W wireless charging?
@defeqel6537 It really depends. That's why I was disappointed that he didn't mention what the loss would be. There are losses simply from the allignment of the phone to the charger, losses in the different switching steps, and also the kind of circuit used to create the HF AC. A class D or E amplifier has an efficiency of 90%. So there you lose some power already. I would be surprised if the efficiency of any wireless charger would be higher than 80%.
@@OussamaAbuUmar wireless charging at efficiencies in the 90+% efficiency is already done for some car systems (witricity claims 93%) and with correct magnetic coupling you can realistically operate at 90+ on small scale devices already
@RomainCavallini I am not familiar with the ones you mentioned, but these are often models that are not realistic for everyday use. The same with the amplifiers used in the systems. A class-e and class-d amplifier are capable of having an efficiency of 100% and this can be reproduced in tests, but in practice this will never be the case. Same as the advertised milage of electric cars. The manufacturer was able to achieve the range, but in the real world, there is at least a difference of 10% or more.
Got OnePlus 12 yesterday as an upgrade from Huawei P30, its outstanding, smooth, camera is perfect, battery will last forever. Really love it. One bug which I encounter is 2 sim card activation, need to play a little bit with settings to get it working. No fog on camera but it's not cold outside so hard to test.
Is there a reason you choose the OnePlus 12 over the Honor Magic 6 pro? I've heard the Honor is a good choice for old Huawei users
Wanted something new to test, didn't consider checking Honor, also Oneplus has the cleanest UI, no additional apps and price was quite good.

I wanted to say about the backpacks that only had the 1 layer bottom, if you do in fact have people send them back to you and replace theirs, you could sell them used at a discount. Because I would snag one if it was "gently" used. I wouldn't want one like the mine worker one lol. It could help you recoup money on them.
I don’t understand only testing a phones battery life at 480p 200nits when it has a much higher resolution and claimed brightness, it’s fine to include these settings to show how far you can push it but the main test should be using the phone they way that people will actually use it.
Regardless of which of the two to pick, it is VERY nice to see OnePlus back in the market that makes sense for them. Really spicy competitoon at the sub $600 bracket now.
Ultra wide is useful if you want to scan documents, with ultra wide you can get closer and you will not have sides blurred like the main
In terms of charging, as someone mentioned there's the quiet mode charging, it is generally on that at the start. I have the Find X3 Pro and it has the same charger. There's also a way to "add" more ram to the device in the settings, it may be slightly slower spec ram but it uses designated storage space for an extra 8-12Gb of Ram

When I first had the note 8, I went swimming with it. The pen works literally under water perfectly, so I would just use that if the phone was wet
I dont think droplets on your screen causes the same issue as having the phone submerged. The droplets are individually touching the screen. Also a stylus is obviously easier for a touch screen to register than fingers especially under adverse conditions.
still haven't seen a review that shows off the ir blaster, i wanna know if I could control TVs like I could with my galaxy s5 back in the day. changing channels and turning up the volume in any restaurant was the coolest thing 13 year old me ever did
The screen on this is the best portable screen I've ever seen. It's so bright in hdr and the color depth is amazing.
I'm still rocking a OnePlus 6, so I've been giving serious consideration to one of these. Maybe when there's a sale on.

I got the one plus 12, upgraded from OnePlus 7 pro and honestly apart from a few UI annoyances (mostly because it's changed from my old OP7 pro) I am super happy with the phone. Fyi just tried the zoom to take a pic of the moon and it looks amazing. So I would 100% recommend, the main thing I miss is the pop up front camera.
Still rocking OP7TP, I don't want to lose my pop up camera 😂. This poor battery is shot though

Still love my 7 Pro and the pop-up camera (or rather the lack of a camera hole in the display), but when my battery died for the fourth time in one day yesterday I ordered the 12 😅 I'm not sure about the look with the huge camera array and the centered front camera, but I still preferred it to the Pixel 8 Pro (and the S24 Ultra, but I don't like the Samsung UI anyway) 🤷
Now if only somebody was good friends with the people at dbrand and could ask them nicely to make a grip case for the thing... 🤔😊
@@CatharinaGoedecke honestly all the same issues I had when I was getting the phone aswell, especially the big cameras at the back but now I don't even think about them. I do really like this phone alot more, with UI quirks I just learn to work around them when I find them.
Aqua touch is actually pretty sick considering the amount of times I try to use my phone while doing dishes

I would really like to try oneplus again. I now using one plus 8 plus, and only thing that I hate, but hate a lot - is that it sometimes randomly goes into silent mode (with slider still on ring mode), and it happens with shaking, but only what you would expect phone to be able to handle - like running with phone in your pocket, or crossing rail with phone in magnetic holder.

I felt every bit of Linus' vibe about Googles garbage icons. One of the richest companies in the world and their management team, or teams are still too stupid to listen when their UX/UI team says "Making all of the icons look the same is bad". Pure incompetence.
Never Settle and "flagship killer" are absolutely stupid slogans when you charge $900 for the phone. They really lost the plot, because they used to do what Poco X series does currently.

When testing battery why do you never do an actual useable resolution. It would be more useful if it was at least 720p or 1080p.

Bought 12r as my office phone. Cmera isn't bad outdoors. Getting 2day battery life. Screen gets very bright when compared to my Pixel 7. I'd say 12R is the best buy if you already have a very good phone and just want a second phone to handle your daily works.
The 5G speed is 300Mbps more than what I get with Pixel 7 in the same area in the same network.
Although it isn't the same Oxygen OS I loved in my OP7 Pro, it's still buttery smooth and we'll optimised. Except that the launcher is too basic to do anything.
Rest all it's a solid all rounder.
i'd like to know how they do genshin impact performance tests because while in the overworld or just not doing anything, the framerate is still 60 fps on my old oneplus 8 pro, but in actual combat, with different skills and reactions, i've gone from 60fps to below 20. And that difference is in the abyss where the map is not loaded, rather it's a very very like very small area. Also loading times for mobs in abyss matter a lot. I say this because i've had real issues on my friend's device, oneplus nord 2, where mobs took like 10-15s to load in that cuts in the time u need to clear abyss, while it's around 5s on my oneplus 8 pro.
I ask this because it is one of the only 2 games i play on a regular basis on my phone as i don't have enough time to game on my pc due to work.
Would love to see the temperature before and after wireless fast charge.

Ive been using a ulephone armor 22 for about a year now and its been a perfect experience. The cameras aren't amazing but they work well enough for me and the ir nightvision is incredibly handy for me. Personally I would loved to see some of these niche androids reviewed since it was only $340 american for an incredibly tough, super well preforming phone. As a network engineer its not only a personal communication device but in a pinch can be a useful tool.
Yeah 50W wireless charging is awesome, been using that for my vivo phone in the past couple of months! :D Takes about 40-50 minutes to fully charge a 5000mAh from below 10%.
Also you can check the charging speed through apps which are pretty accurate.
You get UFS 4.0 in the 12R if you get the 256gb storage. Samsung (storage manufacturer) doesn't make a 128gb chip.
Does 80W Super VOOC work with USB PD devices? Would be nice to replace laptop chargers if so

I have a Oneplus 10 Im very happy with. Charge speed using wire is insanely fast. Good price and amazing hardware. Its the same snapdragon as a top samsung, and samshit only sell Exynos here anyway.

I don't see an issue witht the google icons since once the app is placed in the folder it's always in the same spot. So the icon itself shouldn't matter if you just memorize the location.
While technically a good thing to include a charger in the box, isn't this more due to them using a proprietary system and thus all your existing chargers won't deliver anywhere near the same level of power even if they might support a higher pd wattage.
Please if possible try to test the phone performance in frames per watt. Since power drawn is especially important in mobile
Just replaced my Note 9 with a 1+12, pretty much loving it so far. Just wish the Photos app wasn't just basically Google Photos with a couple extras on it. I just want my local stuff in the native gallery app like every other phone I've had, and Google Photos for going thru older stuff in cloud storage.
Superchargers don't always seems to charge the phone in peak watt. Maybe to keep the charger or the phone cool while charging?
I've been super satisfied with the 1+ 12 especially since I was able to get a discount on the purchase. My one gripe is the SoC is not as optimized as some older chips for mobile games so I've seen Pokemon Go (and no other apps, although I've seen reports of others) crashing from time to time. It's not often enough to be unplayable but it can be annoying. The Samsung S24 ultra also suffers from this so hopefully this improves as time goes on.
Yes pokemon go was crashing super hard. I lost most of the PvPs and raid pokemon because the game crashed.

The budget option seems to be the best one for me. 12R, 128GB.
I just want it to do basic phone things, be reliable, and have good battery life. I might start looking at different options soon.
I checked my current phone that I've had for 4 years and It's at 71GB used so 128 seems fine.
I'm still rocking my original OnePlus 7 Pro. Though that 12 looks mighty tempting, I just can't get over having the little camera bump on the screen. If they had a model without the selfie camera, I think it'd be a match made in heaven.

Hey Linus, I used the 5,6,7,9R,10R and is currently using a Nord 2 all from Oneplus review you did of the OP5, its weird that you would experience the slow wireless charging as the superfast charging is disabled by default in the software and needs to be activated manually after a disclaimer battery life warning.
I say this as my Mom used the 8 Pro with wireless charging and its fast wireless charging was disabled the same way.
PS: i buy phones every year as my company allows for a separate device for work so i usually buy oneplus as they become free after a exchange of old device

I would love to give Oneplus another shot but the Oneplus 11 just had too many issues regarding refresh rate on non-standard apps. A fixed 60HZ on apps like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc. is just simply not okay. I heard these issues are returning this year so I'll stick to my S24U for a year.
Bought the 12. Love it so far. Real life photos are better than the Pixel 6 Pro I came from. Battery life has been solid and the fast charging is awesome. And man I can't tell you how much I missed that alert slider!

I like that phone manufacturers are starting to work on features that people can actually use, like using your water resistant phone while it is wet, why does it matter that i can have it out in the rain, when i can't use it?

The phone has a wise charging setting in which it will slow charge till a time based on your usage ( ex 6am if you plugged it in at night) which you can turn off any time.

I was just thinking that my 5T is finally starting to feel a bit dated. The 12R looks like exactly what I'd want, and compromises in areas I've never cared about (wireless charging and super high spec cameras).
God this is such a hard choice for me. I rarley use my camera but when i do i HATE taking bad quality photos. My s20fe takes amazing photos when there is tons of sunlight but if its in a dim house the quality is garbage. The only other thing im worried about is software support and software in general. Googles software has made me want to switch to their phone

The first I always do when getting a new phone (like every 7 years) is to turn off any form of fast charging as it doesn't benefit me as I always charge my phone overnight and have it hooked up while at home most of the time. I get why someone would want really fast charging but my S22 can charge from 40% to 85% in less than an hour so I really don't need more
I love my OnePlus 12 - bought on pre-order. Amazing battery life and speed and smoothness of programs. Great bang for the buck! Love the latest version of Oxygen OS too.

That's definitely appreciated. They were criticized for having corrections as a fine print on the video or comments. Every other TH-camr still keeps their mistakes like this but LTT made an actual edit. Mad respect.
