OnePlus 12 Six Months Later - Still the Best Value?

  • I used the OnePlus 12 exclusively since it launched, and I have a lot of feelings about it, especially now that it's had some updates. It's always been a great value, but is it still the best-valued Android in Summer 2024?
    Items from this video I absolutely vouch for:

    Also if OnePlus is listening, I need a filter that removes armpit sweat from my selfie videos ASAP. This is very important to me, and I expect it in the next update.

      whats the major glitch you noticed? wifi 5g data and BT issues?also are there any security issues using chinese phone with banking?

    • @Wildman-Tech
      @Wildman-Tech  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      @@user-li6ns2lk3z No major issues that I've noticed. That wifi indicator just overexaggerates how good your wifi is. As far as security goes, the Chinese government is set up to gain access to Chinese companies' data in 'the interest of national security'. It's set up virtually identically to the Patriot Act in the U.S. However, this data access legally extends only to the data that a given company houses on Chinese servers. Not only does this implicate countless American companies (which utilize Chinese server farms), but it also limits the extent of that data. OnePlus (not Google through Android, nor any of my non-Chinese apps) has access to relatively little data.
      Also, like I said....I'm poor as hell, so even if a foreign government could access my banking details, why the hell would they, and what would it get them? Nothing ;)

    You’re the first reviewer I’ve seen say what I’ve been thinking. If Google was smart, they’d buy the OnePlus design, put their name & OS with features on it, and sell it as a Pixel.

    its not the best value phone. it's the best flagship of 2024. having galaxy s24 ultra and iphone 15 max i can safely say oneplus is finally back again. the last great oneplus phone was 7 pro.

    • @dr.fitprofessor4363
      @dr.fitprofessor4363 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      The 7-pro was a great phone. Even if it did rely heavily on a few gimmicky features like the pop-up camera as selling points. Still, minus the 10T the 8, 9 and 10 series we're strong devices. Unfortunately, they weren't a great value for the prices they were asking. However, last year's 11 and this year's 12 have really proven to be strong offerings for the money. Personally, I love my 11 and 12.

      Well, the one thing I don't like about OnePlus is the curved glass and less software support.

    • @dr.fitprofessor4363
      @dr.fitprofessor4363 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +15

      @@xiondFirst curved glass has a far more premium look than a flat screen. In addition, it is also more ergonomic and easier to hold.
      As far as software support is concerned, 4 years of OS updates with 5 years of security patches is perfect. The 7 years of support that Google and Samsung offers is nothing more than a marketing gimmick. Very few people will keep a device for that length of time.

    Excellent video bro I too have had my op 12 since February 4th pre ordered mine and traded in my op 11 so I got the 16 gig variant for 420 bucks. It's the best all around phone imo. I do agree with the mic issues and completely agree the front camera needs to be 4k 60 at least other than that I love the phone so much. The smoothness of the os is unmatched imo. I love the camera modules They are beautiful imo looks super nice. Photo quality is sooo damn good with master mode, overall pointing and shooting is excellent 95 percent of time do wish zooming telephoto was better. I'm spoiled by super vooc charging I've had op phones since the 9 pro 4 years in a row. And I can't tell you how many times my phone would be low randomly and the charging always comes in clutch.

      S23U is still a great phone, and probably somewhat close to being as affordable as the OP12 now. I think I'd still go for the OP12 for myself, as the SD8 Gen3 is an outstanding processor, and the battery is excellent, but they're so close that I'd suggest looking at reviews of OxygenOS vs One UI. The two phones should perform roughly the same for at least a couple years still.

    Nice Review. You hit on the same issue i had with my Oneplus, which is the 5G signal being lower than it shows, but I learned that it is a carrier's side of issues. I am a Oneplus 10pro owner, and owned two previous versions.. I can say that Oneplus' hallmark is value, battery life and charge speed. I think there is only HONOR could beat that. My only gripe is that the color of photo taking is never true to the real objects. When I used the pro mode to adjust the color temperature to what i thought was closer to real-life color, but when i sent the file out to others, the others would tell me that the images were artificially filtered, which led to two guess the color accuracy coming out of the phone. I am a designer, and color accuracy is important for me to communicate precisely with clients and trades. Unfortunately, this problem has never been resolved with Hasselblad. I saw galaxy and iphone could show the color that is true to real life with their screen in previous versions. I wonder if anyone has this issue too, and if 12 has it resolved as i may be in the market to shop for new phone again. Any advice to resolve this color issue would get me return to Oneplus again. THX

    before owning 1+12, i used to carry 2 phone (my primary S22 Ultra and a backup phone - Huawei P50 Pro) both can only do 4~5hrs SoT. after i got 1+12 i no longer bring 2 phones. its an all rounder phone it takes good photos than my previous, doesn't heat much when gaming, also screen time on 1+12 can give me an average of 8hrs everyday.

    I had S24 U for a month, but returned it yesterday. Just ordered Oneplus 12, I hope the minor things that made me return won't be present in the new one. For exemple, raise to wake was the main reason (worked 50/50, and I'm a not a fan of AOD), other was the speaker present on the left side of the phone, very easy to block with little finger. Camera shots, sometimes were too oversharpen. With a protection case, was hard to maneuver. Comming from Xiaomi 9T Pro, the OneUI was a bit too diferent for my tastes. Hope for the best with the OnePlus 12, and great video by the way, also love your shirt !

      In my experience the OnePlus 12 is not very friendly towards 3rd party launchers like Nova, that is - if you are using the gesture navigation.
      I have tried Nova, Lawnchair and Niagra and all of them have a very noticeable delay when using the 'home' gesture. That is the main reason why I still use the stock launcher.
      But if this weird delay issue ever gets patches out, I'm going back to Nova.

    Hello, very good review. Thank you. I have heard about scrolling issues after switching apps, especially in Chrome. In fact, I observed it myself at a store. After switching between apps and back to Chrome again, there's a noticeable freeze of 1-2 seconds. Have heard that it happens with other apps too. How was your experience with that?

      @@Wildman-Tech Thank you for your reply. This issue has been reported by so many users. This is the thing which holds me a little back from these phones. They provide great hardware, good value for money, but software is equally important too. When one is paying that amount for a phone, these little things can be bothersome. The real issue is that it hasn't been fixed yet. And who knows what new bugs might come with a new update?

    Excellent soft spoken yet informative detailed review. I'm one of the few people that prefer the curved screen on a large phone which makes it easier to hold and the display looks better. I have been long time user of Samsung Galaxy series phones and watches but Samsung is heading in the wrong direction trying to copy Apple. My next phone will be either OnePlus 12 or 13 and the OneWatch 2 or 3. OnePlus offers a lot of features both in the phone and watch with better battery life for a half the price.

    It's a real user experience and that's something we all need. It has high-end features for its price. I think if it is developed a little more, it may be a phone that will be preferred to the iPhone in the future. I think they should also work on the interface, many users do not like Android because there is too much customization and you need to use your mind while using the phone, they should develop a simpler interface for people who do not use their brains much or do not want to use them.
