Chain instead of C-clamp and pry bar instead of jack handle.
Not impressed by this video
Great video!
the control arm has a slot in the top (where you rested the clamp threads) thats for a pry bar to slot in
Lever down with arm or with your foot!
Good info, thanks.
@@MrNiceGuy94where to find pliers used to remove grommet from exhaust bracket?
@@brianhjohnson6000lol what this isn't the place to ask that
@@MostGenericUserits not like he asked at your wedding dude relax lmao. Theres never a good place to learn.. you just learn however or by whatever means are necessary
@@syniister7055 did I ask you?
Once a mechanic showed me the following trick: disengaged the steering wheel lock and the gave it a strong lateral hit with a hammer and off it went.
You could use a ratchet strap also
thankyou God Bless you
Ball joint sepator from harbor freight... $20
I use a large exhaust clamp.
Cool trick sn love the music too
Don’t do this, you’ll bend your c clamp every single time and won’t be able to re lolsen or properly tighten your c clamp again
Watch the video carefully. The ball joint is separated with the tool meant for it. The C clamp is only used to push down the control arm.
Can you link separator tool? thanks!@@MrNiceGuy94
BY the way does ball joint remain usable after such clamp use ?
@@MynameisEGISthe reason u replace it is because u don't wanna use it anymore isnt it??
@johnmonk3381 video is about replacing bearing? So ball joint is still very much usable?
Can you link tool used for separating ball joint from arm, Thanks!
This seems like a lot of effort if its ok to say so? I use a cold chisel and lump hammer and strike the arm down. I then use a pry bar to lever the arm down. Always wise to wrap a small rag around the ball joint and dust cover while working to protect the dust cover from being torn. Also some bottom arm ball joints need a chain and a 5ft pry bar. For instance from experience the Peugeot 206. Usually the force needed often pops the drive shaft from gearbox and so a container is needed to catch gear oil. I wish all lower control arm ball joints were this easy. Respect to you! ❤
was on youtube 3min n found this video THANKS MAN 🤘
You are welcome. Glad it helped 😉✋
I have that tool an it's my favorite it's saved me a lot of headaches
Thank you
How you get the rivets out?
I've always use my 3dollar u bolt for ball joint repair.🔧😁
Go on?
The point is that this is for professional use for technicians to get the job done as quick as possible. For you at home you just need the job done and if you can do it spending the least amount of money possible then great that works.
gracias
I wish I had seen this last week 😢
What car were you working on? 😋
They make a hook that a pry bar fits in, just for this. I think I've had mine for about 25 years, and have used the snot outta mine. Maybe do this in a bad spot, or if you are too cheap to buy the right tool...
Thank You
Mine was so stuck that it broke the first tool lmao, i had to take off the lower control arm because i didnt have the room to swing a hammer
Beware weak c clamp will bend the you have to bend or cut off
Here we have somebody who's not a mechanic making a video on how to be a mechanic 😂
With that first seperator tool i had to give it a better lip with the grinder so it stayed on the bolt since it was a tight fit
me too
Good job and nice trick
thanks buddy.
2 options Here..otc makes a hook that you put on the control so you can use a pry bar. Or my personal favorite..astro makes a specific tool 78914 is the part number.
I have both, that hook is useless, it always just flies off of the control arm. Not really safe.
@MrNiceGuy gotcha. I've never used the hook that you use a pry bar with. I bought it and threw it in my box. Then ended up buying the otc 78914 and I haven't had an issue with that.
My safety chain never falls off
That is good 4 the threads.
Nice!
Sir use some type or piece of wod betweel the the threads and the controlong arm to not to damage the threads
Good advice. Thank you 😉✋
Use a hook of a ratchet strap instead.
Clamp not needed at all
Always good to know
Not recommended, my clamp bended. Now I have a $26 useless clamp!!!
Same here. Might work on a newer vehile. Didnt work.
@@ryantoner4270 my CV Axle is already 15 years old, it almost broke on the inner joint and stayed extended, the extension cause the ball joint to be broken. Or it could be that the ball joint broke first which causes the CV Axle to be extended and failed to contract. The CV Axle is original but 15 years old and the Control Arm is made by an unknown company IRONTREE. So I have to replace both the Axle and control arm.
This video is a Fake. I know because I also destroyed my orange "C" clamp that's exactly like the one used on this video!
You see the slot that c clamp went over that is for a pry bar to just push down without bending your c clamp😅
@@wyelandlebeouf7202this is a very short high speed video, it made me think that only the C clamp is needed to remove the joint, but if you look closely, you also need to use the ball joint removal tool you can loan from auto stores. The C clamp is only for moving the disjointed parts.
Good
Tried the c clam and it got bend lol
That's brilliant ! What's disturbing is that I've always used a Ball Joint Splitter and always owned exactly those C Clamps and never thought of it, Jesus, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Thanks anyway.
I'm there right now dude have the same big ass c clamp and never thought having to do wheel bearing on the wife's car today😂
Just be careful so you don't damage the threads or bend the clamp! Not really the best idea.
If that ball joint came off that easy, you never really needed the c clamp. A ball joint stud that's actually seized would easily break the strongest C clamp before it even came close to popping off.
mate, the ball joint was separated with a tool, the c clamp was used to push the control arm down...
Yeah, it looks like you actually vent that control arm with the clamp. I'm assuming you were prying that off of Camera. I wouldn't do this process as it looks like you bend your control arm right where you have the clamp in there it's folded and creased.
There was nothing bent, the ball joint was separated with the tool, and the control arm was pushed down using the jack handle and C clamp. There is a full video of it on my channel.
Wish that would work on a full size silverado
That's because the lower ball joint is the load bearing joint. Support the lower arm on a jack stand, remove the brake caliper, pads, rotor, axle nut, break loose the outer tie rod and upper ball joint, then break loose the lower ball joint, the the spindle comes off. The lower ball joint in the video is a non-load bearing or follower, so it works. Most strut suspension cars are this way.
Pretty smart trick.
Thanks,mate. 😉✋
Don't work threads just bend
I just use a pry bar, done in 1 second
Nice
Great tip
Thanks buddy! 😉✋
or by the lower control arm tool from lisle. Right tools make a job 100 times easier..
I'd rather use a knuckle buster and a hammer
Well this video is helpful as to how to compress the stud with the removal tool ill give you that. But that slot you slide the c clamp over is specifically for a pry bar to push down and even at that a ball joint seperator is 10.00 bucks cheaper than the c clamp you are using incorrectly 🤷 and applies leverage directly😅 I see lots of folks crying about a bent c clamp. Remove the c clamp from the equation use the scissor tool to push the stud down then use the pry bar to push down in the very same slot he covers. Or just use the proper ball joint separator fork that costs nothing literally 10 bucks LESS THAN THE C CLAMP, LESS than the scissor style removal tool you are already recommending to people why not spend the 10 bucks and do it right? LET ME GUESS YOU ALREADY HAD A C CLAMP BUT NO 10 DOLLAR SEPARATOR FORK😅🤡🤷 Here we have someone playing mechanic who isn't one and even worse defending his improper process 😈☠️🤷
What happens when you f*×' up the threads or bend the clamp? 😂
Have one specially for this purpose. £2 for a clamp is not gonna break the bank I believe.
What size c-clamp did you use
I think it was 5 inch, but not 100% sure. However, use any that fits over the control arm.
How do I tighten the nut when the bolt just keeps spinning? Please help
Put pressure on ball joint. if it fits underneath like on vid and your working on ground place jack directly under joint and jack up should get enough pressure to hold in place whilst tighin nut.
@@barryowens252 thanks will try that
@vadski3469 hope it helps
also there should be some kind of insert in the bolt, like hex or torx so use the appropriate bit to hold against the spinning.
@@MrNiceGuy94 it's literally flat at the top of the joint the bolt isn't even visible
What year make and model is this
Volvo S60 2014
Your clamp will be brick
Hamor 🔨
You could just jack the rotor up a bit and slam the lower control arm down and hit the ball joint out
Or just tap it and it should pop 😂
Excellent
Thank you, mate! ;)
$12 at O’Reillys gets you a pickle fork and you’ll thank yourself
I am in the UK :D
working on a honda
❤🎉😮😊
Rookie
I wish i knew this long time ago.
It works. And IMO it's better than that S shaped hooks.
How to bend a clamp thread 🤦♂️
I see, I should have done a video about how to read as well ;)
Most irritating noise ever. Just stop
Dumbest waste of time I’ve ever seen. Be a grown up and push it down with your hands once the ball joint is free! If it’s really that stiff, just put a pry bar into the back of the control are and lever it down. No need for a C clamp at all smh
I Use A Length Of Chain .
Good idea too!
Not all ball joints are easy to pop out. 😅
the video is about how to improvise when you don't have the special tool to push down the control arm.
the ball joint was broken free with a separator tool.
Hammer it down boy
My c clamp bent
Fake this doesn't work! You will destroy your "C" clamp doing this this video is a Fake!
Buddy, read the captions. With the c clamp you just push down the control arm. The ball joint is broken free with a tool.
Thatsnot a trick any mechanic is doing that idea
Why
What.
Don’t buy that sh it it break and it get you stuck and then you need a saw to break it but a fork old school better
Worst hack ever
Stupid noises
Now my c clamp is stuck on this rusty POS because the threads are dicked
Can't help if you can't follow simple instructions...
you do that if your a wussy, use your muscles like a man
Genius thanks
It's all bull shit I don't use any ball joint separator and I been doing front end work since the 70s not only that I'll have it separated before you even find your cobble tools
I am happy for your success.
@@MrNiceGuy94 why don't you try making videos showing the right way to do something stead of cobbled up shit gonna get fingers pinched and broken tools instead of stupid videos for stupid people thinking you can get enough subscribers to get monetized. You're obviously a better cameraman than nechanic
@dennis carpenter this video is for people who may need some idea on how to get things done if they don't have the correct tools and have to improvise. I also have video with the correct tools and how to use them.
I can't please everybody, nor I want to and I am sorry if you didn't get any value out of this video, certainly it wasn't for you then.

@@MrNiceGuy94This tip is gonna major help me out
I am glad 😉
you call this a removal trick? It's a tool that most mechanics have, what's so special about it?
a trick is meant for the c-clamp and the jack handle if you don't have the correct tool for it and have to improvise.
Wrong way using G clamp.
Why?
@@MrNiceGuy94 G clamp are not design to hold horizontal load . It will bend the threaded rod.
@MOHAMMAD NOOR MAULUD ADNAN Ow,okay I see. You are right, and there is a special little tool for this technique, but if you don't have it, I think you can sacrifice one G clamp for this purpose. :P
@@MrNiceGuy94lol i just use big screwdriver and hollow 4inch steel(round one) and no need for any extra special tools. Different man solve issues differently maybe.
