    I was born 1946 and raised there. Met my wife of 30 years (we're divorced) in that Catholic church youth club behind at 4:56 in 1965. Richard & I used to trespass in the Old Oak sheds & yards it's leaving and on the GWR railway embankment behind for our train spotting 1959-62 but I missed that locomotive moving, don't remember it at all. I definitely spotted that locomotive for my Ian Allen book though.

    Many of my Mum's family worked at Boots Chemists in Nottingham. Whenever one of these came through town they had a spare front window standing by because sometimes it just didn't quite take the turn as planned :D

      In 1963 my bicycle racing club Actonia was climbing a highway hill in the Chilterns and got a loud lorry horn behind us and I swear it's true I shouted "Just pass. You driving a tank ?" and looked around and it was a Pickford's tractor with a trailer with a tank on it.

    Enjoyed that little trip back in time, well narrated,it was good to see the old trucks and cars of that era,and also see everyone get so excited at watching a Locomotive being transported from A to B. Everyday life was much more simple back then..not the complicated mess we live in now,thanks to failed Governments and greedy Capitalism..the one bit i failed to enjoy was the mention of that Mr. Nasty (Beeching)..but that aside,good video. thanks

    I’m confused. It says turning into horn lane from Western Ave. Surely it was the opposite?
    The next shot is turning off Western Ave into Old Oak Common lane.
    Does anyone else agree?

      @grindupBaker ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I don't think Horn Lane is involved at all, makes no sense. It's turning left from Victoria Road onto the Western Ave. at Gypsy Corner or possibly a few yards further down at Wales Farm Road. Before I moved to Canada 1973 I fantasized about being able to afford to buy one of those nice tiny houses on Wales Farm Road with the nice tiny garden bit in front.

    Nowadays, because of Health and Safety rules, they would have to do a risk assessment report before transporting it.

    • @derekhead5574
      @derekhead5574 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They assessed it and yes it was risky

    Such a waste putting a perfectly good steam loco in a museum and NEVER letting it run again!!!!

    • @vsvnrg3263
      @vsvnrg3263 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      there are engines of the same class still running, and such a special class of loco. were there to be only one of the class left, i give the example, i think it was the lion which starred in the movie the titfield thunderbolt, is not allowed out anymore. at least it became a movie star before confinement. i think retirement is close to appropriate. the yanks got one of their really old ones out and estimated it could tolerate about 30 psi and gave it a bit of a run on compressed air. i found footage on yt. we had one of the castle class in australia for a few years- pendennis castle. we should never have let go back to uk. a prize. we should have declared war or something as an excuse. be happy that within a days drive of where you live, one of them probably still runs.

      It is a shame but at least it didn’t go the same way as many steam locos of the time; left to rot and rust in scrapyards

    • @PreservationEnthusiast
      @PreservationEnthusiast 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bg0124 They were not left to rot and rust. They were sliced into small pieces of scrap with cutting torches and the debris sent for melting down in the induction furnaces.

      Owing to global warming the steam engines should not he allowed to burn coal and run, letting greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
