    I like your analysis however based on your choice of data focusing one source. TH-cam I believe that this might give false impressions on who is the BEST comedian.
    Suggestion:
    Try picking comments from three platforms:
    1. Facebook
    2. Twitter
    3. TikTok
    then map the likes to views and comments including their Polarities and Sentiment scores
    Average based on the platform
    Normalize according to the three platforms
    average the final scores for each Comedian
    then rank them based on a wider selection of platforms.
    Remember though youtube is popular, people spend more time on social media and have more engagements there.

    • @blackorwa
      @blackorwa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your detailed response. I chose TH-cam because it is the most popular platform and easiest to access data. How video are consumed across platforms also differ and it might not be appropriate to aggregate across platform.
      While TH-cam is only platform, it provides and indication on who is best. There are definitely more ways to measure "best comedy", it might just take forever to get it done, normalized and aggregated.

    Anytime I click ANY youTube video or twitter post, I automatically LIKE it.
    1. To support the content creator in views, money
    2. As my appreciation towards the effort used to entertain and educate the world
    3. As reminder that I have watched it, just in case i bumped into same later
    4. Because the creator always requests that if I Watch, Subscribe, Like (though i never share nor turn on notification)

    "If you torture the data long enough, it will confess to anything"..
    1. Mammito is the Queen of comedy..Look at that
    1.She has the least amount of followers and the keast amount of videos analysed bar Eddie,
    2. She has the least amount of median views of bar MCA Tricky
    Yet she has the 2nd most like ratio....as compared to Mutua..
    If you corrected for the numbers, I don't think any comedian would be anywehere near her..
    And that shows how the likes Ratio is a very good proxy, and can be used as a surrogate marker of the funniest commedian..
    Very good analysis...Excellent.

    Insightful vid as always. I'm just glad the comedians have moved past the tribal tropes. If you look at top foreign comedians, especially stand up, they're really good at timing and delivery. Anywho, personally I don't find Njugush funny but more power to those that do.

    • @blackorwa
      @blackorwa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Timing and delivery is the craft of stand up comedians. I think I Juacali alluded to that in his criticism about Njugush. While Njugush might not be funny using stand up comedy stands, he has captured the attention of many Kenyans.

    Anecdotal. TH-cam likes comes more from smartphones and laptop devices compared to smart TV's and the majority of viewers watch on smart TVs.

    • @blackorwa
      @blackorwa  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good input. I am not sure if most views comes from smart TV, I think most are from laptops and mobile phones. Anyway, this is not a perfect metric, just a proxy to who is liked most.

  • @ThaiyaWaronja

    I have an issue with the "Like to view ratio" as a metric of engagement especially for such a topic as funny/comedy. I know it's a stretch but what about the amount of comments with laughing emojis? I have observed as an avid comedy consumer that most comments in a really funny video will have more laughing emojis, or words like "waaah, huyu ni chizi , ujinga tupu, am dying" etc i don't know if this is feasible to analyze such data points. The "like-to-view ratio" is such a weak criterion by youtube especially for humor-based content and also culture varies.
    Anyways those are my two cents.

    • @blackorwa
      @blackorwa  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your detailed response. Likes-to-views ratio is just one metric that can act as a proxy in the absence of a proper measure.
      While emoji in comments are great, there is no standardized way of capturing and measure - perhaps we just count laughter comments.
      The Kiswahili/sheng comments also presents a problem. How to parse them. NLP tools currently don't support Kiswahili.

      @@blackorwa Thanks for the response, this reminds me of a convo sometime back on how it's difficult to collect data in high context societies like Africa, our modern (western) tools of analysis don't take account of the nuances in our social interactions.

  • @bernardmomanyinyagaka1051

    Great analysis, but, the comment about "WITHOUT HIS WIFE, HE WILL BE LESS FUNNY" may not be entirely true? WHY?, you equated number of views + likes to how funny that content is, part of the content that the wife does is not for comedy but rather for information purposes e.g the interviews with her fellow women. So her propping up the views doesn't equate to her being funny , those views could be from a different audience who value the informative episodes that she does; so the comment on "WITHOUT HIS WIFE, HE WILL BE LESS FUNNY" could be true or false if you were to only do an analysis of his content that is geared towards comedy. {Again, comedy is a subset of entertainment, I think your analysis is purely based on entertainment }

    • @blackorwa
      @blackorwa  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are half way correct, Bernard. When the channel is exclusively for comedy skits then it would be easy to measure. Some videos are product placements, others are talks (Wakavinye), other are a mix of both.
