Hey guys! Today Marcus is behind the wheel of an 850+HP BMW M Coupé running on E85, one of the most polarizing vehicles ever made. Is it ugly? Is it beautiful? It's a little bit of both, honestly. With a custom Vortech supercharger setup under the hood feeding the 3.2L S54 engine from the BMW ///M division, this car gives the turbocharged E46 M3 we filmed a run for its money. Enjoy!

'02 S54 M Coupe owner here. Gary's an awesome dude. This car is known as one of the "greatest m coupes ever built" among the community. so glad you did a review of it.

'00 MCoupe owner here. On a mod scale of one to Ghary(11), mine is around a 6.5. Just getting caught up on superspeedersRob Sorted and Ghery's MCoupe would do very well in this and I would have liked to see Ghery show up in his fishing hat all nonchalant about a car that just absolutely dominates.

The short throw of the shifter at 4:18 is crazy. The shifter barely moved! Beautiful car and amazing video as usual.

10:54 - 11:16 - 100% agree. Same with people who buy expensive sports/super cars and drive them like once a month it's like why? I get it if you're investing into it to sell later but if you're planning on keeping the car just drive it. Life is too short to have something just sit in the garage when you should be enjoying it.

not sure why people don't like the z3 m coupe. it's a long nose hot hatch, how could you not like it? its unique asf(rwd long nose hatch)
I feel the same way, plus the hatch makes it easier to carry tires to the track.

130i at a fifth of the price , as much as I like the z3m coupe the prices have gone crazy in the last few years ,,, a sorted 130i will have to do ,. for now.
Awesome video , I've always loved those cars just because they were so rare. Used to see a couple years ok driving to work downtown Vancouver but it's been a good 7 or 8 years since I seen one in person. Hearing people call them clown shoes makes me like them even more.

Awesome build. I own a 2001 Z3M Coupe with the S54, i had an E46 M3 as well. Think of the Z3M Coupe as a lightweight M3. There were 25 E46 M3’s sold for every one Z3M Coupe. Its that rare. Only 678 cars here in the U.S. have the S54 engine. it’s a blast to drive and it’s doubled in value in the four years I’ve owned it. Buy one now before prices skyrocket. A low mileage stock example just sold for $92k on Bring A Trailer , but I agree drive it. I have 53k miles on mine.
I bought my new in 2001. A few tweeks really bring it to the next level. I.E.= Lower rear end ratio, Polyurethane rear subframe bushings, coil overs & uncork the exhaust

Great video guys, and great timing - lots of press on the m coupe this week with the big BAT sale.
Owned and bought a super low mileage Z3 M roadster for £6k when I was 21 sold it 6 years later for 20k and about 40k miles more on the clock definitely a huge appreciating classic, loved it in every way you'd never see another on the road and completely unique, would of kept it if I could, miss it. Did always prefer the coupe looks though

Still one of my favorite BMW, the BMW z3 M Coupé, congrats man. The time when BMW were building good cars. 1990's cars is killer, the guy should throw in a Lancia Delta HF turbo integralle in the garage too.

I think it’s cool that you review all kinds of cars, but have you ever thought about making like a 5 episode series, talking about what you think the best cars are, in your opinion, when it comes to tuning/modifications? Since all the cars you review have been tuned/modified. Maybe one episode you take 2 or 3 cars you love just driving, another episode you take your favorite 2 or 3 cars are for handling and braking, another episode 2 or 3 cars you think re the best bang for buck for tuning, etc...
It would be a fun series I think. You could do so much with it.

Great Video. Incredible car. Gotta drive them like they were meant to be driven! I just regretfully sold my 98 M Roadster and picked up a Cobb N54 335i sedan....had to make room for the kiddo’s. Should’ve bought a e90 M3 with as much money as I’ve dumped into this thing!

One of my favorite things is talking cars and mentioning I have a Coupe and most people nod knowingly. But most of those same people go "Wtf is that?" when they see mine in real life.
i love the mission statement of Garage 54! i have an E63 M6 that i'm scared to anyone change my oil because i do know these shops near me in Orlando mostly have No love for the customers vehicles...its all about $$$ for them.
Try to get a personal connection with a garagemanager! I had the same problems with my shop. Always got my car back with 20 extra miles on it.

I prefer this z3 over the z4m coupe. Has 6 speed swapped in suspension is built better and still has s54. More unique. The power is way more than enough for the car. Great video by the way!!!Seen the car and road in a few times. Nothing short of amazing arguably the best all around built car I've been in.

When those first came out I thought they were HIDEOUS! I suppose just like my taste buds matured when grew up, so did my taste in automobiles. The M Coupé, aka "shooting brake", is a phenomenal car! Unique styling, great handling, great brakes, lots of power, great gearbox, LSD differential, comfortable yet sporty interior, etc, etc. I would love to have one of these but the prices have gone up and will just keep going up from now on.

Love the z3m coupe, thats why I bought one, but they do look awsome in white, mine is stock s50 and thats quick, 850hp would be insane, love the attitude of the owner, if he was local he would have my business. Gary, keep it, they dont make em like this anymore. :)

Passed by one of these in black years ago in my AP2-very nice; I liked it better than the convertible for sure; but still found it a bit odd. This video has made me think twice for sure. Though, if I can be picky lol.. I'd much prefer the rear to slope more aggressively as it sweeps to the rear with a Ford Shelby Daytona-esk back-end. (Not a american car enthusiast, and still like the rear lights, but a less "clown-shoe" presence would be cool)

Will Bo you know what else is funny? How many people think that it shares parts with the e46 m3 (aside from the engine). Everyone thinks it’s got e46 based suspension etc. because of the time period it’s from and the engine from the e46

Ever since i sold my z3 my heart aches for another one. This time instead of building an m54 im starting with an S54 and swapping in the 6 speed m3 transmission into. Perfect daily.
I put 3.73:1 gears in the back of my S-54 M Coupe and really don't see any need for the 6-speed transmission.
Z3 M Coupe is a classic for sure. This car is so extensively modified it's not even close to a collectible Z3M Coupe. Its a unique amazing build, no question, and worth whatever someone who wants a uber-customised one-off is prepared to pay. But for someone looking for a collectible Z3 M Coupe it holds no appeal.

Beautiful and purposely executed build that takes this car to the edge of compromise. The compromise between a race car and a daily driven street car.
