@Let's Get This Over With You’re probably right. I suppose that what bothers me is that we are now at a time and place where we have the opportunity to be better, but instead we dig a hole in the ground and stick our heads in it. At least in the past, the opportunities were fewer. If I had to put a fine point to it, I think its the lost opportunities that are the most concerning to me.

As an open minded medical doctor I had enjoyed aromatherapy for decades and held an enduring respect for time honoured herbalists’ perspectives and different health paradigms arising amongst my own and other cultures. My parents and grandparents had engaged orthodox medical care integrated alongside Naturopathic, Herbalist, Acupuncture, and Chiropractic healthcare providers throughout my childhood- so I was indeed open minded. During medical school I undertook formal evening schooling in Naturopathic, homeopathic, herbalist and iridologist studies- but found them hard to unquestioningly accept, and seemed to be the cynic in class. I found the rigidity of thinking, the unquestioning culture, and the profoundly negative and suspicious views of orthodox medicine deal breakers for me. After two years I dropped those studies and focused on medicine, but always held a respect for people’s right to choose amongst the various healthcare paradigms.
Some years back I had the opportunity to occasionally buy YL products from my lovely nearby neighbour , just for the sheer pleasure of infusing my environment with Nature’s beautiful and uplifting perfumes. Not comprehending what I was getting myself into, I joined her ‘group’ in order to buy discounted oils for myself, or as gifts for family. I found I could not bare to proselytise YL or to view my family and friends as business ‘prospects’. I could not and would not sell the products. However, I studied their massive herbal compendium, and found my capacity for study and discriminatory thinking provided a constant healthy balance to the overblown claims made by YL’s sources, or their YL information and propaganda material, or coming from contact with distributors.
I had been initially surprised and enjoyed hearing of how the YL oils seemed helpful to some of their clients.
BUT, over the course of a couple of years, I became increasingly uncomfortable then shocked by the bold and over confident claims and attitudes expressed by my ‘upline’ and other YL distributors.
I was appalled and ultimately horrified by their increasingly vivid and personal claims of YL cures or treatment plans, made by YL distributors - usually said in the ‘quiet’ of their own or clients’ personal space. At that time I was working deeply with many patients and families facing advanced progressive illness; real people, real suffering, real end of life situations. I had always been mindful of both the successes and the limits of orthodox medicine. And whenever my patients or families involved ‘alternative’ therapies in their own care, I supported their right to choose the course of their life, including their healthcare choices.
When I encountered such persistent and automatic defensiveness expressed by the distributors I encountered , when I even gently questioned their YL claims, I found this to be appalling, and in my opinion, dangerous. They saw themselves as ‘healers’, do gooders, spiritual healers, and seemed to be deeply suspicious of orthodox medicine. They applauded and amplified each others’ magical ideas and bonded over conspiracy theories.
A personal experience : while being somewhat open-minded regarding YL’s claims, I did experience the raindrop technique administered by 2 enthusiastic and highly committed distributors. They started to feel like cult members to me as they expressed their beliefs during through the raindrop ‘treatment. Within 24 hrs I developed more than an initial redness; a pretty severe inflammatory reaction ( a chemical burn) with dozens of ulcerated lesions cascading along both sides of my entire spine . My ‘upline’ distributor healer’s response to me was not very kind, but also not very surprising: she responded to my situation with such positive enthusiasm and reassurance, stating the skin reaction was evidence of ‘a strong healing detoxifying reaction’.
I sought medical care and my doctor was equally horrified as my chemical burns took weeks to heal, and scarring pigmentation remained for years.
Some years later I was pleased to accidentally encounter YL information encouraging distributors not to claim YL cures or as medical treatment.
I respect the YL quality product but I believe the people can unconsciously (or maybe even consciously) morph from enthusiastic members into being members of another western cult. A word of warning: although they may no longer publicly express their cult beliefs, these are still held, even just beneath the surface, and justify the moral drive for their business model.
Be careful with YL - or indeed with any of the essential oil companies using similar business models.
Our ability to question, to be conscious and aware, and to maintain the ability to discriminate, are not cynical qualities, but important for the wise care of yourself , your family, and …. Maybe even your potential clients.

What's most disturbing is Gary Young the founder who was never a medical Dr but Practiced "medicine" he also killed one of his daughters at child birth by holding her under water for an hour. Under cover Journalists sent him blood of healthy animals only for him to claim they had cancer & no recognition that it was not human blood & of course he claimed a detox program of her s would cure them. One woman who was being treated by him died in his care from liver failure even though she had a healthy liver when she started seeing him. Never mind that the oils were found to contain lead. So it's interesting to me how many people are so quick to defend this company & ones like it's outright lies.

I remember thinking it was bold as hell when the lady selling it claimed that she cured a kids asthma by putting oils on his back. The number of claims she made about Young Living products was insane. Either YL distributors are happy to push this idea or YL just doesn't care.

@@laughingcorpses4463 Young Living is a company with billions of dollars in revenue; they’re in the same league as Big Pharma, and they have the same reason to practice the same deceptive and anti-consumer policies, based around deception, misinformation, and things like pyramid-schemes, and clever control of the media; people think that it’s just one or the other, when it comes to big companies like this, but the truth is, all of them are corrupt, and staffed with parasites and incompetent people; all you have to do is read the accounts of people online who use to work for Young Living, and see how they describe the managers; the managers do no work and they have absolute power and they can fire you for any reason and they promote based on whim and personal fancy and not competence, and they don’t care about any of the people occupying the lower levels, but they pretend do; and the pyramid-scheme-likeness of their business plan is proof of that; also, these oils contain hormone disruptors; they won’t tell you that, but it’s true, but they’re “natural” hormone disruptors, and so, nobody pays any attention to them, and people act like they’re safe, just because they’re “natural”; yeah, cobra-venom is natural, too; how safe is that? This company preys on people who are disillusioned with how mechanical and artificial and “anti-natural” other companies and products are becoming, and the way they do it is by offering products that are “herbal” and “natural” and going on and on about how they’re safe and aromatic and effective; but, as can be seen, the company is built on a pyramid-scheme, and a company that’s built on a pyramid-scheme can’t be trusted to properly verify the safety or efficacy of any product, even though they say they do; everything’s corrupt; everything; there’s barely any such thing as “good” or “honesty” in any multi-billion dollar industry, anywhere.

While I really don’t agree with what’s advertised in YL, It is fair to point out that during the Black Death in Europe the plague doctors did use at the time their version of theives in their masks. However, those “doctors” also had cleaner habits. I don’t disagree that oils can calm or sooth muscle tension but anything past that isn’t going to work for anyone. The reason most people buy into this is because they’re tired of medication that makes them or their kids zombies or has negative effects, people are proud to say “I cured my kid, f* big pharma” I do agree that YL brings a healthier lifestyle with joining the company and loads of friends but most of what is being advertised is placebo.

I do Young Living and if these ladies are losing money and have thousands on their shelves that's because they chose to. I've made an amazing fall back for my family just by sharing how well the Young Living products have worked for us. These people who make these movies should consider interviewing the ones who enjoy helping people and making money doing it. Btw, 89% of the members don't do the business so making $4 is just a bonus for them. I don't know the percentage of how many people do the business but I'm one of them and I can tell you, the information about the business is incorrect. Also if my kids are sick they take medicine, young living is just a bonus to help our immune systems. No Young Living consultant I know has advised anyone to not take their medicine.

Generally they are the same MLM function, regardless YL or doterra. The bigger problem is, they claims their oils are authenticated made from their own plantation. Therefore the price of the oils they sell are expensive, they did claim that the effect of therapy are better than others therefore no one can replace them. Is actually not true... Expensive oil doesn’t mean must be authenticated because it can contains some special additive can make you feel better after aromatherapy .The real essential oil companies like Plant Therapy, now food they sell an EO are cheaper than this two MLM but it could deliver with the same effect of aromatherapy. However their EO more natural than those add in extra drug or addictive. Of course an EO is not a medicine that serve as cure disease purpose, is just an aromatherapy can help to boost your body immunity and cell as a method of self treatment. Most of people misunderstand about the concept of aromatherapy because they treat themselves like a doctor that’s why over describe the medical benefits on EO in social media.

I never promote that it will cure, i’ve never claimed it. I don’t sell to make money, what works for me may may not work for you. The company can’t totally control what other people say all the time. I’m not in it for the money I’m in it for the benefits. I let my customers make up their own mind. And I don’t care if I make money or not!

How do you market a small, 47$ bottle of air freshener then? Calming effects I can get for 5.00...its called fresh lavender. You really think we don't know and have not heard the sales pitch. I cleaned houses....do you know how many people put drops into water and had me clean with only that? Tons!! They got it from their reps. Water and oil cleaned nothing. Just filmy, nasty dust attractions

My last girlfriend’s company provided all the entertainment for YoungLiving events. At their biannual Lavender Days festival, we’d go down and watch Gary Young joust, on a horse, against another “knight” (assumedly a poor, brave employee of Gary’s) who would always take a brutal fall off his horse, in front of a big crowd at the medieval jousting arena on the YoungLiving property, as Gary smashed his lance into his chest plate.
In Mr Young’s king-like regalia, it was palpable that he fancied himself a god or prophet.

I’ve used different oils to calm me down like lavender. (You can smoke many of these too btw or mix it In with ur bud) they work well but I wouldn’t be suprised if it was placebo. Please shop small for oils and shop organic

If you have fresh lavender you can smoke it, you just need to dry it first if you don't buy it in dried form. But remember, when smoking lavender, use the flower or plant form find lavender, not lavender essential oil. It's not safe to smoke or vape natural essential oils either, even natural lavender essential oils.

The only essential oils I buy are the ones by „Premium Nature“. I don‘t see the point in spending 20$ on an essential oil and the ones I buy are between 5-8$ and tbh they make my whole house smell amazing. Idk, spending a lot of money when you can get the same or even better quality for a much smaller price seems stupid to me 😅

When you buy YL oils you don’t get any information that they cure cancer or COVID or Parkinson’s. You don’t get that information from the company at all. Their website doesn’t say that either. They don’t invite you to any secret reunión where they teach you how to cure asthma or autism. 🤷🏽‍♀️
