US citizen here, I took my kids shopping with me yesterday. (12 and 15) Anything they wanted to put in the cart, they had to read the ingredients and if there was a seed oil in it, they couldn’t have it. My 15yo was stunned by the number of “foods” that were laced with poisonous oils. We came home with meat, eggs, dairy and some fruit. Actually, also a box of strawberry creamsicle type frozen dessert bars made in Mexico. The US just wants to poison us all near enough to death that we buy all the drugs to keep us”living”. The wife and I both late 50s. Been eating wrong all our lives. She's got breast cancer, I was morbidly obese with T2D. I've turned it around on Carnivore but cancer is harder to defeat. The worst thing is watching the next generation destroy themselves on a fast food, seed oil based diet. Take away pizzas, burgers and french fries are so much more convenient than having to make the effort to eat the Proper Human Diet.

I'm in my late 20s and for years I've had unusually high blood pressure, typically around 145/90. I'm overweight at 240lbs. I stumbled onto this video purely by chance, but I've adjusted my diet according to it. It's not even been a week now, and for the first time in my adult life, I recorded a blood pressure of 125/79. I've never seen it below 135. My inflammation has decreased notably, and my sleep has been incredible these past couple nights. I finally know how to heal my body! Look into ketosis, where the body burns fat. Fun fact, keytones are from fat and you can literally pee some out. If glycogen stores are high you aren't in ketosis. The tribes consuming high carbohydrate diets would be active enough to burn them. This video is eye opening, but too much sugar in your cells is also toxic and insulin stores fat when sugar can no longer be allowed by Glut4, just downstream of the insulin receptor.

Eat as naturally and organically as possible, animal fat is not bad for you, this was propaganda from bad research, funded by companies and organizations, with vested interests. Even some sugar, again more natural sources better, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, not so bad, & did you know? A sugar alternative, xylitol helpful for gut health and regrows tooth enamel. But basically, no processed foods, and toxic seed oils. Latest research; that metabolic disorder, the precusor to weight gain, is related to low C15, a protein found in goat and sheep milk products, lesser in whole, (non pasteurized and homogenized cow's milk, and other proteins, so consider adding some of these foods into your diet, organic goat's cheese, or milk, and pecorino cheese from sheep's milk. I am sharing this in the hope that it motivates someone to act sooner than I did. I got sensible with sugar and carbs, and quit 7 very common things altogether - 1) anything battered and fried, 2) bread, 3) pasta, 4) potatoes, 5) corn, 6) rice, and 7) all fruits but rasberries, blueberries and strawberries. Plus, the only deserts I eat are an occassional bit of sugar free jello or pudding, sprinkled with nuts and a bit of whipped cream. This isn't a true KETO diet, but it's along those lines, and the 7 things I listed were the main staples of my unhealthy diet. I also replaced seed oils with butter, lard, bacon grease and olive oil. I eat all the meats of every kind I want, as long as they are not fried in seed oil, along with lots of eggs, cheese and low carb veggies. Bacon is wonderful, and I eat LOTS of it. Three months after I started this, my doctor took me off all T2D meds, as I no longer needed them. Two years later, I have lost 35 pounds and my cholesterol and triglycerides are perfectly normal for the first time in my life. {My overall cholesterol after fasting was once 600, and my triglycerides were 1400 - seriously.) My heart checkups have also improved exponentially. Wish me luck, and please do not wait . Start a more healthy diet today.

Very interesting we keep hearing of nitrates in bacon. I love it but try to eat it infrequently save for what I make a Canadian style. Also primarily use lard& butter for cooking. I do like pasta on occasion perhaps 1x a month or so. I eat alot of pork beef chicken & venison. What of fish?

Stopped cooking with seed oils after I realized every time I cooked with such oils I got terrible stomach ache. Now I only use olive oil and butter at home. I remain in great health & low end of normal weight for height, cycle to work 10 km a day. On zero medications & I am old enough to retire. 😊
Since I've learned about seed oils about 3 years ago I've changed my diet. Olive oil, butter, and coconut oil are what I use in the kitchen, and I avoid restaurants the best I can - within reason. My health has improved markedly and I'm down 20lbs - so, yes, I'm convinced.

It's simple: stick to things that have only 1 ingredient, but no isolates like sugar and oil (you can throw them together obviously for a meal) I consider whole grain pasta to be healthy, but you should have them split up in to maximum 2 meals a day. Other than that I eat oats, nuts and vegetables. Only drink water, coffee, and tea without additives. If you're vegan have your vit.B12 and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids (like algae oil), maybe vit.D if you're a nightshift worker or not out in the sun much, and you're good. I'm 40 years old, athletic, everyone thinks I'm much younger. Take good care of your bodies folks 💟🌌☮️
You would do even better without the olive & coconut oil, due to the unhealthy cholesterol-lowering effect of the plant sterols that they contain --- see th-cam.com/video/XFFT4C1OcPY/w-d-xo.html. You can collect the melted fat from the beef or lamb that you roast or fry --- pour it into a heat-proof bowl & it will solidify & can be kept, unrefrigerated, for months. You can also keep chicken, pork, & duck fat, but since they don't solidify to the same extent, they will need to be refrigerated & used sooner (or they could be frozen).
I moved and was assigned a new doctor. At my first visit they took my blood pressure and the nurse apologized that the blood pressure machine was not working and she would go find another machine. The new machine she said "was a little better", my blood pressure was 95 /59 . Apparently the other machine showed it even lower . Later when the doctor came in she remarked on the health of my heart. I asked if she thought it was normal . She said it was strong . I have had an irregular heart beat since I was a teenager! These results are from being on no seed oil ,high animal fat carnivore diet for around two years. I'm 70 years old.
There is one thing that I haven't heard mentioned in this line of reasoning that I think is worth considering. All of the vegetable oils that are used for frying, especially in restaurants, are treated with strong synthetic antioxidants because they have to be, otherwise they wouldn't even last a few hours in the fryer. Those antioxidants are, of course, oil soluble, and are eaten with whatever food has been cooked in the oil. They are formulated to resist degradation even in the harsh conditions of industrial frying and are certainly resistant to biological/human-enzymatic degradation, and so they must end up dissolved in the fats of human cells, both storage fat and structural. The nature of the antioxidants is to inhibit chemical changes to fats and they must continue to do that in the body. That is metabolic havoc for sure.

Probably BHT. Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw recommended BHT for longevity purposes in their book. BHT also combats viral infections. I am willing to eat foods with BHT since it is an anti-oxidant, unlike seed oils.@@hugoanderkivi

When i was at school last eighties early ninties i was told that in health education and it has stayed with me. It annoys me to know now it was all lies. I can assume the teachers didnt know that at the time. They said butter was the devil.

I know this may have been asking too much but, I'm concerned for the vegetarian population in India that have recently turned to oils and have left butter and ghee behind. I understand this has become quite a problem.
I totally agree that this needs to go on the Hubermann lab podcast, though, I don't think Dr Knobbe is the guy for it. He doesn't reference any randomized controlled studies. As a scientist myself, while this talk is convincing with the fancy graphics, scientifically it's unconvincing to me (though, very interesting!). He could have made the exact same argument with any other uncorrelated thing. Such as the number of hours in front of a screen or the number of micro-plastics we consume. To be sure something actually causes something else it MUST be in a controlled study. Luckily, there are many controlled studies that have been done with omega-6, they just aren't as exciting as a plot. I have been aware of the dangers of seed oil consumption, but had primarily focussed on sugars and carbohydrates to be the main drivers of metabolic disregulation. An essential adjustment of thinking was needed, and this presentation has provided sufficient, quantified and qualified information for me to do so. Thankyou once again.
The way I see it, the RELATIVE amount of sugar and carbs (which Knobbe had on his graphs) is not the whole story, but the ABSOLUTE amount is. Even if your refined carbs percentage goes down 10 %, it doesn't matter if you eat twice as much food than previously (Knobbe said we eat more food than before), because the chances of exceeding your carbohydrate tolerance limit increases when you eat more food. Not saying that seed oils don't play a role, but I still consider sugar and refined carbs to be the primary driver of modern disease. Especially for type 2 diabetes I find that crystal clear (if your cells are not willing to accept glucose, then why would you eat foods rich in starch where one molecule consists of hundreds of thousands of glucose units that will be unleashed in your blood within minutes of eating it?). Like if you're allergic to peanuts, then why would you eat that?
Exactly! As I've been reading labels and putting things back on the shelf due to ridiculous abundance of net carbs, maybe the thing making me healthier was the avoidance of the seed oil poison. It was very surprising to see the DECLINE in carb/sugar consumption since the 60's! I suspect there is amplified harm in the incendiary MIXTURE of sugar/grains AND the omega-6 fatty acids.

I am 63 and in 6mths on Carnivore have lost 65lbs, and cured every chronic illness I had. I have been blaming the sugar and carbs, but this has me thinking that, yes, sugar is bad, but the real evil is the oils. Much of my success on Carnivore may be due to the oils more than i gave credit for. Interesting that native cultures with no chronic health problems can have carb intakes from 4%-96%, and still do well.
@@hugoanderkivi Complex carbs get broken down into glucose but (fruit/cane) sugar (sucrose) is a disaccharide consisting of one part fructose and one part glucose. [the glycemic index, ie the blood sugar response, is higher for eating bread (flour starch being 100% glucose) than for eating straight sugar.] The problem with sugar is the fructose, which can only be metabolized in the liver and which, in excess, causes fatty liver disease and elevated Hb-A1c, ie elevated glycation of hemoglobin.

Around a year ago I abruptly added a lot of canola oil to my diet. I was already having digestive problems and inflammation, because of eating too much sugar, too few anti-inflammatory foods and too little fiber. I was drinking a smoothie every day (I'm a skinny person working a manual labor type job and I needed something convenient and high in calories) so I added oil to my smoothies. I found my inflammation got worse having seed oils / canola oil in my smoothies, so I stopped. It was only after that, that I learned of some of the other negative effects of seed oils. I still struggle to eat healthy but I'm definitely avoiding seed oils.

Jenna, when you say your diet is 90% meat based do you mean carnivore? My situation is similar situation to yours. I got rid of processed food, vegetable and seed oils, added sugars and most carbohydrates. I've been getting closer to carnivore but it is difficult to shake what we were taught. The emphasis on eating lots of fruit and vegetables comes from beliefs that have been largely debunked. I was going to join Dr Andrew Chaffee's community, I'm not sure if you're familiar with him, he is an MD, surgeon and advocate for carnivore diet. He does carnivore in its purest form, meat, salt and water. He is extremely healthy and there are many, many testimonials from people whose lives have been radically changed for the better. Do you practice intermittent fasting? I generally do from about 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 a.m. or early afternoon. I have coffee with heavy cream but no usually food until then unless I am hungry. Do you eat avocados or any other fruits or vegetables? I would love any other details you are willing to share.

My friend had type 2 diabetes really bad. Had to do the needle daily. She cut out all oils from her diet, even cooking without oil. Took about 6 weeks but after that she needed NO medication and her blood sugar came down to normal. Years later she still has good blood sugar levels and NO meds/needles. It's tough to cook without the oils and all that, but she is super healthy now.

I’m fair skin and burn easy. I don’t tan, i freckle. 2018 went low carb high healthy fat. 1 year later noticed I don’t burn as quickly in summer sun exposure, w/o sunscreen. Thought it was weird, but seed oils do not comprise my cells anymore and it made a huge difference.

We are friends with a couple in their early 70s, we tried to explain how seed oils are very unhealthy. She got very defensive and said "we've been using them for years and we're fine." The fact is she has had two different cancers, currently diabetic, significantly over weight, has mobility issues and all kinds of aches and pains... but she's "fine".
People are stupid. That's why they say things like that. Ironically, seed oils and all the other chemicals put into foods make people more stupid. I had to give my mother a physical intervention to get her to stop using the seed oils. It was so pathetic. I also had to fight to the bitter end with her idiot retard boyfriend to get him to stop making her meals because he refused to stop feeding her junk food and using seed oils. Most people cant even properly define what junk food is. It's sad what's been done to the Human race.
They've brainwashed us to think these diseases are a normal part of aging. They never act concerned. These are serious diseases that seriously change ppls lives. But to them, it's dollar signs.
I don't know what is causing what, but I do know from my N=1 that cutting out carbs and the majority of processed foods (and thereby reducing the seeds oils too) I am now metabolically healthy, and have lost 25% of my starting weight without trying. I was diagnosed with diabetes in October 2021 and it only took 3 months to remit it. I have gained so many unexpected benefits from changing my diet. I don't look at foods in the shop as how they taste, but whether they are good, bad or neutral for my body.
I bought a carton of Unique almond 'milk' that was 6% almond and the rest water. The same supplier has Almond 'milk' thar contained 3% almond, water and amongst the other contents was Sunflower Oil, how on earth is Sunflower oil needed in an Almond drink?
If you "eliminate" vegetable oils you also avoid ultra processed foods. While these oils are pretty certainly a big player, they're not the only one. UPFs have many other toxic ingredients.
Sugar and seed oils are the big one. Starches/carbohydrates are seceond. Conservant, emulsifiers and so on are the third. Phytotoxins (like e.g. gluten, phytates, oxalates) are the next...

Another one that is even worse than regular table sugar, is maltodextrine, because it is even higher on the glycemic index, and spikes blood sugar and insulin even more. Then there is fructose which is highly toxic to the liver. All these things are pretty much equal to your list as well.
Four years ago I started intermittent fasting and became keto and after a few month carnivore. A few month later my mother also started fasting and ate low carb because she saw how well it worked for me. She lost weight, improved prediabetes and high blood pressure. But she still had seed oils back then. Two years ago she told me about her macular degenaration. I told her about your presentations and that she should stop eating seed oils and margerine (she does't understand English well enough, so I could't really show her your talks) But she listened to me (probably also because her mother is almost blind and had margerine and seed oils most her life) and cut out all seed oils, which was hard for her because she never ate butter and is not a dairy fan. But one year later when she had her next eye exam the doctor was stunned. He could't believe that her macular degenaration could improve. But it was what the eye exam showed. He never saw that before. 😊Now she doesen't even need her eye drops anymore. When people ask me why I am not eating seed oils and I don't let my kids eat french fries etc. I tell them I am too afraid of getting blind. I also think lipomas might be related to seed oil intake. I have some of them. After cutting out seed oils I didn't get new lipomas. It is also as if my lipomas shrinked a little, but they are still there... I wonder if there is research about lipomas and seed oil intake and if it is possible to reverse lipomas by diet only. 😊
That’s a good question. I’m curious about a connection between seed oils and lipomas too, more specifically omega 6 oils. I’ve developed lipomas around my ankles starting about 10 years ago and more recently my inside elbows. I didn’t grow up eating a lot of refined food and I’ve never knowingly consumed a lot of refined seed oils; though I’m sure I’ve eaten some hidden in the occasional restaurant food indulgence. I also make the occasional sweet “keto” treat using almonds and other nuts, which are high in omega 6 oils. Tightening up my macros to 80/15/5 keto has kept the lipomas from getting bigger, but I can’t really say they have shrunk in proportion to my weight loss. I have read that lipomas sometimes occur at the location of an injury. The first one I noticed was on an ankle that had been severely injured in my childhood and bears a large disc shaped scar. I have also sprained and fractured my ankles multiple times in my life. So that seems to support the injury hypothesis. More recently I began getting lipomas around the medial epicondyle on both arms. I have suffered from tendinitis off and on in both arms and also had frequent infusions and phlebotomy in those locations. The size and density of each lipoma seems to be relative to the severity and frequency of injury at each location. So it seems the relationship to seed oils may be possible, but it is probably very complex. If your lipomas are near a joint or located next to an old injury, I wonder if that might also be a factor.
@@gins8781 My lipomas are localted on my back, legs and arms. Not near any joints though, but I can't remember whether I had injuries on that locations or not. Maybe when was younger, but not a serious injury. I wouldn't forget that, of course.
@@fitnessfreak6252The only oils we need are olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, ghee, tallow. Some doctors give fish oil the ok. So it's mostly animal fats like when pastry and french fries tasted great.

I am sending this to all my friends/family who STILL eat seed oils "but it's organic!" .Dr. Joseph Mercola was the first person to alert me to the dangers of linoleic acid/seed oils/Omega 6 etc around 2017/8 I think, so I am very grateful to him. Back in 2016, I started doing intermittent fasting and started eating (as my breakfast - at 12:30) various seeds including sunflower , pumpkin , various berries and quite a lot of different nuts, brazils, walnuts and incl. almonds (which are quite high in Omega 6 so I don't go overboard) - but I eat ZERO SEED *OILS*. The high heat in processing of these oils is a huge part of the problem . Processed food , and basically all restaurant food, of course, contains a lot. Hence we must minimize eating it. But, yes MOST people STILL cook with these horrendous veg oils as they are CHEAP , and yes they've also been fooled by the media etc. I am an omnivore pretty much. I never eat Junk food - that was a rule even before I knew about the seed oils. It tasters awful usually anyway. In terms of fats , I only eat saturated fat and a little Olive Oil on salads; I cook with coconut oil and/or butter. I also eat 1-2 table-spoons of coconut oil daily. as its good brain food. I'm in my 60s , my BP is ~110/70, weight 125 lb, resting heart rate is < 60, I take no medications and have no chronic diseases & no arthritis. I swim more or less daily. I take about 2-3 grams of T-R Vit C daily and have done so for over 30 years. Also I am UNVAXXED!. I feel healthy, and I mostly avoid trad doctors and Big Pharma like the plague!😃
Another wonderful presentation!! I have been following Dr Knobbe’s work for years and the link between vegetable oil and most of the serious diseases we face now is incontrovertible. I wish the ‘main stream’ medical community would get on board and see this correlation. His work could literally save hundreds of thousands of lives.
YEah I agree. I only eat beef and sweet fruit and I am skinny fat and the fat is reducing with the more muscle I build. A friend of mine eats a lot of seed oils and refined sugar and he has a lot of visceral fat that is giving him a massive gut.
Fear of vegetable oils has increased my consumption of grass-fed butter and homemade ghee. Both parents were nearly blind from wet macular degeneration before they died (though in their 90s). I don’t trust olive oil to be unadulterated either. When I watch a video of some guy cooking recipes from famous modern chefs and he fries expensive beef in canola oil, I cringe. But Famous Chef has been brainwashed into worshipping rapeseed…
@@Beatrice-nx5ldmake sure your olive oil is first pressed and certified legit. Most of that crap is soybean oil. If it's in a clear or plastic bottle, throw it in the trash and find another brand. I avoid it altogether but my wife likes it, so I make sure she's getting what we pay for.
I love my homemade grass-fed ghee. I like to make mine in a crockpot and filter it through a stainless steel coffee filter. What's your go-to technique? I think my favorite butter to use is the unsalted Vital Farms. 😋
that is what McDonald's use to use for their once great french fries and apple pies, but no more. they got paid off to cause us harm. same as Taco Bell who used to use healthy coconut oil for frying.
The thing about this is, you also have to take into account the more advance detection techniques we have developed as well. While there is certainly a large finger to be pointed at seed oils in our diets, it still needs to be cross referenced and balanced with how much better we are at detecting those things earlier. That being said, even if you cut these numbers by 90%, the fact that they are simply that much more prominent speaks volumes.
Just avoiding seed oils and sugar is most of the battle. Exercise can help accelerate results for any health goal. Just avoiding seeds oils has helped me get more lean. I'm 43 and I never would have thought I would have a flat stomach just by adjusting my diet. Also no more high blood pressure.

Longevity has not been mentioned up to now. People in 1890 didn't live as long as they live now, they died of other illnesses that are not life-style related and not longevity related. That native tribe who ate mostly sweet potatoes and had no diabetes or heart disease or macular degeneration, what average life duration has? Many of our death causes are related to longevity. But (big but here) obesity, non alcoholic liver disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, are seen in a more and more younger people. Life style, and very much diet play a big part. Likely sugar and seed oils are big culprits among other helpers present in processed food.
Most of the increase in longevity is due to reduced premature mortality, ie lower infant mortality, reduced accidents, etc. You may be interested to learn that life expectancy in the USA has been decreasing for the last four years.

This wonderful data and analysis and knowing that veg oils are bad, we can never get them off the shelf. This also explains why I see more and more people in Tokyo getting fatter and chronic disease are on the rise. All process food are literally cooked on soybean or corn oil here in Japan. All sweet drinks are mostly using aspartame which is known to cause cancer as well.

I ordered Chris' book about seed oils. It is interesting that the premise is the correlation between the rise in seed oil use and the rise in chronic disease. The biggest adherents to objecting to seed oils are the very ones who constantly are saying, "Correlation does not equal causation". That is correct, correlation does not equal causation, but that is exactly what this is. I'm not saying Chris is wrong, just that it is based on a correlation.
Whilst carbs by themselves may not be so problematic, it might be a significant problem in a mixed macro diet with large amounts of both carbs and fat. I haven't touched seed oils for many years. I consider them toxic; high heat treated, processed with chemicals, oxidized before getting in the bottle, often further oxidized when used for cooking, contain aldehydes.
Dr Knobbe is great to listen to. Ive been a follower of Dr Mercola now for many years, he has been the subject of many lies because of his stance on this subject. We need more doctors that will do the research!
Everyone needs to hear this. Can't even go to the grocery store without seeing a high percentage of obese shoppers. I watch my neighbors struggle to walk down their own driveway and they're only in their 60's. We're in a world of hurt. The problem comes from the "industrially. .. *refined* ....vegetable oils" . The cold pressed natural oils are best. Fresh butter snd Clarified nutter os the very best. . ..for foods.
So Dr. Knobbe notes that heart disease was uncommon prior to the 1900s. Yet it is said that heart disease was common among ancient Egyptians, as evidenced by the fact that mummys often show evidence of calcified arteries. Why would the ancient Egyptians have experienced CVD? Is it because they ate a lot of breads/grains?
The ancient Egyptians actually did have some seed oils, that’s what lettuce was originally cultivated to produce. I think this presentation is a bit reductive, but it’s interesting information.

For what it's worth I had severe health issues, stomach, diabetes, etc. I was literally dying! No kidding About six months of fasting and carnivore. Got me back on track and for the record now I call carnivore a MIRACLE! Yes, with capital letter. Now the curious part. For about a month I have added some "veggie" oils to my diet. Olive oil, that should allegedly have been "virgin olive oil". Which is not. 😞 And oils like sunflower, canola, rapeseed... Lo & behold the stomach issues "surprisingly" came back!!! 1 month. This is not even a bad joke. It's criminal what they sell us!

Great Lecture but I do think it is not only seed oils and processed food but a combination of seed oils, processed foods as well as refined carbs and sugar.
I have been wondering about vegetable oil and particularly palm oil. I was at a girls school in England in the fifties/sixties when most of us had 24 inch waists. Girls with a 26 inch waist were a bit chubby! But now! In this century I saw one girl comment on TV that a 24 inch waist was impossible. (Mine was 23 inches when I was 18!) And what happened in that time? Margarine was one thing. It was cheaper than butter and pushed as being healthy.
This is the thing we don't see in other communities. This community is not afraid to say "carbs are not our enemy" despite advocating for a low carb diet. It is open minded to say, "we know we don't need carbs to survive, but it's ok to consume in moderation and just avoid consuming these types."
I aggree that seed oils are harmful. But I disagree with making sugar less harmful. Sugar is probably the biggest issue followed by the seed oils and then carbohydrates in general, especially refined starches...
Great work. It is rare to see a product in the supermarket that has no vegetable oils in them. Or emulsifiers etc. So I make my own food now and avoid oils like the plague from now on
I am now 82 years old . When I was a teenager I use to pick vegetables on the farms just north of Portsmouth England. I am now a beekeeper on those same farms and all they grow now is corn. Barely and oil seed rape. I still eat the same foods as I did 70 years ago and still quite active for my age.
All these studies. Common in all the examples of "healthy people" is that they don't over consume and hence are not fat and also have a regular/daily exercise. It has not so much relation with what they eat.

I have retinitis pigmentosa and since being on carnivore low-carb diet my eyesight has improved dramatically and I would love to speak with someone that knows about this stuff from an ophthalmology point of view.
I second that. I want to understand more about carnivore benefits for vision. A good friend just became type 2 diabetic and has complained about dim vision (in addition to joint pain and difficulty walking now).
seems to be some association with carnivores beginning to address astigmatisms, which if that is true. will be interesting what advances can be made in that department (as I have been noticing differences in that regard myself).
You will know more than any doctor if you read Dr. Knobbe's first book: Ancestral Dietary Strategy to Prevent and Treat Macular Degeneration. I would live and breathe this book until I'm following every last part of his diet. You have to figure out what and how you can accomplish it. You may find yourself looking for wild caught salmon. Some times of the year you have to find it frozen because it doesn't come fresh all year round. Zero tolerance of seed oils is required. This will mean making your own salad dressing. If you like blue cheese dressing you are in luck! It is very hard to find good tasting mayonnaise without seed oils so there's another place to find and make your own recipe. It all starts with his book!! I would say that this book has the "ophthalmology point of view" you are looking for. Treat yourself to the hard cover version.

One major thing about all the indigenous people is that they were all very active. They had to work for food and obviously didnt over eat. In that sense they lived a balanced lifestyle. No balance today, food is beyond easy to get, and the easier the worse. Id like to see a chart showing avg activity levels and health issues, as an additional and important element of comparison. Also one with food availability.
Lard doesn't soak into foods as much, for one thing. But sitting here I think it's easy to see that difference doesn't account for the change. I've always considered the seed oils poison, since I was a kid, just by the look and the feel of them. I didn't need anybody to tell me that. The plastic jugs were bad and I never liked how the oil felt on my skin -- it all seemed like poison to me.
Wow. I would have never expected to see carb and sugar consumption are on the decline from 1960 to now. As I have cut carbs and gotten healthier, I've probably also somewhat unconsciously been cutting vegetable oils. I've been thinking carbs are the devil. You might be onto something!
I think all of us who have made progress with health and weight loss on low carb or carnivore diets may attribute the bulk of our success to cutting all the processed food. I notice now when reading labels how many ingredients are added to everything, but primarily hydrogenated veg oil and sugars. Carnivore and fasting are great for health restoration, but I think a return to a diet with some carbs in the form of fresh fruit and vegetables is in order once a healthy body weight is achieved. I have demonized carbs for too long. But I will never return to processed foods, anything made from wheat, or refined sugars.
Me neither. But those numbers that had come down were percentage of carbs from the eaten calories and number that went up was percentage of seed oils from eaten calories. Even if the relative amount of carb calories comes down, the absolute amount of carbs could still go up if we eat more food than before (Knobbes claimed we eat more food these days). If the absolute amount of eaten carbs exceeds your personal carbohydrate tolerance limit, you start to become insulin resistant and eventually develope type 2 diabetes. So I think it's misleading to say the carb consumption has come down, though the percentage of eaten calories from carbs could have, if his data is correct.
i live in Indonesia...my neigjbours diet: fried everything from breakfast. Oil: palm oil. People die all the time...problem: diabetes, sudden fatal heart attack and strokes. Tell me it has nothing to do with the oil they eat? they eat rice, fish and green leaves...they were meant to be healthy...but they fry everything.

These machine oils, "seed oils," already go rancid during their extraction (which should be a huge red flag), but then, unnatural, industrial antioxidants have to be added to keep this rancidity at bay, to make them shelf-stable. These, plus the omega-6 overload create a recipe for disaster. The data within Dr Knobbe's charts, although not establishing causation (simply because they present correlation, instead), are still highly interesting. We know that too high a level of omega-6 is a major problem, and seeing the effects of its fraud-besotted delivery system laid out so plainly is a great cause for concern.
Amazing. I have seen and heard lots about the damag caused by sugar and seed oil but this presentation was superb and did indeed burn the message into my brain. Sad to say goodby to crunchy crisps and commercial baking but a small price to pay!
Very interesting talk. I've gone full blown carnivore, which has eliminated ALL my problems inflammation, brain fog, knee pain, anxiety etc. and I am losing excess weight at a really good rate towards my ideal weight. However, I was always weary of seed oils previously and avoided them like the plague. So for me, carni and added animal fat and eliminating inflammatory vegetables seems to have provided amazing benefits. However, if the good doctor considers olive oil to be a seed oil too, then yes, I have eliminateed a fairly major seed oil recently. It was the one plant oil I did consume - could that have had a positive effect as well, couple with increased animal fats?
Thank for sharing your experience with olive oil It is not a seed derived but from the fruit and its content is different from seed oils, namely high in monounsaturates. However, it has been said somewhere in the net that before 1900, it was used for cosmetics and for oil lamps, ingestion began after that. I believe it is beneficial, but must be kept low so as to not make omega 6 significantly high in your diet.
I wholly blame seed oils for causing my father's death from dementia and Parkinson's. He was a vegetarian who never ate saturated fat and his diet was heavy in processed vegetarian "meat" and cereals.
Its really the combination of carbs and vegetable oils driving the disease epidemic. Goes back to activating the randle cycle which leads to mitochondrial damage
In Ireland in 1964, I never saw an obese person. By 1978, I observed one. Returning from the States in 1997 I saw numerous Irish persons who would be considered obese, and observing the populace until the year 2000 there seemed to be an explosion of obese in the Irish populace. All anecdotal, but I feel from observation there must be a processed food connection, perhaps from a population switching from butter and lard as a dietary fat source to " vegetable oils". Time will tell if this is the problem.
My eyes were opened a while ago to the problem of sugars and how they make you eat more by making you more hungry, more often. But even though I like to cook a lot of things with butter and lard, I was blind to the much greater problem of these oils, which for some dishes I do use a lot of. At the very least I'll be paying more attention to what products these oils are used in.
I don't know where your ancestors grew up but most people didn't have a massive list of fruits and vegetables to choose from. The list was extremely limited a hundred years ago.
My mother grew up in Finland in the 1930s and 40s. They had a lot of starchy veg but fruits would have been apples and berries for the most part. She remembered when her uncle came to visit and brought all the kids an orange. She was five years old and had her first orange!
Then how come diabetes and cancers are exploding in the poorest villages in India over the past 20-30 years where most don't have phones, cars or computers?

It's not just about heth with the seed oils at the restaurants, it's the flavour. You make a meal with olive oil or butter, or high fat meat, and the taste is amazing compared to anything cooked in seed oil 🤢
A good message, thank you, however most people dont know the range of products that are used with seed oils. ? That information is the most important of all. We need to remind people margerine, seed oils etc and most foods are cooked in seed oil ! Why is this info not included ?
While I do agree with the main ideas, the first charts are simply manipulative, to put it mildly. You can't compare statistical data from the 19th century with data from 2016. While many diseases might be overrepresented in current statistics due to changes in testing methods and reference values, it is very likely that many diseases were simply not monitored accurately in the 19th century.
No sugar is. Seed oils are a big cause of inflammation but you are much better off cutting sugar out of your life that seed oils. Moral of the story is cut out both.
I stopped eating out! Even the expensive/classy restaurants use cheapest ingredients. I can feel it next day!

I work in an expensive restaurant and you’re right…..they absolutely do. Ask for non-whipped butter as they mix it 50/50 with margarine and call it butter.
I’ve noticed this and don’t go back to those places. I’m very suspicious.

US citizen here, I took my kids shopping with me yesterday. (12 and 15) Anything they wanted to put in the cart, they had to read the ingredients and if there was a seed oil in it, they couldn’t have it. My 15yo was stunned by the number of “foods” that were laced with poisonous oils. We came home with meat, eggs, dairy and some fruit. Actually, also a box of strawberry creamsicle type frozen dessert bars made in Mexico. The US just wants to poison us all near enough to death that we buy all the drugs to keep us”living”. If your kids want cookies tell them to look for ones from Scotland, Italy, Ireland etc. they only use about 5 ingredients and it’s real ingredients, so glad it’s still possible to enjoy dessert! but only if it comes from another country.

The wife and I both late 50s. Been eating wrong all our lives. She's got breast cancer, I was morbidly obese with T2D. I've turned it around on Carnivore but cancer is harder to defeat. I'm in my late 20s and for years I've had unusually high blood pressure, typically around 145/90. I'm overweight at 240lbs. I stumbled onto this video purely by chance, but I've adjusted my diet according to it. It's not even been a week now, and for the first time in my adult life, I recorded a blood pressure of 125/79. I am sharing this in the hope that it motivates someone to act sooner than I did.
I got sensible with sugar and carbs, and quit 7 very common things altogether - 1) anything battered and fried, 2) bread, 3) pasta, 4) potatoes, 5) corn, 6) rice, and 7) all fruits but rasberries, blueberries and strawberries. Plus, the only deserts I eat are an occassional bit of sugar free jello or pudding, sprinkled with nuts and a bit of whipped cream. This isn't a true KETO diet, but it's along those lines, and the 7 things I listed were the main staples of my unhealthy diet. I also replaced seed oils with butter, lard, bacon grease and olive oil. I eat all the meats of every kind I want, as long as they are not fried in seed oil, along with lots of eggs, cheese and low carb veggies. Bacon is wonderful, and I eat LOTS of it. Three months after I started this, my doctor took me off all T2D meds, as I no longer needed them. Two years later, I have lost 35 pounds and my cholesterol and triglycerides are perfectly normal for the first time in my life. {My overall cholesterol after fasting was once 600, and my triglycerides were 1400 - seriously.) My heart checkups have also improved exponentially.

Stopped cooking with seed oils after I realized every time I cooked with such oils I got terrible stomach ache. Now I only use olive oil and butter at home. I remain in great health & low end of normal weight for height, cycle to work 10 km a day. On zero medications & I am old enough to retire. 😊

Since I've learned about seed oils about 3 years ago I've changed my diet. Olive oil, butter, and coconut oil are what I use in the kitchen, and I avoid restaurants the best I can - within reason. My health has improved markedly and I'm down 20lbs - so, yes, I'm convinced.

If you're vegan have your vit.B12 and a good source of omega-3 fatty acids (like algae oil), maybe vit.D if you're a nightshift worker or not out in the sun much, and you're good. olive oil when heated above smoke point (165 degree C/329 degree F) turns into transfat which are very bad.
You would do even better without the olive & coconut oil, due to the unhealthy cholesterol-lowering effect of the plant sterols that they contain --- see th-cam.com/video/XFFT4C1OcPY/w-d-xo.html. You can collect the melted fat from the beef or lamb that you roast or fry --- pour it into a heat-proof bowl & it will solidify & can be kept, unrefrigerated, for months. I moved and was assigned a new doctor. At my first visit they took my blood pressure and the nurse apologized that the blood pressure machine was not working and she would go find another machine. The new machine she said "was a little better", my blood pressure was 95 /59 . Apparently the other machine showed it even lower . Later when the doctor came in she remarked on the health of my heart. I asked if she thought it was normal . She said it was strong . I have had an irregular heart beat since I was a teenager! There is one thing that I haven't heard mentioned in this line of reasoning that I think is worth considering. All of the vegetable oils that are used for frying, especially in restaurants, are treated with strong synthetic antioxidants because they have to be, otherwise they wouldn't even last a few hours in the fryer. Those antioxidants are, of course, oil soluble, and are eaten with whatever food has been cooked in the oil. They are formulated to resist degradation even in the harsh conditions of industrial frying and are certainly resistant to biological/human-enzymatic degradation, and so they must end up dissolved in the fats of human cells, both storage fat and structural. The nature of the antioxidants is to inhibit chemical changes to fats and they must continue to do that in the body. That is metabolic havoc for sure.

Probably BHT. Durk Pearson and Sandy Shaw recommended BHT for longevity purposes in their book. BHT also combats viral infections. I am willing to eat foods with BHT since it is an anti-oxidant, unlike seed oils.@@hugoanderkivi

I totally agree that this needs to go on the Hubermann lab podcast, though, I don't think Dr Knobbe is the guy for it. He doesn't reference any randomized controlled studies. As a scientist myself, while this talk is convincing with the fancy graphics, scientifically it's unconvincing to me (though, very interesting!). He could have made the exact same argument with any other uncorrelated thing. Such as the number of hours in front of a screen or the number of micro-plastics we consume.
To be sure something actually causes something else it MUST be in a controlled study. Luckily, there are many controlled studies that have been done with omega-6, they just aren't as exciting as a plot. For more info, I'd recommend looking into the following other people:

I have been aware of the dangers of seed oil consumption, but had primarily focussed on sugars and carbohydrates to be the main drivers of metabolic disregulation. An essential adjustment of thinking was needed, and this presentation has provided sufficient, quantified and qualified information for me to do so.

The way I see it, the RELATIVE amount of sugar and carbs (which Knobbe had on his graphs) is not the whole story, but the ABSOLUTE amount is. Even if your refined carbs percentage goes down 10 %, it doesn't matter if you eat twice as much food than previously (Knobbe said we eat more food than before), because the chances of exceeding your carbohydrate tolerance limit increases when you eat more food. Not saying that seed oils don't play a role, but I still consider sugar and refined carbs to be the primary driver of modern disease. Especially for type 2 diabetes I find that crystal clear (if your cells are not willing to accept glucose, then why would you eat foods rich in starch where one molecule consists of hundreds of thousands of glucose units that will be unleashed in your blood within minutes of eating it?). Like if you're allergic to peanuts, then why would you eat that?
Exactly! As I've been reading labels and putting things back on the shelf due to ridiculous abundance of net carbs, maybe the thing making me healthier was the avoidance of the seed oil poison. It was very surprising to see the DECLINE in carb/sugar consumption since the 60's! I suspect there is amplified harm in the incendiary MIXTURE of sugar/grains AND the omega-6 fatty acids.

I am 63 and in 6mths on Carnivore have lost 65lbs, and cured every chronic illness I had. I have been blaming the sugar and carbs, but this has me thinking that, yes, sugar is bad, but the real evil is the oils. Much of my success on Carnivore may be due to the oils more than i gave credit for. Interesting that native cultures with no chronic health problems can have carb intakes from 4%-96%, and still do well.

[the glycemic index, ie the blood sugar response, is higher for eating bread (flour starch being 100% glucose) than for eating straight sugar.] The problem with sugar is the fructose, which can only be metabolized in the liver and which, in excess, causes fatty liver disease and elevated Hb-A1c, ie elevated glycation of hemoglobin.

Around a year ago I abruptly added a lot of canola oil to my diet. I was already having digestive problems and inflammation, because of eating too much sugar, too few anti-inflammatory foods and too little fiber. I was drinking a smoothie every day (I'm a skinny person working a manual labor type job and I needed something convenient and high in calories) so I added oil to my smoothies. I found my inflammation got worse having seed oils / canola oil in my smoothies, so I stopped. It was only after that, that I learned of some of the other negative effects of seed oils. I still struggle to eat healthy but I'm definitely avoiding seed oils.

Jenna, when you say your diet is 90% meat based do you mean carnivore? My situation is similar situation to yours. I got rid of processed food, vegetable and seed oils, added sugars and most carbohydrates. I've been getting closer to carnivore but it is difficult to shake what we were taught. The emphasis on eating lots of fruit and vegetables comes from beliefs that have been largely debunked.
I was going to join Dr Andrew Chaffee's community, I'm not sure if you're familiar with him, he is an MD, surgeon and advocate for carnivore diet. He does carnivore in its purest form, meat, salt and water. He is extremely healthy and there are many, many testimonials from people whose lives have been radically changed for the better.
Do you practice intermittent fasting? I generally do from about 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 a.m. or early afternoon. I have coffee with heavy cream but no usually food until then unless I am hungry. Do you eat avocados or any other fruits or vegetables?

My friend had type 2 diabetes really bad. Had to do the needle daily. She cut out all oils from her diet, even cooking without oil. Took about 6 weeks but after that she needed NO medication and her blood sugar came down to normal. Years later she still has good blood sugar levels and NO meds/needles. It's tough to cook without the oils and all that, but she is super healthy now.

I’m fair skin and burn easy. I don’t tan, i freckle. 2018 went low carb high healthy fat. 1 year later noticed I don’t burn as quickly in summer sun exposure, w/o sunscreen. Thought it was weird, but seed oils do not comprise my cells anymore and it made a huge difference.

We are friends with a couple in their early 70s, we tried to explain how seed oils are very unhealthy. She got very defensive and said "we've been using them for years and we're fine." The fact is she has had two different cancers, currently diabetic, significantly over weight, has mobility issues and all kinds of aches and pains... but she's "fine".
People are stupid. That's why they say things like that. Ironically, seed oils and all the other chemicals put into foods make people more stupid. I had to give my mother a physical intervention to get her to stop using the seed oils. It was so pathetic. I also had to fight to the bitter end with her idiot retard boyfriend to get him to stop making her meals because he refused to stop feeding her junk food and using seed oils. Most people cant even properly define what junk food is. It's sad what's been done to the Human race.

I don't know what is causing what, but I do know from my N=1 that cutting out carbs and the majority of processed foods (and thereby reducing the seeds oils too) I am now metabolically healthy, and have lost 25% of my starting weight without trying. I was diagnosed with diabetes in October 2021 and it only took 3 months to remit it. I have gained so many unexpected benefits from changing my diet. I don't look at foods in the shop as how they taste, but whether they are good, bad or neutral for my body.

Another one that is even worse than regular table sugar, is maltodextrine, because it is even higher on the glycemic index, and spikes blood sugar and insulin even more. Then there is fructose which is highly toxic to the liver. All these things are pretty much equal to your list as well.
Four years ago I started intermittent fasting and became keto and after a few month carnivore. A few month later my mother also started fasting and ate low carb because she saw how well it worked for me. She lost weight, improved prediabetes and high blood pressure. But she still had seed oils back then. Two years ago she told me about her macular degenaration. I told her about your presentations and that she should stop eating seed oils and margerine (she does't understand English well enough, so I could't really show her your talks) But she listened to me (probably also because her mother is almost blind and had margerine and seed oils most her life) and cut out all seed oils, which was hard for her because she never ate butter and is not a dairy fan. But one year later when she had her next eye exam the doctor was stunned. He could't believe that her macular degenaration could improve. But it was what the eye exam showed. He never saw that before. 😊Now she doesen't even need her eye drops anymore. When people ask me why I am not eating seed oils and I don't let my kids eat french fries etc. I tell them I am too afraid of getting blind. I also think lipomas might be related to seed oil intake. I have some of them. After cutting out seed oils I didn't get new lipomas. It is also as if my lipomas shrinked a little, but they are still there... I wonder if there is research about lipomas and seed oil intake and if it is possible to reverse lipomas by diet only. 😊
That’s a good question. I’m curious about a connection between seed oils and lipomas too, more specifically omega 6 oils. I’ve developed lipomas around my ankles starting about 10 years ago and more recently my inside elbows. I didn’t grow up eating a lot of refined food and I’ve never knowingly consumed a lot of refined seed oils; though I’m sure I’ve eaten some hidden in the occasional restaurant food indulgence. I also make the occasional sweet “keto” treat using almonds and other nuts, which are high in omega 6 oils. Tightening up my macros to 80/15/5 keto has kept the lipomas from getting bigger, but I can’t really say they have shrunk in proportion to my weight loss.
I have read that lipomas sometimes occur at the location of an injury. The first one I noticed was on an ankle that had been severely injured in my childhood and bears a large disc shaped scar. I have also sprained and fractured my ankles multiple times in my life. So that seems to support the injury hypothesis. More recently I began getting lipomas around the medial epicondyle on both arms. I have suffered from tendinitis off and on in both arms and also had frequent infusions and phlebotomy in those locations. The size and density of each lipoma seems to be relative to the severity and frequency of injury at each location. So it seems the relationship to seed oils may be possible, but it is probably very complex. If your lipomas are near a joint or located next to an old injury, I wonder if that might also be a factor.
Then what's the alternative for seeds/vegetables oils?? Which oil we can use if we want to eat fry food sometimes?

Back in 2016, I started doing intermittent fasting and started eating (as my breakfast - at 12:30) various seeds including sunflower , pumpkin , various berries and quite a lot of different nuts, brazils, walnuts and incl. almonds (which are quite high in Omega 6 so I don't go overboard) - but I eat ZERO SEED *OILS*. The high heat in processing of these oils is a huge part of the problem .
Processed food , and basically all restaurant food, of course, contains a lot. Hence we must minimize eating it. But, yes MOST people STILL cook with these horrendous veg oils as they are CHEAP , and yes they've also been fooled by the media etc.
I am an omnivore pretty much. I never eat Junk food - that was a rule even before I knew about the seed oils. It tasters awful usually anyway. In terms of fats , I only eat saturated fat and a little Olive Oil on salads; I cook with coconut oil and/or butter. I also eat 1-2 table-spoons of coconut oil daily. as its good brain food. I'm in my 60s , my BP is ~110/70, weight 125 lb, resting heart rate is < 60, I take no medications and have no chronic diseases & no arthritis. I swim more or less daily. I take about 2-3 grams of T-R Vit C daily and have done so for over 30 years. Also I am UNVAXXED!. I feel healthy, and I mostly avoid trad doctors and Big Pharma like the plague!😃
Another wonderful presentation!! I have been following Dr Knobbe’s work for years and the link between vegetable oil and most of the serious diseases we face now is incontrovertible. I wish the ‘main stream’ medical community would get on board and see this correlation. His work could literally save hundreds of thousands of lives.

YEah I agree. I only eat beef and sweet fruit and I am skinny fat and the fat is reducing with the more muscle I build. A friend of mine eats a lot of seed oils and refined sugar and he has a lot of visceral fat that is giving him a massive gut.
Fear of vegetable oils has increased my consumption of grass-fed butter and homemade ghee. Both parents were nearly blind from wet macular degeneration before they died (though in their 90s).

The thing about this is, you also have to take into account the more advance detection techniques we have developed as well. While there is certainly a large finger to be pointed at seed oils in our diets, it still needs to be cross referenced and balanced with how much better we are at detecting those things earlier. That being said, even if you cut these numbers by 90%, the fact that they are simply that much more prominent speaks volumes.

Just avoiding seed oils and sugar is most of the battle. Exercise can help accelerate results for any health goal. Just avoiding seeds oils has helped me get more lean. I'm 43 and I never would have thought I would have a flat stomach just by adjusting my diet. Also no more high blood pressure.

Longevity has not been mentioned up to now. People in 1890 didn't live as long as they live now, they died of other illnesses that are not life-style related and not longevity related. That native tribe who ate mostly sweet potatoes and had no diabetes or heart disease or macular degeneration, what average life duration has? Many of our death causes are related to longevity. But (big but here) obesity, non alcoholic liver disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, are seen in a more and more younger people. Life style, and very much diet play a big part. Likely sugar and seed oils are big culprits among other helpers present in processed food.
Most of the increase in longevity is due to reduced premature mortality, ie lower infant mortality, reduced accidents, etc. You may be interested to learn that life expectancy in the USA has been decreasing for the last four years.
Before penicillin, people died from infections. Now people are getting diabetes, fatty liver and even heart disease before middle age.

This wonderful data and analysis and knowing that veg oils are bad, we can never get them off the shelf. This also explains why I see more and more people in Tokyo getting fatter and chronic disease are on the rise. All process food are literally cooked on soybean or corn oil here in Japan. I ordered Chris' book about seed oils. It is interesting that the premise is the correlation between the rise in seed oil use and the rise in chronic disease. The biggest adherents to objecting to seed oils are the very ones who constantly are saying, "Correlation does not equal causation". That is correct, correlation does not equal causation, but that is exactly what this is. I'm not saying Chris is wrong, just that it is based on a correlation.
Whilst carbs by themselves may not be so problematic, it might be a significant problem in a mixed macro diet with large amounts of both carbs and fat.
I haven't touched seed oils for many years. I consider them toxic; high heat treated, processed with chemicals, oxidized before getting in the bottle, often further oxidized when used for cooking, contain aldehydes.

Now the curious part. For about a month I have added some "veggie" oils to my diet.
Olive oil, that should allegedly have been "virgin olive oil". Which is not. 😞

Great Lecture but I do think it is not only seed oils and processed food but a combination of seed oils, processed foods as well as refined carbs and sugar.
I have been wondering about vegetable oil and particularly palm oil. I was at a girls school in England in the fifties/sixties when most of us had 24 inch waists. Girls with a 26 inch waist were a bit chubby! But now! In this century I saw one girl comment on TV that a 24 inch waist was impossible. (Mine was 23 inches when I was 18!)
And what happened in that time? Margarine was one thing. It was cheaper than butter and pushed as being healthy.
I disliked margarine as a kid - turned by stomach. Butter was the opposite.

This is the thing we don't see in other communities. This community is not afraid to say "carbs are not our enemy" despite advocating for a low carb diet.
It is open minded to say, "we know we don't need carbs to survive, but it's ok to consume in moderation and just avoid consuming these types."

I am now 82 years old . When I was a teenager I use to pick vegetables on the farms just north of Portsmouth England. I am now a beekeeper on those same farms and all they grow now is corn. Barely and oil seed rape. I still eat the same foods as I did 70 years ago and still quite active for my age.

All these studies. Common in all the examples of "healthy people" is that they don't over consume and hence are not fat and also have a regular/daily exercise. It has not so much relation with what they eat.

seems to be some association with carnivores beginning to address astigmatisms, which if that is true. will be interesting what advances can be made in that department (as I have been noticing differences in that regard myself).
You will know more than any doctor if you read Dr. Knobbe's first book: Ancestral Dietary Strategy to Prevent and Treat Macular Degeneration. I would live and breathe this book until I'm following every last part of his diet. You have to figure out what and how you can accomplish it. You may find yourself looking for wild caught salmon. Some times of the year you have to find it frozen because it doesn't come fresh all year round. Zero tolerance of seed oils is required. This will mean making your own salad dressing. If you like blue cheese dressing you are in luck! It is very hard to find good tasting mayonnaise without seed oils so there's another place to find and make your own recipe. It all starts with his book!! I would say that this book has the "ophthalmology point of view" you are looking for. Treat yourself to the hard cover version.

This is making more and more sense with the recent discovery that Alzheimer's is actually a type of diabetes.
One major thing about all the indigenous people is that they were all very active. They had to work for food and obviously didnt over eat. In that sense they lived a balanced lifestyle. No balance today, food is beyond easy to get, and the easier the worse. Id like to see a chart showing avg activity levels and health issues, as an additional and important element of comparison. Also one with food availability.

Everyone was thin back when we used lard to cook.
Lard doesn't soak into foods as much, for one thing. But sitting here I think it's easy to see that difference doesn't account for the change. I've always considered the seed oils poison, since I was a kid, just by the look and the feel of them. I didn't need anybody to tell me that. The plastic jugs were bad and I never liked how the oil felt on my skin -- it all seemed like poison to me.
Wow. I would have never expected to see carb and sugar consumption are on the decline from 1960 to now. As I have cut carbs and gotten healthier, I've probably also somewhat unconsciously been cutting vegetable oils. I've been thinking carbs are the devil. You might be onto something!
I think all of us who have made progress with health and weight loss on low carb or carnivore diets may attribute the bulk of our success to cutting all the processed food. I notice now when reading labels how many ingredients are added to everything, but primarily hydrogenated veg oil and sugars. Carnivore and fasting are great for health restoration, but I think a return to a diet with some carbs in the form of fresh fruit and vegetables is in order once a healthy body weight is achieved. I have demonized carbs for too long. But I will never return to processed foods, anything made from wheat, or refined sugars.
Me neither. But those numbers that had come down were percentage of carbs from the eaten calories and number that went up was percentage of seed oils from eaten calories. Even if the relative amount of carb calories comes down, the absolute amount of carbs could still go up if we eat more food than before (Knobbes claimed we eat more food these days). If the absolute amount of eaten carbs exceeds your personal carbohydrate tolerance limit, you start to become insulin resistant and eventually develope type 2 diabetes. So I think it's misleading to say the carb consumption has come down, though the percentage of eaten calories from carbs could have, if his data is correct.

i live in Indonesia...my neigjbours diet: fried everything from breakfast. Oil: palm oil. People die all the time...problem: diabetes, sudden fatal heart attack and strokes. Tell me it has nothing to do with the oil they eat? they eat rice, fish and green leaves...they were meant to be healthy...but they fry everything.

These machine oils, "seed oils," already go rancid during their extraction (which should be a huge red flag), but then, unnatural, industrial antioxidants have to be added to keep this rancidity at bay, to make them shelf-stable. These, plus the omega-6 overload create a recipe for disaster. The data within Dr Knobbe's charts, although not establishing causation (simply because they present correlation, instead), are still highly interesting. We know that too high a level of omega-6 is a major problem, and seeing the effects of its fraud-besotted delivery system laid out so plainly is a great cause for concern.
Another factor which wasnt mentioned is the fact that this high consuming carb indigenous group didnt activate the RANDLE CYCLE.
Amazing. I have seen and heard lots about the damag caused by sugar and seed oil but this presentation was superb and did indeed burn the message into my brain. Sad to say goodby to crunchy crisps and commercial baking but a small price to pay!

Very interesting talk. I've gone full blown carnivore, which has eliminated ALL my problems inflammation, brain fog, knee pain, anxiety etc. and I am losing excess weight at a really good rate towards my ideal weight. However, I was always weary of seed oils previously and avoided them like the plague. So for me, carni and added animal fat and eliminating inflammatory vegetables seems to have provided amazing benefits. However, if the good doctor considers olive oil to be a seed oil too, then yes, I have eliminateed a fairly major seed oil recently. It was the one plant oil I did consume - could that have had a positive effect as well, couple with increased animal fats?
Thank for sharing your experience with olive oil It is not a seed derived but from the fruit and its content is different from seed oils, namely high in monounsaturates.
However, it has been said somewhere in the net that before 1900, it was used for cosmetics and for oil lamps, ingestion began after that.
I believe it is beneficial, but must be kept low so as to not make omega 6 significantly high in your diet.
The problem with olive oil is that the majority of it is actually not olive oil

I wholly blame seed oils for causing my father's death from dementia and Parkinson's. He was a vegetarian who never ate saturated fat and his diet was heavy in processed vegetarian "meat" and cereals.
Its really the combination of carbs and vegetable oils driving the disease epidemic. Goes back to activating the randle cycle which leads to mitochondrial damage
In Ireland in 1964, I never saw an obese person. By 1978, I observed one. Returning from the States in 1997 I saw numerous Irish persons who would be considered obese, and observing the populace until the year 2000 there seemed to be an explosion of obese in the Irish populace. All anecdotal, but I feel from observation there must be a processed food connection, perhaps from a population switching from butter and lard as a dietary fat source to " vegetable oils". Time will tell if this is the problem.

My eyes were opened a while ago to the problem of sugars and how they make you eat more by making you more hungry, more often. But even though I like to cook a lot of things with butter and lard, I was blind to the much greater problem of these oils, which for some dishes I do use a lot of. At the very least I'll be paying more attention to what products these oils are used in.
Butter and lard are not seed oils!

I don't know where your ancestors grew up but most people didn't have a massive list of fruits and vegetables to choose from. The list was extremely limited a hundred years ago.
Seasonal veg and fruit only. Meat and other animal products all year around!
My mother grew up in Finland in the 1930s and 40s. They had a lot of starchy veg but fruits would have been apples and berries for the most part. She remembered when her uncle came to visit and brought all the kids an orange. She was five years old and had her first orange!

Two more factors also need to be correlated- 1.use of pesticides and preservatives
2. Lack of exercise
The most common theme between all the tribes are, lack of automobiles, tv, computers, and mobile smart phones

It's not just about heth with the seed oils at the restaurants, it's the flavour. You make a meal with olive oil or butter, or high fat meat, and the taste is amazing compared to anything cooked in seed oil 🤢

That information is the most important of all. We need to remind people margerine, seed oils etc and most foods are cooked in seed oil !

While I do agree with the main ideas, the first charts are simply manipulative, to put it mildly. You can't compare statistical data from the 19th century with data from 2016. While many diseases might be overrepresented in current statistics due to changes in testing methods and reference values, it is very likely that many diseases were simply not monitored accurately in the 19th century.
No sugar is. Seed oils are a big cause of inflammation but you are much better off cutting sugar out of your life that seed oils. Moral of the story is cut out both.
Say no to donuts etc and you are good 😊
