I've been to Minnesota 3X, but only to the airport. These great videos have made me add a new vacation destination: Duluth - welcome to my bucket list.
Top job video in crap weather! But it's what us enthusiasts endure out there! First day back at work after the long weekend today, and the weather was lovely. Typical! Thanks Alaric 👍
There is no ship named Paul Barker. I think you are accidentally combining the names of the Paul R Tregurtha and the James R Barker, both of which are slightly longer than the Indiana Harbor but have a smaller cargo capacity.
You could almost argue for more with Caterpillar's acquisition of Progressive Rail, the parent company of EMD. I was surprised to hear my favorite 1,000 footer, the Edwin H. Gott was repowered from 2 16 cylinder Enterprise Diesels @ 9,750 BHP to twin 16 cylinder MaK/Caterpillar Marine Diesels @ 9,600 BHP.
It comes from the local geology, the rivers and streams that empty into the lake cut through red clay, and there is a high iron content in the water from the Iron Range runoff.
The word “Majestic” comes to mind.
Thanks for these fascinating videos!

Majestic is a good description.

Awesome bulk tanker, thank you. 😎🚢🚢👍👍👍
One of the thousand footers!
Jerry Adams it’s not a tanker. Bulk carrier. Iron oar, coal, stone.
@@jeffkersbergen5001 Cuánto saber, en este tipo del barco?
These are some very incredible happenings
Wow thats one long ship , brilliant.
1000 feet long (305 meters)
Great view. Nice boat.
One of the thousand footers sailing the great lakes.
I was surprised by the name of this vessel. I was born in Indiana Harbor. East Chicago Indiana
They have another ship called BURNS HARBOR

It's a salute to the bridge operator and/or the people on shore.

Besides the Indiana Harbor and her sister ships like American Century, do you know what other lake freighters are powered by EMDs?
I think the SAM LAUD is.

Nice horn
Are you sure it was coal and not taconite pellets? We mine iron up here, not coal.
They mine this coal out west and rail it here.
Wil Genovese mostly coal for Detroit Edison St Clair Trenton and Monroe
I grew up in Indiana Harbor
Pfiftyone Mustang canada? I did too...
Busy Corners and the Pennz Bar in 1970 I still remember. Deck Hand on the Sykes that summer that was about as far as we could get.
Why is the water so "rusty" looking?
The bottom is mostly red clay so when it is windy it stirs all that up and makes the water reddish brown.
alaricdogface how deep is it from the bottom to the hull of ship
