Watching this mighty ship is so relaxing. It seems like the water is trying it's best to hinder her, but she's just doesn't bothered by it. And that horn blast is absolutely majestic, I'd to love to hear it in person!
Since, the James R. Barker is rocking the Canal. Back in the day, there was a Disco song 🎵named Don't Rock the Boat. The name of the group, that sang the song was the Hughes Corporation. This was in the 1970's, and Disco Dancing 🕺was in.
... it's interesting that a lot of the Great Lake Bulk Carriers are "Home Ported" in Wilmington Del ... I haven't ever seen one here on the Delaware River though ...
What an absolute monstrosity this is! This is a building floating down the water. Take the Empire State and turn it on its side and float it down the canal! The part that always surprises me, the part that I can never get past ... these things float down the water and the water is just seething beneath them, and the boat doesn't even budge. It doesn't rock, it doesn't shake, its unfazed... its just plowing through completely level and not even moving (except the movement of its own power). Ship is like yeah get the fuck out of the way water... mama's coming through! It's not even a ship! It's a moving freaking Island!!! And that whistle? I have never in my life heard any vessel have a whistle as unique as that! Look at how it stays so stable in the water! This thing is a floating island! Look at it! It doesn't even budge. The water is roiling beneath it! And it doesn't budge. Is it any wonder that any Captain of a vessel like this would feel like it were invincible? Hands down, this has to be one of the most badass vessels on the Great Lakes!
It is really rocking the canal. By the way, The Interlake Steamship Co. are the owners of the vessel or it is just constructed by them for their customers?
When the boats go through the channel in these conditions, do they have to throttle up a little or can they just go through dead slow? I'm only asking because I'm looking for vids with these at full speed
All I know is the speed limit in the channel and the harbor is 3 knots. Years ago the waves were coming in over the pier walls and a boat (I think it was the Michipicoten) lined up and punched it to get out. Also I'm uploading the Paul R Tregurtha coming in pretty fast just the other day.
alaricdogface I think I'll start uploading some of my 1st person perspective videos as people seem to really enjoy sailing , I guess when you live it it doesn't seem so appealing...
@RD Genung It seems cool until you work out there. The romanticism fades pretty quick. It's a tough job both mentally and physically. I love Duluth but don't live there. *Edit: whoops, maybe you were asking the uploader...

And you probably never will because they can't fit through the locks to get out on the St Lawrence River.
Sweet.......beautiful movement....ship and water. Thx....
Not bad for a thousand foot long hunk of steel.
im watching this on my laptop with headphones with the volume at 100%. i am now deaf.
Whaaaat?
My favorite horn! 📯
It is an awesome horn!
Every time I watch one of your videos at volume, the neighbor's dog goes berserk. Great action as Big Jim breaks out!
It's a good dog whistle!
That ship makes me so happy! Funny thing to say, but to me, she embodies all that I love about Great Lakes shipping.
Big hunk of iron with a big loud horn!
All ships have that effect on us love to see them when them they come in n out of Duluth /Superior entry
Or the best ship horns on the Great Lakes absolutely awesome
Yes it is.
Love this video! Great job
It's fun when the waves are coming in and a ship is going out.

They say the big ships yaw a little more on Lake Huron because it is fairly shallow.
For those of us who know very little about canals, how deep is it?
I love this horn so much I taped it on my iPhone, then made it a text tone. Hahah. JRB is one cool ship.
That is awesome.
I need to do the same!
Whata voice on that big boy!
Anybody have any idea how deep the canal is at the bridge? Or the harbor? Thanks in advance.
It's around 28 to 32 feet.
Wow, now that's a horn James!!
Indeed!
the horn sounds like a Tibetan mantra followed ba a train
The first is the fog horn, the second is the "port" horn ;-D
It is really rocking the canal. By the way, The Interlake Steamship Co. are the owners of the vessel or it is just constructed by them for their customers?
Interlake is the outright owner and operator of the vessel.
Sounds like someone went to Taco Bell before departing.
Was that what I was smelling?
ive seen ships in boston, but nothing as big as this
These guys never leave the great lakes

@@alaricdogface yes please Big Paul is the best...
Hi, why can I hear the waves, the birds, the people, but not the ship's engine?
The engines are really quiet on some of these ships. Weird since they run on diesel.
She has one of the quietest engines on the lakes I believe
I'm the guy in black up on the officer's deck on the stern!
Obviously.
alaricdogface I think I'll start uploading some of my 1st person perspective videos as people seem to really enjoy sailing , I guess when you live it it doesn't seem so appealing...
You should! There are some videos out there from officers and crew and they are usually quite interesting.
@RD Genung It seems cool until you work out there. The romanticism fades pretty quick. It's a tough job both mentally and physically. I love Duluth but don't live there.

Nice
Thank you 😁👍
looks pretty heavy
Carol Burnett fans: This ship horn reminds me of her lighthouse skit from her show....."Hi Paaaaaaaaaaat! Hi Paaaaaaaaaaaat!"
Now I have to look through my mom's Carol Burnett Show DVDs to see if it's on there.
LOL Sorry!! ;)
Don't be sorry, I'll be watching and laughing the night away!
Donde será ese canal río o mar ?
Duluth Minnesota USA en el Lago Superior
lower the gangway from the starboard side, fuck!!!
This place is cold as fuck,I know, and is windy to,not a great or good place to live.see the ship,OK. TH
But we can swim in the lake in the summer.
