This is the heart of America. We Americans are proud of our GREAT LAKES. Being descended from Mohawks, I am more proud of our land and the expanse of our country.
This just might be one of my new favorites Paul! Not too dark out, not too light, kinda ominous yet kids having a blast and screaming with sheer excitement. The waves and all of the lights on. Yeah, this is beautiful 🙏🏼 Thank you!

Wonderful video. So much different from me watching the cross channel ferries out of Dover in the UK. Worlds apart. Would love to pay a visit to Duluth one day.
nicely done. enjoyed the change of speeds and then turning to see the vastness of the lake as the ship heads out into open water past the light house. thanks!
My mother was born in Floodwood. I will not say how long ago even if she has passed on, for it might give away my age. Lol. My aunt and uncle lived blocks away from the lake for a very long time. It was from there that I was introduced to the lake. I will never forget the first time that I visited the harbor entrance. Finding your channel brings back good memories from a VERY long time ago! Just Saying.
This is a very different view of the ships departing. Very Good I Loved it. Keep up the Great work. Every time I visit Duluth I Always spend time at the Shipping Canal and eat at Grandma's. Great Onion Rings.
I really love these Duluth vids. This one’s just as good, and the kids playing in the spray was a nice touch. May be sailors some day if they love the sea so much. Sooner or later they will know the salty taste of ocean spray. The great lakes collectively are the largest body of fresh water on earth. That lowers maintenance requirements on shipping vessels a whole bunch.
Very cool! Makes me wish I lived near there! I'm an hour from Port Huron and in the Detroit area, so at least I have some great spots to watch the freighters!
Tim Oftedahl I hope they aren’t complicit in getting that racist bigot Ilhan Omar elected for Congress. She is a fraud and should be tried for treason! She’s an embarrassment to Minnesotans
That channel is fairly narrow...a little wind sets up a pretty nice chop, still worth getting a little wet to watch arrivals and departures...but that's what foul weather gear is for.

@@PaulScinocca Yes, Really surprised bro. initially i thought the big ships only sail in seas. But its interesting to see ships in fresh water. I know that some ships sail through amazon river, but i have never seen any videos about it.

Now that's a biggun. Is it just me, or did the water come up a little bit as the ship came through the canal?
GOD I love those BIG HORNS those are the best love those BIG SHIPPING VESSEL To .they are doing what I love to see them do just one time I would like to go to catch a ride with one 😀😎
The water is normally about 12' below the Pier walls. This video was shot at the end of a pretty good storm blowing the water into the harbor causing a large water level change.

Great vid! I was born/raised in Detroit, now live in Cleveland. Love the Great Lakes - watching freighters up in Duluth is on my bucket list. Cheers!
Duluth won't disappoint ya. There's so much to do and see..no matter the season.
Agree, never thought I'd have a big reason to visit Duluth but I need to get up there!

This makes me miss Lake Michigan, and living in The Upper Midwest Great Lakes Region.
Great video. I feel virtually drenched!

my heart rate just went up !!!! those are some scary waters
I have family in Duluth and spent my summers watching the ships come and go. Always love when I can visit with my daughter now

Another great vlog! Thanks for sharing!
That stern wave gets 'em every time. They are always looking the wrong way.
Sometimes they are even warned.....
Always impressed how the crew manoeuvre these huge vessels through the canal without needing a tug/tugs for stability/safety. 👍👍👍👍
Rick Barrie I have 34 + years experience. I think by now I got it. Thanks for watching captain and shift commander LaBonte
The precise maneuvering in such a narrow channel is impressive. You'd think they'd need tugs for that.
Most of the BIG freighters have bow and stern thrusters.⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓
Haulover Inlet for bulk carriers
This is the stuff that made America great. Awesome. Thanks
You bet
Absolutely fantastic video. Wish I was their for making my own video recordings.
The sea was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli.
Lol 😆
Excellent camera location and view
Wow that's some angry water!
THAT’s a big-ass ship!!
Always awesome 🚢
At least it's fresh water ! LOL !
These are actually miniature rogue waves.
3:15 Whoa that angry waves is out of control 😡🌊🌊🌊
The waves look pretty tough!
The lakes have the personality of the oceans

What a superb job well done
Do the Great lakes have tides like in the Ocean?
Technically...no. The bodies of water are not large enough to have a tide on a scale that would count.
@@PaulScinocca thanks.
Awesome!❤
Fantastic waves!
They are!
What waves !

High tide at canal park ? Or is Lake Superior doing a Lake Erie tilt ? Either way great action video ! Thanks !
With a good N.E wind, the water level rises quite a bit. Your Erie tilt is pretty close
@@PaulScinocca I'm in South FL these days where 3' winter tides are the norm except KING Tides which add another foot, sometimes more.
Wjen you see tiny humans. You realise how big the ship is
How deep is the canal?
I'd like to see a shot of this w/ today's high water levels.
How do I now a schedule and where? Iowa area.

Did you have a GoPro that day
When these 1000ers get pitched in heavy seas, what prevents the ship from breaking in half?
Good engineering ? I do know they are designed to flex.
I dare you to swim across ! :)
Not the smartest idea. That water is filthy and not to mention dangerously frigid.
@@everyone5724 not to mention you would be in the lake before made it currents rip through places like that

Please Paul, what do these ships normally carry?
Thank you
Iron ore, coal, limestone, are the most common.
@@PaulScinocca Thank you sir.
Are the waves even doing anything to the ship? (serious question)
Which sea is this?
Lake Superior.
@@PaulScinocca Wow, is this a lake. Looking at the ships, i thought its a sea.

Most likely it is the waves it creates bouncing off the pier walls and the ship, it magnifies the waves a bit.

I think Duluth, Minnesota
