That is a one of your best creations yet Mike! Absolutely gorgeous! Each of your choices were spot on. I enjoyed watching your journey from beginning to end, and your decisions along the way. The transition detail was the perfect addition to highlight the two sections. This is truly an amazing piece of art.
That piece of wood could have become loads of different objects. You do have a good eye for shapes and that has proved it self with this really elegant yet quite rustic vase. Very nice Mike. Would look good in most rooms filled with Flowers. Cheers
One of your more interesting projects. Always enjoy watching your artistic progression with each piece. As you allow the wood to talk to you, you respond with a result that is stunning. Thanks again Mike.
I've noticed that you say "we" and "we are" quite a bit. It's like you are bringing us along on the journey. Thank you for the instructions that you give. Most turning videos are all silent. I like this format much better.
Thanks Stan, thanks so much, this is honestly what I hoped to achieve, I just want everyone to feel they are sat next to me as we take the journey together 😀
Good comment. Exactly my opinion as well. It's important to share your thoughts as you work through problems, as that's the closest thing to doing it yourself as you can achieve in an instructional video. Great stuff. Good fun. Err, had to fix my bad typing. 😊
A thing of beauty, you see shapes in a log that most wouldn't 👌🏽 Do you mind me asking what wipes/rags you use for finishing? Keep up the amazing craftsmanship brother 👊🏽
I was not sure about this piece during the "planning" stages, but wow, you never fail to amaze me. Beautiful grain (of course), but the shape you ended up with is simply breath taking.
Beautiful work. I turned both wood and metal about 60 years ago. Did not realize I missed it until I started binge watching your videos. Keep up the wonderful designs.
This vase is so gorgeous! I love watching you work and the explanations are fantastic. You make me think of my late Father. He was an amateur but in my eyes a master woodworker. It was his passion all of his life along with fishing. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Wow, that’s some piece. That wood deserved to be made into something different and it certainly was. I’m just in love with the beauty of the wood. The grain is amazing.
Good evening Mike. I have returned from France today and, instead of unpacking, decided to catch up with you and I’m pleased I did. It’s a lovely Laburnum vase. Guess who is one of 20 participants who will be attending Yandles for a day for the Pro Comfort launch? Have a lovely weekend with your wife and family 🌞
This a stunning & unusual vase Mike. I applaud, as always, your willingness to explore your piece of wood & 'listen to what the wood is saying to you' rather than just pushing in with some preconceived shape in mind that dictates to you. This is the MAGIC of creativity. The grain in this piece of Laburnum wood is quite amazing & well exploited by your 'sensitive turning' & the finish applied. Your commentary also is excellent & leads the viewer through the project from start to finish so you never want to turn away. Brilliant result my friend. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
Sir, it's a masterpiece of woodturning... a very amazing shape of a magic vase... with absolut stunning greins in.... each view on it will offer other impressions... epic work!!! Chapeau 🎩
I can't get over what a difference that last little detail made to this piece...it really changed the whole design into an optical illusion! Very clever idea, Mike...that's what I like to call a "light bulb moment"!
Hello Mike. Your enthusiasm for Laburnum is really catching. I am now a true convert. But it also helps that you have created something exquisite as well. Have a great week and I am looking forward to more “oohing and ahhing” in the next video.
I wasn't too sure about the "skirt" part way down during the process, but by the end of the turning it does add to the character and uniqueness of the vase. it does look like a Kraken or a chess piece as Amie says, its another successful piece, the grain and chetoyance (how do you spell that word?) are amazing!!! Aww Amie @ Hooche's Smooch........ (a good name for a 60's band 🤔)
I was very glad that you listened to your inner self..... and chose the route that you did to make once again, a truly amazing, unique piece. Keep up the good work.😮😅😊
Wow, that truly is amazing. It’s beautiful. I really do love the way you’ve done that with the emerging form out of the middle. The fantastic grain on this piece really just finish it off perfectly..
As usual a totally fascinating work. That wood is stunning with all the waves and eyes in it. And your way of using the shape of the piece of wood to create something very different and beautiful is just amazing. 😊
At first I thought your crazy to attempt to work with such an un balanced peace of lumber. But you worked it so beautifully. You actually could see your thoughts each step of the way. The real talent is making it look so easy. Great work
This is beautiful. I always love seeing the wood taking shape in your hands. You seem to just know where the best grain and figure is in the wood. I was a bit disappointed you took off the bark at first but you proved it was the right choice once again!
Thanks Mike for yet another informative and enlightening video. After viewing one of your earlier Laburnum pieces, I completely understand the appeal of the grain and am really keen to get hold of some more Laburnum as soon as I can. Keep up the great work.
Hi Mike, I did not think this was going to work, then what do I know. You proved me wrong and designed a very beautifully Vase with a really distinct attitude which Laburnum has. Thanks, till next time.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Mike, what a uniquely shaped laburnum crotch piece. I like the idea that you went with when turning out the vase, it really adds to the overall uniqueness of the piece instead of just being a straight body vase. As usual the grain patterns of the laburnum do not disappoint! Great job! Cheers mate! 😎
I love watching your videos. Truly its watching a master at his craft. I wish I could comment on every video but unfortunately I am watching them on my Fire Stick. My favorite part is how your human and change your mind an figure out how it going to turn out as you go, and we get to here that, its not just another turning video that puts you to sleep.
Seattle Kraken, our pro hockey team... Stunningly gorgeous! That's by far the most amazing wood grain I've ever seen! Wow! Love what you came up with for the shape.😊❤😊
That detail adding to the illusion, brilliant! I kept thinking a vase within a vase. Then you brought it home with that detail! Very well done, and beautiful result! Cheers 🥂 Joe CA
Beautiful Vase Mike! Love the shape that it ended up as. Also love the grain how it turned out with just a shellac finish. Keep the videos coming. Cheers
OMGOODNESS! What spectacular woodgrain! The first thing that came to mind during the rough in phase was a Lotus flower. However, after you finished, to me it looked more like a Calla Lilly. Stunning piece!❤
This was a surprise I’ve never seen this type of wood I was really intrigued by the flute shape and how you were going to tackle it Thankyou for sharing
What an amazing piece. Definitely the right choice to remove the bark from the top section, that plus the groove really adds to the illusion of two different vases.
Somehow I clicked in partway through and thought what turned out to be the top was the bottom and you were making a huge chess piece. I definitely see why you love this wood so much. The grain is just fantastic! I like the end shape a lot, and I think removing the bark for a natural edge vs a live edge worked better for this piece. LOVE it!
The jigsaw moment was a worry, but it worked! I love the vase and agree, it's definitely a kraken when on it's side, but an elegant and intriguing vase when upright. I think the line separating the two sections was a great move. Love it
I think it's a piece that begs to touched because of the grain and the design juxaposing curves and lines. It reminds me of the stem of Fly Agaric mushrooms, or how the inner leaves of leeks concertina out. It's sensual and naturalistivs. I'm sure it would look lovely with tall spear-like flowers to exploit it's upwardly flowing lines. Nice job there, Mike. You should do more vases.
Well done the whole thing works well. As most of us will know artistic flare doesn’t always work out how you would like. It’s a definite keeper👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Hi mike , what a brilliant piece of turning I loved it, I've turned some laburnum my self it's hard work but what you get at the end is well worth .i think it might be my favourite wood I've used up to now .anyway keep turning so we can all see the brilliant work you do 🔨🔨🌳🌳👍👍
Safety first…glad you waited till you got the bigger bits…love your vision…the irregular edges on the upper section and the decision to put the groove in to complete the illusion 🤌🏻😙…the grain is magnificent…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Wow, thank you very much! I love starting to turn something with no idea how it will end up 😀
That piece of wood could have become loads of different objects. You do have a good eye for shapes and that has proved it self with this really elegant yet quite rustic vase. Very nice Mike. Would look good in most rooms filled with Flowers. Cheers
Thanks Peter, loved turning this one and very happy with the way it turned out 😀
One of your more interesting projects. Always enjoy watching your artistic progression with each piece. As you allow the wood to talk to you, you respond with a result that is stunning. Thanks again Mike.
Thank you very much Wes, I love starting something with no idea how it will look at the end 😀

@@ethantodd4400 Thanks Ethan, sure they are basically white tissue, just like kitchen roll 😀
I was not sure about this piece during the "planning" stages, but wow, you never fail to amaze me. Beautiful grain (of course), but the shape you ended up with is simply breath taking.
Thanks so much Wes, this type of shape has to be uncovered lol 😀
I could listen to you talk all day. The wood turning is just a bonus! So talented, this is so beautiful!
Thank you so much 😀
Beautiful work. I turned both wood and metal about 60 years ago. Did not realize I missed it until I started binge watching your videos. Keep up the wonderful designs.
Thanks Linda, I put a piece of aluminium on my lathe a couple of years ago, good fun lol 😀
This vase is so gorgeous! I love watching you work and the explanations are fantastic. You make me think of my late Father. He was an amateur but in my eyes a master woodworker. It was his passion all of his life along with fishing. Thank you! 🙏🏼
Thanks so much I really appreciate that!! All the best, Mike 😀
It is absolutely gorgeous! It does look like a mushroom with its cap gone. I love it!
Wow yes it does, thanks Kersti 😀
Wow, that’s some piece. That wood deserved to be made into something different and it certainly was. I’m just in love with the beauty of the wood. The grain is amazing.
For some reason the opening seemed to be saying "FEED ME!". But then I always adored Audrey 2. Beautiful figuring too.
Haha thanks Bruce 😀

Sir, it's a masterpiece of woodturning... a very amazing shape of a magic vase... with absolut stunning greins in.... each view on it will offer other impressions... epic work!!!
Chapeau 🎩
Thank you so much, I really enjoyed this one, it's liberating to start a project with no real idea how it will end 😀
The grain is just gorgeous, well done. I do appreciate the clear way you explain both what you're thinking and what you're doing.
Thank you very much Rhiannon 😀
Another stunning piece! The little detail groove really sells the illusion.
Thank you very much 😀
I loved watching you discover what your vase will become. Thank you.
Thank you so much Joan ☺️
I can't get over what a difference that last little detail made to this piece...it really changed the whole design into an optical illusion! Very clever idea, Mike...that's what I like to call a "light bulb moment"!
I totally agree Kate, it was a nerve wracking cut but we did it 😀
Hello Mike. Your enthusiasm for Laburnum is really catching. I am now a true convert. But it also helps that you have created something exquisite as well. Have a great week and I am looking forward to more “oohing and ahhing” in the next video.
Thanks so much Angela same to you 😊

Listening to your gut is really paying off lately. Absolutely beautiful. Just wonderful.
Thanks Dawn, I've decided just to go with it lol 😀
You are awesome and your work is more so! I admire anyone who can visualize something ‘perhaps’ ugly from nature and bring out its beauty! Thank you!
Wow, thanks so much 🙏
I wasn't too sure about the "skirt" part way down during the process, but by the end of the turning it does add to the character and uniqueness of the vase. it does look like a Kraken or a chess piece as Amie says, its another successful piece, the grain and chetoyance (how do you spell that word?) are amazing!!! Haha thanks Caz, it's chatoyance 😀 also I think I have a couple of LPs from Hooche's Smooch 😂
He he

At first I thought your crazy to attempt to work with such an un balanced peace of lumber.
But you worked it so beautifully.
You actually could see your thoughts each step of the way.
The real talent is making it look so easy.
Great work
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it 😀
I love this Mike you made all the right decisions

The finished piece reminds me sooo much of an orchid sheath as it's beginning to bloom! Beautiful!
Thanks! I agree it does 😀
Another fine piece with my favorite wood! The grain is stunning as usual! Very interesting shape!
Glad you like it Stan 😀
This is beautiful. I always love seeing the wood taking shape in your hands. You seem to just know where the best grain and figure is in the wood. I was a bit disappointed you took off the bark at first but you proved it was the right choice once again!
Thank you so much Nikkie😀
Super piece of work, Mike. Absolutely stunning.
Thank you. Rob.
Thanks so much Rob 😀
Thanks Mike for yet another informative and enlightening video. After viewing one of your earlier Laburnum pieces, I completely understand the appeal of the grain and am really keen to get hold of some more Laburnum as soon as I can. Keep up the great work.

Absolutely stunning piece, Mike. Even considering the time it took, as you say, Laburnum never disappoints.
Thanks Colin, this wood is always worth the effort 😁
Absolutely stunning Mike! Every time you work with Laburnum I get an itch to cut down the tree I have in my garden.
Haha part of me is saying just do it 😜
Hi Mike, I did not think this was going to work, then what do I know. You proved me wrong and designed a very beautifully Vase with a really distinct attitude which Laburnum has. Thanks, till next time.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks Roy, I love starting a piece not knowing how it will end up 😀

OMGOODNESS! What spectacular woodgrain! The first thing that came to mind during the rough in phase was a Lotus flower. However, after you finished, to me it looked more like a Calla Lilly. Stunning piece!❤
Thanks so much Rosanna 😀
This was a surprise
I’ve never seen this type of wood
I was really intrigued by the flute shape and how you were going to tackle it
Thankyou for sharing
You're welcome Val and thanks 😀
What a work of art, I like it very much. I 've probably said this before but I'll say it again, you are a very talented person!

Thanks Damian 😀
Very nice the grain in the wood really stands out, a very pretty piece of art.
Thanks David 😀

This piece is magnificent and so refreshing to have all natural wood, no acrylic.
Thanks so much Carolyn 😀
Spectacular result, a work of art.
So kind, thank you 😀
Somehow I clicked in partway through and thought what turned out to be the top was the bottom and you were making a huge chess piece.
I definitely see why you love this wood so much. The grain is just fantastic! I like the end shape a lot, and I think removing the bark for a natural edge vs a live edge worked better for this piece. LOVE it!
Thanks so much Susan 😀
Beautiful work Mike. Great design on the piece. Thanks.
Thanks Paul 😀
The jigsaw moment was a worry, but it worked! I love the vase and agree, it's definitely a kraken when on it's side, but an elegant and intriguing vase when upright. I think the line separating the two sections was a great move. Love it
Thanks Rachel, this was a whole lot of fun, especially the 90 minutes of sanding! 😀
Yet again you head a direction I'm not comortable with and produce a stunning piece, nice one Mike ;]
Thanks, I did have my doubts as well lol 😀
I think it's a piece that begs to touched because of the grain and the design juxaposing curves and lines. It reminds me of the stem of Fly Agaric mushrooms, or how the inner leaves of leeks concertina out. It's sensual and naturalistivs. I'm sure it would look lovely with tall spear-like flowers to exploit it's upwardly flowing lines. Nice job there, Mike. You should do more vases.
Thanks so much, I do intend to do more 😀
Another great piece, with a vastly different look. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much Simon 😀
Simply a gorgeous work of art......as always Mike fantastic job
So kind David, thanks 😀

Other strange idea that turned out amazing! I would love to be as creative as you are. Great job yet again!
Thank you Matt, I'm just lucky😊
Lovely wood, lovely vase Mike. I have a very similar piece of Laburnum and I thought of halving it for two deep bowls, now I am in a quandary.
Hi Colin, to be honest I nearly did that with this one as I was scared the vase may be beyond my ability and tools lol
Hi mike , what a brilliant piece of turning I loved it, I've turned some laburnum my self it's hard work but what you get at the end is well worth .i think it might be my favourite wood I've used up to now .anyway keep turning so we can all see the brilliant work you do 🔨🔨🌳🌳👍👍
Thanks so much Dave, it's just about my favourite as well 😀
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
That piece turned out great. Thank you for another interesting video.
You're welcome Stu 😀
Safety first…glad you waited till you got the bigger bits…love your vision…the irregular edges on the upper section and the decision to put the groove in to complete the illusion 🤌🏻😙…the grain is magnificent…👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Loraine 😀
Yet another unique beautiful piece of art!
Thanks Kathleen, you are so kind 😀
Beautiful vase! Like listening to your thought process. As a new turner this helps me a lot.
Glad it was helpful Chris 😄
