  • It took some time to get out and get some drivetime on the Traxxas X-Maxx with WideMaxx conversion (found here: snp.link/330e0cb5) but it finally happened. This truck has been a blast to take out in wheel in stock form, but how did it fare with the WideMaxx kit on it. Is the suspension upgrade really worth it for a stock out of the box truck like our Solar Flare Edition? In this video Greg will give you a quick recap of the X-Maxx as it worked its way through the RC Driver workshop and then takes it out for a drive with the WideMaxx kit and gives you his impressions of how the truck feels as he drives it. You’ll want to hear the wrap-up on this video for sure!

    I have two 8S X-MAXX trucks, one box stock and the other with the wide suspension kit. The wide suspension kit is cool, it looks great, but the stock suspension works so well, that I won't add the wide suspension kit on the 2nd 8S X-MAXX.
    Great review and my hat is off to you Greg for laying down an honest review ! 👍🏻

If you want the wide max kit on there probably just get yourself an XRT haha I like the X-Max myself tho I have the original 6S version I bought a long time ago but it's just so big I bully everybody else I drive with so I just drive my slash 4X4 & rustler 2WD.

    Even in stock form I always go to a 2085x servo and a adjustable hot racing steering servo saver assembly. Those two items make a xmaxx steer like a dream. Definitely a must have if you go to a widemaxx kit. If the factory servo saver was better and the factory servo was metal gear i doubt you’d even need a servo upgrade. But after a few packs ran through a new xmaxx the stock servo saver spring gets weak enough to really hinder your turning ability.

    • @thedeadlee690
      @thedeadlee690 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the stock servo saver you can use a longer screw with a locknut on the end and it keeps the servo saver tight. Otherwise like you mentioned it loosens up over time.

    I have had good luck with Traxxas black springs, losi 60wt oil, if you set the rear of the truck 3mm higher than the front you get more steering and the back end slides just a bit like a stock Xmaxx. Great video.

Less rolling in tight turns but still wild and crazy if you want it to. I compare it to a Great Dane puppy. I do agree on steering, I'm upgrading my servo atm, though the stock servo isn't the best.

  • @tmothymartin7784

    First thing i look at is servo saver spring. more than likely the weak stock spring didn't like your tire change. Traxxas make a stronger one. The other is did you put the upper a frame in the high inside hole on the front if not that do it also. Been there done that. Just my 2 cents.

    Putting the Wide Max Kit on my " DuneMaxx " as I like to call it, has been one of the Best upgrades I have done to her!
    I have a Full Sensored Castle System, 56mm 1100Kv Motor and XLX2 ESC and the Full Suit of M2C Bracing motor Mounts, rail brace, hubs the Whole Deal and the Jumps I do in the Dunes with the DuneMaxx are as Big and bigger than what you see most Crusty Demons do on MX Bikes.
    That being said, whilst I can do Similar types of Jumps with my Normal Xmaxx, I can not do the same as what she does as the Stability & power of course are simply Not there.
    The Approach speed required to clear some of the Dunes I do is around the 100km mark and just trying to do that speed with the Xmaxx gets it all Squirlly and unsettled and when the trigger is Squeezed Flat, most of time ends up crashing! Something I Never get from my DuneMaxx as it is so Steady and Balanced it is akin to a full sized Vehicle.
    Been Nothing but a Massive improvement and I can't say a Bad word about it. I have Never experienced any dramas at all with steering but I have this
    www.promodeler.com/DS1885BLDP
    in my DuneMaxx so probably not a great example for the average Punter who just wants to pull out the Xmaxx and blast her Bogstock without any mods at all. Which I completely understand, It's Definately Not for Everyone.
    All that being said, I have the Current Best 5th Scale RC of All Major Brands and Can honestly say that the Xmaxx in All Forms is Top of the Pops!

    The widemaxx kit saved my Xmaxx from being sold, I was not a fan of the constant tipping-over part, so I love the kit! Original steering is always going to be crap, even worse if you put new tires on with more friction.
    Replace the horn, and rod with aluminum, and the stronger spring. Changing the servo is also preferable, neither of Traxxas' opinions is going to be strong, do 3rd party.
    This is only expensive if you're a Traxxas purist, buy gpm alu parts and a 40$ servo will be just fine. But no more will the steering suck balls.

    • @overdosed51
      @overdosed51 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I disagree on the cheap servo part. I couldn't keep the 50$ 45kg servos in my xmaxx. I had to bite the bullet and go with a perfect pass monster. That and a new adjustment servo saver completely CHANGED my xmaxx

    For just bashing I like the way it is in factory form, now I had trouble with my electronics, and ended up putting in a hobby wing set up the big hobby wing 5 and the motor to boot, changed everything to much power, I don't send my rigs to the moon, I'm on a budget and well I bought the xmaxx when I could not afford it, so I had fun with it but no upgrades were needed till I had to replace the power plants, etc, motor, combo.
    All this wide this and wide that, everyone is saying the same thing great stability but worse steering, I kind of wonder if Traxxas saw this as a way to make extra money while fixing stability, after all, if u run a restaurant u pay ur bills and set ur budget off the little things, ham , eggs, and say coffee, because you sell more of these items, you don't set ur budget off steak and eggs, as u don't sell as much of that dish, so I have to wonder, was this wide kit, a good fix? Is it an upgrade to sell more smaller items?
    I find it to be a fascinating conversation.

    I think if you want a great basher with great stability, you're probably better off with the Sledge from what I've seen. Sure the X-Maxx is a huge RC with a lot of wow factor, but I don't think it was ever really intended for high speed cornering. I would probably keep it stock if it's going to put that much extra strain on the servo.

    It's marketing they want more money and I'm not their fool. I always kept traxxas cars stock loving the vellenium system and running the he'll out of it,if it was that good it would be stock wide out the boxx,ima use the stock package also

  • @lennchadful

    the widemaxx change is useless imo. the other tweaks you need to make in order for the truck to be fun again isn't worth it. just leave it stock, change your ride height, change your shock fluid a little and it wont roll

    Nope. I prefer the XMaxx stock, I like how nimble it is.. if you want a bad turning radius buy a Arrma. I know I own the Kraton 8s to and that thing needs a parking lot to turn.

    Hello my brother, I notice with the wide XMAXX kit it look very stable because of its width it does not roll over as much , because if you notice on all the arrama trucks they all have wide stance makes very stable thanks your friendly neighborhood Doorman william from NJ Forgettaboutit lol 😆

    Typically a stock person. I think all the accessories tend to make things better in some ways worse than others. The wide kit was mandatory for the Maxx...but that one is still miserable to drive.

    Hi I love it looks amazing with the wide stance, thats why all the arrama trucks handle so well is because they have wide A arms all there trucks gave a wide stance . On the other hand, enter the XRT now we're talking true performance that truck is amazing the handling is unmatched. I would not be surprised if they start a XRT racing class on a track . Thanks your friendly neighborhood Doorman william from NYC forgettaboutit 👊 😀
