We're not making a lot (money wise), but we compensate this with positive energy and positive emotions we're getting from you guys! Thank you for being a great customer!! - RC Street Shop team.
Just got one for my birthday today! What an absolute beast... I think the stock tires are okay, NOT GREAT but serviceable. I probably won't change the tires until the stock wear out, then..... badlands.... My stock servo is okay too, can turn the tires on carpet no problem, but I will likely buy the steel geared servo and have it on hand for when mine eventually strips.
VERY detailed and informative video, cool to see that the honest hobby guy still lives !! Would love to come by your shop on my next trip to the states, greetings from Denmark :)
I bought a Used Xmaxx 8S. It had all of these upgrades already done lol. 2085X servo, RPM rear hubs, and pro-line badlands beadlock wheels, CEN captured hinge pins, Upgraded steering spring and linkage. I have the stock A-Arms still, I have a HP racing spool in the rear end for a live axle, and a HP racing hardened steel spur gear. I love it though!! Super reliable. I get to enjoy all of the advantages of the upgrades that were already pre-installed! Because my truck “Never breaks” It’s super reliable!!
I finally bought a brand new Xmaxx 8s yesterday. The very first time out, within the first 10 minutes, the rear passenger side shock cap broke. Then I noticed the inside bearing was all apart on the same rear passenger side. I replaced all corners with rpm uprights with the bigger bearings
In addition to your situation, I have noticed if the ESC is used heavily, it can and will thermal shutdown. a solution to that would be to aim two small fans at the ESC to the left and right of it, that cures that problem. Also the Spur and Pinion are inadequate, the pot metal has exploded on me twice under the high speed gear combo. Replace with hardened steel and you will end up with a much more durable drive train. Also have replaced both front and rear diff cases with the aluminum case from the torque biasing center diff. I haven't broken anything in the suspension, but i find the drive train of this truck to be very fragile.
And a hot ra CD ring spur with a tekno pinion that comes with a 2.5 mm grub to give more torque and the grub is flat on bottom so it will stay in place and stop backing off.
Great video, just registered with your website. Thank you for all details, I'm sure I'll be inquiring more info/suggestions in the future. As my son and I are new owners to this beast!!!! 15 min into playing with it, we broke the the rear axle carrier and the bulkhead front lower. Cul de sac (IS NOT!!!) a big enough area to play/learn the ins and outs of this monster....lol
Thank you. We've tested and broke a lot of X-Maxx upgrades to make this video and it is totally possible to add something else to the list, but if the goal is performance, then just these 5 would be a great improve.
STEVO D 313 with this truck if you use a little Common Sense the truck doesn't not need any upgrades I have a Traxxas that's 10 or 15 years old and I've kept it clean kept it out of the water just short. jumps and it's still going strong
After running my xmaxx 8s a few battery packs I've broken the front bumper and rear axle carriers (replaced with RPM ones). I also blew a tire despite my effort to vent them. Thanks.
@@jordanfrye1280 Try the DuraTrax lockups x 24mm belted tires. They are $50 for two or $100 for a set. They are the cheapest and best tire for the xmaxx so far that I have tested running 20/50 gearing. You just have to keep an eye on them becoming unglued. Reglue them and bash on!
The parts needed for the SRR are 109 c hubs and upper suspension arms. 60-88 spindles. A must. Gpm aluminum servo saver bell crank and aluminum servo saver mount 50, 1/5 servo mount 55, 1/5 scale servo 50-100. Upper link mount 40 and the rear bearing carrier 50+. Then you break the axle housing or lower control arms or front shock tower. All those are limited to one maker running 88 for the cheapest part. So so glade I traded it for an x maxx before I got in the hole.
I approve of the RPM rear knuckles and badlands tires. One thing I would add is HARDENED steel motor gear and spur gears! Espically if you upgrade the motor like i did with the 1460KV TP Motor, Max5 ESC. I personally went with the savox 1210 servo because it has 444oz of power and it’s Savox! I never trust Traxxas.

Also, I wen't to the RPM site and it says that the bearings are not a replacement for stock Traxxas Axle Carriers. So, does that mean that we need to change that carrier to fit the new bearings? Sorry, I am a newbie and just getting in to the hobby.
Yes, RPM uprights rcstreetshop.com/rpm/6689-rpm-oversized-rear-axle-carriers-traxxas-x-maxx.html they come with oversized ball bearing, so you change both with this kit....a must have upgrade
I am picking up the xmcxx 8s tomorrow do you have any videos on these upgrades and more I'm new but really like the hobby I'm just a hands on person just looking directions sometimes confusing I would really appriciate it have blessed day.
The stock arms are amazingly stout, I don't believe that is a must for upgrading... I've had more issues with the front shock tower getting bent after lawn darting but have wrapped all the "tubes" with silicone tape which has helped in allowing things to take more shock before giving up ;)

Good vid mate, I agree with the upgrades featured mines 8s from stock, Gearing has been an issue on mine, ESC replaced and now the motor has burned out, It is an expensive truck to start with, Batteries have failed yeah and servo too, Love my BEAST no matter what. RC maniacs body shell is a must too!
RC Street Shop just got a xmax last week after 10mins run was making a bearing noise just checked the rear hub after watching your video a there it was the inside bearing just ordered new rpm hubs Thanks
Do you know if they make a tougher alternative for the 7720 part on an 8S? Mine broke and it was a pain in the butt to replace. It seems like that should be a stiffer aluminum piece. And, it’s pretty important for the truck.
It should be flexing, this is why it was made it out of plastic, aluminum would cause something else to break plus truck will be much heavier (more inertia etc)
I’m a little bit late saying this, but the tires are great if your doing off-road speed runs or driving in all terrain, but if your a basher then these tires aren’t for you there very heavy and can put stress on lots of other parts and your electronics, it also ways it down more that the stock tires
Watched this vid again and not sure if you knew that thay tried to get away with still having the 6s rated tires on it?. My first set they replaced the rear since I sent a pic of about 2-3" without any adhesive noticed as my tire was coming over the bead. I went ahead and bought the second pair. Thought that was fair. Was not gonna ask them to replace them all since the front ones had not come apart yet. And they stayed in the air more. Lol.
@@Rcstreetshop I wasn't talking about suspension I meant you said the hot racing servo saver spring is too hard can you take the stock xmaxx servo saver spring and use it with the hot racing servo saver? I just ordered this so I'm trying to figure out the easiest solution. Thanks 👍
Is it true that the RPM inner bearing in the carriers don't ship with the proper grease? I saw a video where the guy said the instructions had him remove the seals and grease them.
Sorry Noah, we're working on synchronizing our current inventory with online store, but we're are shorthanded right now. If you have a moment to give us a call, we'll take your order over the phone (we have these and other items in stock 90% of the time).
First let me say great video. Just got my Xmaxx the other day and already blew a tire. Looking at getting the badlands tires but I am concerned now about the weight. Is the stock motor and esc going to be able to handle this much more weight? I don’t want to burn up the esc or motor. Going to put in and order here soon but there are so many conflicting forum posts.
SAD HOW U SAY ITS AN."EXPENSIVE" RC TRUCK only to end up replacing or upgrading every part that matters. Down to the esc. Im a new owner of an 8s xmaxx and not even 5hr total run time and my esc went bad. Into my 3rd set of diff gears both front and back. Spent more for the spiral cut gears that didnt last long. Cant wait for Arrma to get with the large scale band wagon.
Yes, with 5 scale cars everything is very different in terms of how loads, torques etc are applied. Power to weight ratio is different form regular 1/10 scale
@@Rcstreetshop im finding that out. Also what I just figured out is that its not the components that are bad but rather a design flaw. The engineers got this one wrong and why they havent fixed it is beyond me.
How so you ask? Well, they tuck the heat sensitive esc in a trench surrounded by all this heat source. Behind it is the motor, in front are the metal gears and on both sides are the 4s batteries. All generating enough heat to hurt the esc and eventually causw a short circuit. Untop of that is a body that traps all that heat in. A simple remedy is to lift the esc up a few inches and get cool air circulating around it. Once I did that and my esc works like a dream. No more error codes and play all day long. 🤙🤙
It would be cool, 2.0 is a car that, with the right upgrades, is pretty cool. The worst for me is the rear suspension. I tried everything until I remembered a carbon fiber surfboard kit ... I even made a video about it, look: th-cam.com/video/grQ-GZXVUwc/w-d-xo.html
Hello thanks for great video, I just recently got a 8S X-maxx and was wondering if I also need to upgrade the rear hub uprights or are they already better than the 6S X-maxx was stock. I don't jump my X-maxx we race them on a 8 turn off road track. As well, what do I need to buy for the steering system?
As everybody plays differently (speeds, skills etc), we advocate buying/replacing parts only after breaking them. Changing stock steering servo to aftermarket, should address 90% of all steering issues one may have.
Great info , I have been tryin to tell everyone I know about the cen hinge pins and how important they are ..And the tires as well I want the trenchers but so dam expensive so I stick with the stock 8s and they are really durable but u have to keep them on the dirt .. I would to visit ur store do u have a website ????
We do www.rcstreetshop.com (check links in the description). We do not have everything listed on it, as at the moment we're focused on our brick and mortar store (we have over 10K pieces of inventory in stock). Is that tire set up good to run on a stock motor? And thanks for the info super helpful
Yes, it increases traction, but stock 8S motor will handle it.
Lol.
Good Video!
Thank you for your comment Meharvan!
I love the snap-on body it's so cool...looks awesome...would you be interested in selling it?? Great channel 👍
Can you fit a weaker spring or the 2085x spring in the hot racing steering assembly you said the spring is too strong?
Yes, this is one of the ways to adjust suspension (another way is to change oil).
It would be nice for you to stock some of these items.. thanks for the video
@ rcsuperstore...Are these upgrades from 2018 still relevant on the 2020 model? Does the new model negate any of these upgrades??
This is exactly how you do it. This is RC aka hobby foe DIY'ers,n high five for figuring it out!
I just want to drive the truck and not work on it every 15 mins with runs to the parts store or waiting for parts in the mail.
Great video, you forgot the pinion and spur gear ⚙️ upgrade
Thanks for the tip! 👍👍👍
RC Street Shop 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video, thanks!
Would you have such a video for E-revo 2.0?
By the way, nice place you use your x-maxx!
Thank you for the comment. We are a little bit shorthanded at the moment, but we'll try to make the same video for Revo 2.0
It would be cool, 2.0 is a car that, with the right upgrades, is pretty cool.
The worst for me is the rear suspension. I tried everything until I remembered a carbon fiber surfboard kit ...
I even made a video about it, look:
th-cam.com/video/grQ-GZXVUwc/w-d-xo.html
I have seen stock a arms bent from the landings.
This is why we recommend RPM
Hello thanks for great video, I just recently got a 8S X-maxx and was wondering if I also need to upgrade the rear hub uprights or are they already better than the 6S X-maxx was stock. I don't jump my X-maxx we race them on a 8 turn off road track. As well, what do I need to buy for the steering system?
As everybody plays differently (speeds, skills etc), we advocate buying/replacing parts only after breaking them. Changing stock steering servo to aftermarket, should address 90% of all steering issues one may have.
TH-cam is telling my safety (passwords, etc) is at risk when I click on the high torque steering servo link in your description!
Oh, wow! Thanks for letting us know, we will address this with our IT guy...
Dude that body fire af though link?
It would be cool to servo upgrade video
Servo upgrade improves feedback quite a bit.
Can you please make a how to video I am still learning how to work on my own cars an how to get comfortable
Thank you for you comment, we will definitely make a few for X-maxx!
Awesome video brother..getting mine Saturday..in terms of ordering from you, have you been affected by the fires?
Yes and No....we had some delays earlier this week / we lost some packages, but now everything is OK👍
I can’t find the power up kit on the Traxxas web site anymore did they get rid of it or change the part number anyone know
It was a promo....give us a call (562-425-9000) we may help with this
RC Street Shop I figured it out thanks for getting back to me
What about the rpm hinge pins?
What do you recommend Traxxas replacement servo or savox servo 1210sg with adapter.
Definitely Savox.
If you happen to need anything, just dial in 5620425-9000 or stop by our store in Long Beach.
Does anyone know of any offset wheels for the x maxx? Or anyways to make the truck a bit wider?? Thanks for any suggestions.
What gearing have you been running on this truck
Just bought one and can't believe how well this truck holds up. I watched this and it was very informative. Keep up the good work.
I also have an arrma outcast and was looking for some upgrades I can do that truck. Do you have a video on that truck yet or not? Thanks
Unfortunately we don't, but we will add it to the list. Thanks for the comment and good luck with X-Maxx! Have fun!😎
Hey. What’s a good tool set to own that I can get from Home Depot or order for my x maxx? One that can do pretty much everything?
Hi sir I was wondering what gearing would I use and or any other changes to drive my xmax over water with the Pro-Line paddle Wheels
Stock with 8S would hydroplane as if there is no water.
winnrscircle buy an RC boat trucks aren't meant to run on water but a lot of stupid people do that
Great video👍🏽 I've been to your shop & got excellent customer service! Question: where is that track you were bashing at? I'm running out of places to bash in the Los Angeles area. Thanks👍🏽
Thank you for your comment and for giving us a visit!
Give us a call 562-425-9000 talk to Roger, he knows places:) he tested almost every skatepark in LA county LOL
