Same man, I don't know what's more insulting, the fact that they made us wait so long for this crap, or the fact that they tried to make Battlefield a COD game.
I remember buying 1942 as a boxed game (With a cool flipped-cover box trying to advertise how wild it was that you could not only shoot but drive entire battleships), and have played more cumulative Battlefield than I can count, but skipped V (for obvious reasons) and then refunded this one after making the mistake of trying it. The development talent is long gone, and now only EA product managers’ decision making and mediocre developers remain.
Agreed, Bad Company 2 was a goddamn revelation in sounddesign, it blew me away back then. 3 Was great in locating the sound source, but the adrenaline rush of BC2 was unparalleled
As an UI / Interface Designer myself, I can wholeheartedly agree. However the Designer himself usually does not have the last say in his concepts - that's the Art Director, or even higher position, etc. This Game seems to have a serious/fundamental management problem.
I’m right there with you. As designers we can create all the mocks/wireframes prototypes we want, but at the end of the day. Design lead/senior designer etc. or any other outside team can have influence on the final decisions being made.

They are true developers that R E F U S E to release a game under par. People might bitch about the mechanics and difficulty and whatnot. But one thing can be agreed. They dont release shitty games. About one of the very very, dwindling, very few devs left that actually give an entire fuck about their game. I think Joe will eat that game right up and should use it as a basis for how other devs should release their game.
@@zelestial1681 truth be told there are still developers out there that do a good job when it comes to creative content and quality driven. The down side is, the folks who are responsible for good content, are either ex devs or experienced ones from big studios that probably saw where the studio was going and they bailed out in time (most of them) and started their own studios. Or indie developers, the ones who do not have capital to actually develop a fully fledged medium sized to big studio. Once those people left their places, obviously the less creative, less passionate, less driven by quality folks took their places. And the only passion they have is literally to make money. And that is it. As an ex dev I can assure you that the video game developing world is poised/plagued with different types of different shapes and sizes of bad. Bad management, bad shareholding and decision making, bad or poor overall vision and perspective, bad leadership even when it comes to creative content and direction at micro and macro level. @@zelestial1681 well, the death of beauty, art, ingenuity and innovation in this sense. Because we are depicting video games as artistic works "per ansamble" and what we actually deal with is capitalization and profit here. Like I was talking to somebody else in the comment sections of other videos of Angry Joe, at some point. In order to make substantial profit and be able to innovate you must let the minds that deal with creating express themselves as unhinged as possible. So that your economic income comes, even at a later stage. In the world of capitalism and economic capital, is very hard to be able to materialize innovation and revolutionzing in a certain aspect when it comes to value and quality. During our days, we are sadly the outcome and we are driven by profits and we are in slave of profits compared to actual innovation and creative, amazing, and constructive content. You have Konami, Sega as some examples, trying to make money out of building slot machines with their overexhausted franchises and put them into casinos compared to the actual intent and accent on bringing innovation and nurturing the creative spirits of it, that is very low and slow paced as an economic investment and activity. E. A. for example do it the same, with Activision, and many others. The later just push hard on the video game market and try to shift it and get the world used to it. And that is bad, in the sense that...you see what happens. I hope it makes sense and you understand.
This video is as long as a movie, yet there is no filler or bullshit. You gave a detailed and complete review of the game without wasting any time. Great review guys 👍
Too bad EA pulled it from every store so you have to pirate it to enjoy it. Its not like it had a Single-player bot mode ylu could still play after the GameSpy servers went down 🙃 (not to mention community run servers that actually work and people still play)
"We are cutting Single player to dedicate more time and resources towards a more polished multiplayer" *Multiplayer comes out 4 times worse and buggy than previous games that had single player* Hate it when companies come out with these bullshit excuses. More corners cut with each consecutive release.
I knew 2042 would be shit when I saw the wacky specialists, no factions, no classes, only 7 maps, a laughingly small number of weapons and vehicles. DICE is not the same studio anymore.

While I have loved Joe for ages, some of his content ends up being longer than it needs to be, and in this case it shows, as at least half of the issues he has were patched over a week ago, and aren't really relevant anymore. I'm disappointed in the game in many ways as well, but it's still fun, albeit too expensive
@@sh0 he said multiple times in the review that he is reviewing the title at release. It doesn't matter that the issues have been resolved, they shouldn't have been there in the first place to even warrant a patch.

I remember playing Bad Company 1 and 2, was thinking "woah! this destruction is so cool, I bet it will be ridiculously cool 10 years from now!" Little did I know that that would be the most fun I would have in battlefield.
If you like destruction and chaotic gameplay, I highly recommend Red Faction Guerilla. You can even ram vehicles into buildings and the structure gets demolished, it's freaking great.
same, BF peaked with bad company 2. 1 was alright, though i put more time in BF2 than any other and have been playing since 1942, and its a shame this series has gone down in flames in such a way.
Whenever a rushed or bad game comes out, i'm always expecting an absolute masterclass of a review by Joe. And judging by the opening skit, it's already coming together nicely.
if people stopped pre ordering based on pre rendered gameplay, game devs would actually have to put some effort into their games. But oh well, they‘ll shit on bf2042 and then get excited for the next one. Always the same shit.
I honestly don’t understand the “Battlefield campaigns are ass anyway” argument. Battlefield 1’s war stories were extremely poignant and respectful pieces of history that made me genuinely remorseful for the young men who died in the trenches fighting for things they did not understand. Battlefield stories have been good, DICE has just gotten lazy.
At 3:50 when Joe says, "I literally cannot remember a time when I did not want to play Battlefield." was so accurate to my feelings on the game. I have friends who ask if I want to play with them and I have to say no because playing the game gives me absolutely no joy like many of the other games did.
Likewise, I've played almost every Battlefield game even fucking Vietnam and 2142 and despite those game's flaws I've had the very least some fun in them. 2042 from beta to release just made me feel dead inside.
I've been forcing my self to play it trying to get all the enjoyment I can out of it sad part is Its extremely rare to get that enjoyment so for past 2 days now just been playing the halo campaign all the way through will finish halo 1 tomorrow and on to halo 2 Better than shitfield
For real though!! BF3 & 4 were games that I could play for hours and not even care if I was winning or losing. After the betas, I didn't put any time into Hardline, BF1 and BFV, so I was beyond excited with the way this one was looking to be a return to form. Then the beta came out and my heart dropped. So grateful I didn't preorder, but still sad that I still can't get my Battlefield fix =( Edit: should clarify, no bad vibes toward BF1, just wasn't for me
I've never been more disappointed in a video game. Battlefield stole my heart with BC2. It got me into PC gaming as I built a PC just to play BF3 the way it was intended. This is such an insult to long time fans I still can't even believe it.
Battlefield died to me a while back, so this doesn't hurt me much. Everyone should just focus on the GOAT, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and their last good game Battlefield 1.
The loss of destructibility is devastating, destructibility made BF3 so good, the whole map would change over course of a battle and actually make you feel like its been through a war. Like metro with the tile pillars being destroyed and giving less cover or the apartment building having no cover because the whole walls were missing.
now all dice does is make maps. these aren't new games. just updated versions. no campaign either. i didnt buy bf5. campaign too short. as long as people keep buying battle royale games, companies will keep getting away with charging money for games that arent new. how many battle royale games are people going to buy?
I love destructible environment and I agree they screwed us over I mean it won't be anything like the awesome destruction of Red faction Armageddon and gorilla but still. It may as well be a call of duty game at this point without the destructible environment.
BF 2042 deserves a 2/10 maybe 2.5/10 if they do fix more stuff and even then the damage they done is way too much especially due to them not only being a legacy company that has done 1 million times better with older games in the same space. Literally in perspective Cyberpunk 2077 is 3 times better and less scummy then BF 2042 because of the cash grabs and 4 battle passes and it being 100 dollars plus. Atleast Cyberpunk 2077 was 60 dollars. Allowed refunds, more patches, and no future cashgrabs with battle passes/shop etc
If Battlefield goes back to the basics of making simple, immersive war-like gameplay that leans milsim-ish but not full-arma then they will get their fanbase back.
Their new fanbase is kids and dumb people with deep pockets or whose parents give them their credit card to shut them up. They dont care what real gamers think because the casual fans just like good graphics and explosions.
The Blue Bear he means realistic skins, armies, and ‘atmosphere’. Like BF3 and 4 multiplayer. Not necessarily gameplay… except the wingsuit. That shit is too goofy currently.
@The Blue Bear Squad is based on project reality. A mod for BF2. But base game BF2 was way more like a milsim than current BF games. One of the main reasons for that IMHO is because since BF3 dice felt the need to increasingly make it so that people behave like they're wearing rocket boosted roller skates. They zoom around and fly over walls, all to get us into the shooty shooty action sooner as though we're all ADHD kids who hit the fast forward button whenever John Wick has a dialogue scene that goes on longer than 30 seconds. They build fantastic looking worlds with amazing sound design. I firmly believe that would allow them to tone down the Micheal Bay without people getting bored. You can see how ludicrously fast it all is if you stop to focus on any weighted item rigged to a player models body. It flaps and bounces around crazily.
Taking out the scoreboard also kills a lot of the competitive spirit. I used to play BF4 and challenge myself to get the highest I could on the board, one of my major points of enjoyment while playing was to see the result of my efforts when I rose at or near the top. There are so many reasons why the scoreboard is important to most FPS games, the idea of excluding it over sensibilities is totally asinine.
I miss being the top one with like 10 kills because my headshots counted for like 1000 score when sniping lol I was completely fine when they removed the marksman bonus from affecting the scoreboard to let other people take the spot lol
Also the fact that most of the score you accumulate is through team work and objective based that it encourages you to play the objective without it there’s no incentive to team play
Man I remember in Battlefield 1 I was playing conquest and when the match ended I was at the top with 168 kills and only 8 deaths I felt so fucking cool and I even got some friends requests because of that
It’s honestly astounding how it isn’t illegal to release a game in this state. I understand video games are considered an art form and what not, but at the end of the day it’s a product that you’re selling to people. Imagine you went to a car dealership to buy a new car, and instead of giving you the car you wanted from the lot, they instead gave you one without brakes or tires and, and said “sorry, this car is in beta, you’ll get the brakes and tires in half a year”. That’s how this game feels
Games are legally in a weird spot. At the same time they sell you a product but it doesn't follow consumer laws.. it's trying to get away from warranties and such by using service related laws. It's so weird how they managed to do that since it allows them to not have to keep promises.
They couldnt get away with this shit back then when there were no online updates to just patch it later its ridiculous!! Pay full price for a game that doesnt have to be complete or even function correctly its insane!!!

I just don't get why the sound design has gone so downhill. The past few Battlefields have had some of the best sound design in ANY game, let alone the FPS genre. The ambient effects, the bullets whizzing past, the audio mix totally changing depending on your location from in-vehicle to interiors. The soundscaping was one of the best in the industry and it actually sounded like you were really there in a warzone. It immersed you so much, how did they go backwards on this?
Rumour has it _none_ of the sound people from the previous Battlefields worked on this one, though I don't remember whether it was a simple attrition, a mass layoff or DICE actually outsorcing that part and not rehiring the same studio. A demonstration of why game companies being shitty places to work for is a problem for players too either way.

Indie games is where it's at. AAA game dev is getting too time consuming and expensive, so companies pull this shit. Also, fans still buy it. But it definitely stemmed from the insane cost of AAA game dev. When I think of AAA, I think of very polished graphics, audio, and gameplay mechanics. Graphics & sound usually are pretty good, but the mechanics are always so bad and broken that it doesn't matter. There's also a lack of passion in huge game titles and it really shows. Conspiracy theory: DICE ditched the scoreboard because they either know they can't stop or don't want to spend the time/money to stop hackers. If you can't tell that headshot694200000 has 140 kills and 2 deaths, you're not likely to report them. You're likely to write off their impossible killshots as net code or lag or whatever because you now can't prove it. Suddenly there are "less hackers" in Battlefield. Problem that's been plaguing the series for years: solved! High fives all around! :D
Nah that's a little too short-sighted IMO. Hackers are problematic, yeah, but not to such an extent. Besides, that solves nothing. I think it's more to do with how they want to make the game more... "accessible" to a wider audience. OR maybe it's just because whoever worked on this doesn't have a clue and thought they were innovating.
Breaks my heart how EA/Dice has slowly destroyed this franchise. Once upon a time there was no better military shooter! It takes some impressive effort to 'F' it this bad!
Thank you for calling out these AAA developers. I remember playing Battlefield 2 back when I was a kid. Super epic game and it was made back in '05. And lemme tell you..developers HATE being rushed when they know they cant deliver quality software in the timeframe theyre given. I agree, there’s almost a new battlefield just about every year (gotta compete vs CoD and other big FPS games). I’m curious if things could be better if a battlefield game came out every 2 or 3 years instead. I would think quality wise it “should” improve but there are plenty of other games even with that time that gets launched incomplete.
I am not convinced by that saying that it's all from the top. Sure, the top is ultimately the source of everything and it's just a bunch of rotten degenerates probably and soulless corporates, but a lot of the developers were probably diversity hires people who even if you threw as many years of development as they wanted could not develop an iota of fun.
@@shadowangel5547 I have to agree with Shane's comment. Battlefield is not on a yearly cycle like CoD, which makes the whole thing even more laughable. Then they choose to cut out the Campaign, which might be acceptable if the Multiplayer was even remotely polished or good. How does a game with almost 4 years of development, multiple studios, millions of dollars and classified as a "triple A" developer completely botch and destroy Battlefield at its very core? Bugs and glitches that were present in the Beta still existed in the launch of the game DESPITE Dice saying that the Beta build was months old and the current build is "much more Polished". Sure DICE, sure. Everyone knew that the Beta was basically the game, I'm glad I cancelled my Pre-order as the launch of the game was largely no different than the Beta and to this very day is absolutely atrocious.
I'm a developer and you're totally on point. This is exactly why I stay away from games, too. You wouldn't believe the sheer number of patch jobs and corners we have to cut as a result. Being rushed pisses me off because it just creates more work, long term.

For one that consider Vietnam & BF2 the highpoints & golden era of the series thats just hiliarious. Dont think its possible to be further from those games.
Removal of campaign is always a warning sign. It's never "oh we're going to use the resources we would spend on that to improve the multiplayer," it's "so the investors can take the money that would have been spent on that and put it into their pockets."
all due respect sir, yes, but no. You normally spend 4-5 hrs in the campaign and then perhaps 1000 hrs in the MP. That argument is bad. I personally never cared for campaign when it came to BF franchise. What is mind blowing is that building a 5hrs campaign cost as much as building the MP part for most part. Truth is that the game should not release in such a state like ever. With or without campaign.
The addition of campaign to the battlefield series was purely just to attract new players and console players. Original battlefield players will remember before they made bad company 1 and the first battlefield campaign.
"We used campaign development money to develop monetary campaign content like skins, loot boxes, and other cringy shit the industry loves but players hate."

There is something artfully magical about those clips of a hovercraft flying into a helicopter and riding the explosion safely off while that cursed soundtrack grinds in the background.
I know no one’s gonna see this. But I explicitly remembered an advertisement two years ago with this game. And it was Irish from BF4, and I thought this was gonna be a sequel to that game and I thought that was gonna be fucking awesome. But no, they fucking cock teased us by not have a campaign whatsoever. SMH.
It’s a shame, the optimistic fans bring up that bf4 was broken at first too, but that game always had a solid direction. This games direction is on the apex/cod wave, no matter how they fix bugs, that’s not changing. I’m good, that’s not battlefield. If I want to play cod, I’ll play cod.
I would rather them bring bots to older titles for offline play or even do a reboot of bf3 or something. Bf4 is still good but hackers are taking over.
Wasn’t lacklustre at launch either. Had way more maps, server browser, basic features and significantly more weapons from day one, naval combat and no doubt more things in forgetting
I agree. If CDPR failed so miserably, I won't believe in a company again with pre-order. And this was just miserable considering how much I look up to the series.
as a software developer, it is not the developer fault! IT WAS THE PROJECT MANAGER. because when the developer have opinion and want to make it better, usually the project manager goes: "who tf are you? this is my project, I manage this, so you just follow what I told you and finish this up!"

If you like destruction and chaotic gameplay, I highly recommend Red Faction Guerilla. You can even ram vehicles into buildings and the structure gets demolished, it's freaking great.

3 and 4 were ok too. Not crazy but it was fun going through it once or twice.
Most importantly, Battlefield 1's campaign was fun to play.
I doubt it's that they got lazy. EA is just probably pushing for profits and they don't have much of a choice.
Bad company was awesome
Here after this game became free and is still dead -_-
At 3:50 when Joe says, "I literally cannot remember a time when I did not want to play Battlefield." was so accurate to my feelings on the game.
This is the first Battlefield where I got bored in less than a week of playing and honestly, it's awful to realize it.
I've been forcing my self to play it trying to get all the enjoyment I can out of it sad part is Its extremely rare to get that enjoyment so for past 2 days now just been playing the halo campaign all the way through will finish halo 1 tomorrow and on to halo 2 Better than shitfield
I still play Battlefield 1
For real though!! BF3 & 4 were games that I could play for hours and not even care if I was winning or losing. After the betas, I didn't put any time into Hardline, BF1 and BFV, so I was beyond excited with the way this one was looking to be a return to form. Then the beta came out and my heart dropped. So grateful I didn't preorder, but still sad that I still can't get my Battlefield fix =(

I've never been more disappointed in a video game. Battlefield stole my heart with BC2. It got me into PC gaming as I built a PC just to play BF3 the way it was intended. This is such an insult to long time fans I still can't even believe it.
Just wait until you witness the Battlefield UniverseTM, it will blow your heart out..
It's truly baffling. Tragic, infuriating, overall shite. It breaks my heart 💔
Battlefield hardline the map change threw the game kinda
Allowed refunds, more patches, and no future cashgrabs with battle passes/shop etc
who made this game? 38:00
If Battlefield goes back to the basics of making simple, immersive war-like gameplay that leans milsim-ish but not full-arma then they will get their fanbase back.
I dont think they were ever simple exactly
Their new fanbase is kids and dumb people with deep pockets or whose parents give them their credit card to shut them up. They dont care what real gamers think because the casual fans just like good graphics and explosions.
Nah Arma will always be king, nothing beats a good community with mods lol

I miss being the top one with like 10 kills because my headshots counted for like 1000 score when sniping lol
I was completely fine when they removed the marksman bonus from affecting the scoreboard to let other people take the spot lol
Also the fact that most of the score you accumulate is through team work and objective based that it encourages you to play the objective without it there’s no incentive to team play
@ImAPirateSoSueMe it’s a stupid scoreboard that doesn’t make any sense and only show your team

Yeah agree, its garbage.
Dude I miss the battle chatter from the old games, Battlefield 2042 is hauntingly quiet.
Hell, there were even options to choose different audio types, including "War Tapes" for maximum realism.

Graphics & sound usually are pretty good, but the mechanics are always so bad and broken that it doesn't matter. There's also a lack of passion in huge game titles and it really shows. Indie games may not look like real life but at least they work, they are fun, and they have charm to them because the devs actually enjoy what they are doing

Took the words right out of my mouth
Nah that's a little too short-sighted IMO. Hackers are problematic, yeah, but not to such an extent. Besides, that solves nothing.
I think it's more to do with how they want to make the game more... "accessible" to a wider audience. OR maybe it's just because whoever worked on this doesn't have a clue and thought they were innovating.

They hate breaking certain rules in terms of demos..theyre over worked when crunchtime happens because they know what theyre doing and what they cant do in that timeframe but the higher ups are in charge so they cant say much..100% the devs are fuming and are making sure management knows that this game needed another 3-6 months to get where they intended it to be
I agree, there’s almost a new battlefield just about every year (gotta compete vs CoD and other big FPS games).
Most people never played BF for it's SP.
They removed CAMPAIGN because from there you can easily made an cheat that will work in multiplayer.
as a lifelong fan of the battlefield series, I was not disappointed on release. It was really clear what they were giving us from the first reveal trailer. wouldn't download it if it was free
After all this time Joe you're still the one true honest reviewer. Been following since 2012. Never let the anger fade. Cheers.
Totally agree I've been here since 2015. Not only are they deadly honest but to top it off they are so damn entertaining.
"Let the hate flow through you"
Aye 2012 you and me both
The Act Man is good
Been here since 2010. Lot of reviewers fallen since then but AJ remains one of the few honest ones left.
So endearing seeing Joe stop himself from interrupting. Much respect.
alex probably made him cry off camera and forced him to quit interrupting them.
He tries so hard but you still see him about to jump but he stops.good job by Joe!
@@shaun5497 He has learned to let others speak so thats nice.
@@namename-tr8il someone else said the same thing on another video 😂
There is something artfully magical about those clips of a hovercraft flying into a helicopter and riding the explosion safely off while that cursed soundtrack grinds in the background.
I 100% agree, I love it 😂
It's magical enough for the hovercrafts to just wallride and vault over buildings.
SMH.
True. Remember the slogan from the old days? "Only in battlefield"
Now its, ownlee inn baddelfeeld
The "Are you winning, son" sketch was wonderful, and I want more of it.
Alex really is the perfect disappointed father / uncle
I hate fps games but even I had fun playing bf4 at launch. This on the other hand seems like it's not even a game.
Exactly. If I want to play COD I'm playing the ones made by IW, Treyarc, Sledgehammer and Raven. Not Dice.
Cyberpunk taught me not to preorder any more. This just solidified that point. Game companies deserve to fail at this point.
Learned a little late there didn't you bud.
Lmaoo you will pre-order again like all these other gold fish. Corporate is already counting on you.
like an idiot I actually did preorder this but I played the beta and said hell no, immediately canceled and got my money back
I agree. If CDPR failed so miserably, I won't believe in a company again with pre-order. And this was just miserable considering how much I look up to the series.
It won't happen because the gaming community is the most gullible - it's just a fact!
as a software developer, it is not the developer fault! IT WAS THE PROJECT MANAGER. because when the developer have opinion and want to make it better, usually the project manager goes: "who tf are you? this is my project, I manage this, so you just follow what I told you and finish this up!"
