    I have been growing Amaryllis for years. This year I ordered over 30 Amaryllis bulbs to force. Some of mine are already blooming. I soak mine first but only put enough water in the bowl to submerge the roots and the bottom third of the bulb. NEVER would I let water get into the neck of the bulb where the leaves and flowers emerge. You are opening the door for fungus and rot to get in.

    soaking is quite a tricky thing - there is a danger that water gets between layers of the hippeastrum (which is the right name of this flower) bulb and the bulb starts to rot. Be careful with that

    I understand soaking the roots but the entire bulb from all the videos I've watched they said to be careful to get water anywhere near the bulbous especially the neck because you can rot it out.

      No water on the bulbs... Really? Gee I guess growers are out in the growing fields holding umbrellas over them when it rains. Think people!

    I love your videos. I was told not to get the bulb wet only the roots. I see you emerged the entire bulb in the water. Thank you 🙏🏾

    Great tips, I’ll be soaking my amaryllis bulb next year!

    Very informative. I bought my first amaryllis bulb and I had no idea I should soak it first. I will follow each step. Thank you. I do have a question though...I bought gardening soil. Would that hinder growth since it's not 'potting soil'? I do plan on planting it in a pot though.

    • @tomjones2157
      @tomjones2157 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gardening soil is a bit heavy and not enough air. If you mix it with potting mix and perlite it will lighten it. Don't use vermiculite as that is too moisture retentive and also the pH of 9 is too alkaline.

    Can amaryllis bulbs be planted outside with the weed preventer ground cover and not cause problems? I am currently planting huge bulbs and have a lot invested in them and do not wish to take chances with them. Your input would be greatly appreciated!

    Could you please talk about it where do I put it once planted? There are informations around that you should leave them on a dark place until they have produced the first blooms... Or put them straight on a bright place, they will bloom anyway... So frustrating not having the right information 😭

      Judit, mine do fine either way. I’ve never tried this hydration trick, looks good. I keep them year to year, give them a dry spell in the basement Aug-Oct. I repot some, and start watering about Nov. 1. From then, each blooms on it’s own schedule from New Years through March. 12 out of 17 bloomed this year, so I’m looking for tips to get them all to flower. I’m learning they are pretty tough, and will survive most anything but getting too wet and rotting.

    After planting the bulbs in the pot where will you put it. Outside under the sun or just inside the house or in the porch.

    • @tomjones2157
      @tomjones2157 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the porch is good but inside where its got good light could work. Don't put in the sun as they prefer shade.
