While you may find yourself alone, never forget you are invited into our spaces and we enjoy your company. I don't think there is a video I haven't enjoyed especially when you stop and present the most amazing vista. A tree off into the distance the rolling hills and icey waterfalls, and most of all little Finn bouncing along and looking back at "dad" as much as to say isn't it just great!. I am an old lady now, alone for many years, a widow; with a chronic physical condition that has me chair or house bound every day. Switching on my lap top and I watch wonderful videos from that green and pleasant land and I am grateful to know you are doing the heavy lifting, you are bringing me the moments in time, you are climbing the styles and avoiding the cows. It is you and others like you who bring the world to my living room. Thank you Glenn, two small words but sent with my heart.
“Weary and tormented, Manfred wanders the Alps, vainly seeking destruction. A remembrance of his lost love Astarte tears at his heart.” Back in the late 70's and early 80's, when I was doing all the Wainwrights, a few times with friends but mostly alone, these words of Byron used to go through my head. I was ploughing a lonely furrow in those days, I looked at all the couples with envy, but was never part of one myself. I didn't wan't to be alone, but I was, and sometimes my imagination would run riot, but the sense of loneliness and being apart from the world was strong. They may not have seemed it at the time, but looking back these were some of the happiest and most fulfilling days of my life. My own company was sufficient if Only I'd realised it at the time. Some years later I did most of the Wainwrights again, this time with a partner. This was also wonderful in a different way. Nowadays I'm back on my own, and instead of doing Wainwrights (which are in any case 12,000 miles away) I can barely walk to the house next door once a week for a game of cards. But its OK, we live with what we have, make the best of it, and find happiness in it, or at least I do and you seem like someone who would do the same.
Don't feel sad seeing other couples sweetie. You never know how happy they really are, what you see can be deceiving. You have you and the lovely Finn and of course all of us. Thanks for the lovely walk today along the fab Northumberland beaches. Take care and I look forward to our next walk 😊
Your sadness came from your precious memories with time spent in your favourite place with Finns mum & your mum before her passing. There is a lot to be said about being single (personally I love it) - being in the wrong relationship can be the loneliest place & who is to say those couples are all happy - stay strong & keep doing what you do best xx
I am a widow for the second time in ten years. My beloved husband passed in June but before that I lived alone while he lived in a private care home. During the 8 months before he passed, I learned I could live alone. I find that I am content. I have friends and family when I wish to be with family and friends, but I value the time I am on my own.
As a solo traveler I get how you felt, Glenn. 95% of the time I’m perfectly happy out and about by myself. Then suddenly out of nowhere, and for no apparent reason, you get smacked across the head by your solo-ness and it can be a challenge. One that I usually deal with by getting takeaway and spending the night holed up in my accommodation. 😂 Loving getting to see more of the amazing English countryside with yourself and Fin, thanks so much.
I've just got back from Northumberland and my sister, brother in law and I took our caravans and used them as a base to go on beach walks with our dogs, along the coast. We went to Low Newton and visited the Ship Inn too. The weather was surprisingly good for December. Lovely to see again.🎉
Don’t feel embarrassed about being on an over crowded campsite on your own. The campers look at you are only envious of what you are doing . Can I give you and Finn a 🤗. From a solo camper van owner and walker !!. ❤
As a widow I can relate to your moment of sadness and nostalgia. Fortunately, these feelings are few and far between and I am a very happy person. Still hiking the glorious fells but bittersweet at times. Love your vlogs and honesty.
I travel with friends and also alone - I love traveling alone, but it is not always easy being alone among couples., It can bring up moments of vulnerability which is not always a bad thing. I live in Northumberland and love the beaches, castles and wildness. So nice to watch your video.
I just discovered your channel yesterday and ~I have loved every minute of it. Finn is simply adorable and she is the perfect companion for you. She is so well behaved and has a special bond with you. I love your honesty and realness and I am subscribing as I feel like I am walking along side you on your various trips, which are so much fun and the scenery and clouds, and Nature are stunningly beautiful as you point out to us.....keep up the great work:)
So good, reminded me of growing up on the coast of Maine (USA). I can smell the sea! One of the aspects of your videos I really enjoy is your self reflection and honesty with your audience. So earnest. Thank you!
Hey mate. I’ve recently been single myself and sort of know what you mean. It can be a bit odd to be there on your own but, like you struggling with folk around you and “staring at you” etc you’ll come to realise that people aren’t really looking at you and they don’t care that you’re on your own or care what set up you have etc. Also, try and embrace that you’re solo and you can just do exactly what you want and be entirely selfish.
I was just about to post something similar - that feeling people are looking at you on your own. Except they aren’t and more likely thinking “he’s got the right idea, walk, pub, food - bliss”.
Wow, those beaches are fantastic. Loved seeing Finn enjoying the beach and the sea. My doggy will only go in up to his belly. I'm in Cornwall, also single but never feel lonely when I'm with my doggo. I think you're very brave filming and talking to the camera whilst among people. Thanks for showing us Northumberland :-)
I used to fish those beaches in my teens with my Dad before he passed away (coming up 14 years on 14th Feb..). Low Newton was always a great spot, as was Craster & Embleton.
Hi Glenn, it was me who recommended the Wild deodorant! I'm glad you like it, it really is good isn't it. I feel like Wild should sponsor me now! 😜I have my own little hiking channel, much inspired by your own. Anyway, I'm loving your videos on the coast, looking forward to the next one!😃
Great vlog as always. My daughter and I I walked / paddled all the way from Craster to Beadnell and back on a hot day in May some years ago. Great to relive that experience through your video. I was in Craster in the pouring rain and visited Dunstanburgh this June and hope to be back next year. I normally travel alone in my camper and am happy to do so, but do find being surrounded by couples at campsites a bit difficult at times.
Another great video Glenn. Great to see Finn enjoying the beach so much. Good to hear you have not forgotten abut walking the Wainwrights but these other videos are just as enjoyable for us to watch. Thanks as always for taking us all along with you 👍
Totally understand that feeling of being the odd one out, stopped me going anywhere for a long time. Really loving this series, Glenn, thanks for taking us with you x
It seems like a few of us feel like that here, I mean we can't all be the odd one out 😂 but nice to know you're not alone with them feelings I guess. It's hard getting out of that mindset and getting out and living your best life!
My ex is from Northumberland so for almost 30 years I enjoyed this glorious County. I moved down to Stratford-upon-Avon to be close to my own family, but every single day I miss Northumberland. I've walked so many of the places you are and it makes me happy to see, but sad at not being there anymore
Great video series Glenn, really enjoyed you showing us the stunning scenery along this part of our coastline. Thank you for putting this together and sharing. 🙏
It was lovely to meet you and Finn with my mates Sausage dog at the start of your walk . Beautiful coast line . Really enjoying your walks and hikes some of which I have done in the past You are doing a fantastic job ! 👍
I am really enjoying this series thus far. Today was great. What a fantastic beach, well beaches. Reminds me of being down in East Linden, Nova Scotia and beach walks I took with my Mum. Red sand there and not quite as long, but I do get it!!! Lovely to see Finn, chucked as she would run from the incoming waves. Great memories you brought to my mind. Thank you! - Gaylin, Ontario Canada
I haven’t been watching you long as I only recently discovered your channel. I know how you feel about being on your own and feeling awkward, I am on my own and don’t do half as much as a person does in a couple. I have four sausage dogs and we walk a lot but don’t do the miles you do. I must get a van to explore more. Great channel, keep it up, love Finn.x
The bit when you came through the dunes with the grass either side and the hues of blue of the sea in the middle 😍..perfect shot! Any possibility of you doing magic with your video and pause it and perhaps show it again on next video? X ❤
great video but the ending was upsetting to hear you say that you felt alone😢 Remember you are not alone you have us all with you mr crag thank you for doing what you do and inspiring myself and others to get out there and see the world❤
Stunning coastline. I must make a point to visit Northumberland. Finn is just adorable, give her a snack from all of us. Love the subtle drone shots you manage to get in your vids.
Thank you Glenn for sharing this beautiful coastline with us. The opening footage of the sunrise was incredible. As always, can't wait for the next one 😊
The waymarked "coastal path" frequently goes on tracks behind dunes - you have to make an effort to stay by the sea 🙂. Oh, and I think the grass at low Newton belongs to the National Trust
Wish I could give your videos a double thumbs up ! Loved your depiction of this coastline, and like many others, I have been inspired to find out more and plan a walk myself.
My beloved Northumberland really enjoyed this video. Watching Finn"s holiday. I always travel Northumberland solo love astronomy so head to the dark skies region. Great video 😊.
Don't worry about being alone - you're not, Finn is with you... yes couple of windbreakers round you'll feel tons better. Another fab vlog, thank you..
Me and my husband are in our mid thirties and we are so envious of you and Finns travels!! Our children wouldn’t either be interested or would moan and so we are waiting of the day we can go as a couple and go for long walks and exploration! I’m living vicariously through you!
You were lucky to find the walk to Dunstanburgh so deserted. It looks like it did forty years ago. Nowadays it usually looks like the pilgrimage at Mecca.
Wonderful video….. beautiful scenery….. great company….. keep doing what ya doing…. Don’t fret about couples and feeling the odd one out…..just be you and Finn xx❤❤
Beautiful walk, love watching Finn have so much fun. I recently spent a week in and around Embleton it's a glorious area such fantastic walks with wide sweeping views. As a fellow solo traveller (lost my long time travelling companion husband to cancer) there are times when I also feel awkward in the company of couples and family, but I remember how lucky I am to still be able to exlpore, travel and I have great family and friends to come back to and share my travels with. I hope you know that sharing your walks with us means you are never alone. 😊
Sorry about your Mum and the other memories :-( But you gave yourself plenty of great moments with the Finn-mister! Yes... I thought those beaches were spectacular! Thanks for sharing! Love from the USA!
How wonderful this video truly is to watch and not just because wonderful Finn is present. It was great touring the ruined castle with you and Finn, because I recognized it from another video I have seen on another platform. That platform "Hidden Realms" did a video about the ghost of that castle you can't pronounce. It seems the castle builder, who was a cousin of Edward II, offended him and so he was executed for treason. It took 11 blows to remove his head. Legend has it that his headless ghost haunts that castle. I thought you ought to know in case you weren't aware of this story. Thank you for once again lifting my spirits. Like Finn, I love beaches and like you, I don't care for sand in my shoes. And the water was beautifully breath=taking. Have a blessed week.
Loved part 2, this is one of our favourite places. We're planning another road trip to Northumberland in 2025 which will be a long journey from where we now live in Cornwall. We've been making trips to the coastline between Amble and Holy Island for the past 40 years, and it still has that certain magic. We use these sites in our van and believe me nobody could give two hoots who you are and what you're doing. Just keep to the rules i.e. no noise after 11pm, etc. and you'll go unnoticed. If anything people knowing who you are will be a good protection for your van when your away.
I'm just now tuning in to this episode, and I love seeing Flynn having fun on the beach❤. I appreciate you mixing it up and showing all the different places you visit. I love the mountains...I live at the foothills of Tiger Mountain in Issaquah WA USA, just 2 hours from our beautiful Tahoma (native American name), commonly known as Mr. Rainier, but I love the beaches and villages too.
After another stupid and annoying day at work, i get home and make you wait until after strictly the result show and then watch this. All made up for the bad day and you have hikers feet like i have golfers feet, both the same colour as the lovely Finn. Thank you. Xx
Fantastic video loved it. I know the feeling of loneliness Glen. I was walking around Buttermere and I felt this huge sadness being on my own and it felt that bad I retreated back to the car. My partner left me 2 months ago and it's hard seeing couples but being in the lakes has helped, I got to top of haystacks few days ago. Keep up the great work. Fin loved the water.
@Paul-of3ut Paul, as I said to Glenn, you can never tell how happy the couples you see really are. We cannot see into their lives and appearances are so very often deceptive. Please embrace your alone time. You can wake up and go to bed when it suits you. Eat when, where and what you want to, go out and to places you really want to go, watch what you want and generally just be you. Once you embrace this it isn't being alone, it is just being You. 🤗🤗
@ysannejohnson2374 thanks for your kind words, you are so right, I can do anything I want buy what I want I should be grateful for the things I have in life.
Enjoyed this video....part 2. You must have been on the campsite same time as me and me Marra. We were camping...a few tents onsite. Your van is super. I certainly wouldn't worry about other folk. We had a bit of craic with a couple of folk in camper Van's on the whole chatty and seemed ok. The majority just kept themselves to themselves which suits me fine. Thanks for sharing a video that shows part of wonderful Northumberland.....shush keep it to yourself it's very special 👍
Your Videos are a masterclass, always so easy to watch & well edited. Entertaining us all the way through… hearing your honest thoughts about how you felt at the end is something we all feel sometimes in our lives, not many express there feelings enough. Northumberland looks stunning.
I really look forward to Sunday evening and spending an hour watching your great videos .Your channel is definitely the best on TH-cam .Keep up the good work
25 yrs ago I was out that way loved it with the family. How things change. Keep Vlogging there's some awesome places . Everywhere I go on the coast I say Chris who walked the UK coastline saw this view. Met him in Betty hill cafe in the Highlands Scotland July 2019. Some amazing people out there.
A glorious start to the day, we visited Craster and had some kippers sent to my mum by post, God knows what the postman thought...You got me a bit emotional, it pulled on my heart strings, I thought about our last visit too. It was a real treat Glenn, it was great to see you and Finn enjoy the beach so much. Thank you both so much. 🥰🐕
It was lovely to see Finn out and about with you 🐶 Really enjoyed the video (the beaches were stunning and the view from the castle was breathtaking) I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of your hols with Finn ☺️
Fantastic video...really enjoyed the whole hour. Finn is a little diamond and I am looking forward to seeing your travels again. Well done and keep up the good work. I am away to watch some of your previous videos. All the best.
Thanks so much for this! I had a couple of family summer holidays back in the late 80s when I was a kid. We stayed in Belford above a pottery shop/cafe. Amazing memories of jumping off the sand dunes , Ross back sands, Bamburgh beach and of course the amazing castles. These really are the best beaches in the world. I need to go back at some point and explore properly. Cheers for the inspiring videos Glen!
Love all your vlogs, and these recent ones are just as enjoyable as the 'Wainwrights' and I, for one, are so pleased that you are highlighting some of the other beautiful and interesting parts of our fantastic country. I often comment how gorgeous the North East looks, when watching episodes of Vera on ITV, and that, along with these vlogs has made me more determined than ever to holiday up there next year, so thanks for this 👍
Amazing shot of the whale. It's so lovely that you've managed to show the NE coast in such great conditions. Watching Finn on the beach is a joy. Great video mate.
Great stuff mate, fantastic walk. I often go in and out of feeling quite vulnerable or self conscious in certain places or times & then feel totally the opposite unexpectedly... Life is a strange thing indeed... Enjoyed the beer in the van 🍻...& the main thing is smelling great! 😁
You just need a wind breaker with 6 poles around yr door. Private until you stand up. Sometimes I’m ok with eyes all around but sometimes I ave to go into the caravan for my bubble. Older people may appear to stare longer but I think it’s cos our eyes take ages to focus. Sending love 💖🇬🇧
I totally understand your feelings being amongst all those couples having lost my husband last year. Really enjoying your walks, just wish I could summon the courage to get back out there as a solo walker
Accept those moments when you feel a little down, better to talk about them, humans need interaction, Write about your travels and thoughts it would be a best seller and a great release.
Great part of the country…we were just down the road from you the previous weekend, at Cresswell and the beach there between Cresswell and Amble is equally amazing, about 8 mile long walk, great with the doggies 👍
I stayed for 3 nights at the same campsite back in July. I reckon Beadnell Bay is the most beautiful beach that I know of. I did see something saying it was voted the best beach in the country.
Cracking beaches in this part of the country, loving this series. I came to the channel from the Dales Way, and I've been working through your back catalogue. As a lone soul myself it's great to see someone else appreciating the space and beauty of it all as well. Just to say, at 18.11 in the Hadrian's Wall video, the raised floor you spotted is actually a hypocaust, Roman underfloor heating. They piped hot air from a furnace outside the room into the space with the columns you saw,, very important in the freezing North, they were some clever b*ggers. The North remembers 😄
I’ve watched a lot of your videos and although I love the mountain scenery I think this has been one of my favourites ❤️ Finnmyster made it that bit more special 😊 thank you I didn’t want it to finish
Great vid as always. Just finished your Dalesway playlist. One request 😊 can you arrange the videos day one first so it plays through the series (when you do this as a playlist)
Absolutely gorgeous. Those sunrise shots in the beginning - wow! I found your channel while researching the Dales Way and insta subscribed. I'm commenting now to impact the algorithms a smidge, because I'm sure there’s a lot of people out there who would just love the channel.

You have to have days when you are flat to enjoy the days when you are skipping💖
Loved coming along on Finn’s holiday.
Thank you. Xx
Great video (as always) thanks Glenn.
Awesome, love the beach! I loved the historical aspects of some of the places you shared. Thank you again for taking us a long.
I really look forward to Sunday evening and spending an hour watching your great videos .Your channel is definitely the best on TH-cam .Keep up the good work
This video has been behind me searching for accommodation in the area all afternoon.
Cracking video of a stunning coastline. Cheers Glenn.
Im givin thumbs up an not even watched it yet😂
Same 😊
Ditto😊
Some of the best beaches anywhere
Fab.. Need a trip back up to this coast line. It looks like getting busier all the time now brilliant to watch.
Thanks for another great vlog…. Given us some places to go and visit
Absolutely love the road trip videos thanks Glenn👍
Beautiful view
Absolutely stunning! Got very emotional watching this video as this area of Northumberland was the last holiday with my parents..Thankyou x
It was lovely to see Finn out and about with you 🐶 Really enjoyed the video (the beaches were stunning and the view from the castle was breathtaking) I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of your hols with Finn ☺️
Excellent sir.
I often comment how gorgeous the North East looks, when watching episodes of Vera on ITV, and that, along with these vlogs has made me more determined than ever to holiday up there next year, so thanks for this 👍
I love these videos, showing me different places, the beaut of the uk! Really going to visit these places soon, i hope! 😍
you are an inspiration to us all I always watch your videos if I need motivation to get out there and do it.Thanks again Robin in NZ
Great beach apart from the busy bit 😂 , lovely to see finnie having a great time ❤
I walked some of this same stretch of the coast earlier this year with my daughter and this video gets me right back there!
Love Low Newton great pub great beach
What a lovely video, keep them comeing a great Sunday chill vid, loveing thr new locations but also love the wainwrights, Nice one Glenn
Great work and I completely understand your feeling of campsites.
