A wonderful view across the lake with the bird singing in the background. The clicking and the squeaking of the gates and the sound of your crunching footsteps. Water lapping on the shore and those gorgeous mountains in the distance. What more could you want. Thank you Glenn for a lovely walk.
Thanks for these videos. I lived in Kendal prior to moving to Alberta Canada. Watching these brings back so many memories. Even the birds at the start of this video believe it or not. I get my own slice of heaven what with the Canadian Rockies but nothing for me really beats Cumbria.
This is my daily run route, and in Nicol end, someone actually lives in one of the boats on bricks where "you wouldn't want to hang around at night". P.S That big Goose you pointed out I'm sure mugged a little kid of his dinner money the other week. It's massive, ha!
Hi Glenn, only discovered your channel a few weeks ago. I live on the edge of the Peak District and have been hiking for over 20 years. I'm finding your videos really interesting. The way you film makes me feel like I'm on the walk or in the van with you. Please keep up the good work, these videos will keep me entertained all through the winter .
Hi Glenn, that is such a lovely walk around Derwent Water. I did the walk last May. I also walked around Great Bay about 40 years ago in the winter when there was extensive flooding. I stepped into a channel and disappeared up to my neck, just managing to hold onto reeds to stop going completely under. It was a long cold walk back into Keswick! I actually like the section near Brandelhow, which you found unattractive. Each to their own 😊. I understand that the piles of stones are actually spoil heaps from lead mines dating back to the 16th century, when Elizabeth 1st brought over German miners. I thoroughly enjoy all your vlogs, Cheers Paul
Many thanks for this video, after watching it we booked a couple of nights in Keswick, and really enjoyed doing this walk. The first time for many years i have been to the Lake District, we will be back. Thank you so much for your channel, it really is a breath of fresh air.
I really enjoy all you walks .for me this walk was worth it .I watch from Brisbane Australia . And also the the talks some times I talk back . Thank-you Jo
Keswick area, possibly one of the most beautiful in not just UK but the world!!!! People travel thousands of miles to see this view across Derwent Water ! Stunning simply sublime ❤🎉
I did this route during a storm in June this year. It has everything - favourite part is the new decking through the old wetlands as you circle round towards Walla Crag Wood. Watching this has made me want to go back as soon as possible. Great video
You crack me up!! Shoes?? You can't hike 9 plus miles on rough terrain on an empty stomach.. that meal looked like a bit of heaven and you deserved that :-)) You can't keep looking up at the mountains wishing you were there..we know how much you are drawn to there and that it feeds your soul.. but you were trying to do the right thing.. the day was pretty grim. Hey we love you and appreciate how you are real and give us all a great hike each and every time. Thanks for sharing!! Love from the USA!
Your channel is a bit addictive. As a southerner, I am so jealous of what you have ‘up north’ love your walks, and commentary. Keep up the brilliant work, 😊
Thank you, Glen, for a lovely walk. When we visit Keswick, we always walk down to the lake in the evenings. Thanks for showing us the millennium stone and the calved hands. Did you, by any chance, see the bench with sticks spelling dogs' names on it. Another well-known mark.
Ennerdale would be another good lake to do a round and one people often don't do. Never done a round of derwent but the highlight has to be the southern end when you get that view of Castle Crag
When I did this walk, anticlockwise, in September last year the part between the Chinese bridge and the road was completely underwater. I was not going to walk a few miles back to detour around Grange so I waded through. It came to the top of my calves so the waterproof boots were useless but hey all part of the adventure and a fantastic walk 🙂
You only mentioned walking the Wainwrights 7 fell books, how about doing the Outlying Fells book. Perfect for those times when the higher fells are clagged-in (or for us oldies who may be too crocked for the bigger walks)
OMG just watched some of your vliogs from 5 years ago. The Priest Hole. Couldn't help noticing the "talk fest" and 90% is looking at you rather than the spectacular views that you can obviously see. I'm a big big fan of yours and so pleased that you now have the correct balance of views, you, and commentary. Hope to meet you one day on the fells. John Mac.
Done this walk many times but usually anti clockwise. Portinscale cafe does a brilliant breakfast. I usually go over the hill instead of round the boatyard though. Last time my " companions " had had enough by the time we got to the lodore hotel so they went back on the open top bus . I went back via lodore falls, surprise view , ashness Bridge , walla crag taking the path just before castlerigg campsite down through spring wood into Keswick ( passing people slogging up the hill with boothes shopping!)
One of the longer lakes to go around but at least there is a more or less consistent path! You may want to try Ennerdale Water -- if the cloud keeps hugging the higher tops --- as that one a lot of good paths around it.
Wonderful! It is subtly different in reverse, with a drink at Mary Mount, and finishing with a relaxing sit-down on Friars Crag. Would love to see that Cumbria Way series!
One of my favourite all time walks in the lakes. Will be completing it again ina couple of weeks, tagging on Castle Crag, Suprise View, Ashness Bridge and Walla Crag. In my opinion the west side of the water is better, hence the amendments on the east banks. Love the content, keep it up!
Back in Keswick next month, can't wait. Loved this walk, my brother did it last year when the path was even more flooded! Cumbria way video would be great. Finally, you need to slow down on that drive to Thirlmere otherwise there won't be a next video for us to enjoy! 🤣
We went to Hawse End in November with work. Meant to go down the ghyls but it was torrential. Serious enough that they sacked it off, only to allow us to do a short section right at the bottom by newlands pass. Safe to say it was the right decision as we all popped out mildly traumatised.
I love this walk, we will often add Catbells into it as well, or walk along to the little tea shop at the very end of derwent past the Chinese bridge to add a bit more to it. Also a stop off in Java or Square Orange in the town isa must after
Argh that walk, so many memories, many of that flaming road section.. but love the tea rooms in portingscale.. always been a nice stop off, a bit further along the road from where you stopped, but can be busy because it’s right on the route.. nice walk, I miss the wild walks, live too far from the mountains.
Loved everything about this video, soothing listening to the water and the birds. You must do clothing reviews too, having watched many of your videos, hubby admired your Revolution Race trousers and now has 4 pairs, like you say best thing since sliced bread. Look forward to your next trip to Cumbria.
I nearly never found it as at some point i had to drop on and off the main road. Then chinese beidge was dlooded and had to walk all the way down to Borrowdale it was relentless.
I can imagine parts of the path on the first half would be impossible from late spring onwards because of how overgrown they are. I live about half an hour away on the west coast so I could easily have a go at it one day, but like you I prefer to be up on the fells.
Loving this channel…such beautiful and unique landscape scenery ! These places remind me so much of the Appalachian Mountains…particularly the Blue Ridge Parkway that goes through western North Carolina and Virginia. I’d love to personally experience the Lake District some day. New subscriber from Alabama! 🪿🌿
Probably the most people you've seen on a walk for a while, good again though. Pity they have to use a yellow barrier re caravans but can see why they do it.Yes Cumbria Way be a good one.Hope your toe standing up.
Thanks, Glen, for another entertaining video. Wish I was able to complete that walk, it looked awesome. And yes, methinks, as you are a 'seasoned' walker (and I mean that in a nice way!) you should deffo do reviews about walking/hiking gear, including footwear, their weather resistance, durability and comfort. And did I see it right? £8.20 for parking? 😱 Bloody rip-off! But that aside, thanks again 🙂👍
Lovely walk today and it didn't seem to hurt my sore back. I suppose the weather in the Lake District is like our weather in Texas. IF you don't like it, wait five minutes. Have a blessed week. Yes, I would love to see a video of the Cumbria Way.
Loved this video-I used to visit a family friend in Keswick a lot when I was younger and I loved all of this area. Please do a series on Cumbria Way it would be fantastic. I fancy a burger and an Ice cream cornet now...or maybe an oyster (though they are so small now they should be called winkles!) I wouldn't share because it's shellfish🤣😂
Enjoyed this video. It's a while since we did this one, but it's on the 'to do' list again. A Cumbria Way series would be a great idea. Thinking of doing that route ourselves.
lovely walk Glenn - some wonderful views.. Couldn't agree more on innov8 boots... I have had many pairs and they are so comfortable and great grip but they don't last and always split in the same places - a real shame!
Love this walk Glen, always do this 10 mile circular when we visit the lakes especially when the weathers poor, we go the same way round but start at the base of walla crag, always have a cake and coffee treat at the end of it in Keswick in a place called The wild Strawberry, bloody lovely. I'm back in the lakes next month and can't wait.
Hi Glen, Thank you for you fabulous vlog as always Such beautiful scenery and making me laugh as usual your humour is brilliant 🤩 lol to cute creepy house 🏡 def more creepy than cute!…..I would love to see a vlog on the Cumbria way 💙
Another great video, cheers. We are actually staying in Portinscale end of march, we will most likely walk round anti clockwise, not all the way though, as we have a 4 month old lol. Maybe to the place that cannot be mentioned lol, oh and sample one of those burgers hahaha. Not done a full lap of Derwent before, but Thirlmere was interesting, especially after the big storms with a lot of the trees on their sides. Long old walk that one though, about 11 or 12 miles. The water level was pretty low too, so we could see old building works at the south end that were flooded by the reservoir.
Great watch Glenn. Those fells are calling you😂. I’m there all next week and the forecast is miserable. Going to be some wet days int those fells. This is a good walk but a better walk is to catch the bus from outside booths to seatoller. Get off and walk back to Keswick via Grange, castle crag, allerdale ramble and launch boat back to keswick. You can head up the old mine onto dale head down to cat bells. I wish there was a decent pub in Portinscale before not a fan of hotel bars. Dog and Gun should be open after the refit. Looking fwd to a pint or two next week. Cumbria way would be a good one for the summer.
We are too old to walk all of it (late 60's). If leaving from Keswick by boat are there any stops on the several boat stops that are best to stop off for food and a relaxing time. ie a pub/cafe etc next to the lake. Could walk a bit ie half a mile to get it if none on the actual route.
Completely agree that the Lodore Falls Hotel complex has become an eyesore. Surprised they’re getting permission to add yet more extensions to what is already a mess but I guess money speaks
Done this route twice, once slightly higher up as part of the Keswick Mountain Festival 25K race but it’s a good one. Interesting about the Inov8 Rocklite 400’s. I’ve just had a pair replaced by the manufacturer as the soles were coming off the heels after less than 100 miles. Shame as like you say, really comfy!
Please a Cumbria way video. That would be wonderful. I have seen a couple of videos of it and it's just an area that we don't see a lot on these videos (watching vicariously from Southern California)
Hi Glenn, Thanks for this, stayed in Borrowdale Hotel last year Easter time the weather was terrible so lots of low level stuff done with family and we did this walk it was great to learn what hills we were looking at….

That was a lovely adventure, Glenn. Thank You. FYI, the Canadian geese weren't stalking you, they just know all the best places to hang out. 🤣🤣🤣 ABSO-FRICKIN-LUTELY I'm ready for summer! Would love to see Cumbria, although I was wondering what happened to the video about Mr. Slee's shenanigans?
Hi, another great video, ive been thinking of doing the cumbrian way this year myself, and not found many good instructional videos of it, ive walked all the wainwrights so know the lakes quite well, but unsure of the first stage to torver, so one of that section would be great haha 👍

That house that you passed near Lingholm that you called 'creepy' is where my Dad grew up. In fact he proposed to my Mother there back in 1958.
A wonderful view across the lake with the bird singing in the background. The clicking and the squeaking of the gates and the sound of your crunching footsteps. Water lapping on the shore and those gorgeous mountains in the distance. What more could you want. Thank you Glenn for a lovely walk.

Your comment at around 27:25 mark is so true. A few years back when it was hot, the temperature drop heading through that area was remarkable.
I've mentioned it before but I'd love to see you do the Cumbria Way. Fingers crossed I'm doing it in the next few years.
You crack me up!! Shoes?? Manesty Woods is a lovely place. One can find some lovely spots in there for some solitude whilst enjoying the view.
As if we didn’t love you enough already. Sepultura! 🤘🏻

Thank you. Love the Dog and Gun for a beer and a single malt.
Ennerdale would be another good lake to do a round and one people often don't do. Never done a round of derwent but the highlight has to be the southern end when you get that view of Castle Crag

10 mile walk around Derwent water if you begin at Portinscale. Lots more videos of Keswick on my channel.
👍🏻
Once you’ve done the Wainwrights could you do a series on what’s left…if there is anything?? …The ones that got away.
One of the longer lakes to go around but at least there is a more or less consistent path! You may want to try Ennerdale Water -- if the cloud keeps hugging the higher tops --- as that one a lot of good paths around it.

Yes I went to Hawes end and my group actually won the orei orie ...map reading competition 😊 I am now 57 so a little bit ago !
Roots Bloody Roots 🤘
Glad I'm not the only one to catch the reference. What a classic.
One of my favourite all time walks in the lakes. Will be completing it again ina couple of weeks, tagging on Castle Crag, Suprise View, Ashness Bridge and Walla Crag.

Thank you for all your videos Glenn. Your channel is a source of great comfort and escapism for me.
Many thanks

Sad to see ashness jetty. That must have happened fairly recently. Interesting seeing it going that way round too
I nearly never found it as at some point i had to drop on and off the main road. Then chinese beidge was dlooded and had to walk all the way down to Borrowdale it was relentless.

Definitely would like to see you do a multi day hike. Would be really good for your channel. Get the wainwrights out the way first tho.
Thanks for showing this video which made me relive my walk a month ago. Amazing location.
Probably the most people you've seen on a walk for a while, good again though. Pity they have to use a yellow barrier re caravans but can see why they do it.Yes Cumbria Way be a good one.Hope your toe standing up.
Yes do it Cumbria way in 24 hrs would be great
I loved doing that walk. Super views. I would definitely do it again.

Definitely do the Cumbria Way, it’s on my bucket list of multi day hikes to do aswell 👍
Brilliant as usual......don't blame you not hitting the tops yet.....we got blown allover the place on the tops around Buttermere at the weekend
lovely walk Glenn - some wonderful views.. Couldn't agree more on innov8 boots... I have had many pairs and they are so comfortable and great grip but they don't last and always split in the same places - a real shame!

Hi Glen,
Thank you for you fabulous vlog as always
Such beautiful scenery and making me laugh as usual your humour is brilliant 🤩 lol to cute creepy house 🏡 def more creepy than cute!…..I would love to see a vlog on the Cumbria way 💙
loved you mentioned Thomas Heaton :-)

Thanks for all you do pal. Inspired me to do this a couple of weekends ago.

What a wonderful walk, but that burger almost stole the show. That looked so delicious! Looking forward to your gear review channel!
I would definitely be interested in a separate review channel you mentioned doing.
Great walk, not done it all in one go - just in sections but will do it as a complete walk soon
Brilliant video Glen! I'd really like to see more of these, especially somewhere like Buttermere or Wastwater!
Love watching your videos no matter where they are. Thank you
Great video as usual, I for one would like a Cumbria Way video,to take me back to when I walked it in 2022.
Done this couple of years ago but detoured up to ashness bridge and surprise view so ended up doing 14 miles😂🥾🥵
Glad I found this video im staying in portinscale next week and gonna do that walk now but anti clockwise to end up in Wetherspoons 😊
Please a Cumbria way video. That would be wonderful. I have seen a couple of videos of it and it's just an area that we don't see a lot on these videos (watching vicariously from Southern California)
Enjoyed that . Thanks . Please do the CW , and enjoy it 👍
Hi Glenn, Thanks for this, stayed in Borrowdale Hotel last year Easter time the weather was terrible so lots of low level stuff done with family and we did this walk it was great to learn what hills we were looking at….
wherever you walk is o.k with me. 20 laps of your garden and i would watch.you got me out walking so i will follow your channel
16:46 I got that reference!
Great video as always, would love to see you walk the Cumbria Way! Thanks, Mike
Lovely video as always Glen & fabulous end of video music choice 😀🎸 That whole Chinese Bridge end of the walk was completely submerged just before Christmas when I was last there. I completely understand the getting away from the crowds feelings. I’m always on the hunt for the quieter, less touristy hikes. Looking forward to seeing you back up high 😊
Fantastic walk mate although I was really hungry by the time we got to Lingholm Estate 😂 - Great to see the Brandelhow jetty repaired 👍👍👍
Another great video 😊
Definitely worth it!
The floorboards/duckpond mash-up had me chuckling 😂
Loving the videos and photography 👌🏼
Thank you so much, really appreciate that 🙏
I for one would definitely love to see you do the Cumbria way as im hoping to have a go my self sometime this year.🤪👍
That was a lovely adventure, Glenn.
Would love to see you do the Cumbria Way as it's something I quite fancy doing too 👌 another great video too 👍👍
Another great production 😃 whetted our appetites as we're Lake District bound on Wednesday. First visit of the year.
'Roots, bloody Roots', ha! Very good 👍
Awesome hike for any skill level.🇬🇧🇺🇸🍺
Thanks Glen for a great video definitely do the Cumbria way 👍 😀
Hi, another great video, ive been thinking of doing the cumbrian way this year myself, and not found many good instructional videos of it, ive walked all the wainwrights so know the lakes quite well, but unsure of the first stage to torver, so one of that section would be great haha 👍
Great video. We usually do this walk when the tops are clagged in and we've always done it anti clockwise from Keswick for some reason.
Great video this! Looks like my next cycle ride when I next get back over there
Happy Sunday , hope you and Finn are well ❤️. I’d love to do they walk but it’d take me forever to do 🤣🤣
Need to get me back up the lake district such a beautiful place 😊
HI Glenn, absolutely brilliant video mate, loved every minute of that. Another one for the to do list! Thank you for sharing, all the best, Dave.
Brings back happy memories, great video, so relaxing to watch. Great presenting 👌🏼
I would love to see you do a Cumbria Way video, especially as you would be able to say so much about the history of the various sections and places. I love my Inov8 shoes but I have heard their goretex versions fall apart after a couple hundred kilometers. If it's really wet and boggy I use my normal ones with waterproof socks.
