  • detailed instructions to replacing the leaky valve cover gaskets on your Audi A6
    valve cover bolt torque is 9nm or roughly 7 ft/lbs, 80 in/lbs. start at the middle plug and work your way out. (basically snug them down by hand nothing crazy) any questions feel free to email me at nosleepinc2020@gmail.com
    for questions or you would like the diagram of the tightening sequence.
    if oil keeps getting into the plug tubes after the gaskets replaces in the video are changed.
    then the lower tube gaskets must be replaced and involves removal of the camshafts and is an in depth repair by a trained professional. if it done incorrectly severe engine damage can happen!

    Great video. Picking up new gaskets for mine tomorrow, and with this video it feels a lot less daunting of a job on an engine I hardly know. :) Thanks! :)

    • @nsigarage5212

      I used a "mighty vac fluid extractor" because there was solo much oil in the tubes, you can also use paper towel to soak it up as much as you can. Then just remove the plug and wrap a rag around a screw driver swab the tube, lastly give it a blast of brake clean and it will flush down into the cylinder. It will smoke at start up, but it's fine. If you have any more questions feel free to email me at nosleepinc2020@gmail.com.

      Oil can damage the coil. You need to do a compression test and see if the cylinder is in good mechanical shape

      You can drill it and use an easy out, if your not comfortable with that they make stubbier twist out bits for stripped wood screws,. I'm not sure if there is room around the bolt for larger diameter turbo socket to grab the outside of the bolt
      Here is a link for new bolts. Any other questions feel free to email me at nosleepinc2020@gmail.com. good luck! There are more options as well

    Is there a torque setting for the valve cover bolts?

    • @nsigarage5212
      @nsigarage5212  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      9nm. Or 7ft lbs. Start from middle plug and work your way out. If you email me at nosleepinc2020@gmail.com I have a sequence diagram

    • @Apoindeed
      @Apoindeed 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a very specific order to torque the bolts in. Startimg from the middle to out is certainly not going to suffice and your valve covers will be leaking again soon enough. Even undoing them has to happen in the same order just in reverse. This is delicate machinery and i have had the pleasure of redoing jobs just because of a wrong torque order

    I was told by a shop that he would charge me 385 dollars for Labor. I asked how many hours? He said 4. I may be wrong but it looked maybe about and hour?

    • @nsigarage5212
      @nsigarage5212  ปีที่แล้ว

      If they go by book time which almost every shop does that is what it might cost, particularly if they are trying to cover their butt for when those brittle plastic breather hoses break, or are already cracked. Speed is developed through practice and skill. If on paper the job should take 4 hours and I did it in 2 because I am good, why should I make less money? I personally feel $385 would be a reasonable amount to pay for parts and labor (gaskets and plugs) more if the pipes break or the coils are shot from being oil soaked. I want to say this job took about 2.5-3hrs. Because of the cleaning of parts and fishing broken coil boot ends off of the plugs.

    • @TooBlessedToStress88
      @TooBlessedToStress88 ปีที่แล้ว

      My quote today 11/30/22 is 470.00 parts and labor. 100$ was the cost of parts.. talk about a little mark up.

  • @RomanTrollanski
    @RomanTrollanski 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well... If you get oil into the sparkplugs... Most likely you need to replace the gaskets under the camshafts, and the ANAEROBIC sealant as well. Changing only valve cover gasket, won't fix your problem.

    • @nsigarage5212
      @nsigarage5212  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you. The customer originally came for a tune up and the valve cover leaking on to the exhaust. I will add the lower gasket info into the discripton

    • @FlyyProductionss
      @FlyyProductionss 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are the gaskets under the camshafts called and would it be a job I could do from home? I dont have much experience in working on cars, but I did replace both of my valve cover gaskets in a decent time (like 2 hours or less). I also replaced my camshaft position sensor last week with no hiccups. I would just pay someone to do it but the closest place that'll work on mh car is almost 2 hours away and its an audi dealership.

    • @nsigarage5212

      I believe they are called spark plugs tube seals. It is really a professional job. If you are so much off 1 tooth on the timing chains you can basically total the engine
