  • I decided to try out one of the tiny Arrma kits, I picked up the Typhon Grom from my local hobby shop right after they were released and took it out on my track. So far it has proven tough and fun. I need to get back out with it and drive it some more with some softer shock oil but overall, I was very happy with it. I am not a big fan of the battery it comes with, but I think I may be swapping it out if I can find one that fits. I hope you all enjoy the video!

      It was a fun one to run and it ran really well. I swapped the shock oil out for a thinner oil and I think it will do better out there than next time out. Now I have to clean off the track of all the weeds! Arrma has has some good releases recently and their stuff is tough!

    Nice buggy! The smart batteries are expensive as well as the chargers. I invested in a bunch of the batteries and the dual charger for our modern day cars. More so because my kids can charge them by just plugging them in. The charger sets all of its own parameters. Usually charge time is a half hour. They also discharge themselves. Makes it a safe alternative for the boys to use when I am not around.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I totally get it for why they do it. They are a lot safer for kids and in general. As a hobbyist it annoys me when things become proprietary and I am forced to either buy the overpriced items or suffer with sub-par equipment. I loathe Traxxas and their stupid batteries and if they continue along this path at Horizon then I am going to stop buying their stuff to. I know I am being stubborn, it is the principle. Take care Keith and have a great weekend!

    Hi Addam, great video. They do provide everything you need to just take it out of the box and have fun, I am with you about charging the battery. Shouldn't have to purchase a new or specialized charger to charge 4 or fewer batteries. Tthat thing flew around the track like it owned it, took those turns very well. Now the end of the video where it got stuck time marker 17:40 reminds me of a little puppy trying to escape 😂😂😂. Thanks for putting a smile on my face, take care and I hope you have a great week.

    • @AddamsPlayground

      I took it out today in the commuter lot with both the regular tires and some hard drift tires! It was ripping on the regular tires and skating around on the drift tires! LOL!
      It was fun on the track, it did kind of look like a puppy trying to jump out of its crate!! LOL!! I need to get out and clean up the track some so it is not as lumpy-bumpy but the pollen has kept the outdoor stuff to required duties!! Man it is thick out there! I put in some thinner shock oil as well to free up the rebound so hopefully it won't hop and bounce on what bumps are left.
      I am glad you got a giggle out of the run and have a wonderful week!!!

      The minis are a different breed and are not for everyone. On a decent surface they are a blast, on really rough and lumpy stuff they get tossed around a bit too much. Once they start getting tossed around they begin to do Grasshopper things and dart off in the wrong direction without warning. It is a tough on and I think you and Mini would enjoy one but it will probably boil down to how expensive they are over there if it is worth the try. I am glad you enjoy the run, I did! Take care Craig!

      I get their side of it, safety and simplicity. Plus the possibility of selling a charger for them as well. I think the change is inevitable that they are going to keep making them less compatible with regular chargers over time. I will either use or buy different batteries or stop buying their products. I refuse to buy a specialty charger just to enjoy a kit. I'll shoehorn another battery in there or get rid of it all together!

  • @BangForYourBuckRc
    @BangForYourBuckRc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    These seem to be really nice rigs. I really like how they pretty much sealed the body to the chassis and this doesn’t allow a lot of debris inside the chassis. The battery issue is a valid gripe I think. Kind of a Traxxas type of thing to do. 😠😂 It certainly scoots along nicely doesn’t it? Like your color choice as well. Would love to see this on a carpet track, I bet it would fare quite well! Have a great weekend Addam ✌🏼😎👍🏻

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It looks and run s very well and the clipless body system is great. The tight fitting body did super well to keep dirt and tiny ricks out of the body. Normally I have to give them the "smack and shake" a few time to get most of the stuff out from the chassis. This one I did nothing to see what was in there when i got inside and it was cleaner than many after it clean them up! LOL!
      The battery thing annoys me. I get what the thought is, they are safer batteries for kids but the forcing you to end up waiting a day to charge it or buy one of their overpriced chargers is stupid and annoying! I have a swollen traxxas battery sitting there now as I have no idea what the charge level was in it and it puffed up some. I refuse to buy another and will be modding the car to take a regular battery from urgenix or something.
      On a small groomed track or a carpet track it would be a lot of fun. It is a great size to take anywhere and make up your own track where ever you end up! Take care Robby and have a great weekend.

    I've been on the fence about the small RC's. I guess because years ago I've had a Losi Mini-T. Not fast probably a little ahead of its time. But now they are neat. I imagine 2 or 3 on your track would be fun.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The small ones are a bit slower and struggle with the grass but one a track or a driveway "track" they are a load of fun! Some sidewalk cahlk to mark out a some corners and it would be a blast. I think with some thinner oil in the shocks and me grooming out the lumps and ruts on the track it will be a really fun one. It looked to cool and interesting to not try one out! The only let down was the battery, not a fan of batteries where you have to buy their charger for it. I am trying to fid a replacement that will fit and I may have, it is less than half the price of the normal battery as well!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is a cool buggy. The battery is very specific for this due to the space allowed under the body. That is the reason for no balance plug on it. Fingers crossed the replacement I bought will fit in there. I really don't want to be stuck with this battery. I have smaller options that may work too but may limit run time.

    I’m not a huge fan of the kinda proprietary battery deal, but I’ll live with the included charger because I’m not shilling out for a smart charger!😂

    I enjoyed the video. It's a great looking car and I think it would be a lot of fun. Arrma may make a relative cheap charger for the small batteries, I am not positive about that. I have one request and one suggestion. I realize this was a quick vide. But, I would've like to see a quick close up of the esc, servo, fan etc. You probably did this, but I would suggest you turn the steering travel down a little.

    • @AddamsPlayground

      It is a great looking and well running little buggy. Some thinner oil in the shocks and it should handle the track a bit better. I refuse to buy specialty chargers, it is a principle thing and a stubbornness thing! I do not like being forced into buying specialty items or hop-up parts just to make a kit work properly. I may have found a replacement battery that will work and if it does then I can get two batteries for less then the rice of one of the smart ones. I can also send this one to someone else using them. I will keep in mind the internal pics in the next video. Not something I really thought of for this one. I will try dialing back the steering one the next run as well! Take care Michael and have a great weekend!

    Yeah, man, what a nice video, basically a perfect presentation of a perfect buggy! I'm so excited to see when I get mine, so far it just says back order on the website...
    It did so well on your track! It's the longest wheelbase 14th scale buggy I have seen so far and I just think the proportions are right on it, including motor power. It flew great on your jump!
    And regarding the battery, I think I might never even take mine in use, I have plenty small batteries already. That proprietary system is just annoying! And a heads-up, as far as I could see on the groups, that tiny little charger things has caused a few fires already. Each time I buy a new cheapo China car, first thing I do is discard the charger, I might do same for this one.
    But all in all, a very exciting new product in the RC world.

      It was a blast to run Mads, you will enjoy it. It is not the fastest thing in the world but has plenty of get up and go and was a lot of fun. Some thinner shock oil should help it on my tack but I am sure they went with a thicker one for the skate park bashers to net destroy it out there! I do not like charging batteries at all on the USB style chargers, I much prefer the tech in my larger chargers as a safety feature. I am looking for a good battery for it to give folks a replacement idea. I do have some tiny ones that will work but want t find something close to the stock size. I found one so far and will give it a try to see if it will fit. It is very close but slightly wider so I am not sure!
      It is gorgeous little buggy and the clipless body system is very nice and shell fitment is top notch to keep out a lot of dirt and rocks. Take care Mads and hope they show up soon for you!

      It is a super cool looking and good running little buggy. For the size it handled the bumpy track very well, much better than any other small on I have had out there. The radio is a good fit for it, no frills but just what you need and it is small to be able to toss in a backpack along with the car easily. The tires look to be a good all around tire and they dug in pretty well on the track but would work great on the tarmac as well. It is a cool little buggy and there is a ton I like about it but that battery does annoy me! It is more than half the size of a normal 2s pack and the spot it goes in is rather limited. Does look like a fun kit! Pretty great price too for a kit like that. Is it too light? I see it’s spinning out quite a bit so maybe weight is an issue? But wow…it’s pretty quick right out of the box!

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It seems to be a very and fun little kit. It is a on the lighter side being a smaller one. Some of the random spin out was it getting tossed around on the lumps and clumps of weeds growing up out there. The rest was me hammering the throttle too much or a combination of both! LOL! It is a peppy little thing and will slide around on the pavement as well. I put in some thinner oil in the shock to help it roll over the lumps and bumps a bit better, it comes with pretty thick oil in there stock. I am sure they do it to save the car from big jumps and skate park bashing that I am sure a lot of them will see. So the rebound of the shocks was very slow so instead of moving up and over the bumps it was getting bounced up over them. It may help, the next track run will tell. I have to get out and spend a lot of time cleaning up the track, it is a complete mess with all the spring growing up on it!

      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was a little squirrely but that is fairly normal for the little ones out there. The stock oil in the shocks is a bit thicker than I run normally. I think it causing it to bounce a bit more and not skitter over the lumps like it should. A quick change of that and I will get it back out. I am trying to find a replacement battery to fit in there. I ordered one but it is going to be tight. I hate the need for special chargers, it is one of the reasons I hate Traxxas! I know why they use the smart batteries for safety and all but they need to allow for the use of a dumb charger to work with them! It is a fun little buggy and it looks great! The battery was the only let down of it. Grom is a "little guy" or kind of a "newbie" term. I know the first time I heard it was on the Honda Grom cycle lineup and I think it was a surfer slang for little guy.

      @AddamsPlayground 'little guy'...that makes sense! Yeah, the battery thing. I can understand the simplicity of using a 'smart' system on a beginner's buggy, especially with a LIPO battery. I also totally agree that the use of specialized connectors is very limiting. It would be a nice option if they supplied an adapter that would allow these single-lead smart batteries to be charged using a regular dumb charger OR if they provided the consumer a choice of buying the GROM without a battery. Neither will happen...but maybe someone has figured out the adapter/converter thingy? Having said all that, I do own a Traxxas charger, and as much as I dislike their batteries, it is a nice charger. I use it all the time for my larger capacity batteries. The Bluetooth connectivity and app are really nice features, too! I am too old to be bothered to convert everything to XT or EC connectors. 😋

      Thanks Pete, it was a pretty fun one and it looks super cool! I am looking for a battery to fit it now. There are lots of tiny ones but I am trying to find one that is almost a direct fit, sadly it is a small and odd sized one but I did find one that looks very close so I may get it an try it out. It is less than half the cost of one of the smart batteries. I do work in IT security, take a look at Deloitte UK. I am not sure if there are any openings but They do have a great tech side to them and are a great company to work for. All my work and experience is state side but I know they have locations over there. Best of luck my friend and have a great weekend.

    Looks a great buggy, think it deffo needs thinner oil in it ? But the battery issue would be a big no no from me. If i cant use my batterys in a car, i aint getting one. Hopefully these manufacturers will soon realise this big flaw 😡

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is a great looking one and It did much better on the track than any other small one I have had out there. Some thinner oil should help it skitter over the rough bits instead of bouncing around as much. I also need to get out there and do some spring maintenance on it and kill off all stuff growing on it, that will help out a ton too! This is a very specific size battery and I am struggling to find a replacement to fit it. I may have one that will work, I will see soon. I refuse to be a brand specific charger. I known they are supposed to be safer batteries which is great but to limit me to either a snail charger that comes with the kit or buy an overpriced specialty one is a jerk move. It is one of the reasons I have shunned Traxxas and their idiocrasy!

      I have tons of them for smal devices but none that were high output like these need. I finally ordered a few. I also solved the battery problem totally by replacing the "smart" one with a better "dumb" one I can charge with any of my chargers in half the time.

    Basically you have an almost useless battery once you change plugs. I guess Arma and other manufacturers think they'll sell more of their $$ batteries and $$ chargers to those new to the hobby who don't know how to switch out plugs. Looks like a cool little RC otherwise.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I refuse to buy a specialty charger. It is one of the list of reasons I hate Traxxas. If they continue this then I will stop buying the cars with the smart batteries. I am sure they eliminated the balance port to fit the battery in here but since my main charger refused to charge it, it is going to get replaced by something else. I have one on the way I hope will fit. If it does I will definitely let you all know as it is less than half the price of the smart battery!!

    Hello, I was wondering what the length and width of your track is? I'm moving to a new home next year and I'm hoping to have enough space to run 1/10 buggies. If I could have something like you have I'd be a very happy man.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not a problem, it is 42 foot long and 32 feet wide. I made it with 6 foot wide lanes to be have plenty of room for both bad driving and for room for more than one to be out there at a time. The length was just to be able to fit the whole track in frame of the camera. I had more room but did not want it to be too far away to not see what was happening! I hope you have enough room as it is a lot of fun to be able to stroll out back and run on a track any time you wish. It is a good deal of work to get it in but worth it!

    So it has two fans one on the ESC and one blowing air through the body

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I know a lot of folks say their shocks have leaked but mine are holding up well still on the few I have. I do not run them all the time either so that is probably some of it as well. This one does not have an ESC fan but doe have the fan situated in between the ESC and motor blowing over the motor. So it should be drawing air in from the front and exhausting it out of the back. The motor was hot at the end of the run but not overly hot, it was not overheating or anything like the Granite when I got it.

    • @AddamsPlayground
      @AddamsPlayground  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have you seen the prices of RC cars in regular stores?? There is not a lot of difference in the price now, of course the hobby grade ones are more expensive but is repairable and not a throw-away item like store bought ones. That and little kids can actually learn from these, skills they can actually use in life later on instead of short term entertainment. They get plenty of that already. So I respectfully, whole heartedly disagree with a kit like this or any other low end kit. I don't think a 12 year old needs a $650 4s or 6s basher at all but I do think they deserve more than a chunk if Walmart disposable plastic.

For the basher kits I don't mind as much but for the regular 2wd buggies I much prefer the classic rear cab style and not the cab forward of the modern ones. It is no more alien than the Tamiya Dual Ridge I have LOL!!
