  • From the 1974 10cc album "Sheet Music".
Lyrics: Hey toots, you put the life into living
You brought a sigh into sight
Ah hon, you make my legs turn to water
You bring the stars out at night
But they ain't half so bright
    As your eyes
Gee whiz, you take the beauty out of beautiful
You play the strings of my heart
Oh babe, you take the wonder out of wonderful
Oh my, oh my, and my, if you were mine
The rain would turn to sweet sweet wine
Well he's been up all night
Breakin' his head in two to write
A little sonnet for his chickadee
    But between you and me
    I think its sssssssssssilly. Silly
Ooh treas, you got a smile like a Rembrandt
Aha, you got the style of a queen
Oh dear, you are the petal of a rosebud
Next to you all the others could be weeds
You're the only one my garden needs
Ooh, you know the art of conversation
    Must be dying
Ooh, when a romance depends on
    Cliches and toupees and threepes
We're up to here with moonin' and junin'
If you want to sound sincere -
    Don't rely on Crosby's croonin' -
    Take a little time
    Make up your own rhyme
    Don't rely on mine
    'Cos it's sssssssssilly - silly - silly - silly

This band "ploughed their own furrow" very avant garde in their day, choosing innovation over chart success which they did as well. always thought 10cc was one of the best bands ever to come out of the UK

I don't why people post silly comments like "They were the worst band in the world"....He obviously isn't or wasn't a musician. They are all talented musicians to this day. One of the best innovative and melodious bands that the UK ever produced..

As another guy on here says: 'The Worst Band In The World' was a song of theirs. If that phrase is associated with 10cc, that is the reason.

10CC: brilliant lyrics, humor, great music, perfect team of musicians, great album. I was too young to fully understand at the time it was released but it is one of my favourites.

This album was released 10 years before my conception. I think these guys were in a class of their own.
      Fantastically original and dynamically creative.
      They could only be 10cc

    • @eddieingalls534
      @eddieingalls534 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Good summation. I think it also was quite unique how the 10CC musicians did not - as did ALL other stars of the 70s - try to become the focus themselves, they were happy to let the music be the focus.
At the time we just were not able to accept such a more mature projection of music.

I agree with everything here except for your spelling of "humour", lol... What a great band. I grew up with them, always loved the way they sounded, but it wasn't until I became more "aware" that I realised just how great just about every song is. So clever, so "tongue in cheek" so often. And, tbh, once I got to know a bit of music theory, I flipped out.
On another level, though, they made some of my favourite singles ever. I bought lots of vinyl singles. I lashed out on "Deceptive Bends", the album, and never regretted it, even though money was tight in those teenage days .
One of my very favourite "greatest hits" albums is 10CC. THAT'S when you realise how brilliant they were. Ok, nuff said

It's difficult picking the best from what are all brilliant albums, but they experimented so much that it's almost like oranges and apples. Sheet Music just has the edge - lyrically alone, every single song is a masterpiece. (I recall Godley and Creme interviewed years ago & saying Somewhere In Hollywood was their favourite of ones they wrote). Got them all on vinyl too will never part from them. First band I got seriously into and still love playing their music.

It's like, i love what i am listening to at the time and it's really hard to compare. Which i suppose is what makes them as brilliant as they are. One thing is for sure....Utterly superb !!. :-)

Great album. well produced, well written, well sung and played--and funny without being stupid. Its an album that gets about-- poking fun at terrorists; sending up pop itself, and generally reflecting a pretty selfish society in a concise ironic way. In my view, 10cc became too self indulgent after Sheet music. There were occasional gems, but more and more clunky attempts at humour. Pity. But that's pop music folks.

+Dazzwidd - Ohh Trace you got a smile like a Rembrandt, aha you got the style of a Queen... I know the lyric sheet agree's with you but it's clearly Trace(y) Tres would have a 'ee' sound that's just not there whereas Trace has the A and C sounded clearly although it could be Tres if pronounced as Trace or 'Trays' aa (Teresa) maybe she was a waitress? who knows? its not important it's a great album, over 10,000 views on the playlist!
