Love this masterpiece. I was 15 in 1975. Just started dating the most beautiful 14 year old girl on the planet. Heard this song as I rode my bicycle back from her house every night. I'm 63 now. She's 62. Married forever. She's still the most beautiful girl on the planet and we still listen to this song together and it takes us back to the summer of '75.❤
I myself was 15 when this song came out. I try to explain to a younger generation and even to some of my colleagues from my own age group just how magnificent the music was from 1975 to 1995 but words are not enough. If you were lucky enough to have experience this song and many many others like it as a young adult then you were truly blessed. Thank you for posting your memory. It brought back some of my own.

"I'm Not In Love" by 10cc, released in 1975, is a classic rock ballad that stands out for its innovative production, lush arrangements, and the unique story behind its creation. The song was written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman, and its recording process was nothing short of groundbreaking. The story begins with Stewart's exploration of a new piece of recording equipment, the Ericsson Vocoder, which allowed him to manipulate and blend sounds in innovative ways. During a recording session, Stewart began experimenting with the device, creating a sonic landscape by layering vocal harmonies and other sounds. The band soon realized they had stumbled upon something special and decided to build a song around these experimental recordings. The distinctive vocal sound that permeates "I'm Not In Love" was achieved by recording the voices of Stewart, Gouldman, and other band members singing a multitude of notes. Each singer was asked to sustain a single note for as long as possible, resulting in a vast collection of vocal tones. These recordings were then mixed and manipulated using the Ericsson Vocoder, creating the ethereal and choir-like vocal texture that became a defining element of the song. Lyrically, "I'm Not In Love" is a complex exploration of love and denial. The protagonist of the song insists that they are not in love, yet the repeated refrain of the title suggests a tension between the denial and the underlying emotions. The lyrics capture the ambivalence and vulnerability inherent in matters of the heart, making the song relatable to a wide audience. The recording process of "I'm Not In Love" was painstaking and meticulous. The band utilized a unique technique of creating a sonic mural, layering tracks upon tracks to achieve a rich and immersive sound. The result was a groundbreaking piece of work that defied conventional expectations of what a pop song could be. Upon its release, "I'm Not In Love" became a massive hit, reaching the top of the charts in multiple countries. Its success was not only due to the captivating production but also the emotional resonance of the song. The innovative use of vocal techniques and production methods in "I'm Not In Love" set it apart as a trailblazer in the world of pop music, influencing subsequent generations of musicians and producers. "I'm Not In Love" remains a timeless classic, celebrated for its artistry, innovation, and ability to capture the complexities of human emotions. The song's enduring popularity is a testament to its status as a groundbreaking piece of musical history.

My God we had no idea what was to become of this world... none of us had anything fancy yet everyone seemed happy and genuine. I was 10 when this song came out but it truly feels like it was just yesterday.
So true. It was a simple life and world. This song brings me back to being 18 and in love. Immediate joyful memories. Our world is radically different now.
3:48 I use to stay upstairs in my room and across the street was a friends house and the boy I liked would go to his home. I waited a long time for him But my parents sold our home and I never saw him again. Yes this song makes me remember waiting a long time.
@@pattyoconnell1953 When I was six and in first grade, there was a boy in my classroom who was so different from the other kids. I was a little girl, but I felt this little boy's spirit. One day, he was no longer in our classroom. He and his family moved from Chicago to the suburbs in the fall of 1973. I felt that he would have been the only one who I could relate to, and I was right. I never saw him again, but met some of his neighbors in a restaurant who told me that he was still a very kind, quiet, humble person who married a very good woman. I felt that at that point, I would be eaten by savages...and I was.
I particularly remember hearing this song for The Very First Time, coming from my neighbor's radio back in 1975 when I was only an 11 year old kid.I was playing in the backyard with My Beloved Siblings on a Beautiful White Clouded Sunny Day, and Being So Happy 😊 and thinking How Truly Beautiful The Moment, and Life was at That Moment. I'll Never Forget That Day, I felt like I was In Heaven, and I Truly was at that moment in time. Thank you 10cc for making This Beautiful song that is Cemented in My Memory Forever.🥰🥰👍👍👍!!!

I remember this song way back when, I was seeing Darlene off and on for years, and kept telling myself that"I'm not in love" But I truly was, I have been married to Darlene now for 21+ years.
This song should definitely be put in a time capsule (along with so many other singers, composers and bands' masterpieces) and then be sent to space as a sample of the beautiful things this civilization did.
Plenty of people write songs like this even in 2023. But none of them get to be recorded and become global hits because the world doesn't work that way anymore.

@@melvinbrown1347 Not saying there were no effects, nor was the engineering particularly unique, Zappa did this a lot.

I was 17 in 1975, one of the best songs from that year. I'll be 65 soon, I still remember all the words. The 70's had some of the greatest music.
Same here, i was in Knebworth Park in the UK in 1976 when 10cc played there, i was working for Artistes Services on security & i can remember exactly where i was when 10cc started playing this song. Everytime i walk past the same spot it takes me back to the summer of 1976, Happy days!!. And 10cc were much better than the Rolling Stones who played later in the day!
Yo tambien cumplire 65 años. Y me sigue gustando esta melodia. Hermosa😍♥️
I’m “only” 60…I clearly remember being totally captivated by the atmospheric sound of this song, and even if I couldn’t fully grasp the lyrics, LOL. My being about 13 and rather slow on the uptake hardly negates the fact that this song is iconic…
