Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
"There must be some kind of way out of here"
Said the joker to the thief
"There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief
Businessmen they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None will level on the line
Nobody offered his word"
Hey!
[Verse 2]
"No reason to get excited"
The thief, he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But, uh, but you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us stop talkin' falsely now
The hour's getting late
Hey!
[Guitar Solo]
Hey!
[Verse 3]
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants too
Well, uh, outside in the cold distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
And the wind began to howl
Hey!
[Outro]
All along the watchtower
All along the watchtower

That type of thing is always a double edged sword though. Yes, on balance I agree it's preferable to live in an age where these sort of things that you love can be enjoyed instantly wherever you are. However, there's something about having to wait for things that enhances your appreciation of them. There's no perfection in life.

Bob Dylan himself said it after 1st hearing Jimi perform "All Along The Watchtower" - "It's Jimi's song now". Humble guy.
There could have been no greater compliment RIP Jimi and Mitch
Unfortunately this is also the best Jimmi song and it is not even his
Gordon Lightfoot once said that about me about "Early Morning Rain." I watched his documentary. He seems like a good person to me. If I could shake all these hitters, maybe I could make some cash...
The best part of this is that Bob really wasn't that humble of a guy. That's what makes his reaction to this version so much more interesting.

There's no shame in covering Dylan

It’s considered a “compliment” to perform someone else’s music, a reverence if you will…
He learnt how to play the Sgt Peppers album in a weekend, and played it to Paul 3 days after it was released!
Bob Dylan himself came to regard this song as a Hendrix song, even though Dylan wrote it.
Not many people know it, but Jimi Hendrix was perfectionist when it comes to this song. Studio people tried to rush him (because time and tape were both expensive) but story has it that he had over 50 takes on this song with just the guitar parts to make it absolutely perfect, the way he wanted it to be in his mind. Safe to say, you can hear it. Absolute perfection in every possible way.

Indeed, this album is a staple in terms of production, easily one of the 10 greatest rock albums of the 60s, along with Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Ummagumma, or Tommy. Jimi infuriated some staff members because they didn’t understand his ideas, so he had to go to the control room to make the adjustments and to mix the sounds by himself. Noel Redding got fed up and quit shortly after. But this album is one of the greatest landmarks in psychedelic experimental music, and a clear precursor for progressive rock and heavy metal. “1983 A Merman I Should Turn To Be” is Jimi’s opus magnum.

I love it because Hendrix always wanted to be Dylan. He was like his superman growing up. He wanted to act, perform, and write just like Dylan did. In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way ... No higher compliment than that. Wow.
@@danzinder179 absolutely deserved
@@mishanya9495 100%. For my money, if there's a better rock song I haven't heard it.

Unforgettable, breathtakingly beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can wake me up in the middle of the night for this and I will never complain......
Wish his family allowed more songs to be on TH-cam. I feel like Jimi would want all his music to be available for everyone to hear.
How many aren't allowed on youtube?
You mean the guy who headlined Woodstock, a free music festival to share the love of the sound?
Yeah... I think he'd be just fine with it being on here.
Unquestionably
@@brianwalendy3735 He headlined Wododstock for 500 000 dollars.
@@portatherippl438 Woodstock generated over 20M so 500k for a headliner isn't asking much.
I saw him in Miami in 1969 , ALL wired out on orange sunshine 2 hits GREAT Concert !!!!!!!!!!!
gordon earnest You are so lucky
I'm born too late
You are insanely lucky man! I'm very jealous
Was that when he was dressed in white with the the white strat?
My mum met and shook hands with Jimi in a club in London in the late 60s. He was wearing a flame orange satin suit and a hat with a feather in it. She shook hands! When she told me my response was "and you WASHED IT"? She met quite a few back then as a band whose name has just fallen from my mind, had a roadie who lived in the same flats as us. I remember her (tho she wishes I didn't) going to see Ravi Shanka in Covent Garden whilst she was wearing an orange sari! Peace dudes especially the old uns from back then. Rock on; I hope to.
you islander???
Rock means poetry.....and jimi is a great poet no doubt of it..........
After just listening to Dylan do the original and now Jimi the cover alternate arrangement, it dawned on me that Jimi used his guitar to over fill the harmonica parts from Dylan. MEGA TALENT (both of them) 👏👏👏
"Two riders were approaching and the wind began to howl" just as Rorschach and Night Owl are walking through the snow
Elijah Neveski i read that right as those lyrics were being sung at first i was spooked but then realized thats just the pure magic of Hendrix
Dominic McLennan they aren't even his lyrics.
Reegan Kay not the whole thing i read that comment as hendrix said "two riders were approaching and the wind bagan to howl" thats whats spooked me
Elijah Neveski it was in the graphic novel too. Watchmen's soundtrack was on point
Can be that they made that scene because of that Lyric
Damn, this song is nearly 50 years old.

This song and johnny cash’s hurt cover are rare instances where the cover is arguably better than the original song
10eo _ that would be great. Maybe it’s been done before but I’m not sure
My wife and I are in our eighties and this is one of our all time favourites. Thank you Jim

Dylan has described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day."
In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way."

Cool to read that...ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER!!! DIG IT MORE NOW! Eric Underwood class of 81 Downey High School
I think hendrix would drop lsd and play ALOT. He was said to have his guitar in his hand 24/7 this gave him a new perspective on teh sounds a guitar was possible of making, the rest is history.
@@Huxtee7 can you tell me what sounds hendrix discovered for the guitar? Nice post btw

I am truly saddened when I hear people at my school listening to Nikki Minaj, Beiber, and One direction. They are so brainwashed and can not appreciate real music that requires the soul and pure talent. Jimi Hendrix you were a Legend.
Let them enjoy their music, who are you to judge? I hate that stuff as well but let them enjoy it if they do, you cant call their music ''fake music'' if you dislike it.
zoolookers you cant deny its way worst music, no soul , anyone write this today crap, and they just show it in media, you expect people to hear good music? they ear is reped and unsensitive
I do agree with you, it is bad music in my opinion, but shouldnt we just enjoy our own music instead of focusing on other peoples musical tastes?
zoolookers finally someone who agrees that no genre of music is inherently superior to another
Alex Cargill musical genres dont exist for me, only bad and good music, today is crap.
This is four minutes of pure unadulterated musical ecstacy.
