Some fun behind the scenes for y'all; this video was shot entirely on the S9, using that MP4 Lite codec. It was also shot without a tripod, so the steadiness (or lack thereof, depending on your standards) is down to the IBIS and Boost IS features. -- Mitchell

I felt that the 3:2 aspect ratio pretty charming, the colors are quite nice as well.

What's the point of making a small camera without small lenses?

  • @VictorVonVulfgang

No mechanical shutter, no EVF, coldshoe (fo' real, in 2024?), only one dial. As much as I like Panasonic, this is an even bigger miss than the G100. What were they thinking? This is unacceptable for a 1500$+ camera.
Tho props to the engineers managnng to fit in the BLK22 and ibis in such a small body.

This category of camera has been around for a while now. Yet camera manufacturers still can’t get it right! I think Sony are the only one that gets close.

impressive this is a FF camera at this size. However, at this price. user is likely has a flagship smartphone that can shoot photos and videos as good. I'm also sensitive to blown highlights which smartphones handles so well but not on digital cams.

Note: I'm pretty disappointed with this camera as I had hoped for something like an A7C II, which is essentially a mini-A7 IV without major sacrifices - unlike the S9, which sacrified just too much. Nevertheless, I think your two statements do need feedback:
"user is likely has a flagship smartphone that can shoot photos and videos as good" - nope, a current smartphone can NEVER deliver so good image quality as the Lumix. I got an iPhone 14 PM and have been shooting with it some serious videos. I very thoroughly compared it to my Lumix S5M2's video output. There's simply no comparison: the iPhone produces overcontrasty and super-oversharpened mess.
"I'm also sensitive to blown highlights which smartphones handles so well but not on digital cams" - yup, that IS an issue and you must always shoot vlog, sometimes with additional exp. comp. (just keep zebras on!) and do proper exp. compensation in post. It works very well. While my S5M2 is also very easily overexposes things in any picture mode except vlog, now that I exlusively use vlog and properly pp the footage, I have a LOT less burnout issues than before. It's only in rare cases that I do have burn skies now and fortunately those cases can already be recognized during shooting; that is, when you still quickly dial-in additional exp. compensation.

@@mostlyfinnishlifeeventsand5112 I do get Panasonic's aim here, full frame interchangeable at the smallest size they can.
I've seen a couple of videos of comparing flagship phones to FF cameras. while the differences are obvious at 100% view, I doubt it on a viewing size of my 42inch 4k TV and virtually none when viewed on phone's display. I'm reluctant to spend a lot on flagship electronics but I find my $200 Android phone shoots images pretty close to my 24MP APS-C Nikon with kit lens.
True, v-log or low contrast picture modes do help on challenging scenes. I use it all the time on the first ever DJI Mavic Pro drone.

Disappointing that this camera stripped of a hot shoe mount, and EVF, and sensible ergonomics seems to have exactly one kind of creator in mind. While you can always swap lenses, the pancake lens paired with this camera is a FIXED APERTURE f8 lens. A fact glossed over by most reviewers. I think it won’t take long for its limited feature set will be found wanting by most photographers and videographers…

Worse, it’s a fixed f8 manual focus, with no focusing guide marks except 0.25 and infinity, and no indication of hyperfocal distances, and, even worse, you have to rely on either magnifying the view on the lcd or hoping focus peaking (which apparently is hard to see) to check focus.
Maybe some reviewers were afraid if they were too critical about that their return flight would be cattle class and very, very long.

Nice primer on this cute little pig. It’s Panasonic going after the X100 or other Fuji lines with the LUT jpg controls but no EVF or shutter means it’s crippled. I’ll take a Fuji at the same price thanks.

This camera is way too expensive for the fundamental faults it has. This should be 800 dollars with its lack of features. No headphone jack, hot shoe or EVF make it a joke at this price point. They could have made it the basically same size with these features if they want to charge that. This camera is a mistake in positioning.
