Wonderful perfomance of two movie stars Mario Lanza and Kathryn Grayson in THE TOAST OF NEW ORLEANS (1950). This is the second time they sing this song in the film.
Their first performance of this great song was the very first time I'd ever heard such singing. I vowed, right then and there, that I'd learn to sing like that, and, now, I finally have, all thanks to the inspiration I received from Miss Grayson and Mr. lanza's performance in "That's Entertainment".:) God bless them both!
I know of no star today that could compare to these two singers it's just amazing there must be something wrong with younger people theaters but they don't hear the difference between singing and what they play today

Absolutely stunning performance! I can't decide whether I prefer this or the first time they sing it in the film. Probably this time because I LOVE their harmonies together earlier in the song as well as Kathryn's higher notes in this one. The first one is sort of more cinematic somehow though, both stellar performances by two stunning professional performers.
So sorry to hear of Miss Grayson's passing. She was always one of my favorite stars in the MGM constellation. I had the pleasure of meeting her back in the 1980's..I have a treasured photo of her with me, next to Miss Ruby Keeler.
Never ever will we see the likes of this again. Never! It takes my breath away. Hollywood today cannot shine their shoes next to the likes of this n these movies.

I suspect your source is incorrect. I lived in Santa Monica, Cal. for 30 years, and I knew Kathryn. I spoke with her at length many times. She often talked of her time singing with Mario Lanza and she voiced admiration for him, and certainly admired his voice. She absolutely never mentioned any animosity.
Mario Lanza never had to adjust his voice to accommodate Kathryn Grayson's. They sang beautifully together, although her voice was so strong she did at rare times overpower him.
By Miss Grayson's own admission she once stated that Lanza and her voice was a perfect blend and the best she ever performed with. They were both great
Grayson was never bewitched by being in the movies. She regarded it as job, not glamour, and to every film she ever did she brought all her best in terms of preparation, rehearsal, focused performance and personality. She was well-known for her humor and her being willing to complain, not be complaint, when something was not being done right. You'll never find any scene in any film where she does not look great and is not doing her very best.

Wow! Great singing. Deanna Durbin, Sissel, Julie Andrews, and Katheryn are the best! Mario was up there with the greats too like Jussi and Enrico.
