On the night he died we always visited some friends When I got there my wife to be told me to sit down and then told me the saddest of news Mario had died I’ve never forgot that night and I still love his voice What a shame he died so youngMaybe if I get to heaven he will be there to sing for me
there will never be another singer anywhere near as good as Mario Lanza was.The clutches of Hollywood was to destroy him, but he bounced back in Italy.. what a beautiful family he had, all so pretty and handsome. The worst thing too was his wife dying from a broken heart.4 children left with. o parents, now three of them have passed away too.Mario,s voice will go on forever.
The day after Mario died all 4 of his children came to school, Marymount, and as his eldest daughter's best friend (Colleen) I was surprised at this. The Lanzas lived in Via Bruxelles... In the villa built for Generale Badoglio.... Which was very close to where my family lived. Consequently, from 1957 to 1959 I went over many times to their villa and played with my schoolmate. I was totally unaware at the time that I would meet one of the most inspirational tenors of the era.... But I was only 9 years old! Both Betty and Mario seemed very loving parents and cared for their children very much. RIP Mario, Betty,Colleen, Damon and Mark. ELISSA.... you are a courageous lady. Fiona Finn

Benny Hill The work of M. In an interview on French television December 12, 1984, Pavarotti said: "For me, the three greatest tenors of the world were, Caruso, Gigli and Lanza" The critic Charles Osborne wrote in a study entitled " The Art and Voice of Mario Lanza ": If he had lived elsewhere in Hollywood, where at another time, or both, Mario Lanza was a serious rival for Corelli or Gigli, or even Caruso. I heard over great opera houses and famous tenors, Nessun dorma ... and Di quella pira , much less well sung. " February 28, 2013, during his "Little Italy" concert at the Zenith in Pau, Roberto Alagna paid tribute to Great Mario Lanza , interpreting one of his unforgettable songs: The Loveliest Night Of The Year . Roberto Alagna said, "It is by seeing films like The Great Caruso , shot by superstar tenor Mario Lanza I took the virus of opera. ursmue1937 GRAZIE GRAZIE per aver scritto tutte quelle cose su Mario Lanza alcune le sapevo... non tutte.
An unbelievable voice. I'm coming on 79 but years ago (definitely not now) I remember making love whilst listening to his voice many times. Tis only a memory now. Mores the pity .
Yes great tenors but they never had the voice or the versatility of lanza. Jussi was the only who came closes but he still lacked excitment in his voice and was not a big voice
What sets Lanza apart from other Tenors was that when he sang, he sang like a kid who's just discovered how to ride a bike or do a back flip; he can't help but show off. He never held back; where most singers never give you 100%, he sang as if each note would be his last. Some of his covers are a bit over the top, as if he were on steroids. Check out his version of "Oh Holy Night". It sounds like it's being sung by a crazy man. Some opera buffs think that Lanza was overly emotional in his singing.

Lanza died young but he got much better as an artist towards the end of his young life. He has much better style and musicality towards the end. Here he betrays his lack of good coaching. The music departments at MGM allow him to butcher the music. Normally a guy with this much talent would study for years before he hit the concert or opera circuit. Mario was prematurely whisked away to Hollywood. But he was always inherently musical. He got better.
You are showing you ignorance here. Why do people persist in this 'lack of training' rubbish. He studied singing assiduously for seven years (ten if you count his three years in the military) with some of the finest teachers. Koussevitsky was so impressed when he heard him that he gave him a full scholarship to The Berkshire School of Music at Tanglewood, Mass. He spent sixteen months with Enrico Rosati (teacher of Gigli, among others.) He started his concert career about that time and was well on his way to his operatic career by the time the Hollywood Bowl event (his 200th concert, incidentally) was set up for Louis B. Mayer to hear him. Even then, the contract with MGM was for only six months a year, with the other six months free for him to pursue his operatic ambitions. This didn't happen though, because much to everyone's surprise, and to the chagrin of most of MGM's directors, who did not share Mayer's enthusiasm for the project and expected Lanza to flop, his films were immediate smash hits. Consequently he got caught up in the maw of the giant MGM publicity machine and no time was available for his other career. All he managed was two performances as Pinkerton in Madam Butterfly in 1948 in New Orleans. He had many invitations from opera houses over the years and at the time of his death was in negotiations with The Rome Opera to open their 1960 season, but this was not to be. Anyone who knows anything about singing can attest to the quality of the voice and to his innate musical sense. In many people's opinion he would have been among the greats of the opera scene had things been different.

DESTA FORMA NAO PRECISOU DA INDUSTRIA DO CINEMA AMERICANO E CANTAVA COMO NINGUEM AS CANÇÕES POPULARES SEM DISTANCIAR DE SUAS ORIGENS FATO QUE NAO ACONTECIA COM MARIO LANZA , POIS , AO CANTAR MUSICAS EM SEUS FILMES ERA EVIDENTE O RETOQUE ROMANTICO DOS CANTORES POPULARES DE SUA EPOCA NOS ESTADOS UNIDOS MAIS ERA SEM DUVIDA UM SUCESSOR DE GIGLI
Thanks for letting me know about this and 3

I mean he was playing a student here. He has to play bad.
@SHICOFF1 There is a CD of concerts with the Bel Canto Trio. The Traviata and Butterflyduets with Frances Yeend are very fine.
Csodàs💞💕
No equal.

BRAVO.,. Maxim point . 12..-24. point.
"I want a round tone". Exactly. And Lanza delivered. Nothing worse than a shrill tenor.
Sadly, the maestro's other student is teaching violin to Jack Benny.
was al mijn favoriet in de jaren 60 van vorige eeuw !!!
