So I'm currently playing a paladin? I'm planning on multiclassing 3 levels into warlock So I can cast eldritch blast to pull people in cause I'm sick of flying rats.
Also I'm debating which pact I should take as more cantrips and rituals will help roleplay but, talking to an animal on my shoulder would also help my current insane character. Blade would just do magical damage so not much there, maybe throwing it more?

@diomedes7971 I definitely agree in theory, but I take the opposite approach in practice.
I prefer subclasses to not exist, and I think it's much easier to balance a job system, which is essentially multiclassing.
The reason it works better than multiclassing IMO is that job systems tend to have the player choose a primary class and a secondary class, and certain abilities are only available to the primary class, or are delayed if taken through a secondary class.
Then all subclass options can merely be class feats, similar to the "pick one of two" approach to leveling a secondary class in a job system.

Paladin has 3 good jump off points that depend on your build requirements. First level 2; You got divine smite the key reason to go paladin. Second level 5; you got extra attack and second level spells. Third Level 6; you got aura of protection for more defense. If you just want divine smite on a gish build with heavy armor level 2 is the break away. If you want full offense on a melee build level 5 is the break away. If you want some more defense on that same build level 6 is the break away.

I'd say 2,6,8 as the jump points, if you're going 5 levels you gotta have that Aura of Prot it's far too good to pass up. 8 is my go to if the subclass has a good Aura like Conquest, Ancients or Watcher.

Depends on the Oath. Vengeance, for example, is great to jump ship after 6, because they barely get a level 7 feature at all. At that level, Conquest is locking down Frightened enemies, Watchers is boosting everyone's initiative, Glory is boosting ally's movement, Devotion is blocking Charm effects, Ancients is reducing incoming spell damage, etc. Vengeance...gets the option to move a little when they hit with an attack of opportunity. Not them and allies within range. Just them. You pretty much need to take the Sentinel and Polearm Master feats just to have a semi-reliable way to even make opportunity attacks, at which point you don't really need the extra movement all that much.

Paladin gets the best feature at level 6 and arguably 7 since it improves your aura. From there onward you could focus more on smites and multiclassing with a full charisma spell caster allows you to do just that so in my opinion, by level 6 you already got the best the paladin could offer (extra attack, smite and aura) so now more spellcasting would be icing on the cake.

I am doing a build right now where I take 6 levels of conquest Paladin then 5 levels in divine soul Paladin. At level 4 I took meta magic adept allowing me to take quickened spell and then allowing me to use sorcery points at sorcerer 2. I can quicken booming blade getting the movement control that I would have gotten going 7 levels into conquest. Then of course you get Fear, Spirit Guardians, and Spirit Shroud. After 5 levels in divine soul sorcerer do Paladin all the way until level 19 then last level is sorcerer again. Obviously you probably won’t play to that point but at level 20 you can upcast spirit shroud using a level 7 spell slot. Which would give the bonus damage to either your weapon attacks and booming blade or even spiritual weapon.

I’m playing a Paladin rogue. It’s a very fun combination with cunning action allowing me to dip in and out of an enemy’s face as needed. Swashbuckler Rogue to make use of my Charisma, and Vengeance Paladin so I can give myself advantage (sneak attack) on any big mean bosses. The urge to go hexblade is very tempting, so my charisma can become my “all in one” stat that I focus on.
It’s a really fun to play build because it is a challenge at lower levels, but I get the feeling I’ll be a force to recon with by level 10 (Swashbuckler3, Vengeance 6, Hexblade1(?))

I quite like Soulknife for the completely harmless and unarmed character until they suddenly strike, assassin style. Sure you won't do the most damage with soulknife but paladin smite spell + smite on the soul blade can make up for that. Bonus points if you also dip into moon druid (CR ½ Ape can use the soul blades while in wildshape) or whispers bard to take on their identity.

If i dip into fighter for 2 levels ill have a total of 4 attacks once per short rest, as well as a 2nd fighting style. The thing I find the hardest about it is very usually you want either 6, 7, or 11 levels into paladin. However if you’re going 11 levels in there’s a good chance the game is either about to end, or it is going to really high levels possibly even 20. When the prospect of 20 levels is dangled in front of you it becomes incredibly hard to just pass up their level 20 subclass transformation feature, and if you do it’ll typically just be weaker than going the full 20 and you’ll be handicapping yourself.
Overall just a lotta hard choices, so I typically just try to run for the hills at 6 to sorcerer, warlock, or whatever it is im multiclassing into

Valor bard get extra attack so no need to stay in paladin for 5 levels and aura of protection is good but man having a list of possibility combat ending spells is better. Couldve went swords bard but i wanna still give back to the party and combat inspiration makes bardic inspiration so much better. A player won't be holding a bardic inspiration for more than a round guaranteed. Also if you get to level 16 you can cast a whole level spell and smite as a bonus action which makes you the strongest gish in the game blowing bladesinger, sorcadin, and hex bard out of the water. Such a slept on build
