Great fix just did this and it helped a lot. Few tips to mention. 1. Test out the top after installing the strikers, and before installing all the panels and lights 2. Use washers as necessary, I needed two on drivers but only one on the passenger 3. Although m6x25 is fine. You only need an extra 5mm or so m6x20 should do the trick Finally for people who installed the washer and are having a bigger gap. If you notice above where the top hooks into the striker. There is a concave “nest”. there is a pin that sits in that groove and helps align and seat the top. If you lower the striker too much the pin on the top will have a hard time nesting inside since your lowering the position of the nest. Because of this i wouldn’t recommend going past 2 washers, instead you’ll need new strikers Hope this helps and thanks for the upload

Many s2000 owners don't know how to properly close and lock the hard top. I was one of the person using washers, which really didn't seen to be the best way. Turns out, after lots of research close the soft-top and put the latch on and you think you are done, nope. there is a 3rd step. after you latched the top, you need to push the button for hard top, AGAIN for about a second to complete the seal. you will see how the top seats better on the rubber. Take it for a drive and enjoy the no wind noise!
I had read that as well. I don’t remember it working well for me. It’s really just another work around in my opinion and you carry the cognitive load of having to do that every time you latch your soft top.
Great idea! I only get wind noise when driving speeds over 60mph. Maybe this will help. There is definitely signs of wear on the original soft top striker.
This was incredible, but let’s back up a bit: Is there no adjustment for this? Asking because I accomplished similar “snugging” on an NB Miata via a very simple adjustment in the latch mechanism. Took abiut one minute per latch
I have a 1999 AP1. I have found that using the roof open switch briefly after closing the roof and locking it in actually tightens the roof and changes its angle of attack against the wind making it heaps quieter. Obviously you need to be careful in not burning out the motor when tightening. I was too concerned about pulling my car to pieces as solving building problems are my thing not cars.
Gonna try this when i get off work or this weekend. Drove with my jdm ap1 with the top up for the first time heard hella noise. Pulled down the handle while driving and it stopped. And that was on like 55 mph roads lol
Was thinking about adding weather stripping either on top of the windshield seal or bottom of the convertible top cause Im lazy. This looks more like a permanent solution though.
Awesome im going to try this, my wind noise is really bad and when i pull on the softop it goes away so this solution should fix it, also my latches rattle so gonna try the foam trick to
Ok so didnt even bother doing this, i found a easier solution and it fixed the wind noise plus fixed my really noisy rattling latches, i closed the roof, clipped it shut then hit the open roof switch till it went tight and man what a huge difference, no wind noise anymore plus the latches have completly stopped rattling.
+V360Newzealander I've read about that solution before and that is a bit of a hack solution. The issue I have with it is that you have to remember to do that every single time you latch the soft top and I drive top down almost any day. Maybe I'll create a follow up video on the future about the various options.
V360Newzealander I have done the washer method as per the video. Used 2 washers per bolt. It has stopped the wind noise on the highway. Then I could hear other noises since the car interior became quieter, there was some type of squeak bird chirp noise around where the driver latch area would be. Drove me crazy and I found out that the soft top made the noise. I press the soft top button to “open” while the soft top is latched on and the tension on the soft top frame has no more slack. Now the bird chirp type noise is no more and the interior is perfect with no noise from the top. Summary is, this washer method works for reducing the wind noise. But I still need to pull the slack out of the soft top.
Do you have any bird chirp type sound on the driver side interior? Ever since I did this fix I started hearing this noise whenever I hit a lane change land mine I did find some “paper” dampeners probably placed there from previous owner when I was doing this wind soft top fix at the soft top latch and also on the windshield side pillar
Having trouble getting the striker screws off. I think i stripped the head of 1 of them. Thoughts? I only have regular Philips screwdriver. Where did you get the wrench looking one?
I think I got it in an all in one tool set. The right tool for the job is really an impact screwdriver which can be picked up relatively cheap at harbor freight. If it’s stripped you may have to drill it out.

+Ray vs. The World this is cheaper and should serve the same purpose as hardtop strikers. The hardtop strikers are slightly thicker than the soft top strikers and will eventually wear and have the issue again. If you have the money hard top strikers would be a good first step.
thanks fam. also unrelated and minor, but do you think reusing axle nuts is fine? i'm changing my rear bearings this weekend and was wondering if i should pick up some new ones since they're so cheap.
+Jason Kan Yep I remember you suggesting it. Should have put that comment in the video, next time. Luckily I was having this issue in my own car so it was prioritized. I definitely do take all the suggestions seriously tho.
I was so pumped to do this on my '01. Finally did without success. Actually made the gap worse so I reverted back to the OEM bolts. Driver side isn't flush and creates a lot of wind noise at 40mph+. I replaced the elastic straps from Modifry as well without any change. Real bummer but glad I tried it regardless. Looks like a new driver side bracket will be the next step.
Let me know how it goes. What do you mean it made the gap worse because in my case the soft top was simply higher than the windshield, this causing wind noise.
DIYGuys thanks for getting back! My top was higher than the windshield on the driver side just like your video. When I added spacers, the top sat further away from the windshield thus creating a larger gap between the two. Can’t quite figure out why it won’t sit flush.
The spacers only move the soft top up and down so not sure why they would move the soft top backwards hmm.. Maybe they aren't exactly at a 90 degree angle.
Surprisingly I have pretty bad hardtop issues with my CR and I haven’t even really out any effort into fixing it but I’ll have to try this. Wasn’t sure if it was as applicable to hard tops.
DIYGuys actually with hardtops it's different. You have to loosen a few bolts from the Catch side and have one of your heavier buddies push down on the entire hardtop while you tighten the bolts. It's all in the manual. I have zero wind noise.
+David Escalante well first, does the problem get better when you pull down the soft top while driving? That would determine if this fix is even worth it.
+David Escalante do you visibly see a gap between the windshield and soft top too? If there is no gap you may be mis interpreting the noise this is supposed to fix since some wind noise is inevitable.

i used silicone grease. ill have to see if it swelled up or not.

I put new hardtop strikers on and still have the gab and wind noise wat would you suggest next? I am running a soft top with hardtop strikers .

When i put the top up after i lock the top, I try to put the roof back with the motors. That tensions it to keep the noise down.
