Mat was not driving the S2000 properly, he didn’t keep it in V-TEC. I had a Honda Civic VTi 1.8 litre, (the same engine as the Integra Type R), absolutely glorious sound taking it up to 9,000 rpm.
Don't be silly. These were straight-line drag races on the track. It does not take any special skill to change up at the red line, and when you do then the gearing dictates the revs as you go into the next gear

Piss off.
If that S2000 was supercharged it would be making 400bhp+ on a stock engine and it would pull train lengths on the other 2 cars
Ok? The point is how much can you get for 13k. Supercharging a 13k car puts it above 13k.
@@inherentlyflawed But not all S2ks are 13k. Mine is a 2004 facelift and cost me 7K. Was sub 100k miles also.
But it's not supercharged, also a stock s2k is 25k+ you can get a nc or 86 and destroy the s2k in every category
Here in the UK you can get S2000's from 7K-20k+.
I'm sure in the 14k budget you can find a nicely modified one.
@miudoru7740 Correct me if I'm wrong here...but this was filmed in the UK..cheapest on ebay is 6k and auto trader is 7k. There are only 3 cars above 25k....
The MX5 and the 86 were nice clean cars. But you guys brought out a rough example of an S 2000.
Overall, it was a good race by all three cars.
Overlooked the RX8 R3 here. Value for money they are fantastic.
Brought my 2013 BBR turbo NC for 10.5k and I have to say for the money there isn't much out there that beats them, I've had 2 gt86's and although very great cars reliability is questionable when boosted, the NC3 mx5 can easily take 300bhp on standard internals, S2000 is definitely better with forced induction but by that time you're talking almost double the price of the mx5 price when boosted.
The NC mx5 is definitely a very underated platform until you boost one
Nice that we can see the clocks during the races! 👍👍
Been ready for yall to drop
Next do the value retention test. I have a 2008 S2K and would not consider trading it for either of these 2, obviously. They are quite fun for the $ with the mods but not in the same league as a legend. The old boy did well in stock form but it did seem to be missing a beat or 2 - still wasn't going to beat these 2 though. Thanks for the video, good fun!
Matt comes back with an s2k with good condition and supercharged and you will see that you will have to put it with a porsche...
Never put with a porsche mate.😂 u drink a lot
S2000 is a classic ... no upgrades just pure Honda soul
For real that Toyota Exhaust is damn good 😮😊
I have an all-original S2K AP1, great car, drives like a go-kart and the engine sounds wonderful. We also have a 718 Spyder 6-spd, and the S2K is still fun to drive against that!
Gt86 owners stand up 🗿

Blown engines at 150k 😂
@Wafflecombo54 What brokie drives a car with over 150k miles 😂
matt, we want a series where you drive some cars to adiffrent coutnries doing tasks (just like top gear/grandtour style), this will make me and most of your followers happy cause we really miss that kind of shows ❤.
So the lessons are: 1) stock, the S2000 is still better than the other two are stock. 2) if you want an inexpensive car to mod, nothing beats a MX5.
The lesson I learnt was, MX-5s are crap. Except I already knew that. So in fact, I learnt nothing.
@@nicholaschip5820No, they aren't.
@@nicholaschip5820 Did you really learn that from this video or is that just your already existing opinion? Cause there's really nothing in this video that would give that impression
@@kissgergo5202 Did you read my comment?
@@ronniemartinez8034Yes, they are.
I have a supercharged S2000. A very different car from the stock one, but I'm happy and surprised to see one here :)
The sound of that GT86 is to die for.❤🤯
Can't imagine ever getting tired of these comparo's. Cheers fellas!
S2K all the way.
Love the fact you've gone back to 1/2 mile runs
Next drag race will be 918 Spyder vs revuelto🔥
To be fair, in stock trim like that, the S2000 can do these races for the next 15 years without any issues.
But all 3 are fun cars, and can be built nicely. The aftermarket world can really put factory performance to shame.
I feel like the driver of the 86 is changing gear too early @ 08:57
100%. He also launches it like shit. I have a supercharged 86 and it can launch wayyy better than that.
🤔 maybe but I know for a fact mat is a great manual driver so him getting 15.6 on a S2000 is legit 😂 but it was wet and un prep surface so 14.9 is verry possible but verry sad for 240 HP. Because I got a basic golf 180 whp 1.8T FWD auto stock I did 15.5@89.5 and offshelf ecu only 14.6@100 with 220whp 😂.
WOW the exhaust sound of the GT86 took me by surprise!
The Honda S2000 is so sick to hear actually
S2000 all day. My friend slapped Injectors, tune, bolt-ons and an HKS turbo kit on his with stock internals. 480hp street tune, 500+ full boost. The others would be grenades on wheels. S2K is God Level. That was 7 years ago, its still running like a champ to this day.
As if that s2000’s on its original Bridgestones! Surely you can’t still get those, must be hard as nails by now! Number plate blocking the air intake isn’t doing it any favours either 🤣
Re002 was closest years ago not sure what it is now. They had dedicated tyres and Boxter ones are closest.
I've gotten rid of them to run much bigger wheels because it has nearly 3x rwhp and torque.
@ yeah I know they were specific to the s2000, but pretty sure they stopped being available back in like 2010 🥴 the RE002’s have been discontinued a few years now too. Think you can get Yoko v105’s and Michelin PS4’s in the pre facelift 16” sizes 🤔
I love when people put their plate in front of the intake
Can you get a S2000 for that price nowadays? I think that's optimistic.
There are 33 S2000’s on auto trader right now for sub 14K
I think the price specified is optimistic in my opinion. You can pick up high miler cars for 7-8k
Yes definitely, I have one I want to sell and I'll happily accept that figure.
Not really fair as two cars are modified. Stick a supercharger in the s2k and it would beat everything!
That white Subaru looks clean though...
It not a sub its a toyota gt86
@reneeharewood5053 same same, but different...😂
This was good but feel like they missed a trick not putting them round a track because that’s where they really shine
So over 20 years later, you need a supercharger on both other cars to defeat the S2000, 'nuff said
You didn't get the idea a s2k is starting from 20k those days, on that buget you can get an 86 or nc throw some money in it and will outperform an s2k in every aspect
@miudoru7740 then give the S2K a compressor and it will still blow those other cars away = fair is fair.
Although the S2K is an appreciating classic so mods only ruin its value
A mx5 nc is like 3 times cheaper than a equal s2000 you clown
@@michaelmassart2349s2k is heavier than mx5
Almost 30 yrs, I remember to this day how crazy it seemed to have 240hp from nat asp 4 cylinder engine back then.
"That's better!... oh..." was such a funny moment :D
GT86 looks so much better, STYLE.
One will likely appreciate while the other will certainly depreciate. I’d personally choose the S2000 for monetary reasons and it also a brilliant car.
The Honda S2000 still never lost its touch when doing drag races with a Miata and GT86.
We once owned a Honda S2000 as well as a second generation Miata. Both were great cars, however, I moved the S2000 along as it was way too loud with my daily drive on the highway. Our Miata was sold as it was damaged in a minor accident. The wife didn't want. to drive it after it was repaired. I'd like to have another S2000 now that I am retired. Cheers🍻
S2000s best no question
As a prior s2k owner...you didn't rev it hard enough in neither the drag or roll races...that engine needs to be dropped around 6500rpms lol. Loved this one.
Oh my i need me a Gt86 just like that🤤
S2000 with fully-digital speedometer gauge looks so evergreen🔥
That gt86 looks beautiful 😍 🔥
Thanks! That's mine ❤
@euan1974 Best one I've ever seen so far 🔥🔥🔥
The Mazda MX-5 NC is so underrated! It may not have the NA’s classic vibe or the ND’s sharp lines, but in my eyes, it looks downright badass-sporty and refined at the same time. Plus, it nails the balance between comfort and thrill, making it a perfect underdog for those who love a genuine driving experience. 🚗💨 #NCAppreciation
The 1/4 time should be around 14.0s for a stock s2000. This 15.6s result is very slow.
Wet condition affect its initial launch
@@PerformanceNation33 I found in the wet I could get really good launches as the wheelspin can drop you into the power quicker and not wreck the drive train...remember these do 44mph in 1st gear...its a tall gear !
Agreed, I own one and thought this just seems slow for an S2000 so not sure what's going on with that one.
Its not true these are real world test and number. A s2000 will never do 14s 😂. Look at mazda x5 did 14.6 with 280 HP and toyota GT did 15.0 with 300 HP. Yes it was slighly wet condition I would knock out maybe 0.5 max than 0.3 bc non prep surface so in realty. S2000 in great condition 14.9-15.0
@@totov7673 I have no problem to run 0-100 figures from the specs with my FWD Abarth with manual gearbox and it is about +0.5-0.7s in the wet. I've measured it with the Dragy and I'm nowhere near the professional level. From the other hand Mat drag raced hundreds of cars. I think he knows how to start and how to shift in the wet. This s2000 in very bad condition in my opinion and you can see it under the hood too.
Is it just me or does Jack have crazy driving skills... Those launches were on point!!!

S2000 is the coolest car there by a country mile. And the gearbox is an absolute joy to use. Would be interested to see how a boosted S2000 would fair against the other two.
It's actually a very similar box to the MX5, made by AIsin (toyota). Diff is a Torsen helical, they are not very strong when used this way though.
I wouldn't go near the/a GT86, the chances of it going BANG CLATTER CLATTER CLATTER is substantially higher than the other two.
I personally would still take the AP1 S2000 over the other 2. I just know not to attempt to race any supercharged Miatas or supercharged GT86s. Honda NA 4 cylinder engines are not known for having torque.

point is that you would be spending a hell of alot more cash on an boosted s2k than on a boosted MX5 or 86

like this.. if you think mat needs to review the new m5 and m5 touring
I had same debate in 2018. Drove supercharged frs, miata, m3 , s2000, had multiple mr2 at that time already. Got a 2015 mustang gt performance pack with recaro seats, 3.73 gears 450hp now. Mat was not driving the S2000 properly, he didn’t keep it in V-TEC. It’s difficult to keep the revs up, it’s something you have to learn to do, only experienced owners can drive V-TEC engines correctly.
@ try again old chap. This is real life, not a kiddie computer game…
