Something I need to say about the appeal of this entire channel is that not only is it an interesting premise, Sam is a perfect archetypical villain for a pair of hapless heroes (Adam and Ben) to compete against. He is so visibly logical and intelligent that people are predisposed to call Adam and Ben underdogs, and everyone loves an underdog story.
The audience gets to see Sam's master plan (and because the other team doesn't know the specifics it plays into Alfred Hitchcocks description of tension, a calm scene of two people eating dinner is suddenly full of tension when the audience alone is shown a bomb under the table) so narrative tension is created and a story is created.
Finally, Sam is incredible at taking setbacks, everyone else who has ever appeared on this channel has large physical and verbal reactions to suffering a setback but Sam just shakes his head and goes back to planning. It keeps the tension ramping up and is just beautiful.
It is for these reasons that despite rooting for Adam/Ben, Sam is my favorite member of the cast and the heart of the dynamic narrative these games build and it wouldn't be interesting to me without him. I call him a villain but thats not a condemnation or a judgement, stories need villains and Sam is the GOAT of this entire channel.

Thats probably because there is a major difference between American and European public transport, so they had to make a rule against cars in the US one

So funny seeing Sam and Brian struggling with the worst luck and everything getting delayed while Ben and Adam just cruising through it, getting trains delayed which makes em able to catch em and get free coffees

It already is to me, tv is a dying medium anyway
Tell me, whats a real TV show? I watch over 95% of the media i watch via youtube, and the vast majority of that is from channels that remind me of what i loved so much about discovery, the history channel, food network, and the other channels i loved growin up... But now theyre actually in chunks of time that are far more reasonable and payin for these tv shows is actually optional, but it also doesnt cost me an arm and a leg comparably and it removes the ads... Unlike "real TV" which costs vastly more for a bunch of junk i dont want and also is plastered with ads that i cant even remove usually without actually purchasin specific content directly. Even on cable.
Why wud anyone pick "real TV" over the quality tv shows available on youtube such as; Crash Course, CGP Grey, Jet Lag, Extra History, Kurzgesagt, Overanalyzin Avatar,Tom Scott Plus, Citation Needed, Matt & Tom, Game On, The Technical Difficulties; We've been on Adventures, Money, Disconnected, Two Of These People Are Lying, The Game Garage, and a bunch more not browt to you by Tom Scott :P
TH-cam is real TV and has the best real TV shows. Heck, its also got How Its Actually Made by Huggbees; which is the best How Its Made parody possible and yet due to "real TV" complainin... That show is prty much cancelled but all the vids are there and Huggbees has made tons more hilarious things since which arent gettin copyright claimed for bs reasons despite clear fair use

I'm colorblind and it took me until almost two thirds of the way through this episode before realising that the teams are colored green and red (for example on the map of who has which state), please consider something like red vs blue, or one bright shade of anything vs one dark shade of anything
Red and Blue are usually used for political parties in the US so using those colors could cause issues. The light and dark shading could work though, or adding team specific symbols.
welp, sad to hear that, but they've already got Ep3 up, and changing the colours mid-season would disorient everyone else.

Yeah I got the "Top Gear vibe" a lot too, it's a pretty good way of explaining the show.

I really want to know what the bartender’s response to this was.
Also, I’m not sure that Sam has entirely thought the area bonus through. Yeah, Ben and Adam will be scrambling for a bunch of small states, but you know what the pro of small states are? They’re small, and if you have enough border unlocks you can cross off a bunch of them really quickly in a rental car.
Ben and Adam are great at getting people to help them -the Uber drivers in the Connect 4 season, the train conductor coming in clutch with the custom tickets, I feel like I'm missing some others.

They both have excellent charm. I was on a scavenger hunt once with a lad like that. We needed a hair grip, and he went into a Chinese restaurant and charmed one off a waitress. He also stopped an older guy on the street and got a postage stamp from him.

The fact that Ben and Adam got from Penn Station to Grand Central on the subway in less than 15 minutes is really impressive
That's just luck. I have done it in under 10 minutes, as a matter of fact I actually did exactly that just a couple hours ago in the middle of the night when it should be impossible. I got on a 1 immediately no wait and at times sq the S was running overnight and was sitting there, and the conductor saw me run and waited for me and shut the door right behind me. Time was 1:49a to 1:58a entering grand central. Usually at that time of night i would wait 15-20 minutes per train. I have also had it take 30+ minutes midday when it should be easy and fast. You just never know.

I know it's too late, but I'm really familiar with the area in Arlington that Sam and Brian were in, and if they had gone to the costco nearby, I've seen diplomatic plates there several times. That seems like that should count for being real far away.
Diplomatic plates aren't foreign. They're issued by the host country and for this game would most probably be considered local to the city they're in, or at best the nation's capital.

@@tvTwo1 Yes, but diplomatic plates are neither foreign nor international plates. They're a special class of domestic plate used to identify cars driven by foreigners posted to embassies.
Since diplomatic plates are issued by the federal government in the US I guess they would technically belong in DC, so it would probably be the worst ones for this challenge. Not sure how they would rule on that though since the card didn't actually specify.

This is my favorite episode of Jet Lag so far. As a hardcore birder, very happy to see the birding battle card! The challenge was really fun to watch and I would love to see it return in future Jet Lag seasons!
This episode was super nostalgic to me for one reason: When I was a kid, the PEZ museum was right off the route we took to my grandparents' place and my parents stopped there with me on several trips. I'm glad to see it's still going strong :)

Guy who grew up in CT here with a minor correction: you guys flew into Bradley International Airport, not Hartford-Brainard. They are two separate airports. Hartford-Brainard is a smaller regional one. Love the vids!!
Came here to say this. HFD is Hartford-Brainard and BDL is Bradley. AFAIK HFD doesn't have any regularly scheduled passenger service, and the interior shot was inside BDL.

I think what might be interesting is a penalty you could use your points on that prevented the other team from using transport for a certain amount of time. It sounds like it could be devastating to the other team if you predict what train they could get on, but also be hard to use at the same time.

For future games, since it's more exciting for the game to be close, you could introduce comeback mechanics (if the game isn't close, or just in general). For instance, the losing team each day is allowed to draw an extra card or return a card from their hand to the deck for a new one. Or if you want something crazier on the level of a blue shell, the losing team at the beginning of day 4 can trade one state for another.
If they win the massachussets duel, and get Texas after tennessee, anything could still happen, with the +2 area, and the potential to win future duels. There's some fun in here! But i feel like it's far from said and done
It could be something simpler, like the losing team gets access to the winning team's location.

They should do that as a special editon of jett lag in late 2024.
Referencing politics more directly might create controversy and loss of viewership. And if that's the case, I doubt they'd want to do that, since I see this as a channel that's attempting to maximize their audience.

First in the last video you visited a pawn store in the town right next to me, and the visited the Pez museum which we just recently visited. So fun watching all these places show up in these videos. And yes I did buy a bucket a pez, one of the best purchases in my life.
