I used to dig holes with friends on the beach, but you have to be extreeeeemely far from the water or the slope of the beach has to be really high otherwise you'll hit water pretty soon. 1m depth is A LOT.
What's even worse is that Sam and Toby had an early lead so you don't want to take the high variance path.

haha me too! i’d like to think they’d take some time to learn pronunciation, since Te Reo Māori pronunciation is fairly straight forward. But after hearing Sam say Cape Reinga i’m not so sure

As a fellow Aucklander, it’s so cool to see Season 5 be set in New Zealand. I saw on Twitter that Ben and Adam’s flight was cancelled, meaning they were stuck in Auckland during the floods. Regardless, looking forward to what you all were up to in this beautiful country

Fellow kiwi here (from Wellington) and it is so cool to see them exploring NZ. Interesting that they were here during the floods - it's always nice to know how long it's been since filming.

@@MonkeyBanjo7 prior to this one they've done race to the most states, tag across Europe, Connect 4 across USA, and circumnavigating the globe. If you look in their playlists you'll see those 4. There's not a playlist for this season yet since there's only one episode

Normally I'm hardcore team Ben (and therefore Adam), but I have to root for Toby (and subsequently Sam) this time because she is such a sweetheart and I want only good things to happen for her, including winning this game.
As a Kiwi, it is a very weird and wholesome experience watching Ben and Adam go into a Pak n Save and buy Vogels 😂

why does everyone hate on sam lol
It was painful to see Sam go through the whole thought process of "They usually go the slow and steady route, and then they get to do the optimal strategy, and I'm NEVER in the lead at the beginning, forcing me into a high-risk sub-optimal strategy" then somehow make the decision to go the wild-card luck-based route anyway.
I immediately knew the luck route was a bad idea. And that’s a very difficult challenge no matter what- anything above a 3 is actually pretty hard.
Hell anythibg above 2 is difficult, 3 or more on a beach
I feel like the challenge wasn't properly thought about, what's the point of having impossible rolls? Sure it has to be really hard the higher you roll but it never should be almost outright impossible. Rolling a 5 or 6 is pretty much a "veto required" which ruins the point of the challenge. They should have someone test these first to see if it's possible or not before putting them in the game.

I first came to the Jet Lag channel from one of the Toby's post said that she will be in the game of next season. Out of curiosity I reached here and it was way beyond my expectation. It only took me an episode to be completely obsessed with this show. It feels really wonderful to see this season uploaded. Look forwards to next episodes!
And Toby is definitely one of the best guests.

I started watching this January and I got immediately hooked. I'm another team Ben and Adam, especially Ben I think is such a lovable and funny character. But Sam's a good strategist, can't deny him that although it usually, which is very apparent in this episode too, it screws him over. Still love that he got Toby now so we'll see how it goes.
Ps. I love how Toby painted her nails as the logo of the show, anyone else noticed this lovely little touch?

I am a Kiwi, I'll help clear up any confusion anyone has in this episode:
- Pak 'N' Save is a normal big chain supermarket although I can see why Ben and Adam got Costco vibes.
- Toast bread - That bread is recommended to be used for toast. We also have sandwich bread which tends to be thinner slices than the toast bread. Vogels is a Kiwi brand and it's amazing. Great choice!
Can confirm. Also tasty cheese is a thing. Multiple brands call there cheese tasty
This is my first time learning that other countries don't have toast bread lol

@@VijoPlaysthe UK had toast bread, there's specific bread made for toasting labeled as such. I have some in the bread bin right now, had it with beans a few nights ago.
I like the chemistry between Toby and Sam. She also seems more invested than Bryan in the last episode and it seems like they make decisions together.

For those wondering about the bread bring called "toast" it's how the bread is cut. "Toast" bread is generally cut thicker per slice, whereas "sandwhich" bread is cut thinner.
What is the name of the resulting item when sandwich bread is toasted?
Edit: this is a genuine curiosity, not sarcasm.
@@watashiandroid8314 We use sandwich bread to make toast and toast bread to make sandwiches. It's often comes down to more of a preference on how thick you like your bread

@@Frozenfox2224 That's not remotely true. The label is about the thickness of the bread, nothing else. The reason the thicker bread is called toast bread is because it won't burn so easily in a toaster unlike the thinner sandwich bread. There is also Super Thick toast bread as well.

I think it's good idea, but at the same time I can't think of how these games could be adapted to something you can just play with your friends in your living room
@@Mill_Jr Maybe you have to compete against other players for states with challenge cards from a card deck? Maybe that advances you to the next part of a path, like the animation for NZ. I'm not sure, but I believe it would be a really fun and interesting concept. If they can create these games in the first place, I believe they have the creativity and talent to make a board game based on the series.

This is genuinely the best game. Very well designed with the simple power up system, the choke points, and challenges unique to the locations.

Kiwi Jet Lag fan here - watched this season when it came out and just loved seeing my country and my favourite show combined - and now about to start watching it again as "research" for my big adventure this summer. I'm finally graduating university in November and for three years I've been planning to take the summer after uni off to go exploring and see so much more of the country. Let's see where I end up!

Gotta say, I love being able to see all the moments y'all talked about in a new light.
I am so glad Toby is on this season! I’ve been wanting a woman on the cast and she balances Sam’s energy so well
Toby is the last guest I would expect for a gameshow this stressful.
Sam has come across as more serious in the last few games, but he looks way more laid-back and like he's having fun this episode, which is great to see. I'm sure having a Kiwi with him will also help with this too
I love the premise of this game. It's great for the game to feature specific locales. It must have taken a lot of creativity to design the entire board, and it'll definitely pay off with the uniqueness of the challenges. This season is going to be like a fun road trip between buddies. I'm stoked to see what it leads to.

You should do a series in Japan one day! It’s got some of the best public transportation in the world, it’s really fun, it’s different from everywhere else you’ve been, it’s safe, it’s got loads of similarly sized prefectures.
Language barrier for both people interaction and signage might be an issue there, but they probably cope somehow.
@@Mimi.1001 People, yes, they all take years of English, but almost none can speak more than a few words, but for signage, Japan is covered with English. Nearly all signage is also in English.
Japan's gonna be very hard. The translation apps can only get you so far. The trains are so confusing and you can't really make too much of a scene. Even in Tokyo you can get asked to leave places if you're filming...

As someone from the North of New Zealand, I'm watching this with a completely unreasonable level of excitement to see if they end up in my hometown (although I'm already a little annoyed at how they pronounced a fair few place names)

I was surprised to see such a car-focused season at first, but it's cool you're balancing that by having most of the challenges get you out of the cars and into the nature and local cities!

@@xZulfur Yeah, as another kiwi there's really no good way for them to make this public transport focused. Even in our biggest city our public transport is terrible.

@Milton That’s wildly untrue. Most places across Asia, Europe, South America (disregarding trains), and Australia have some form of public transport system. The US is one of very few car-centric countries
@@Mill_Jr pretty widespread in Japan as well, and it'd be a smaller game but I think Israel could have a game as well (barring them not wanting to run afoul of political whatever)
