Chaos Space Marines are genetically augmented transhumans who seek only to conquer, slaughter, and despoil. Clad in baroque power armour bedecked in macabre trophies and infernal iconography, Chaos Space Marines do battle alongside growling battle tanks, monstrous Daemon Engines, and thronging masses of cultist thralls. Some are possessed by daemonic allies, others bear Chaos-tainted artefacts or wield warp sorcery. No matter what form they take, they pursue their Long War with pitiless brutality, slaughtering any who stand in their path in an ever-escalating campaign of vengeance, conquest
Codex (plural "codices", but "codexes" is also occasionally used) is the name of a source book for Warhammer 40,000 armies and factions containing background information, pictures, and rules.
Since its creation in the 1980s, Warhammer 40,000 has had eight distinct versions or editions. With each edition, the Codex of each army has changed to reflect the new rules and units.
Usually one codex is valid until a revision is made, so all codexes from the 6th, 5th, 4th and 3rd Editions of Warhammer 40,000 are still valid in the current, 9th Edition, unless a later version has replaced it. There have been instances of codices that are not "standalone". They were known as "mini-dexes". These were usually army lists that were variants of a mainstream army. An example would be the early 3rd Edition Codex: Catachans, which required the main Codex: Imperial Guard to use. Mini-dexes are more or less extinct nowadays.

Not sure if you see this but could you probably do the Custode Codex cause i wanna know how bad it is😅😂 and it probably be a 30 min episode at best
I would suggest that you get @pancreasnowork to assist with realm of ridiculous seeing as he knows everything there is to know about fantasy warhammer and he loves the setting, I know this suggestion will get buried but I think he'd be a great edition
oh wow I just returned to the podcast and found out bricky is a grandpa now but not in the family way but as in his 30's he is the next bjorn
"I've never fought an Alpha Legion painted army in my time playing." Doesn't include all the times you fought them diagused as another space marine army without knowing.
They’re already enacting the real plan from 3 tables away
I feel called out, I play alpha legion, but they are gray and red, and look like red corsairs
Taking a page out of Poorhammer having entire episodes where you just bitch about codexes lol. Love it
I need an episode of Bricky and Brad just yelling at GW.
I really thought Brad would be a guest host by the title
@@TheLordofMetroids they kinda did that with their dataslate review
Dumps hundreds, possibly thousands into the tabletop. " This game sucks. "
Bricky just secretly wants to be part of our podcast permanently, and who can blame him?
If the consumer is expected to spend at least $60 per model kit, there's no reason they shouldn't just have free digital access to the rules. They seem to want more mainstream success by simplifying the rules, but the buy-in costs are so outrageous it might not even matter.
That is just so true I remember spending like $25 on my first box of dire avengers (edit My first eldar codex was around $30)
Just play OnePageRules instead at this point
Honestly.. i just wish they wouldn't constantly fuck with the rules. Balance them properly BEFORE releasing and then stick to it. I hate all the digital bullshit. I wanna buy the box and be done with it.
@@Sorko__ We get it, thinks were better in the 80s
@@K2HunterX Naw I'm with them, I don't like constantly randomly changing rules either.
Im so glad Detective ridic is getting a couple of send-off episodes they have become some of my favorites these last few years. It'll definitely be sad to see them go
Wait what, it's going?! O-O
Edit: NUUUUUUUUUU
Well, at least not forever.
While no Brick (usually) , Dk dose do unidentified signal aswell for More ad rid style stuffs
wait what's up?
At least it's the law of equivalent exchange. We lose Adaptes Ridiculous and get The Realm of Ridiculous.
It really feels like 10th is gonna go down in the annals of Warhammer lore as the edition where we 100% learned which armies the devs liked and which they don’t.
Where have you been with the Eldar?
The who?
Where the who?
Honestly, it's pretty obvious that GW likes Chaos, otherwise they would have listened to the consumers when they asked about Fantasy "Hey, how about we destroy the setting you love so much so that Chaos can win?😊" and the players told GW to F off.
TREADHEAD IS BACK AT IT AGAIN
It really feels like there's an A-Team and a B-Team with the codex writers. After Sisters and Genestealers (as it's too late to change them), I hope to the God-Emperor that whoever wrote the CSM Codex writes the rest of them, because they did a damn good job of translating lore to rules.
You forgot the Custodes. There’s like…a C minus team too.
Now to convince them to do bloodbowl one shot lore special.
Blood Bowl would be a great April Fools episode!
Hey, remember when DK said "it would be just a single episode about Fantasy"?
I do, and I remember thinking that there's no way it'll just be one 😂
Leandros: "Codex Astartes does not support this action."
the space book says this is bad.
By the Emperor I hope Leandros gets killed in Space Marine 2.
little german boy: "oh mein Gott, the codex astartes its ein bunch of bullcheisse"
They made Space Book shorter and less fluffy while keeping the Price. Even Black Templars are disgusted.
That book cant stop me because I can't read - some imperial fist

10th Ed Vashtorr: I can turn all vehicles in daemon engines, including a hellbrute.
Me: Praise the Master of the Soul Forges!
I'm pretty pleased with this cos I got a free Vashtorr when he came out by selling everything else in his army box, just cos he was a cool mini. I got a load of cultists and stuff via Ashes of Faith and that Blackstone expansion box, and looks like in the new Hachette Combat Patrol magazine we're getting a Hellbrute and Forgefiend at some point.
The Chaos Space Marines got Tzeentch to warp magic 2 of the Custodes detachments into their book.
It feels better to have a joke detachment when you have seven other "real," detachments.
Will miss Detective Ridiculous. Thank you for producing some great stuff to help us get through the day.
The monkeys paw curls
We get more fantasy but detective and unidentified signal both go on indefinite hiatus
Solution, release one big rules book for core gameplay and definitions/game terminology. This book will be about $70 and include a code to access digital rules. Then release in waves the “codex” flavor books that have lore, paint schemes, strategies, fun flavor stuff, etc. The new miniatures can have lore pages for them explaining why they are added into the game and their purpose. The minis get released along side of the flavor books.
Bold to assume itll only be $70, but product wise 100% agree
Man that sounds like a solid plan… to bad GW is not gonna be doing that
They sort of do that. There's a Core book with the basics of both rules and lore. The Codices are to cover faction-specific rules and lore.
I find it funny that the "joke" detachment and the "it's just bikes" detachment are probably the two most competitively powerful detachment😂
Bricky, I have to hand it to you for going this entire episode without once mentioning that it's officially confirmed that Haarken Worldclaimer, aka Harold Worldclaimer, is actually a Night Lord. It is, after all, one of the few new lore bits added in this codex.
Also, as a proud Son of the Hydra myself, I can confirm that there are a lot more of us than you might think... You probably just didn't notice.
Omg have I been alpharius this whole time
You thought you were fighting Perturabo... But it was me, D-Alpharius!
Me praying to the Votann and all the ancestors that the Leagues codex gets made by the same people that made the orks/chaos codexies >.>
Me too, my Kin. May the ancestors bless us with multiple good detachments, a decent lore section, and some nice new models, when it finally comes
DK since you going to do research on Warhammer Fantasy, you might want to play Total War Warhammer 3. You can get many info even understood the map.
That game has all the faction and most of the important named characters. But there are a lot (and i mean a lot of) DLC. The game is technically 8 years old
you can also check total war warhammer wiki
If there is one thing DK can learn from that game it has to be Gotrek and Felix and how their adventures are crazy and epic.
@@YoBen100If anything I hope they do a book club episode for atleast up to skaven slayer.
@YOGI-kb9tg Yes yes. That's good idea.
@@YOGI-kb9tgIf they do Fantasy book club they ought to cover Drachenfels first, it's where this all started novels wise.

*takes helmet off Custodes mini to reveal creepy bald head* I AM ALPHARIUS *dumps box of Alpha legion miniatures onto table*
Remember, you don't have to be a good Alpha Legion player to be the best they've ever seen!
You know, I now have the image of Alpharius keeping the custodes armor from the one he killed when he started the blood games, and just deciding to troll some specific people by giving it to one of the marines to wear
the points being flat wrong in the pages was the last straw for me wanting this to be anything but digital. If the pages are Wrong then why are they printed. 10-20 bucks for a pdf if you MUST charge for it. Ideally 0 for the actual rules. And then just sell me a novel and an art book.
They already sell hundreds of books, it’s so silly forcing the rules to be inflated by adding lore, there’s barely anything new in the newer codexes for lore
"To celebrate my month"
Bricky that was a very brave way to come out of the closet, but I salute you
Little bit disappointed Bricky didn't mention that the Cultist Detachment lets you take a bunch of Traitor Guard as well
Where does one get the traitor guard models without kitbashing?
(Thinking of starting Word Bearers or Alpha Legion army myself)
@@DamosLexiconI believe there was a kill team unit, and that has a datasheet. May be wrong though
@@DamosLexicon It's the "Blooded" kill team box, it comes with a traitor commissar and ogryn too but you might not need those
For fantasy I think it would be better to do the first few episodes focused on the timeline rather than the specific factions. If you do the factions it would be very easy to get sidetracked or confused by things that are out of scope for the video. I feel like that was a bit of the problem with the Skaven episode, just a bunch of references to things that haven't been mentioned before
Agreed. Kinda like how they did the War in Heaven, then the birth of Slaanesh and the Horus Heresy for early ad ric episodes. Sets the stage so we all know what we're dealing with
It also has things in it like:
"WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT END TIMES! Anyways Verminlords (an end times only unit) are sick,"
@@TheLordofMetroidsverminlords appeard in the 7th edition army book for skaven, they are 100% a pre end times thing, you may be thinking of the stormfiend who was end times and onwards only

2+ Tough used to do really good videos for Age of Sigmar, I don't think he does much GW stuff anymore in general though, He kind of fell off of them from various company decisions and now does other smaller war games.
7:12 Fellow June kid let’s go!!
Over 3 editions I’ve bought lots of codices, even for armies I don’t play, and my main army is Custodes. This is the first time in around a decade I’ve cancelled a codex order and stopped playing Custodes entirely. This codex straight up turned me to Khorne.
Why not the Orks? Gotta go green!
Blood For The Blood God
Damn the Ad Mech codex has already been forgotten...
So, next week is a 2 hour rant about the Sisters codex? Let's GOOOOOO...sob in the corner.
Well, this comment aged poorly...and I'm super happy about it!
I started collecting custodes at the end of 9th/start of 10th. I’m building Knights now because even if they’re bad, I can still enjoy having big stompy robots.
If you still wanted to do detective ridiculous as a seperate channel it may help to not bloat content. I know comicstorian did a similar thing and has said it helped stabilize things. Hope it helps
To be fair dk is doing another podcast that is pretty much the same thing
@@jamesfreeman3617what’s that podcast called? I honestly find detective ridiculous way more entertaining than fantasy

That’s hilarious because in 5 days I can legally drink as a 2003 kid
I am so glad Vashtor's getting some love and turning my vehicle focused csm army into just demon center is gonna be awesome 🤩
I make a suggestion to include Warhammer Fantasy novels for book reading club in the future! My first candidate is Gotrek and Felix stories!
I still want my forgeworld specific rules back for AdMech,
I want my sneaky Stygies bois back.
Befriending Matara has done irreversible damage to Bricky and I’m absolutely here for it
Bricky is turning 29 this year?! I always thought Bricky was quite older than myself... we're the same age. That is when my hair grayed and my skin shriveled to resemble a chaos tainted raisen.
Doubt anyone at GW will read this comment section, but here's how you wring a steady steam money out of your fans for the next decade without selling people rulebooks and codexes that are almost immediately invalidated by patches resulting from your own screw-ups in the rule-writing department.
Bake all the (army) rules into the warhammer+ subscription. 10 bucks a month and you get the full app: all the rules, for all the armies, updated as and when it's necessary. This includes any new editions. No more dumbass giant rulebooks, datasheet cards and codexes with detachments and codexes that, without exception, turn out to be outdated after 1-3 months anyways. I can pretty much guarantee that if the price is fair, people will gladly sub for easy access to the rules and listbuilding tools alone. Any added shows/batreps/whatever that comes with it are just a nice bonus.
Make codexes a lore/art book. 80 pages or so of epic short stories, epic art, no rules... BUT! Here's the extra spice added on top: Sell it with a limited edition character mini. That new Sister of battle model coming out with that upcoming book? Absolutely awesome! Gorgeous model! We tend to love most of your lore and stories anyway, so I'll 100% be picking up that combo when it's announced (assuming I manage to nab one). If you make something with that kind of quality to sell along with those newfangled codexes, people will be buying them.
Genuine question to those who play 40k from someone who does not (I only indulge in the model building/ painting and lore); What is stopping you from just playing previous editions that you liked more (Especially when in a casual friend/ home setting)? Why not home-brew, combine, and streamline your favorite codexes/ rules together? Especially for armies like AdMech, which I have seen near unanimously regarded as the worst army in the game currently. So if you're in a casual/ friendly setting, why not use a previous codex's stats/ abilities for your army?
I'd like to hear people's take on this
Edit: lmao the Sisters mini cliffhanger at the end of thsi episode
Nothing, but often new editions are just easier or more fun to play
@@Iaminyourwalls-fi4dmCore gameplay & mechanically wise? Regardless of army stats/ balance?
I keep telling our group 'let's go back to 9th where we all got all the options unlocked instead of beta testing 10th.' but only two out of the five? I asked wanna play the older edition. Don't think they gave a specific reason as to why though...think that 10 is simpler?
It’s not always true sadly, but that’s the gist from most editions
The Core Rules are most often better. Also some armys got great and fluffy rules, so for them there is no reason to go back to their old and stale rules.
That hourglass image is dope as fuck. But it's kinda funny because the Lion is going around reconverting the Fallen
Hopefully, our codex will come out more than 3 months before 11th Edition.

It's looking like four detachments is the new standard and the various flavours of Space Marine is the exception.
Now i'm just imagine dk in the corner reading lore for fantasy at skaven speed to try to be ready.
I can totally see them alternating months with detective and fantasy. They know better than I tho. Just happy to have any content from these guys honestly.
So excited for some fantasy content. Would love to see some tomb kings lore or a few book clubs! Skarsnik is a great onramp for goblins and riders of the dead is a cool intro for empire kislev and chaos

Man I would love some more admech lore videos. Maybe more in depth on forge worlds
"I know GW doesn't watch our videos."
Are you forgetting when they made an Italian joke about Argel Tal and the Word Bearers when they introduced his new model?
Bricky sleeps on dread talons. You just need to add noise marines, who force your opponets to take a battleshock test after you shot them. So you force battleshock after you deepstriked near them for -1 ld or -2 if it's raptors.
You can actually combine it well, with enough planning it's a good army, but it requires a good pilot.
Can confirm that the alpha legion detachment is quite good, barely made it out of my deployment zone by the end of turn 3 because there was 30 cultists and 30 legionaries
I am fielding a cultist army, and started it since I realized I could with the indexes.
They are surprisingly effective in holding objectives and having some many models on the table, many opponents don't have enough firepower to take them off the table.
This game needs to have digital rules 100% because it will make it easier for people to see what models and army they want to play. Thus making joining the game less daunting to the finances one will have to invest to play a game with their friends.
Welcome to 29 bricky. Our knees hurt.
Hearing Bricky describe the scatter dice and templates from 6th and 7th edition makes me curious if he’s ever looked at the Heresy 2.0 rules, which are basically 7th but with changes like Reactions
The drop pod has rules to avoid deep strike mishaps, dammit XD
Ad-Rick squatting detectives lol!
Also for AoS stuff, TH-cam channel 2+tough has been covering it for years and I believe could make a good guest host for some factions

At least Night Lords having rules that are less effective in a fair fight is lore accurate
NOOOOOOOOOOOO DETECTIVE RIDICULOUS 😭😭😭
Glad I got my Halloween glow in the dark hoodie when it was available
Just a little ridiculously chaotic!
It's a codex per edition nowadays, but back in nineteen-dickety-two i had to limp through 7th edition as a CSM player with a 5th edition codex. We got a codex supplement eventually, but it was shortly before 8th edition was announced, so it was whatevwr at that point
im sorry to see detective ridiculous go, hope its able to make a comeback
DK, your suffering is my favorite part of this podcast. I just wanted you to know.

They’ll do anything to avoid Tau and Kroot.
I graduated in 03 thanks for reminding me of that depressing factoid
Unfortunate Detective Ridiculous is getting sent to Legends, will miss it dearly.
Bricky, the drop pod rules you mentioned was kind of wrong.
There was the inerial guidance system rule where it will never land on troops or into terrain, it lands just beside it.
I've been consoooooming you guys for a while now and my gyatt I love the detective ridiculous, hope you guys keep pumping out content like how DK pumps his... heh peanits...but genuinely hope you guys stay immortal as the people's own silly goofy goobers to laugh at and jorkin buddies. ❤️👅
Iron Fists do exist funnily enough. Even GW can't keep track of whether they're an Imperial Fists or Iron Hands successor Chapter. It's pretty funny.
Well, gotta have the sacred 8 of Chaos...but you might as well have fun with it.

I kept checking Bricky Ep. 2 to see if Bricky would cover the Codex, great surprise to see him going over it here with the AdRic crew instead :D
regarding fantasy vs detective, I am super hyped for realm of ridiculous, and i don't usually rewatch detectives, but i think changing it to once every few months would be better than scrapping it, it's still super fun
