Don’t ask me how I know this but there is something called Aethersense. It’s a plugin that links FF14 to your lovsense and you can make it do anything from anytime you take damage it’ll vibrate to hitting your positionals correctly will make it vibrate

Your Friend now knows the Signs of a Catfish if he has never encountered one before. Its a Lesson to learn from a Dude wannabe a Chick Vs an Actual Chick. Its a rare case of someone is actually a Mute so if they use the excuse "I cant voice cause I'm Mute." is a lie most of the time its a Dude trying to hide their cover as a chick. A Catfish pulled the same trick on a Friend of mine. Obviously the Duchess must be into Dudes and since Duchess wants to pretend to be a Gal might as well send that Catfish a Box of Tampons.

a female friend of mine that plays ff is actually irl mute since birth, she often hears story´s like that to the point she started playing only solo and not forming connections because people might think she is a catfish and she doesnt want to deal with that anymore..kinda sad having to play a mmo alone

I do not do coms or discord as a personal preference, I also play with my husband and irl friends. But! If you’re not trying to pick people up in game it shouldn’t matter and she could definitely try making friends.

I always used a text channel for my non mic friends. They could sit in and listen and just text out responses and me or one of the other peeps in the discord would read it out for the others. Adapting to others is the simplest form of consideration people can have. Also, not always assuming the worst.

Military Background is like a classic Catfish red flag. Not that people from the military don't play XIV but when this is coupled wirh other major red flags it's an obvious case of virtual stolen valor. I think what's sad however is that the Duchess isn't catfishing for monetary gain, but they're just farming attention and fake romance.
Actually there is a quite few of us playing, but we can peg someone for being a fraud in 3min flat. We just speak a different language and we police ourselves really good.
Been in the navy for 7 years and played 14 for 11 and yup we play....we just never talk about it in game 😂 (except when we have watch and have to miss a raid night)
I joined the Army back in 2012 and started playing in 2013. Theres a good bit of us playing because its easy to socialize when we have to travel around the world. While some are gullible, most of us military folk can smell bullshit from a mile away due to what we have dealt with lmao.
Playing FF14 while getting blowed up in a Humvee makes no sense like.. HOW tf do you play a Game while doing Military stuff? How are you not dead and I doubt the Military will allow you on a Device AND if in the Hospital with an Injury there is no gosh dang way you be on the Game cause you'd be laid up in Bed groaning in Pain.
@@XWinterMaliceX I mean most Military personnel are stationed at bases that have living quarters that are practically a small town with living quarters and tax-free mini grocery stores. Just because you're in the military doesn't mean you're out in hostile territory overseas all the time. I have a friend who actively raises a family on base while working on the base. Naturally, they have downtime when they aren't working.

"o/" when entering an instance, and, "tyfp o7" when leaving. Apart from that, yeah, not much goin' on. Do some weeklies, do some hunt trains, log in for savage and ultimate content with set statics, log out. Done. It's not a very social life, but it doesn't need to be either, hearing shit like ths.

lol i play a female cat girl... and the amount of time I see people hit on my char is while in gilgamesh.. maybe the way i type might come out feminine ( don't know ) but I had to tell people privately im a dude.. but there are some people who dismiss me saying that im a dude and then tell me that i am lying to avoid being found out that I am really a girl just pretending to be a dude. I just sigh and ignore going forward.

I use text to speech in Discord, because my mic is awful, but if I do it on my phone I can speak, and I have before with a group of friends. I am a naturally quiet person and have social anxiety, so I prefer to use text to speech.
Yeah a lot of dudes play female au ra, miqote and viera, but there’s also so many girls who play male au ra, viera and miqote 😂 I’m guilty of that I’m a girl with a male character, and I say that the disconnect between roleplay and inrl relationships in this game is so rare. As someone who genuinely knows what it is like to be mute, it is annoying knowing people do it to hide their gender and take advantage of others. Mine was due to a deformity, which I did eventually get fixed through surgery, but sound like crap when I do speak. Side effect is my voice is easily lost (acute laryngitis) because it still isn't, nor ever will be, perfect. Means I still avoid voice chat cause after work my voice is usually worn out from use.
Edit: For context, I spent most my life unable to speak due to a form of deformity that was nerve paralysis and growths on the folds. I've only had a voice for about 10 years, but it is very raspy and by end of day usually end up like someone who had severe soar throat. This is due to the correction on the folds leaving scaring that is similar to what happens when callous from for a singer.

Personally I don't do VC because I don't like it, as much as I'm not too much into phone calls, and I'm a girl irl ^^ so yeah there can be different reasons to refuse voice or video calls. But I'm also not in FFXIV to look for love so there's no reason why others should care about my gender. I guess that if you do want a IRL relatioship you'll have to show yourself at some point or it's sus :P
IRL gender doesn't matter unless the people can't separate themselves from the game. Protagonist has that red flag too

I feel bad for OP and I think that he got catfished, or else The Duchess would have at least answered the questions about their identity and not be like "I don't answer that". Also, I'm sad that I can't watch the live streams anymore, they are now in the morning for me, so I don't have time. But I'm happy to watch the videos.

Yeah, I started with female characters, when it comes to male characters. The only way I play a make if it's completely not human like, The Cast from Phantasy Star, or now Hrothgar in FF.
If there was ever even an atom of doubt this guy was catfish then it was dispelled at the moment the other guy relayed the headset microphone excuse.

As a Balmungite, I can confirm that this drama sounds like us....buuuuuut. I think I was an active orbital with the "Female" if they are who I think they are. I remember a BIIIG stink being made over someone being catfished, having interacted with themself, but things smelled weird, too many red flags. very pushy about the erp. Can elaborate if wanted but I might be wrong.

Male here, play fem Viera as well, best curves imo. I prefer eye candy over a rl rep of myself in game. Have never thought about erp in ffxiv, but if so, would def need to be a female in rl. Also girls do 100 send such things. I had a girl who would snap some super educational vids of herself and a cucumber from time to time. We only knew each other from an anonymous chat app. She was just one of many females on this app who would send me such things, completely free and never asked for. Just saying, women can be just as pervy as guys about these things.

Okay I don't play FF14 yet as I was planning to get it within a couple of Months and I happen to run into one of Panthra's Videos and ngl I like them cause its a real eye opener. After watching this Video I gotta say the Dude totally got Catfished because I've met two People in another Game that has admitted as well pulled the actions of a Catfish. I got an Ex that admitted he Catfished one of my Friends (which was male) and confessed he Catfishes Dudes no idea why he does but he does. Another was a Dude that pretended to be a girl and Dated two of my Friends when it came to Photosharing that Catfish sent my Friend two seperate Private area photos which you can straight up tell wasnt the same. When it came to Photosharing my Friend A got one Photo of a young 18ish 19ish girl and my Friend B got a different Photo from this Catfish which looked nothing like this chick. The Catfish was like an Aunt and her supposive Niece used her Account was the excuse, but turns out there was no Aunt that was "MUTE" or a Niece that shared the Account it was found out it was a DUDE. In the end both my Friends quit that Game and my Friend A became mentally messed up cause of it while Friend B moved on to being with his Ex Gf.

This is a story as old a mmos. I had a buddy catfished on ultima online in 99. I remember reading articles in the early 00s that showed about 95 percent of mmo players were male and I bet it’s still near 90.
If they won’t even talk to you, say bye. They may be ugly and not want to show themselves and ruin it but no voice chat is a huge red flag.
In the super slim chance they’re mute, going to have to produce some believable photos. We always used the to say “there are no girls on the internet. Until proven otherwise, you’re male to me.” Lol. That’s changed some but is still largely true.
very true, if seeking a relationship you should definitely abide by the "male until proven otherwise" rule, but I will say on 14 the ratio between male and female players is probably the closest it gets to 50/50 in any mmo
My buddy dated one and their excuse was their voice is deep because of some birth defect. Im still convinced it was a dude. Dudes be catfishin left and right on 14 that I dont trust nobody but my loot.
if i remember right, I played high and low in runescape when the dice first came out in rs. some scammed but most used the dice for gambling in poh's
I think many people in ff play opposite characters than they actually are, or maybe they play the gender they identify with more even if they were assigned a different one at birth.
I heard its pretty common for male Viera to be played by females (me included as an afab but i lean to considering myself non-binary and had gender confusion growing up etc)
So i often don’t think of the people to *definitely* be the gender they’re playing as, even if i see the character as them,

Man, this stuff is a tale as old as time. I'm a WoW veteran, played that nonsense for 10 years and my god do I have some stories of RP guilds or members lying about their sex for so long that it all falls apart at the end.
I find XIV players' obsession with gender so very strange. If y'all don't intend to meet up for a physical relationship, why the hell does it matter? But that Duchess person was definitely a gigantic red flag lmao, so many lies and contradicting stories.

I think for this specific story OP did say he was looking to find a girl and form an IRL relationship with and to one day eventually live in with them cause he was a hopeless romantic he said.
