Wow, Captain Perry! This is, in my opinion, the best episode since the beginning! Thank you so much for the inspiration. I hope one day there will be plans of the OCSS. Cheers from french Mediterranean coast!
The paint in the cabin is clean, and cleanable. You were really thinking ahead when you located the compass such that you can open an eye during a nap and verify that you are on course. Nice work.
Thanks 👍. Yes I knew I wanted one that's easy to check from the rack and while sitting inside, then there's another hand held one that I have which will likely have 2 mounts, 1 in the doghouse and 1 on deck.
Having also done this window treatment, I would link the inner and outer skins of the panel with a layer of glass for both strength and sealing of the foam. This will allow you to fair the aperture and get a better finish and seal for the acrylic.
Congratulations on 10,000 subscribers. Madison Wisconsin USA Modifying a Westerly Windrush triple-keel. Closing up and entry hatches. Yes looking like something from “Ponyo” the Miyazaki film. Ponyo’s father Fujimoto had his Submarine. Yes I’m putting a Ponyo decal on my boat. 😂
Really appreciate your build, looking forward to see the episodes. A suggestion, how about a portholewindow with a wue aft? I really appreciate the look out to the rear on boats.
Thank you, glad you are enjoying them. There's a small round porthole going in just below the doghouse facing aft. I may add more at a later date but I'll sail her first and see what I feel is needed.
Maybe locat the two handles further forward to have better leverage to go in and out, plus if you move to the front of the boat, it gives you a broader range of holding on. Otherwise, I absolutely love your build
Bravo, progress is showing on the build. And just to say your vids are filtering through onto my homepage here on TH-cam. I think it’s a good sign your channel has become popular and the algorithm is working for you. Actually the boat is starting to take shape and looks good. Looks stylish, some character emerging. Good workmanship throughout. Is there some area of boatbuilding you could subcontract in? Makes me wonder if there is some niche area of a build you could carve out for yourself but I don’t know much about it, just that your careful crafting of these things is resulting into a good skill level.
Thank you, I'm glad the algorithm seems to be kind to me. I've thought about it, but making money working on boats isn't really for me. I'd rather be able to enjoy it without tying it to income.
Did you consider using a router with depth set to cut just through the foam? If this was wood, that I how I would have approached this deadlight job. Looks like you did a great job with the oscillating saw. I probably would have started further back from the line - because I have ruined too many pieces trying to get it done on the first cut :)
Nice video! Glad you moved along with the build in the video. Not a fan of your rigging knife or the holder for it but you may learn there are much better rigging tools before you sail. We are all interested in how this tiny boat will sail and stand up to weather! Often it is the crew that fails before the ship…as you probably know….
It's too late now, but I think that I would made jigs and used a router to cut the window recesses. That way, they would have been 100% consistent for depth & shape each side and you would not have had to worry about a horrible slip with the multitool. Anyway, you did a fantastic job with your method and the green paint inside really breaks up all the white nicely. Are you using the same colour on the outside of the doghouse? One last little thing, I suspect that you might remove the ring from your knife lanyard when it rattles on the screw and gets on your nerves.
Thanks. I intended to use a router but ultimately decided it's quicker for me to use the oscillating cutter. The router is so powerful I find it's easy to make mistakes with it.
It's NICE seeing the progress you've accomplished on your OCSS once again! Ah, I see, “your methods” of how that constructed part of your boat actually got assembled together, for “you” now in reality... Considering you happened to mention a date in the beginning of this video when this work was done, or video footage captured. I’m now curious, currently June 24th is this cabin doghouse permanently affixed to the rest of the boat hull rooftop yet, or does it still remain as a separate component perhaps? Thinking even now it is still, for best for additional work-abilty purposes and further details to be added to it or further upcoming modifications to it?
It might not be relevant in your case, but one thing to keep in mind with carbon fiber is that it's pretty effective at blocking radio signals (I recall, but might be wrong. So all arials etc ned ot be place accordingly..
Haha ok ok you got me. I knew that but talking on camera it's easy to slip up. I probably meant to say "it's easy to check if I'm on course."For the deadlights, a router works too, I'm just a bit more confident with the oscillating cutter and it requires a lot less setup.
I was wondering about your rationale for the lack of a rear-facing portlight in the dog-house and the non-transparent hatch-cover. Without them, any view abaft or aloft from within the cabin requires opening the hatch... Yann Quenet's Baluchon has both a transparent rear-facing hatch and an aft-facing portlight just above the aft deck/cockpit. Other than that: congrats on 10'000!
In some clips you can see that I have a round hole in the main bulkhead. It will have a hatch with a clear cover that I can remove for ventilation. It allows me to look aft while seated inside. It's just a foot lower than the doghouse. I didn't add another deadlight facing aft in the doghouse because it's so much work to add one, and because there's already that lower one. In fine weather, realistically the main hatch will likely be open for more air most of the time and I'll often be popping my head out to look around.
good to see you back the interior is really coming together like the colors, I always enjoy your videos, also will the main hatch cover be clear like Lexan or Plexi? Also can I suggest a backup cover of some sort that you stow away out of the way my thinking that your hatch cover is a Big Opening and if ever it were to get ripped off you will have a backup cover
Hi Curtis. It's because each one is so much work to add, and there's already a hatch I can look aft through about a foot below the doghouse. I could always add one in a year or so if I feel it's really needed.
I planned to, but I'd have to build several different templates and it would be so time intensive. I decided to skip all that trouble and do it carefully by hand.
Nice progress! I wonder why some of the moving shots are really stuttery? Or am I the only one seeing this? Stutter sometimes happens when the footage isn't shot at the same framerate as the final movie - making the frames misaligned (50fps vs 60fps or 25fps vs 30fps). That doesn't make sense though, since some shots are stutter free and the very next shot is really stuttery but it seems to come from the same camera?
Yes it was so annoying to edit. I got a new phone and for some reason about half the clips seemed to be at 120fps while others were 30fps. I had a lot of trouble editing. I am going back to the old phone for the next episode.
I intended to use a router but I would have had to lose a couple days to making all these cutting templates, I just decided it was easier to grab a batten and knock it out quickly with the oscillating cutter. It came out great.
Meticulously precise craftsmanship throughout!

Congratulations on hitting the 10,000+ subscribers. Let's get Perry to 20k soon. Have a good week, Captain.
That would be something. I hoped for 3,000 at the start, so this is pretty wild to finally see 10,000.
Man, fantastic progress in this video. Super fun to see the dog house come together.
Thanks 👍
Looking good. Really like how the doghouse is coming along and how it makes the boat look
It is looking AWESOME! The engineering is impressive. And that janky jigsaw just keeps jigging. Keep it up!
I like the look of the doghouse. Congrats on your 10K!
Thank you!
10000 subs as I'm watching this now. Congratulations!!!

Such a long build, let’s hope all the effort makes for a super cool ocean cruiser!
Long journey, but I think the end is in sight. Can't wait to prove her at sea.

Great to see sections of the boat almost complete. Congrats on 10K👍
Yay for 10k! Awesome neat work on the porthole cut outs- great multitool technique!
Thanks so much!

Congratz Captain. You finally made the 10k subscribers. Cheers from Munich/ Germany to San Diego.
So fun to see your progress. It is really starting to take on the subtle design form that you envisioned at the beginning. Well done!
Thank you, very fun for me to see it come together too.
Great job ! Congratulations on 10K!
Thank you sir
Looks like you got your 10k!! Congrats!!

Polycarbonate sheet would be my choice for the windows, much tougher than acrylic which tends to crack and shatter on impact.

The router would have melt the foam, wouldn't it?
@@areyoumad I have no idea, haven’t tried it. Definitely worth checking around/testing before trying it on the hull or doghouse panels!
I made up a jig and used a router with a flush trim bit on my port lights. Messy but worked well…

We are all interested in how this tiny boat will sail and stand up to weather! Often it is the crew that fails before the ship…as you probably know….
Yes and it's sad how many boats I see are just abandoned at sea just because the crew give up, while the boat is floating perfectly fine.
It's too late now, but I think that I would made jigs and used a router to cut the window recesses. That way, they would have been 100% consistent for depth & shape each side and you would not have had to worry about a horrible slip with the multitool.

Yes it's true. I will leave many places for signals to escape.
Why wouldn’t a router work here to cut out the insets? Cool knife holder! BTW, the compass provides heading, not course.
Haha ok ok you got me. I knew that but talking on camera it's easy to slip up. I probably meant to say "it's easy to check if I'm on course."For the deadlights, a router works too, I'm just a bit more confident with the oscillating cutter and it requires a lot less setup.

I have and use one, but this was just faster. Making perfect templates for the router would have burned a few days. The result was great.
